I'm going to recommend some threads that you should read. Some are old, but still have very good information. The first link will show you the basic, and help you go from stock Froyo to custom GB. Then you can use what you learn there and the install information from the ROM you want to install, and go to JB or ICS.
The other links will come in handy in case of a problem, but I recommend to read them because it's good info to learn. Hope this help you.

After waiting for a while for it to continue the flashing process I finally close Odin and removed my battery to restart my phone. Unfortunately now I can't restart my phone. When I press the power button nothing happens. Now I also trying to flash using heimdall one click but following error occurred.

First things first, do you have an
SGH-T959V
or
SGH-T959W
?
You can check this by lifting the battery and checking the sticker on the phone.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you just trying to get it into recovery? If so, do you have the Android software developer kit (SDK) installed? The SDK includes the adb binary. Download it, install it, then open a command prompt, cd to the 'platform-tools' directory where the SDK installed, insure your phone is on & plugged in via USB, and issues the command: adb reboot recovery.
If I'm off-base with what you're trying to accomplish, my apologies.

Don't use a KFx rom, the KF1 and KF2 versions of Gingerbread were really buggy and will give you more trouble than they're worth. You're better off flashing Octane, Valhalla or ICBINB which get updated frequently.

Which also means that you need to flash a KG4 leak or newer for the proper GB bootloaders. If not, you'll get a rainbow screen.
Similar Problem
Hey Guys,
I had a similar problem. I am using Fire Expert to overwrite the new recovery to the \system\bin folder. However, I realized my mistake was that I did not mount as r/w. After I did that though and I held the volume up, down and power, I stay stuck at the initial splash screen and can't go into the stock recovery screen. I can't boot regularly either; I have to Odin recover. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Overwriting the old recovery and putting the update.zip file on the sdcard for CWM Final was for Froyo ROMs only, not Gingerbread (GB) ones. What ROM are you currently on?
In order to get into recovery since flashing the GB boot loaders I have to:
Power off the phone
Hold down Volume Up, Volume Down, and the Power button
When the Galaxy S screen comes on, wait a second, it'll get a tad bit brighter. When that happens let go of only the Power button
Wait a few seconds and you should be in recovery
Sounds like you might be a bit goofed at this point, though. If you were on GB before I'd suggest using one of the ROMs in bhundven's The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection. The last one in the list will also give you root, CWM, and voodoo lagfix.

Weird. All you should have to do is put the updated recovery in /system/bin & put the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
What is the current state of the phone? I know in the previous post you said you would have to use ODIN to recover. Did you do that?
Yes I did use Odin to recover. I did it following the link provided in the sgs4g 10 commandments. This is the second time I recovered. After I recovered he first time, I tried the process again and the same thing happened: stuck at the initial splash screen.

I've not used it but if it allows you to mount /system read/write, then it should work fine as long as you're putting the 'recovery' file in /system/bin & the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
If you try it again then reboot into recovery, what happens?

Hi there,
I own a Rogers Samsung Infuse. I rooted and flashed CM9 onto my phone yesterday. Long story short, had an issue with Google Apps, and ended up with a phone that would constantly boot to the CWM Recovery screen.
I was able to use ODIN3 to get my phone back to stock, but could not flash CM9 (or anything) with CWM as I was (and still am) getting the:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I tried using this: Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e), but the phone kept getting stuck at the Samsung screen.
I tried watching the modified e3 recovery video on youtube, but my recovery file is sitting in the root folder, and not in system/bin where it should be. I ignored the location of the file, replaced it with the modified e3 recovery file, but when I rebooted my phone, it's as if the changes didn't take place.
I've been digging (maybe not hard enough) for a solution to this problem. CM9 looked fantastic for the 5 minutes I had it on my phone.
What can I do now?
It sounds to me like you lost cwm recovery if you want to flash cm9 you need to flash the ics recovery file. Doesn't verify signature verification

My first attempt to get into CWM recovery after getting my phone back to stock and re-rooting put me into red recovery mode for reason. Not necesarilly. The stock 3e recovery also has blue letters, but you should be able to tell them apart. It actually says 3e at the top and only has about 3 options to select.

