[Completed] Help - XDA Assist

Hi,
Recently i bought a xolo q700s.
After inserting the reliance sim card, it worked good for about an hour, and after that it pops up a message every now and then about the available balance in the sim. Initially I thought it might be happening because of the power management app which switches off data services and hence it pops up the message about the remaining balance.
But currently I am not using any data package, and i disabled the power management app which came pre installed with xolo.
But still the problem is not solved, and it is really irritating to get the notification at night time and while playing any games.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

There might be another app that provides balance notification. It gets triggerred when you turn Data on or off. That's the one providing such notifications.

But currently I am online using WIFI for internet access , and the data connection is always off, and still I am getting these notification on regular basis, precisely 7 to 8 notifications every hour.
I removed the sim and inserted in the second slot as this phone is a dual sim phone , and still it's the same, and a bit worse, the phone doesn't recognise any contacts from the sim when i inserted it in the second sim slot.
Also if i root this phone, will i be able to solve this problem?

I believe Rooting will help you remove one of the System apps that might be causing this. You can ask the carrier if they could tell you which app provides these notifications. You can disable that app without rooting. Such apps are typically called Carrier Bloat. The app seems to be giving notifications every time you toggle Data.
Having said that, this discussion is going beyond the parameters of XDA Assist. The Mission statement is posted as a sticki, in the Root of this forum. I see that you have posted your query in this thread. That is the correct place for the discussions on this topic.

[Q] Software updates, error everytime

Hi guys,
Hope you don't mind me jumping straight in and asking a question.
We have a Xoom here, It was sold to us as a Xoom WiFi 32Gb and came with a US style charger (we live in UK).
Now this Xoom has a sim card slot in the same place as the MicroSD slot, The sim card slot has the metal contacts needed to use the sim card also.
Does this mean it's not the WiFi version? As the software does not have any mention on how to use the software or any network options relating to mobile internet etc.
Also it keeps popping up with the same update constantly, when we click install it restarts and the Android character appears with a moving cog... then suddenly has a exclamation mark within a triangle (error). The only way to use the device again is to hold the power button and volume up to reset.
Then once rebooted we are prompted to install the same update again.
The person we bought it from says it was "never rooted" although I'm not familiar with "rooting".
Any ideas what is going on?
Cheers,
It is most likely wifi only. Every Xoom has the sim slot, but they don't all have the actual antenna.
I can't help you with your update problem, but I've seen the solution pop up in threads around the place. Or someone could hop in and help.
Either way, you need more info. Go to Settings > About. Give the info that is there, and we can perhaps point you to a solution.

[Q] Some questions.

I have some doubts.
1. How to know to which sim card the sms is arrived ??
2. battery full notification ?
3. is their any issue if i put the charger ON even the phone charged completely ?
5. I heard some sounds when closing the camera app from the camera. Is that normal ? Or a hardware issue ?
6. I can't get the dial pad when i open phone app and clicking it, it shows white box.. I need to go to the history and come back to phone app main screen in order to use the dial pad. What should i do ?
7. I have some issue in SIM card detection. Sometimes the sim1 not recognizing. It shows some red mark. after i interchange the sims, it works. but sometimes it comes. I searched Motorola support and got this link https://forums.motorola.com/posts/027c60e48f?commentId=776149#776149
It tells that phone needs to be replaced if none of the solutions work. I was thinking that it is related to Kitkat issue, and after update they will resolve. But it gives me some tension

Wifi and Mobile Network are getting activated automatically everytime, on my Moto G

