A couple of times now, when I'm out and about I lose my cellular data connection. It just stops working. In the past on other devices when this has happened a reboot will usually fix it. But on my Atrix 2, when I reboot the phone comes one with Airplane Mode enabled (please note that I did not turn on Airplane mode). If I try to turn Airplane Mode off, it will just sit and say "Enabling wireless connections" but never actually turn them on. I have to actually do a battery pull to fix this problem. The first time it happened I went and got a new SIM card (as mine was pretty old), and it just happened to me again this afternoon. I'm past my 30 day return policy (bought the phone at Best Buy) so I can't return it.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?
Just to reiterate, I did not turn on Airplane Mode, the phone powers on with it enabled and then won't actually turn off Airplane Mode when I tell it to.
i have the same problem too. After it happens couple times, i find out it might be the problem from the at&t address book issue which cause the phone cant read the sim for some reason (as it result, airplane mode keep enable). I also believe it is because the phone has been unlocked so the at&t address book crash. Is your phone unlocked?
Well, i am not quite sure it work on ur phone, but here is how i do it usually.
Way 1- plugin another sim card(sometimes i dun even need to do it), load the at&t address book, it will force the phone to load sim card cause of the contact from sim (then it should work right after that or after reboot)
Way 2- pull the battery for 1 day, it will work after that(but this is kinda dumb)
Hope this can help you XD.

My phone is not unlocked. I could see the AT&T Address book thing contributing, I've NEVER had that thing work right, and thus I don't even have it set up on my phone (it's on there in my Accounts, but it's not configured that I know of because i do my contact syncing through Google).
Battery pull definitely solves the problem, at least temporarily. The only other SIM I have is the old one they took out when they replaced the SIM after this happened the first time. I also don't store any contacts on my sim (again use google for that), so I don't know if doing a SIM swap would solve the problem in a more permanent way since I've basically already done that.
I tried battery pull, but it doesn't work sometimes. The reason i run at&t address book because it would force the phone to detect the sim again(cause of the contact). Lucky it doesn't always happen. hoping Motorola can fix this issue on next update.
**I just think about it, it might be some stupid mistake from motorola that overwrite the memory about the phone status section.
have you guys tried factory resetting it?
I tried to reset but it doesn't help at all
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
how about freezing or removing the apps from att?

Hmm, I did this just yesterday, I'll give it a week or so and see if the issue happens again after setting my contact storage to my Google account.

ok just inform us what happens.
I have and identical problem.
My phone would turn with the Airplane mode ON and I can't deactivate it, or even if it shows I can, it's not in the menu and I won't get any signal.
I can't recall If it happened because of a change but I doubt so.
I tried factory reset / cache / dalvik, also flashing numerous rom from neutrino to cm7 to cm9 and even MIUI (which worked the first time I flashed it for a day and then same error).
And It will also occasionnaly reboot If I try too hard checking for networks and such.
Any help ?
Hi,
I have a Motorola atrix 2. All of sudden it stopped detecting mobile(sim) network. It was working fine , in the morning when I woke up , when i tried to call it was showing flight moded is on and when i tried to to disable flight mode I could not do it , I did a factory reset , it didnt not resolve the issue. I thought it was sim problem , i changed the sim , that also didnt work. I tried recovery it also did not work. Sometimes it detects network but i could not make any call. Most of the times it doesnt detect network(it shows red plus sign). When i try to search for networks , it lists networks after 3-4 minutes(Vodafone , airtel , idea etc) ,But i fails to register with the network.
COuld you please suggest a solution. Is it hardware or software issue?
Thanks,
Hairsh

There is a file called "radio.img" it's the software part concerned with cell network so probably if the problem came from software it (would) be that file, so please answer this Q first:
have you played and flashed some ROMs and Kernels?? is your phone rooted?
No I have not flashed or played with ROM or Kernel. What I did was my phone was attached to my laptop as USB storage and I removed directly(not safe removal , did not do safe detach). My phone is not rooted , Initially I had Gingerbread(when bought) after that I got official ICS update.

