New LG volt for VM and BOOST - Android General

I got this phone a few days ago, I have to say the most inexpensive smart phone for the specs out there. After about 12 hours of low use I still have 90% battery. The 1.2ghz quad core proccessor isnt as power hungry as these new 2.5ghz snapdrag 801 processors. And when you are on a budget $180 isn't too bad. However, Hard core usage may only allow this phone to last 12-15 hours but that would still get most anyone through the day! This is by far the best battery life I have EVER gotten from a phone, what is the best battery life you have gotten without extended battery?

I got about 15 to 18 hours on heavy usage. It's pretty freaking sweet!

Interesting.
Thinking about it I can't say I disagree, especially at current price points. With the disclaimer that it's primarily a hobbyist device, I don't think it's well suited for anyone who needs their phone to just work.
Yeah, this phone isn't exactly stable. Had an incident today, had to NANDROID restore.
Still. Has good days. Some bad....

I'm using Weapon ROM with Faux's 1.1 kernel - moderate use (20 mins of google music streaming, couple of air controller games, texts and one phone call) and I was just at 70% after 7.5 hours.
After using this phone for 4 months now, I can clearly say this phone is pretty decent. I've got the screen bleed and all, but all my lcd screens in my house have it to a certain degree. That's not a problem for me. This is my first LG product and I won't knock it too hard. I've owned cellphones for awhile now (first cellphone was in the mid 90's) and speaking strictly from the phone aspect of this device, it is better than most. The earpiece is a little low on the sound (you have to angle it just right to get it loud) but the speaker phone is loud and clear. The mic on here is good, I've never had complaints about my voice being unclear other than from people that are talking from HTC phones. Which brings me to my next point. The phone part of this phone kills HTC and the Iphone (Iphone is close to CB quality!). I think motorola and nokia are the only ones that sound better now.
P.S. My favorite phone of all time was the Motorola Timeport!

I'm getting pretty good battery life out of my G2X. I played ZDefense today for nearly 4 hours with music over stereo Bluetooth with wifi on and it ate about 45% of my battery. Normally I get about 20 hours of normal use (3 hours of s btooth, data off, wifi, surfing and Kindle). I charge every day but usually don't have to all the time.
It seems like turning data off really saves the battery as does living in a strong network area.

If you have crappy battery life, install betterbatterystats from this forum and monitor your wakelocks.

Zdefense is great, Hex defense is also, different enough to want to have both. When you say 4 hours gone on Zdefense, I understand.
I am one of those people with a lot of time near chargers, so battery is never an issue. I'm trying to keep this g2x stock. Only issue I've been having is some freezing when I'm on wifi and it's trying to use 2g, or when it really needs a power reset. I reset every day or two to keep it running smoothly enough.
Stock G2x. Zeam launcher.

512Mb RAM, 1GHz vs 1.2GHz, 1Gb RAM on SGSII maybe? I'm not sure I wondered the same thing. Could also be it's age vs newer devices.

The 1GHz vs 1.2GHz should not be any factor, it is faster than the 1.2GHz dual core Snapdragon in the Sensation, for example. The GPU in the G2x is also second only to that of the SGSII. The only thing I can think of is the fact that it has only 512MB of RAM.
I thought the range was based on cost after reading the article.

Cheer up Eeyore, there's no way of knowing that the phone has or has not reached the end of its support cycle. At least we have some great devs working on the device.
Speaking of endo of manufacture support, with the HTC Ruby (which is essentially a Sensation reboot) coming to T-Mobile in October I wonder what will happen with support for the Sensation (another reason I didn't take up T-Mobile's offer to exchange my G2X for the Sensation).

[Q] Trading phone...

should i trade my motorola atrix for a htc sensation? i dont need fanboy stuff i just dont know anymore from the benchmarks etc, 1gig ram 768 mb ram , battery life , blah blah . well i get 4 hours of screen on time on my atrix at most its irritating ~_~ and im always on 3g/4g idk what is what doesnt even diffirentiate. does the htc sensation have 4g/3g/2g toggle? , how much SCREEN ON time does it get? is it worth trading lol... what type of processor is in the sensation ive read its arm8 or something and it doesnt handle as much data per clock cycle as arm 9 like the tegra in the tegra 2 so tegra 2 is better blah blah well i think i need to rearrange this post but let me know though guys lol should i join the sensation camp? or stay at the atrix area XD
Well the Atrix definitely has a better battery life as compared to Sensation as the battery has a bigger capacity. Unless you buy a new battery for Sensation which is going to make it AWESOME. It does have a 3g/2g toggle and i think the performance of Sensation is great after you root it and install a ROM.
battery life O_O
my atrix doesnt have great battery life i pandora alot xD im using stock stuff but i will see how the battery life is after cm7. its nowhere near as decent as my iphone was (which i sold to get an atrix) i see that i have to watch the battery like a hawk , compared to the iphone that would have outlasted my atrix Dx. does the 1 gig : 768 mb ram make any diffrence?. does asynchronous cores really help ? im lost lol. the sensation looks good tho REALLY good. just wondering if i should migrate to the sensation camp xD
I suppose the battery life will be much better using CM7. Atrix has a 1930mAh battery while Sensation only has 1520mAh battery. I'm only getting around ~2hours+ battery life with stock battery. D: I believe both asynchronous and Tegra 2 cores have roughly the same performance though Tegra 2 might have a slight advantage since its build on the new Cortex A9. Well imo , an overclocked HTC Sensation is the beast! Its so smooth despite not having 1GB of RAM.