Hi There,
I am facing a very major issue with my Motorola Moto G recently (May not be Device Specific though): The WiFi & Mobile Network of my phone are getting turned on automatically. Every time I deactivate both, but get activated again & again even after repetitive deactivation. Even though the mobile data status is showing “Off”, it still gets activated in the background. This not only is draining away my battery but also causing a loss in my mobile currency balance, because the mobile data is consuming bandwidth. I believe this is a Virus or Malware Attack.
I installed CM Mobile Security antivirus as well as Avast Mobile Security which I believe are 2 of the most popular antivirus programs in Google Play store. CM Mobile Security detected a virus or threat called "Towelroot". When it removed or quarantined it, the issue got fixed at that point of time. But when I booted my phone to recovery, for some reason (Even though I selected "Normal Power-up"), I started facing this issue again. This time I scanned my phone again with both the Antivirus programs, but neither of the 2 have fixed the issue. So the virus called "Towelroot" may or may not be the culprit. I was wondering if the virus that was previously quarantined by CM Mobile Security has somehow got access to my Phone again, but when I checked the quarantine, I found that it was still present in the quarantine. I searched a lot in internet, as to how to fix this issue. But I didn't get any solution. Currently I have put my phone on "Flight Mode" to avoid getting my mobile balance cut unnecessarily.
I am totally helpless now. Please please help me addressing this issue, as it's a very major issue.
Any help from anyone will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Have you tried to reset the phone ?
Wipe system/data/cache, that should help. If that does not help, then you're facing another issue.
NOTE: If you're going to wipe it, you're gonna all things on your phone(sms, contacts, apps, images on phone internal memory etc). Your SD card will not be touched.

Ya I have already tried that. I also did a complete factory reset, like as I already mentioned. Initially after doing the factory reset it worked, but after some time the same issue started showing up.. ..
And may i know what "Another Issue" are you talking about? Is it a virus or a trojan ?? If so just to let you know I have scanned my device with almost all the top AV programs, but none has detected any vulnerabilities or threats.
Please reply.
Check here.
By the looks of it, it is a trojan that happens by rooting ? (May be bs, since it can be from anything and just give it permission)
EDIT: Try to re-install the rom(just follow instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2854688 ). Since the problem lies in your linux(android) code this should work

I believe towelroot is actually program used here on xda. Check forums. Sounds like your experiancing carriers ability to flex their powers over your phone. If you have root and have root Explorer or file Explorer take a look into your files on device that are normally hidden from you. When you do restore only temporarily erases situation. They will be right back in your phone creating blocks to further prevent you from getting root. Most carriers are fixed with Google now and have little implant bugs in about 80 % of your apps. When you do something they don't like which could possibly give you opportunity to hack and Redbone or block them they quickly attempt to closer all of your avenues. I've been balding then forever. Seems like I am at a stalemate with them but they have about 6 gigs worth of junk (security) on my phone that prevents me from even song some of the basic stuff. I delete it and it's back in about 1 second. Heres link. . Towel root by respectable developer.

Hi, i am facing a similar issue with moto g. During the day it's connected on wifi so there is no issue but during night I turn off wifi and mobile data. When I check my phone in the morning, mobile data is on and data/bandwidth has been consumed from my account. This has been happening since past few days now. Have tried resetting the phone, but that also doesn't help.
Hi, did you find any fix.... same issue here. please help me. Thank you...

Your system could be compromised but probably more likely a rogue app or pup (potentially unwanted program). You can use an antivrus with the PUP set to ON or try an app like permission dog ref

SIM card with malware?

I bought a brand new Note 20 with ATT (locked) and was trying to set up all my accounts on the phone. Here is some background and issue:
My old device was S7 with a valid SIM and still active.
On the new device, I installed all of the apps manually. One of the apps is also Youtube Vanced (which is also on my old phone)
I felt I installed everything and then went to activate the SIM after a while. Once I inserted the brand new SIM card into the device, it gave me a warning that the SIM is not provisioned (as I haven't activated it yet). Then I started noticing random apps getting installed. These are the apps that I have never installed over the years.
I felt maybe the Vanced app was compromised, as it was the only one out of the app store. I kept uninstalling apps but new ones kept appearing.
I was in a bit of a panic mode and did a factory reset. Then repeated the steps. This time I did not install the Vanced. Everything was clean, except the apps starting appearing almost a minute after I put the SIM card. Then I performed a reset again thinking this is not the Vanced app issue (is this the right assumption?)
Then after the reset, I did not install any new apps at all, did not even provide my Gmail or Samsung accounts. I waited a few minutes to see if apps were installing. Nothing happened. I went ahead and inserted the SIM again and well, the apps started again. At this point I have reached a conclusion that this was due to the SIM card.
I did another reset and now haven't inserted the SIM (been few hours now and no apps installed).
Question 1- Is it possible that there is a problem with the SIM? If not, what could be the problem.
Question 2 - Does the factory-reset resolve the issues with any malware/virus or do we need additional procedures to make sure the device is "clean"

