Hi to all!
I'm a new member here and I'm hoping that you guys could help me with my simple question. I'm very new with Android OS since I've been an iPhone user for the past 2 years. So here it is:
I just bought an UNLOCKED AT&T SGH-i727 from a store here in SAIPAN, MP and I'm planning to update my Gingerbread 2.3.5 to 2.3.6. Will it lose the UNLOCK if I do it? I believe the phone is NOT ROOTED and it was just unlock using an UNLOCK CODE. Also, when I tried to check for SOFTWARE UPDATE it says like my SGH-i727's firmware is up to date which is GINGERBREAD 2.3.5 but I believe there is 2.3.6 already as I saw on my friend's i727. Any idea?
PLEASE HELP. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
You won't lose unlock.
Yes there is an update. You have to be sure you have stock 3e recovery and all bloat intact and nothing frozen. You may not see the update right away. It might take a while.
Why you would want a stock update, I don't know.

Thanks for your response.
And that's the problem I don't have anything that you've said, idk where go get them. Could you help me with that?

Ok...do you know the difference between a custom recovery like cwm and the stock 3e recovery?
If you search the general section I have a stock tar hosted there. Sammobile stock tar should find it

Hey all,
I just finished installing the OTA update for my provider. I've seen lots of people advising to "flash stock recovery", but I wanted to go into depth a bit in case some one out there needed a hand like I could have used a few days ago.
(1) Grab the stock RUU for your phone and version from this thread by football. It's a 500mb download - you only really need ~8mb of this, but here you are. Thanks to everyone who is sharing their files! You can find your current version on Settings->About->Software Information->Software number. If you're on Fido (Canada), you want the Rogers version...since Rogers owns Fido.
(2) Follow the instructions from this guide on the Sensation Development board. I used claudenegm's (b) instructions with no difficulty.
(3) That guide suggests booting into the stock recovery and flashing the update. I tried to do this but with no luck, so I just booted into the system and had it update itself. After the update was done, I reflashed TWRP (the newest!) and root with Hasoon's toolkit and I'm good to go again.
Hope this helps someone.
Do you know where the jb ruu is for fido? Thanks

Thanks bro, it's there. I couldn't fix it way back when. I see the fix was in April 2013. Now back to learning how to fix a bricked one s. I did this to my girlfriend way back in January 2013, got a new phone, now that one is cracked , so she asked about this one. I knew that the Jellybean ruu would be available by now lol

Thanks for This Learn
I'm getting a Not Registered On Network error on my phone since I tried the official Jelly Bean update.
The IMEI seems to ave changed too and I've a serial number of 00000000
I had a look at other threads but this only happen after I did the flash - I've tried going back to stock but it seems to be there too
Theres an official jellybean update for this device? *headscratch*
I'm going to assume you flashed the update for the international variant on your d2vzw. Odin back to stock.

In the dev section there is a tutorial on how to backup and restore your IMEI. I still *knock on wood* haven't run into that issue yet.

Did you properly backup your IMEI as described in several threads in the development section? If so, restoring your IMEI is simple.

No, there are several unofficial Jellybean roms for our phone. They are based on the T-Mobile leak from a while back. We're a ways away from an official jellybean OTA. The OP wouldn't be able to boot their phone and discover their IMEI changed/phone number reset had they flashed an international rom.

OP, could you post where you got this official update from? Link? Cuz there are definitely no official Jellybean anything for our phones as of yet.

Sadly you flashed an international rom. Sorry. I thought this would be a hard brick. But since you can boot you can odin back to stock.

Its not a hard brick since he is able to boot up, but beyond that IDK. OP, when you said you tried stock and still no go, did you mean that you used Odin to flash a stock image? If not, that is your best bet.
As long as you can odin back to stock and you have a Verizon device, there is a tool in the dev sections stickies that can restore your IMEI even without a backup.
Now that u r back to stock do a search for IMEI restore on xda to restore your phone.
For future reference note that there are several GS3 variants and u can only flash the one specific to your carrier if u want to have a functional device. The international version doesn't even have the same processor.

