I purchased the new RCA 10" tablet from Wal-Mart. I've been able to root the device with Kingo and I have dumped the system, recovery, && boot partition for anyone who's interested.

Why has no one done anything with this device? It was unstsable with app ctd's until I rooted it and it will not get better wiothout the communities efforts.

Process to root?
What is the process to root this tablet? I am familiar with rooting, is it just done through recovery mode? What order are the three files flashed. Thanks

is your device set to usb debugging? kingo can show you how to do that.
and you need that setting as well for pdanet to download drivers for your phone.
also, make sure your device is on charge only mode when connected to pc.

You can root with:
POOT: This app is a one click root app. No computer needed
Framaroot: Framaroot is a oneclick root app . No computer needed

Thank you very much for this. My brother needed to reinstall the firmware and this is the only place I've found it. However, I can't find anyway to use these to reinstall the firmware. Can I make an update.zip from these files?

I tried rooting from a win 7 virtual machine running inside solydk. It wouldn't work. I reloaded my laptop because I need to maintain a copy of windows to adjust the emc on one of my Harleys. So 100GB partition for windows and the remainder of the TB for linux. Ran all updates on the laptop and installed busybox on the the tablet. installed kingo and rooted the pro 10. Not alot you can do once rooted except clean up some bloat and over clock the cpu a bit. Nothing for custom roms out there. I'm trying to find away to flash linux on it and do away with droid.

Did anyone try to put a custom recovery on it? We need to back up the system, root apps can render system unbootable not even after a reset unless u have a backup
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

No custom recovery here. Mine got into a little random locking up. I had to use the reset button to shut it down. So I factory reset it and am head to walmart to exchange it for another guinea pig to play with. I hope the one they set aside has the USB dock and keyboard and not the bluetooth one.

Lol, but that's what i was afraid of, i already returned my 1st because of the crappy usb placement on the dock, it broke or I broke it I don't know

My mom just got this tablet and its sweet but a lil too vanilla. Has anyone managed to shag an sbf or fxz? We need to worry about flashing stock before we get into root and custom recoveries IMO. I haven't looked too deep into anything but does rca even allow for unlocking bootloaders? Or do we need to look into SS or bootstrap? I'll be willing to help with development but personally I think a recovery to stock is the most important first step..
On a side note, I'm used to locked bootloader devices so I'm unfamiliar with Odin and unlocking things I always use safestrap or bootstrap.
Glad to know that there's at least a root method for this tablet because it does after all have nice specs.

I actually like it better than the one I bought my wife with the bluetooth keyboard. I picked up the new one yesterday and it is rooted. I took all the crap off it I didn't want. Installed some of the stuff I wanted for now. Still working on getting linux installed on it. I have the feeling this will be a rooted what it is, and I will have to buy something different down the road to be able to actually do what I want with it. This will work for now for the basics.

It's not impossible.... it's just no one has worked on it yet. There is some promising results with the zergroot/DoomLord root kit. No one has officially posted they've broken their Pantech Breakout with it yet.

Stopped working after the update. Checkout the Pantech Forum on Android Forums for a different root method. There is also a rooted ROM available there too
Thats a shame as you can get them for fairly cheap on craigslist
If anyone is trying still...
I just used the all in one root from android forums and it seems to not work at first. Even with fastboot drivers installed it kept hanging in fastboot for me. You have to use "fastboot continue" then it boots again normal...
Even at that unless you know to run a check root app you may think its pointless but its rooted if the script completed and tells you success.
Device not found problem
I'm trying to root my Pantech Breakout, and I'm running into a problem where the rooting program can't find my device. For example, in SuperOneClick, it will kill the ADB server, try and start it again, and give the message "daemon not running, starting it now on port 5...". It says "daemon started successfully", but that's as far as it gets. I've tried reinstalling drivers and restarting, with no success.

To install Recovery with no hassle, download either the twrp or cwm version & flash with the Nexus Root Toolkit. Faster and less hassle with more working options than the suggested "one click root & Recovery tool for pantech breakout" that was apparently designed for the device. The pantech tool kit is dodgey, unreliable, moody and finicky in comparison. Nexus toolkit is no questions asked install

[Q] Rooting Hisense Sero 7 LT

Okay i recently picked up a Hisense Sero 7 LT and i know there is a rooting method for the Pro version of the sero 7 but i haven't seen any work done with the LT model so i'm going to be working on a method to root it but i need a little help from the people with a Pro model, so if you have a Sero 7 Pro and would like to help that would be great. What i need is for the rooted Pro users to do is to upload the init.rc file in the root of the device as on the LT model / is read-only and the init.rc file isn't set to read in its permissions, next i need you to run 'ls -lR /data' in a root terminal so i can see if any files are vulnerable to the symbolic link root method. Thank you and i hope we can root this device.

