I'm pretty sure I soft bricked my verizon m8. Not sure how, It was running fine on Skyfall for a month now. I rebooted my phone because it was acting really slow. Now all I get is a black screen. When I try to revert to any nandroids it says it's successful yet I still see a black screen. Not sure what to do here, with my Samsung S4 I would just Odin back to stock. I need to fix this phone asap because my kids can only reach me at this number. Please someone tell me how to get this going again.

If your s-off you can try the Ruu which restores it back to factory. Maybe that will help you.

I tried it and it says it fails because it can't allocate that size file onto the phone. When I go in to twrp it says that my phone isn't mounting the system and anytime I tell it to do so it immediately drops the mount again. I'm at a loss here....

Rename the zip to 0P6BIMG.zip, put it on your external sdcard and flash it that way.
I had the same error you are receiving and flashing from the sdcard worked for me.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
I had named it to RUUM8 and moved to my external SD and attempted to flash it. It failed instantly. Does it NEED to be named OP6BIMG.zip?
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Also the only way I can get anything on my micro SD right now is to plug it in to another phone and drag and drop the file on to the card from there. Does that botch things up or am I ok in doing it that way? I don't have an adapter for the card to read in my computers slot....
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I don't believe that will screw anything up since you're copying it to your external card. Also, the zip has to be named OP6BIMG.zip otherwise it won't flash in boot loader.

@Anthony825 the above advice is correct. Make sure your sd card is formatted as fat32. Otherwise bootloader won't detect it. That's a leading zero too...not a capital O. Cut copy and paste this...

So .zip has to be in the name? twrp detected the memory card and I tried to boot RUUM8 from it and it failed. Is that because it wasn't named properly and/or because my cats was never formatted after I took it out of the package?

You shouldn't be using twrp for an ruu. The file extension is zip. So if you were looking at the sd card on your PC you would see the .zip part. You would run that from bootloader. Twrp will never flash it

If you have everything right your bootloader should pick it up. If your phone boots up in fastboot mode choose the bootloader option from the menu and you should see it look for that file by name.

I'm more than certain that it's happening to those who flashed the custom boot.img in Odin for root access early on. Happened to me as well. Ended up doing a complete factory restore using the stock image and it disappeared. I've rooted via the new method, am running Synergy Rom, and the custom screen no longer shows.

All the sim card is for is for connecting to Verizon (somewhat like AT&T's sim cards) putting the sim card from your Nexus wouldn't mean anything.
As Nit3mare said s3 was rooted using boot.img but until now there was no unlocked padlock image when booting ( at least i power off the phone twice a day). It just showed up after accidental sim card swap.

And as far as your sim card theory goes, I came straight from the Gnex myself. Popped my sim card in, was good to go with no issues. It's the boot image used.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
it's not sim card theory. I just want to know what did trigger this. after reflashing to stock it had been gone for a while. root the phone using Noxius Ninja's tool then put back everything on the phone again like root explorer, tb, rom manager etc.. Now unlocked padlock image is back then device stature is from NORMAL to MODIFED. probably one of those apps which needs root access. now i suspect cwm. but as long as i could go back to stock i should have no problem.
I doubt you've completely reverted to stock. Flashing a stock rom is not reverting to complete stock. The reason why you are getting the custom screen, is because of the Odin root method, and that's that.
So, I flashed CM10 nightly. Now I cannot get it to mount the external sd card. Ti backup will not recognize it, nor can I pull up any of the photos or music that are stored there. Any ideas?

I know you might not want to hear this, but it might be your SD card...
Those things don't last forever and errors on them can sometimes be tricky to diagnose because bad sectors can sometimes still be read even if they are bad.
My suggestion, if your PC can still read the card then you should start by backing everything up. Then, try using another SD card in the phone. If the phone can read that, then there might be something wrong with the first card. You can also try using the phone to reformat the problem card.
Try to debug in a way that determines if maybe the card is the problem. Just the other day I had a 32 gig card go bad on me. It happened when my phone fell and came out of it's case. After that the card didn't work anymore. I remembered seeing "shock proof" on sandisk's descriptions, but I always thought it was a marketting thing. Maybe it wasn't. There's also a possibility that my card simply failed before I dropped the phone, and the reboot caused the system to remount the card and finally see the problem.
Either way, it went bad and I lost my stuff. A cautionary tale.

You should fully research and understand any root/mod process, before you start it. You also shouldn't rely on YouTube guides, this being one of the many reasons.

Ah ok, you did a factory reset in bootloader at some point didn't you, that corrupts your sd card. You will need to format it like Windows instructed, format it to fat32 format and you'll be able to access it again. Unfortunately any data you had on it has been wiped now, I hope there wasn't anything too important on there.

Thanks. I did reformat the SD card as windows asked. Then I copied both files onto my phones SD cars and followed the instructions again using twrp. I did not set it to format to anything specific. I will try it again when I get home tomorrow from work,. Thanks again for your help.

Just extract the boot.img from the root of the ROM zip, put it in your fastboot folder on your pc, bit your phone into bootloader and connect it to your pc, wait for it to say fastboot usb on your phone display then give this command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Now reboot your phone and it'll boot into the ROM.

I tried to install Cyanogenmod 11 on my Asus Tf300T with TWRP. It was suggested that I clear the internal storage COMPLETELY so I have as much of the 32GB possible. I accidentally cleared the micro sd card, which had CM11, the stock rom backup and all my other backups. I took the sd card out and put CM11 on it again, but on my PC. I cleared the right storage on my tablet and then re-inserted the micro sd card thinking it would recognize the file for CM11, it did not. I tried rebooting (and held down vol. down to go into custom recovery) and it stayed on the startup screen with the Asus logo. It is now impossible to do anything with the tablet. Is there still a way I can get the stock rom back on the tablet (if I download it from the net)?