Great...now you need to fxz (it means flash the original Motorola firmware and restore it's initial state)
so here is what you need:
1) The same firmware (that's why I was asking you about system version)...download from here
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/download.php?device=17&file=351
copy it to desktop
2) Motorola Driver
http://www16.zippyshare.com/v/65297309/file.html
install it.
3) RSD Lite (it's the application used to flash)
http://www16.zippyshare.com/v/85618478/file.html
install it.
>>Now charge your battery to 100% that's very important.
>>backup your important info. from contacts to messages..etc.
>>Turn off your phone.
>>Enter Fast-boot mode by pressing (volume up+ volume down + power button) at the same time..the phone will turn on with a menu...press volume down to move the selector to (AB Fast boot) then press volume up to enter that mode.
>>you now should see "Battery OK"
>> Connect your phone to PC with the usb cable and wait to see connection has changed to "USB Connected" in phone
>>open RSD Lite and follow that video instructions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHaEHjSzvQQ
Caution: Don't ever try to cut the flashing operation or your phone will be completely dead...so it's recommended to disable your antivirus while flashing and other services..just leave your PC alone till RSD Lite finishes the flashing.
It's not hard to fxz but please be careful with every step...... HAPPY FLASHING
My internet is slow , its taking time in downloading the firmware image. I will update you once I complete the process , thank you very much for the kind help.
Flashing was successful but for my bad luck the problem still exists. I think its an hardware issue. Do you have any idea? is it repairable? if repairable what would be the cost? Thank you very much for your support.
Good news ,it started working , i rebooted some 4-5 times after flashing firmware ,it started working now.
Thanks for your support. Thank you very much.
Sorry to say that my phone has gone mad. Now it shows network , but I could not able to make call ,if I call anybody it just gets cut and I am not able to receive any calls. Earlier it worked for some time i received 2 calls and I made 2-3 calls. Now calls are not going and not coming also.

I see that flashing original firmware doesn't help....sorry to say but it's now definitely a hardware problem
I guess that when plugging out the USB cable "specially if you unplug it slowly" some current leakage has reversed back and burned a tiny connections on the board.
actually I don't know the repair cost in service center...it depends on how much damage happened on board.
Note: maybe the battery is part of the problem...if your battery isn't genuine it may lead to that crazy behavior specially when making call or receiving calls as battery is required to raise up it's current to wake up some chips and provide more power to the antenna....if the battery was bad or damaged it can't raise it's power suddenly so system will goes crazy and may restart or freeze...etc
Make sure that your battery is genuine and not too old or that generic Chinese bad batteries as they aren't stable and may cause a current spike "extremely bad for electronics" when moving from charging mode to discharging mode and that's exactly what I think it happened to you.
Thanks. I will try to take it a repair centre , Lets see whether they can fix it. Bad part is Motorola no more provides service for Atrix 2 in India. I have to find someone who has expertise in fixing Atrix 2 problems.

Hi Harish,
Before you go to the service center, try changing your SIM card.
I once had problem with my new MotoZine restarting everytime I clicked a pic. I took it to the service center, they reinstalled OS. That did not work. Then we changed the sim card, and miraculously it worked.
I know its weird, but its worth a try.
Hi,
Recently i bought a xolo q700s.
After inserting the reliance sim card, it worked good for about an hour, and after that it pops up a message every now and then about the available balance in the sim. Initially I thought it might be happening because of the power management app which switches off data services and hence it pops up the message about the remaining balance.
But currently I am not using any data package, and i disabled the power management app which came pre installed with xolo.
But still the problem is not solved, and it is really irritating to get the notification at night time and while playing any games.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
There might be another app that provides balance notification. It gets triggerred when you turn Data on or off. That's the one providing such notifications.
But currently I am online using WIFI for internet access , and the data connection is always off, and still I am getting these notification on regular basis, precisely 7 to 8 notifications every hour.
I removed the sim and inserted in the second slot as this phone is a dual sim phone , and still it's the same, and a bit worse, the phone doesn't recognise any contacts from the sim when i inserted it in the second sim slot.
Also if i root this phone, will i be able to solve this problem?
I believe Rooting will help you remove one of the System apps that might be causing this. You can ask the carrier if they could tell you which app provides these notifications. You can disable that app without rooting. Such apps are typically called Carrier Bloat. The app seems to be giving notifications every time you toggle Data.
Having said that, this discussion is going beyond the parameters of XDA Assist. The Mission statement is posted as a sticki, in the Root of this forum. I see that you have posted your query in this thread. That is the correct place for the discussions on this topic.
So I received my Mi4i 32GB today, which I brought from the flash sale held on Aug 4th on the Xiaomi website.
I switched the phone on without the SIM card. I had to convert my SIM cards to nano, and then I inserted them in the phone. To my surprise, the phone couldn't read either of the SIMs. I thought there must be something wrong with the SIM, so I checked it in my friend's Mi4i and it worked fine in that.
While struggling to find a solution to this, I found several more problems.
1. The system update downloaded, but was not able to install even once, I always checked the version, and it was the stock version, rather than the new 6.6 version. Tried it several times, failed.
2. I could click pictures fine, but Icouldn't record a video from the stock camera app.
3. Youtube couldn't play videos. I tried this before and after updating the app too. It always said Unable to load, video.
4. Downloaded Snapchat, again a problem in video. I could see normal snaps from people, but not the videos.
5. I made a MI account online, but I could never sign in from the phone. It said, Cant get device ID.
6. Sound recorder didn't work.
7. I tried using *#06#, which is used to find the IMEI number, and it showed Invaid IMEI for both the SIMs.
8. I then tried to get in the boot by pressing the navigation key and power button, that showed a screen called FastBoot, but never went ahead.
So many problems I found in less than 8 hours! I didn't expect this from Xiaomi.
I think only my phone could be faulty as I couldnt find similar complaints on the web.
I'll be greatful if somebody could help with this asap.
I'm hoping atleast the service center would not piss me off by keeping me waiting to get a proper functioning phone.
Return the phone