THanks for all the pointers - I'm a bit confused though and possibly I haven't given enough info...
The S3 was originally running on AP i9300xxalef CP i9300xxlef CSC 19300OJVALEC and it was rooted - I'm in Ireland so it appears to be an international phone.
I can't get a product code because when I try it gives me NOt Registered On Network
Previously when ever I tried to update it via Keis I never could and it always showed the serial as 000000000 I also think the IMEI as different.
I did try to flash it previously and it failed I but it kept working - So I wonder could the IMEI switch have come from that - as I do seem to remember the 000000000 from before I tried Jelly Bean.
If I put it back on the same AP CP and CSC would it work again - and how would I go about it?
Thnaks
Brought it back to the original firmware - and getting a no signal icon now!
I don't know of any tool for the international model's Exynos that is like the tool for the Qualcomm processor.
Everything I've seen, says in order to restore it on the Exynos processor, you need to have backed up your EFS folder. There are a couple threads in the International GS2 forum (not the GS3 forum) detailing how to repair it, but that entails you having have backed up your EFS folder.
Not sure if there is a way to fix the problem if you are able to get the IMEI number from your box or behind the battery.
Edit: I just did some googling and found there is some kind of Samsung tool for repairing it. There are a couple youtube videos that I found as well. Some tec site is claiming that once you restore to stock, you get a new EFS folder on your phone and although the information will be incorrect inside of it, you may be able to edit it. You would have better luck in the international forums though if you have an international phone.

After a long battle (don't ask) I got CM running. Along with the other stupid mistakes I made I didn't make a nandroid of the stock ROM. If I need to revert to stock, where do I find it? Googling got lots of hits but they all pointed to international versions (p5110 - I have the p5113)

My point exactly! LOL I have a GT-P5113 and I know it was identified that way even though it now says it's a 5110 in the "about" section. If I install a 5110 ROM even if it's stock it won't be back to the way it was.

Well I didn't think it was since the regions are all international but if it says GT-P5113 it is ok? I don't need warranty now but I want to be sure I can revert if I need to. Thanks!
Edit: I've tried multiple times to download this (hotfile). It gets about halfway and fails. Is there another source and which region do I select for us?

Both sites have links to Cellular South which is USA. What are you looking at? Where did you get your tab? Hotfile links are as good as they get. Are you using phone or pc to download? Downloaded well over 100 ROMs from hotfile and never had an issue yet.

Thanks I didn't know cellular south was for all USA. My tab's from Amazon. As for hotfile I'm trying to download directly to the tablet. It gets halfway and fails every time. Trying again...

Well don't let that Tab fall asleep either. Not sure what the region code is with the one from Amazon. It could be Cellular South, from Singapore, or that XAC region which is listed as N/A. Maybe by N/A Samsung is calling it unbranded. Do you remember anything dealing with branding on yours? Any info on the box?

I think I still have the box. I'll look for it tomorrow. In the meantime I did get a completed download from hotfile but it must have been corrupted. It failed the install. I'll see if I can get it on the pc tomorrow.
I installed zapblaster to try it out (made a full nandroid of my cm installation!) Wish I knew enough to help with development lol. Certain features I love in this one and others in cm10.1 that I'd combine if I was a developer.

here i started this thread not too far back http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342136... i think its exactly what you are looking for in regards to the p5113 and stock firmware
also in regards to the zap blaster rom, i think its terrible... nothing beats the UI in 4.2.2 .... if the IR capabilities is what you are after go here and try this rom http://d-h.st/OTW its cyanogenmod 10.1 .... its not official but does have a working IR blaster. just a few minor bugs you can fix on your own.
anyways hope this helps
Did you install that hotfile with odin? First you uncompress the zip to find a md5 file inside. You install that md5 file with odin.

Yes wI tried. There is something wrong with it. I'll try another download(s) today. Maybe I'll make myself just let the whole thing until/unless I actually need warranty service. It's just frustrating!

Yes you need to install this firmware with odin. Companies do that to get money by making specific roms for specific carriers, the carriers get promoted and earn more money. Well i dont know much about strapbootloader but i have used multirom manager on my moto g to boot multiple roms and yes if strap bootloader allows to install custom roms than you can install Stock rom as primary and cm11 as secondary.