Hi!
Not malware , adware .
A carrier branded version will come with some preinstalled apps and even some games like candy crush or bubble something (verizon is specially terrible with this kind of sutff) so those weird apps that got installed after you put in the sim card is just ATT loading it their bloat.
Also if you downloaded vanced from the trusted sources , github or the xda links , theres nothing to worry about. Cheers

Question S22 Ultra: SIM card required to start setup (T-Mobile version from Samsung.com)

Hi. I received my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G smartphone, which I ordered from Samsung.com (I chose the T-Mobile version when ordering). After turning on the phone for the first time, at the Welcome screen, when I click the Start button, I get the message, "Insert SIM card from your service provider for network service."
I can't find a way to bypass this message. I was initially thinking if I could connect to my WiFi, it'd go away, but there's absolutely no way to connect to WiFi or access any settings.
I upgrade my smartphones every 15 months and have had T-Mobile for nearly a decade, and this is the first time I've seen such a thing during setup. I like to keep my SIM card in my current smartphone until the new one is fully set up, at which point I would transfer the SIM card over. I have a lot of services I use that rely on SIM card (i.e., not fully cloud-based and are tied to the SIM card), and not having that service during setup may be an issue. Also, I have received brand new phones that have had issues in the past (e.g., poor battery life, screen problems), so I'd rather fully test the new phone before transferring my SIM over.
The workaround I thought of: Put in a temporary T-Mobile SIM card, just to complete the setup process. Once setup has completed, I'll put my actual SIM card into the phone, or have T-Mobile transfer my phone number to the new SIM card. Thoughts?
Thank you.
It's because you got the T-Mobile phone so it wants you to connect to the network first before using it or continuing with setup. A way to get around that is to install the u1 firmware.
IIRC you can hold the volume down button for 5 seconds at the sim required screen to bypass the requirement. There's a help article somewhere that documents this.
As far as I know, Samsung requiring a SIM card during initial setup has been around for a long time. Nothing to do with your carrier. Even my unlocked phone from Samsung required a SIM card on first boot before continuing. There are of course ways around that, but beware. I bypassed the SIM card requirement setting up my S21 Ultra and spent a day configuring it to my liking. Then I popped the SIM card in from my old phone and it caused a factory reset erasing all my hard work. Probably because my carrier wanted to install all their software and settings. Not saying the same thing will happen to you, but just something to be aware of.
Here is the link to the eSIM setup (bypass SIM requirement)

Sticking a SIM from another carrier after eSIM set up should not cause a hard reset under normal circumstances, it does cause a reboot into bootloader to deploy the new carrier specific customizations from cache, but this is supposed to be transparent to user data. It broke if it caused a hard reset ;\

Technically, this worked, but this burned me badly. I appreciate the workaround, but I highly recommend against it. See below.

This is exactly what happened to me on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. This is literally the most annoyed I have ever been at an electronic consumer device.
I spent over 21 hours over the span of 6 days setting up the phone. I put in the SIM card and was presented with a message stating, "SIM card detected. Restart your phone to start using your new SIM card." I could not use the phone at all, so my only option was to restart. After I hit the Restart button, the phone restarted. For less than 3 seconds, it showed a black screen with a small Android logo, with the small text "Erasing." Then the phone started up and everything is as if it's a brand new phone. Everything I've spent time working on is all gone.
Hello Team, important information, when it is asking for the carrier sim card, you need press volumen up + volumen down + power button at the same time for few seconds, then it will say a message like "Unlocked" then proceed with the first configuration.
This is for people who is going to use with a different provided, please let me know if you heard or read this info in another link (because i did not find that)