People,
I hesitate to ask the question again, but I promise you that I've read everything on the subject that I can find (including many of the 171 pages of the "Nexus 5 Flashable Modems and EFS Backup" thread...) and also on a lot of other sites.
My son's N5 on 5.1.1 ran out of battery a month ago (it worked perfectly for the 15 months that I had used it) and when he recharged it he'd lost mobile data. He had the mobile service triangle in the notification bar, but empty. No service.
I have tried absolutely every suggestion that I've read. Airplane mode on/off. Flashed 3 older radios. Installed older Lollipop & Kitkat 4.4.4 from Google Nexus factory image site. Installed the latest nightly of Cyanogenmod. Installed MPZ79M. Rooted it. Nothing works.
I don't believe it's a hardware problem - when I remove and replace the SIM the notification goes from the square with a diagonal bar across it ("no SIM") to the empty triangle. But as soon as I reboot (not just screen off & waken, but full restart) the triangle is replaced with the "No SIM" square again. The same reaction happens on the initialisation after a factory reset - at the "Register SIM" screen it says "No SIM", but extracting and replacing the SIM starts the "Attempting to connect to service" sceen, though this just does nothing until my patience runs out and I skip it. The SIM itself has 3 scratches along it, so all in all I don't think it's a contact problem, but something in the software. The SIM works fine in the Nexus 4 that I've given him.
EFS - I don't know enough about it still, but the phone displays the correct IMEI, so I'm hoping that this means that the EFS is not corrupted?
I know that this is a well-known problem, but on the off-chance that somebody has read a solution that I haven't found...
Thanks for your patience and any help you can offer.
Oh well...
...I guess I have a £350 paperweight?
I suppose at least I can use it as an entertainment console, since wifi seems to be ok. But a terrible shame to waste such a beautiful device.
Maybe you already tried it... Just to be sure:
a) You have incorrect APN configuration, to solve this try resetting your APNs via Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names and then click in three dots above and select "Reset to default".
b) Your mobile phone antenna unit is not working properly, solving this is pretty easy, shutdown your phone, remove your phone's back panel very carefully (using a plastic material..i did it using guitar pick) and then you'll see two wires adjacent to edges of your phone, just remove and refix them gently and reboot your device.
c) Reboot in safe mode and try to play with the preferred network type.
d) I had this problem "No service and no signal network in nexus 5" after restarting phone.
I tried to restart phone few times again and reinsert sim card. No luck.
Then I took sim card out while phone was on ( I forgot to turn it off) and reinsert it and now it's working fine.
It must be a contact problem. Just not shure how long will it work.

Thanks, Primokorn, I'll give your suggestions a go - appreciate the ideas.
I have tried the APN settings, but since there's no SIM (huh!) it's greyed out, though it's temporarily updateable if I extract/replace the SIM while the phone's on - but it's grey again on the next reboot.

Primokorn,
No luck. I tried all of these with no result at all. It looks as if this is a very serious flaw in the Nexus 5 - I had my doubts, to be honest, when my son said it started after the phone ran out of battery, but I see exactly the same explanation from other people in the huge number of threads reporting this no-radio problem. How can Google issue such a good phone with such a lousy bug in it...? No point in even asking them (though I've seen at least one person who tried with an impressivly helpful response from the Google support person) since not only is the phone out of warranty but it has been rooted.
Oh well, I enjoyed it while I had it...