...but this seemed kind of interesting:
http www dot srsroot dot com (sorry, too new to post links )
They actually list the E270BSA in their "Tested models" page - but then they also say they have an average 48% success in rooting phones :/ From another forum I saw that their program tries 5 different root exploits.
The program is free - can anyone with a Sero 7 Lite give it a go and see what it says/does?
Hey guys - Klown80 hooked me up. SRSRoot didn't work - don't bother with it - but the new "end-to-end" Android vulnerability exploiter does (if your version of Android doesn't have both bugs patched already.)
On your device, get the app "SRS AppScanner", run it, and see if it says either of the two bugs are still "Vulnerable."
If either of them still is, go to http cydiaimpactor dot com and get the Impactor (which runs on your PC). Extract it (no install needed) and try the default exploit "# drop SuperSU su to /system/xbin/su". If it works, presto! You've got a working su binary and are rooted! Install e.g. SuperSU afterwards to give root access to other programs that need it. It's worked for me on two tablets so far (Sero 7 Pro and Sero 7 Lite) and I'm interested to try it on others!
(Oh, you'll need to have your device good to go for adb already too, for this to work. Seems like a pretty obvious thing to expect on XDA )

So I have rooted the sero 7 lt. This was achieved using cydia impactor - GOOGLE IT.
(see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340693 for instructions)
Its loading the custom recovery I can't figure out. Something to do with signature verification. The Cut and dry recovery included (hold volume down and power from power off till logo appears, then release power only. At android belly open screen hold power and press volume up to access menu.) Won't matter can't toggle signature verification. Nothing will install. SuperSU and BusyBox installed from within. There is half the battle... time to win the war.

And that is the stock recovery you are talking about, all android devices have it. It is not possible to turn off signature verification within the stock recovery, hence the need for a custom recovery. The only thing you can flash within the stock recovery are OFFICIALLY signed zips made by your device manufacturer.

Trying to root.. Nightmare

What an absolute cluster. I am trying to use motochopper, right now I am installing USB drivers.
When I select "browse for software on your computer" it only lets me pick folders, not allowing me to pick the actual file that I need. I can't find a way around this, even placing the file in the folder doesn't help. I attached a picture to help.
Thank you in advance for assisting me with this headache. I have unlocked the device already, need to root it and then have a customer recovery, and eventually get on kitkat because the stock rom on this TF300 is almost unusable.

If you can't find another solution, you can using Framaroot. It runs only on the tablet (no ADB needed) and works on some Android versions.
You can always try Kingo. It worked like a champ on my TF300T and my Note 3.

I think the best option is to use fastboot to install a custom recovery such as TWRP then root it from the recovery. If you are planning on flashing a custom ROM you will have to do this eventually anyway.
Are you up to date with the latest stock ASUS ROM? Which custom ROM are you going to use if that is your plan?
All questions that will determine the best way to move forward AND which custom recovery to install.
Best of luck.

For some reason it won't do any OTA updates. I haven't looked too much into roms, sounds like cromni-x or something is what I want. I don't want bleeding edge, I want reliability and smoothness. This is my first tablet I've done this process to, my S3 was easy and my other older phones were even easier. I will look into the methods posted, as well as posting my current tablet info shortly. Thank you very much guys!
Framaroot app says my device won't take the exploit. Kingo says device not connected with both usb debugging enabled and disabled, even though I can see it on my pc and am able to transfer files.
Running 4.1.1 with build number 10.4.2.20, will be on this project all day so by all means please give more advice!
EDIT: I am doing a fresh install of windows 7 in case some of these issues are related to it not being detected correctly. I have had issues with microsd cards and other usb devices before.
Just use kingo root