I've read the articles...I'm still learning.
Before I experiment with installing any custom ROM's or
upgrading to GB, I wanted to make sure I had my existing
ROM backed up.
Apparently, I am unable to boot into CWM recovery.
If this helps, the recovery installed on the SD card is:
clockworkmod/download/download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.0-galaxys4g.zip
I copied this file to my computer & unzipped it. It unzipped into 28 files, none of which was an
image file.
As I said before, maybe I'm way out of my league.
Thanks for the reply.
All you need to do is flash a rooted kernel with cwm already in it. Read the second post in lumin's guide. I think you are confused about how recovery works on this phone. It's in the kernel.
OK...as I understand it, I have to download a program called Odin and a
kernel and flash the kernel using Odin.
I do know how to get the phone into download mode.
I'm still a little nervous about doing this (although I was able to
root the phone without any problems).
Thanks again...
You have got to be adventurous when it comes to flashing. Luckily this phone is very hard to brick. Even if you get a boot loop with no cwm you can still one-click to stock and try again.

You gotta walk before you can run. One-Click yourself back to GB Stock and worry about it from there. That way, if you get screwed up, folks have a baseline to assist you from, and can "unwind" whatever it is you have managed to do to yourself.
So I'm having this issue with recovery. I recently got this Infuse and it was running cm9 but used the ODIN UCLB3 return to stock method cause cm9 was giving me issues and I always preferred running stock. Anyways, stock is painfully slow and laggy, so I wanna run jb 4.2.2. Now, here's my issue: I decided to try this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776129 and followed the instructions but whenever I reboot to recovery, instead of the recovery menu appearing, what does show up is a mess of colored lines that look as if the lcd screen was cracked and nothing really happens no matter what button I press... I then wanted to try another recovery, so I used the ODIN method to install Entropy512's Daily Driver kernel with Red CWM Recovery and doing so made the recovery menu show up correctly!! I then followed the steps in the rom thread and it said to flash cm9 and gapps, reboot and when it got stuck in the splash to use power + vol up+down method to get back to recovery. well, whenever i do this, it does go back to recovery but, once again, instead of the recovery menu showing up, it shows all the messed up colored lines... i then have to use the odin return to stock once more and go back to stock :/ Im not at all experienced with samsung devices as all my previous ones were htc's, so any guidence and help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advanced!

I recommend reading, reading, then reading that thread many more times. I have read it and followed the links in it many times. About every time I do I notice or pay attention to something else helpful.

definitely, and especially since this is all so new to me coming from htc... and, to add even more reasons to the convenience of reading all about the infuse, i think this is gonna be my daily device for quite some time... so i better read up on all i can!!
Also remember that the file format changes to MDT and any screw ups will probably require a return to stock using Heimdall or Odin. Read the OP instructions very carefully.
This is a guide guide to use too.

I tried to run CWM in System Recovery but everytime I try to install a ZIP file I get:
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I read over several posts on this subject but cannot figure it out.
I have:
Samsung Infuse
Gingerbread - installed after I had bricked my phone - UCLB3_Unbrick_root_1.1.zip
My Android Recovery Menu is blue - <3e>
When in my phone, I can run Terminal and get a Linux prompt - so I assume that means its rooted.
Wanting to get CWM.zip installed so I can go on to installing ICS and then on to JB.
Any ideas on how to get passed this roadblock?
Thanks
Carl

is there a way to build up an UPDATE.zip from system alone ?? so i can fix mine !
i tried something like signing the system.zip and played a bit with meta-inf ... but i always get to the error : signature verification failed ... and i can't install CWF because i don't have the USB driver for this phone in recovery mode...