wow so its another desire hd situation O_O that sux lol so i guess i wont be trading unless there are any GOOD battery replacements xD that would let the battery last at lesat 4 hours on screen time... im estimating 2 hours 30 mins screen on time with the sensation?
Its about there i suppose. Some are having pretty good battery life with stock battery which lasts throughout the day with moderate use. Some aren't and requires a charge at mid day. Well its been going around that Anker 1900mAh is a great replacement for Sensation. You could check out the post at the Accessories section to see the reviews of the battery.
Yeah, with anker battery and insertcoin Rom I typically get close to five hours screen time per charge cycle.

Ok, so i did a lot of research on HTC Sensation battery, and turns out its not an environment friendly battery. Infact if you've noticed, our phones heat up a lot and SUCK the hell outta the battery. HTC has to do something about Sense taking up so much RAM and memory.
Thanks

RAM and memory are the same in the context you used. And what does RAM usage have to do with the performance of the stock battery? NOTHING. RAM being used does not drain the battery faster. In fact, I want my RAM to be used, not just sitting there doing nothing. As long as whatever is using the RAM releases it when I need it for something else (sense does) I'm happy.

Ya, I'm not too sure what the extensive research has revealed...the OP doesn't substantiate why stock battery has issues. Or what it has to do with RAM usage. Sure the battery has small mAh...but it doesn't require a lot of research to see that (as it is written on the battery).
I've made this statement before but then about head
Take your laptop off the charger and just leave it there most normal battery's of a laptop shouldn't last longer then 3-4h
The hardware of this phone is similar to a old Packard bell dot-s (the 2007 model)
1.5 ghz dual core with a 4.2 inch qhd screen is consuming a lot of battery usage. Nothing wrong with sense. Its allready build for the best performance and battery usage
If you want better battery life buy an anker 1900 or the 3800 something battery

Its not only the Sensation that has this 'issue'.
Its common knowledge that any smartphone has poor battery life.
Not really gonna last much longer than a day.
At the end of the day, we are probably near the top limit of what Li-Ion batteries can do; Need a new type of technology to supersede it.
(PS, the most I got out of one charge cycle on my Sensation was 1 day, 11 hours and a few minutes - not too shabby I'd say)
The main problem is that all the latest phones has to be so f...... superslim.
Who cares if the phone is one or two mm thicker if we get an ekstra day of battery life?
I don't wear tights and my pockets can take it

PLEASE stop making this comparison. Just because the frequency off the processor is similar does not mean they will act at all similarly in regards to energy consumption. proof: That laptop is getting 3-4h off of a battery many times the capacity of our batteries and many times the volume of the entire sensation. The laptop was designed for 100-150 watts of power, while the average phone is designed for less than 5. Sense is ABSOLUTELY NOT built for the best performance, as many custom roms have proven, and there is absolutely no way that modern, high tech tiny phone-scale dual core processors would be similar to 2007-era computing hardware in any way except for the number of cores and frequency. Also: Frequency does not mean everything. it only measures how many times the processor cycles. The important number is instructions per cycle or instructions per second.

[Q] Help increasing battery life to 12+ hrs (heavy useage)

Cycled 3 times now and the first day with moderate use I went about 8-9 hours. It was awesome. Now that I'm using it a little heavier and will actually be using it quite heavily with data, gps, browsing, phone calls etc. I am noticing maybe that really isn't enough... I need like 12 hours or more like I hear some people are getting...
So I ask you XDA, what is THE BEST way for me to achieve super long battery life with heavy use. I'm already using SetCPU (settings below)
2100 maH battery? (Will this even be a huge difference from our current battery? I don't know what our stock battery maH is..)
3800 maH battery? (If this ends up being the best solution...I need a good case to support it and these usually don't have those...)
A way to turn off LTE?
...any other way to get 12+ hours out of my phone with heavy usage? I'm never in the car long enough or at a desk long enough some days to be able to plug my phone in and charge...
Also, I've searched and searched and can't find anything other than "The LTE is still on even if you use X ROM, or turn X settings off, or install X kernel/radio." Is there any new update on how to turn off LTE on the Skyrocket when rooted?

*Note: If the 2100maH battery takes the stock back plate and it can give me what I'm asking for I would PREFER it. I have an Otterbox case I dropped $50 + SH on and I'd like to keep using it....

Can't help with the battery, but I run 1080 max 192 min, battery is more or less same as 1500 max for me. I get 4hrs screen on time, maybe 3.5 if there's above average voice use. This is with data on the whole time. I've found my battery is just about completely dependent on screen time, minus some expected drain over the course of hours but that's very minimal.