Once you've unlocked it, it will not do updates via the standard method. You will have to flash via fastboot. Before you flash CROMi-X you will need to flash the stock Asus JB 4.2.1. If I understand correctly, you are not able to connect to your PC in fastboot mode? Are you in the bootloader when you attempt to use fastboot? If that is the case then you probably don't have the correct drivers installed. It has been over a year since I installed everything on my PC so I am a little foggy on where to get all of the correct drivers and software. If I remember correctly I downloaded them from Asus. I believe I downloaded and installed ASUS Pad PC Suite which installed the correct drivers. Then you need fastboot which can be found on several threads including the one I first provided to you.
Just because you are connected as a media device and can transfer files back and forth does not mean you have the right drivers installed and can use fastboot. You are connecting at a totally different level.
What ever you do, be sure you are matching versions of bootloader/recovery/ROM. Don't flash a 4.2.x version recovery onto a 4.1.x version bootloader. This goes double for 4.4.x version ROM's. If you do , you will brick your tablet. Also, I suggest doing an NVflash backup once you have fastboot up and running BEFORE you flash anything custom. It is a long process with many steps but in the long run you will be thankful you did if you should make a mistake and brick your tablet.
If you have questions, ask but do a lot of research first. All of the info you need is on this forum but you need to spend the time reading and becoming familiar before going forward. We have all been where you are at one time and had to do the research. It is time well spent. Having bricked one smart phone because I got in a hurry I am speaking from experience.

yes the problem is windows drivers, many TF can't be even unlocked and the latest kingo downloads the drivers and installs them for him, also starting the asus sync app tricks the pc to see the tablet during the root, that is actually an asus problem

I agree it does appear to be a driver issue. But he stated the following, "Kingo says device not connected with both usb debugging enabled and disabled, even though I can see it on my pc and am able to transfer files." That tells me Kingo didn't install any drivers.
Not sure about the PC being tricked since after I installed the Asus PC sync app the drivers were installed and I was able to uninstall the sync app without losing the drivers. I did a complete nvflash backup, and have installed numerous custom ROM's, from ICS to JB to KK without ever touching Kingo. I've since upgraded to Windows 8 then 8.1 and still am able to do whatever I desire from flashboot and adb, all with the same drivers I originally installed from the Asus PC sync app.
Also, being unlocked and being rooted are two different things entirely. You must be unlocked before you can be rooted but you don't have to be rooted to be unlocked. You can also install a custom recovery or ROM that will take care of rooting once the proper drivers are installed without ever using Kingo, Motochopper or any such app.
Not saying Kingo wouldn't work, but it does seem he has tried that without success.
One clarification to the above post. You do NOT have to be unlocked to root.

Hmmmm...not sure about that since I unlocked before I even attempted to get root access. But you can't install custom recoveries, or ROM's without being unlocked. In fact you don't have access to fastboot mode without being unlocked.
I am not even sure what the point of rooting is if you don't want to install a custom recovery and ROM. Sure, you can uninstall system apps and free up some space but only to a point. And the performance is still going to be sluggish. Customization for my tablet has kept it fresh and like new, negating the need to buy a new tablet. Performance is on par with anything I would be interested in buying.

To answer your earlier question about only rooting...
30+ years in IT, dealing with family, customers and coworkers is more than enough.
Just being able to install ad blockers, apps like Titanium BU and completely debloating the device can be more than enough. This is key when you don't need the hassle of screwing up or bricking your daily driver device(s).

I suppose. But if all you do is root and install ad blockers and Titanium BU Root the odds of bricking your device are slim to none, though as sbdags has pointed out, removing the wrong system files with Titanium BU or any root uninstaller can soft brick the device.

You can softbrick it with TiBu by removing the wrong /system files so do be careful. You would either then have to flash back to stock to repair or unlock it to flash a custom rom. But yes you can achieve some enhancements just by rooting but you can't do much tweaking safely as you have no backup system.

Installed TWRP on StraightTalk SCH-S968C Samsung Galaxy S III - now no OS! - resolved

I have a rooted StraightTalk SCH-S968C Samsung Galaxy S III (with the stock AOSP ROM) that I just screwed up. I had used EZ-Recovery to flash TWRP 2.2.0 to the phone. Now TWRP says there is no OS! I can only boot into TWRP - nothing else. It won't even let me power-down the phone. Is there some way I can recover from this, or do I now have a very expensive electronic brick (that runs TWRP)? I have adb installed on my laptop and I know it works, so that's one possible route to recovery. Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm pretty sure it's possible to return it completely to stock with the COMBINATION_S968CUDUAMH1_S968CTFNAMH1_1304014_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5 file through Odin. I just to happen to have the file right here.. small warning though, it's 1.2 gigs.

