rooting a device - General Questions and Answers

I have a question which seem familiar over the internet but I am confused because of too man answers for :
I have a new brand (not famous brand ) phone , and I was thinking of rooting the device in order to have more ram but my only problem is that the warranty I know that it may be void after root but :
if i unroot the device will it still void or not ? and i hear that engineers in the companies they can know if the phone was rooted is it right ?
(Note : it is only unrooting without custom rom or flashing and my phone warranty is from the device comapany it self)

your warranty is void after rooting, but in my personal experience, no one even checks. it could just be customer support in my area, but when i try replacing a brick i dont tell them that i rooted, i just tell them my problem and they usually replace it.
p.s. i only did this once, my friends are the other experience!
p.p.s. and i dont think rooting can give you more ram, but i may be wrong.

You can set the CPU up higher and overclock it which will speed up the phone

if you are only seeking to get more ram i would advise not to root your phone because the only about of ram you are going to get is around 30mb's which pretty much means you can only run +1 more app which is not worth it. as for Warrenty voids. if you root your device and send it in for repairs, its voided, if you unroot it and send it in it should not be voided, some new phones have have a counter that can tell the OEM if the device is modified or not, this is only for most newer samsung phones. they can only tell if it was rooted that way if its an older device running Gingerbread and you unroot it ( delete your root apps) i dont think they can detect that it was rooted.

Your Warranty is voided as soon as you root your device (only if they find out in the Service repairs) pretty much if you break your phone and needs service repairs delete root apps and unroot.

@hopsin4444 please Read the OP before you post nonsense, Overclocking has nothing to do with what he wants and the only way for him to overclock is with a Custom kernel. :/

[Q] Warranty question

Hi everyone i just got my xoom a few days ago and everything is running great. Currently thinking of rooting the device for OC and other stuff. But i have a few questions first, for those who are familiar with it please help.
1) I'm from Australia and bought the US wifi version from amazon, does anyone know if im covered for warranty?
2) Is it possible to reverse the root and lock the bootloader on the wifi only xoom yet? Remember reading that it wasnt possible yet before.
3) If i do unroot and lock the bootloader will Motorola still cover a hardware fault under their warranty (if i am covered)?
Thanks all.

1 Unless product has expressed international warranty and service support available in your country you need to send it back to USA.
Please confirm with seller about warranty(duration, etc)
2 moto dev website has official images and instructions(as these directly from motorola so no issues no hacking,etc.).
Just to confirm if i unlock then relock the bootloader i can still claim warranty even though i agreed that i voided the warranty when i unlocked it??

Rooting any phone can come with a risk, but it is a risk worth taking, also you could void your warranty when you root your phone. I used cf-root and for me it's the best root method.

It would not spoil you phone if you follow the instruction carefully.
Probably you will only get an annoying "Yellow Triangle" warning sign after rooting.

Can I root my phone?

Hey guys, I have a Sony Xperia S running on 4.0.4 ICS.
My phone was bought at Meteor Ireland and AFAIK - it's branded firmware (the update only came out today for the Xperia S)
Rooting status:
Bootloader unlock allowed: No
Bump
it depends on ur needs..!!!
well ur sony is a new phone..u got the latest official updates.. u may b surely enjoying all the new features and stuff sony provides to u.. apart from all that do u need anythn extra frm ur phone??
rooting is done to get superuser permission only for advanced users so as to enable any functionality or features, tweaking , extra UI...etc the phone may not provide..
i dont think u need to root ur phone.. bcos there is no need..u had everything in ur phne.. also experimental features for xperia S are yet to come.. if u go rooting ur phone u will loose sony warranty .
Anyway if u hav much experience in using android phones before..
rooting ur phone allow u to get full control on system functions..
u can remove unwanted system apps, u cud crack payed apps, can manage memory tweaks, manually set permissions for apps u want to stop background running... likewise there is many uses in rooting only if u r an advanced user in android platform..
otherwise i say u better not to root.. acording to me there is no need actualy to root ur phone.. i personaly used a sony xperia S.. realy brillaint and great phone indeed.. its awesome.. plz dont tamper ur phone..!!!! And congrats to b a proud owner of sony
I want to get root first of all for CPU management and a couple of other things.
what u mean other thing?
isnt ics already support developer option.
you can OC you phone there.
I don't want to overclock, I want to downclock to increase the battery life. Besides I want some songs for Tap Tap Revenge, but that requires root too
bumpy bump
quick and stupid question that im 99.99% sure i know the answer but need to ask anyway.
My brother has a samsung galaxy s2 on AT&T, they released an update to make it ICS, There is a custom rom that is the Official Update but modded alittle and prerooted. if he goes to turn in the phone later on if i update the phone with the AT&T update will it let me since its already ICS? and doing the Official update will unroot and get rid of custom recovery.... i'm certain i know the answer just want verification.
Thanks

Your Warranty is Not Void – XDA TV

yes, that may be a federal law, but the wireless companies have the right to protect the networks, rooting in itself is not a security issue, its changing prl, roms, etc that cause a security issue. Google by itself does want android to be opened source and universal. the only way google will do that is if they start their own wireless network.
This is straight from AT&T terms of use that you sign when buying a phone and using their towers
att.com/AcceptableUsePolicy.
You are not permitted to use the Software in any manner not authorized by this License. You may not (and you agree not to enable others to) copy, decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, reproduce, attempt to derive the source code of, decrypt, modify, defeat protective mechanisms, combine with other software, or create derivative works of the Software or any portion thereof.
so when you sign the contract you are signing that you will not mess with the phones os or files within the phone, giving them the right to deny your warranty. and if they really wanted to, file charges on the basis of a contract breach.
Sooooo..... using AT&T's update will get rid of custom recovery's and unroot?
yes
I googled your question and people have posted about rooting the phone and of course it voids the warranty.

I wanna see some one show their phone provider that "law" and see how hard they laugh. It says right there messing with the phones files is against the set of rules and I guess people missed that when the read the warranty, and plus this is American what's written and what actually happens are rarely the same.

Help About ROM Pure S4

Hi brother. I would like to flash my phone to install S4 Pure Style.
I have a Galaxy SIII.
Model : GT-I9300
Official JB 4.1.2
Baseband : I9300XXEMA5
Kernel version : 3.0.31-1160235
Version number : JZ054K.I9300XXEMD3
SuperSu v1.34
CWM Manager v3.60
I wonder if there is no risk that I brick my phone
There is always a risk when flashing anything to your phone. Also beware that by unlocking + rooting your phone, you most probably have already voided your warranty, so if it does indeed get bricked, Samsung cannot help you.
That said, if you read everything before you flash, and are careful and use the search tool, you most likely will be successful in flashing whatever you want to your phone. All it takes is a little patience and knowledge.

Rooting and flashing your device does not void the warranty in EU
This is a joint blog post written together with Carlo Piana with the goal to disband some popular FUD that you lose your warranty if you flash or root your device. Does rooting your device (e.g. an Android phone) and replacing its operating system with something else void your …