The battery and mfg is the only one I found that was a 2500maH. It was the largest I found that kept everything I wanted (stock battery, cover, etc). There might be another CO that makes one, but this is what I've found. Two weeks and running. It charges the first 65% like a banshee, then slows down for the remainder.
It's worked well for me, extending my day and making life easier. It really doesn't take any longer to fully charge than the stock one did, just longer life throughout the day.
Hope this helps.
You thought about getting external mobile charger or just spare batteries? you charge everything when you got the time and then just swap around when needed.
have i got a solution for you my friend...

Just to give you a quick snapshot, I'm at 22+ hours uptime @ 28% under moderate use. I'm not oc/uv either, and i am on official aokp Rom.
I plan to have it finalized by Sunday as long as my normal life duties don't interfere...

I am the exact same way with my skyrocket, heavy use for work and need at least 12hrs+ battery. So after much research, Looking at extra batteries to carry around or the tweak/root/rom method, which is way more convenient then carrying around batteries all the time.
I rooted my device, put SKYICS on it, and tweaked the CPU and UV, and now I'm using my phone heavy and at hour 12 i'm at 39%, so happy now with this phone now. It does me. Give it a try, believe me you wont be disappointed.

Buying the Nexus 5

Hi all I've come to a decision that buying the Nexus 5 is worth it, a perfect collection to my devices
The Snapdragon 800 Quad 2.3 got my attention and its pretty cheap
I would like to ask about the battery life and if there are any custom roms that improve it
Thanks alot
Hi,
For the battery life it will vary from each users, it depends on your usage and settings (screen brightness, synchro, GPS, etc...), for more details you can take a look here for example: Nexus 5 Battery Results. Some users have 7 hrs screen on time, others 3 hrs (plus the idle time to take in consideration) for example, like I said it depends of your use. If you are a gamer the battery life will not be the same as the user who use its phone only for SMS.
Again you will have different opinions (and people that claims that x rom or x kernel is the best for battery life, you'll have the same number of opinions as there are different roms / kernels and it will not help you more...), for some the battery life is great and for others it's terrible, etc..., I would say the average is a day for about 4 Hrs screen on time with "normal" (or "light" use, I mean not 1 hour of Dead Trigger) use. It will depend of what you will do with your phone?
The battery life is mainly on the user side, it's not x rom or y rom that will give you better or worse battery life (unless a big issue in the rom, but... or sometimes it's the Gapps that drain more than usual it's right). If you have a bad signal or a rogue app that give you a ton of wackelocks so higher battery drain, whatever the rom or the kernel you will use it will be always the same thing.
If you want improve your battery life, know what apps you have, how and what they do in background for example (to avoid wackeloks), you can underclock, etc...
Take a look here also about battery life and kernel: Nexus 5 Battery benchmarks.
And there is already a bunch of threads (and review) about battery life in the Q&A forum...

Hi,
For the battery life it will vary from each users, it depends on your usage and settings (screen brightness, synchro, GPS, etc...), for more details you can take a look here for example: Nexus 5 Battery Results. Some users have 7 hrs screen on time, others 3 hrs (plus the idle time to take in consideration) for example, like I said it depends of your use. If you are a gamer the battery life will not be the same as the user who use its phone only for SMS.

Hi all I've come to a decision that buying the Nexus 5 is worth it, a perfect collection to my devices
The Snapdragon 800 Quad 2.3 got my attention and its pretty cheap
I would like to ask about the battery life and if there are any custom roms that improve it
Thanks alot

To add to what they said though, certain Kernels with certain Roms can HELP with battery life but it all boils down to how the user uses it. I can tell you that with my same usage on KitKat and Cyanogenmod 11 (CM11), I get better battery life out of CM11. I recorded about a 4 hour longer battery life on CM11 as opposed to default KitKat that comes on the device.
You should look into CM11, it's a cleaner, more effecient, more customizable version of KitKat.
Hope this helps!
Great job to Viking on explaining battery life/Roms
@viking37, I Saw on some reviews on the internet that it comes pre-throttled ( pre underclocked ) is this true

Underclocked, for the Nexus 5 , I never saw this, have you a link?
All Nexus 5 are clocked at max 2,26 Ghz, nothing less... It seems that there is different variants of the S800 (clocked at 2,4/2,5 Ghz) but the S800 in the Nexus 5 it's 2,26 Ghz (MSM8974AA).
Maybe you mean this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)#Snapdragon_800?
I have no issues with battery life ... I consistently get 14-20 hours of use with 3-5 hours of screen time or 2-3 hours of screen with 1-2 hours of voice.
Auto brightness, GPS on, nothing special.

Oh thank goodness, I saw some reviews saying it comes pre-throttled to save battery
Thanks
battery life is terrible but after some modification, it better a lot.

I get 24 hours and 5 to 6 screen time. Tweaked heavily with battery life in mind.
Its nearly as good as my Moto x.