That's the file I am offering to host on my Website, since nobody seems to be able to download it from Dropbox. I'm having trouble downloading it from Mega... Since the file is over 1 GB, Mega insisted I needed to download their extension, but it's not compatible with Firefox 22. I tried Chrome, and Mega says that Chrome on my laptop is "a bit outdated"... sheesh! I'll try and update it.
(added later) - I found a Dropbox link for the file and it's downloading now.
If you want to FTP the file to my Website, let me know by PM and I'll give you the username and password.
I tried using fastboot to install CWM Recovery, but fastboot is eternally "waiting for device" even though it's there (adb can see it).
Aug. 7 - Got the file I needed, but didn't use it since Windows7 would not recognize the phone even after I installed the drivers. (I think it was an issue with automatic updates being disabled...) In the meantime... I tried the button-combo for the bootloader (which I swore I tried the day before and it didn't work), and the phone booted into the bootloader! From there, I pressed "Volume down" to cancel & reboot the phone, and it went into the stock system - it was all still there! First thing I did was immediately use EZ-Recovery to flash CWM 5.8.4.5. - Issue resolved!
Deleted.

In that thread go down to method 2 of getting a custom recovery. I downloaded cwm touch from the link there and then installed it with android terminal emulator using the codes that it says to type in. I tried to look up that stock rom but I didnt find it. Its on the forum somewhere in a thread about how to root the straight talk s3 and how first you need to download and flash the h1 baseband stock rom
Thanks I found the stock rom fixing it now.

I have combined 2 s3's to make one good one. This is the proper thread for the model of the chipset. The phone has been worked on buy someone who only thought they were a genious. I've found traces and from surfing the forums I'm pretty sure I know what they did even. I'm gonna grab these stock images and flash back to stock. I just wanted to put a word in now to see how dead this thread is. BTW just for the record easy safe root is achievable with safroot for Att g s 4. I've confirmed that. Root is no issue. Root Galaxy Tab 2 - No USB Cord??

Is it possible to root the Tab 2 if I don't have a usb cable? All I have is a power cord that plugs into the wall.
Not sure, I would try towel root.

Yeah, I got that on my android TV too... I know the original version just tried it, really debating just finding towel root v1 and trying again...., if towelroot doesn't work, I don't think there is another apk that can do this....
I am wondering if he removed the ability on anything that is not a phone for legal reasons. I believe jcase has done similar recently.

No, you can't root the tablet (given you're still on Samsung Stock ROM and therefore stock recovery) without a PC.
You need to flash a custom recovery (Android Andi's TWRP or CWM Swipe) first ... once you got a custom recovery going you can then download the flashable ZIP file of Chainfire's SuperSU right there on the tablet and flash it through the recovery to root the ROM "from below".
Mobile ODIN to flash a custom recovery doesn't work either (just to point it out) as you're not rooted - hence why you need to use a PC at least once. Seems you either have to find a friend who has a 30-pin->USB cable for Samsung devices or buy one off of eBay or other online retailer to make it happen.

In which case you already started out completely wrong - "rooting" most Samsung devices (not so sure about the Tab 3 and newer or Galaxy S5 and newer) is "only" a matter of installing a custom recovery through ODIN and flashing SuperSU or Superuser from there ... or flashing Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root in case you want to stick to Stock ROM and not replace the stock recovery either ... of course that's all a matter of "is it available for my device", and in case of the Tab 2 all of that is available nowadays.

Your PC does not see the tabet (Tablet in Download-Mode, attached to PC, ODIN started) or you don't have a PC?
However, if you would actually bother reading my post you even quoted, here's the crucial thing: "Mobile ODIN to flash a custom recovery doesn't work either (just to point it out) as you're not rooted". NOT ROOTED = ROOT APPS WILL NOT WORK.
So, since you are also very vague on details...
IF your current ROM is ROOTED then you can use MobileODIN to flash the .tar.md5 of either Android Andi's CWM Swipe or TWRP.
IF your current ROM is NOT rooted you CAN NOT use MobileODIN as this app requires root to do its job.
In a conclusion: If you don't have a PC then maybe ask a friend who happens to have one. If you actually have a PC and Windows/ODIN does not detect the device make sure you actually installed the Samsung USB drivers on your PC, make sure you use a compatible version of ODIN (v3.07 should work fine), make sure your tablet is in Download Mode before you plug it into your Computer (ODIN already started).
If you're still having problems try a new post in where you actually describe your problems with more details than just "want to install CWM but didnt got pc".
