Recovery Loop - General Questions and Answers

I am stuck in recovery loop!My device is SG young gt s6312

I have attached a link to a Zip file, download the file and put that on external sd card using card reader and then flash it via your recovery. Another recovery appears, then in that recovery, Click on reboot system now. hope this works, if it doesn't, I am afraid you will have to go the hard way and flash stock ROM via odin. don't worry, flashing stock ROM won't erase ur files or Settings.

Got myself in a mess, please help!

Hey everyone,
So, I made a mess and I have no idea how to get out of it!
I tried to update to ICS using the file found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1395828
BUT I made a mistake by forgetting to rename it to update.zip (it was named Vsomethingsomethingsomething). Right now, my phone won't boot up past the startup screen (Google and the unlocked padlock). I was trying to upgrade from 2.3, had performed a factory reset before trying to update. Phone is essentially stuck on that screen. I can enter recovery by manually holding down the volume up button and power but can't move past that since I forgot to rename the Vsomethingsomething.zip file. Also, in a terrible and embarassing lapse of memory, I only backed up using TB and not CWM or ROM manager.
Can someone PLEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEEE help me? You will receive my endless thanks! I'm so screwed! Help! PLease! Thanks!
You hear of ODIN? search for it, and it will save you

Maybe you could flash CWM via fastboot.
Download latest CWM image file: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.2-crespo.img
Then, you can fully wipe your phone using CWM, and then flash the zip file.
One thing to note: the file you're talking about, that Vsomethingsomething.zip is an OTA update from 2.3.6.
If you're upgrading straightly from 2.3, go grab the full update, the file name is Zsomethingsomething.zip
Here you go: http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/ZD3PyN0t.zip
Download a rom that you want to flash. If you don't have a rom in mind then use CyanogenMod 9 from here: http://get.cm/get/2jI
Boot into recovery.
Mounts & storage -> Mount USB Storage
Copy the cm9 zip you downloaded onto your phone's memory.
Go back a few times
Wipe data/factory reset.
Install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, choose the zip you downloaded.
Once it is done reboot your phone.
Note: Your phone will not have the android market on it yet. To get the android market just flash this file after you flash the cm9 zip. http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
EDIT: If you don't have CWM installed anymore you will need to install it before you flash a rom. Put your phone into the bootloader. Then do this command over fastboot: "fastboot flash recovery C:\whatever\folder\the\file\is\in\recovery.img
Here is the recovery file: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo.img

Thanks so much! I can't even get into fastboot mode (plugged USB in, held down vol up+down + power), I'm still stuck on the Google & unlocked padlock screen. Suggestions?
Thanks for all the help so far. Since I'm going to be reflashing anyway, any chance I can just flash right to ICS? How do I do this? It would get rid of the step of me experimenting-then-screwing-up.
I tried what you recommended and it worked! I even managed to get up to 4.0.3 BUT now I have run into a bigger problem: no 3G reception! I have been searching online for about 4 hours now and I still can't figure out how to get a connection. I haven't managed to get CWM going and stock recovery just keeps giving me installation aborted messages. Advice? i just seem to have dug the hole deeper!
What phone do you have? The i9020A, i9020T or i9023? You'll be best knowing which phone before flashing any new radios to (most likely) fix your reception problem.
I believe KB3 for one will work regardless of (GSM) radio though. To flash radio:
fastboot flash radio radio.img
while connected via usb and in fastboot mode.
EDIT: From your other thread it looks like you have the 4G (koodo is CDMA isn't it?). You'll want an NS4G radio to flash.
So why all the hard work to flash a system img of an outdated rom? You know we are up to 4.04? And the stock odin version has the radio?

To flash custom ROM's you must do this steps:
1. Flash the same firmware version which is your custom ROM is based on
2. Install DoomKernel
3. In some cases installation of prerooted stock firmwares is needed
4. Connect your device to the PC, rename ROM's .zip file into "update.zip", upload update.zip file into your SD card, reboot in recovery mode (eg volume up during DoomKernel bootlogo for SXS)
5. Backup, wipe data, wipe dalvik, factory reset
6. Install from SD card - update.zip
That's it
No Recovery For my Device yet But Got the Rom Via FastBoot

[Q] Rom installation via rom manager bootloops

Clockword Mod Recovery is automatically installed when I flash the boot .img that is extracted from the rom file via flashtools method but Cant install CWM from rom manager as it doesnt supports my device and installing a rom via rom manger boot loops as rom manager while installing doesnt install the kernel provided with the rom file as it is running the current running rom kernel..
Steps I use to flash a rom
First I copy the gapps and custom rom zip folder onto sd card
Extract boot.img file from the custom rom on my pc
Open Flashtool
Open recovery my phone and wipe and format data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache.
Shut the phone
Connect my phone in fastboot mode by pressin volume buttons
Flastool displays that my device is sucessfully connected in fastboot mode
Click thunder sign in flashtool
Select fastboot mode
Select kernel to flash
Select the boot.img file that I previously extracted from the custom rom file
The kernel is flashed
Then i go into recovery
Again Wipe and format data,Wipe Cache,Wipe Dalvik Cache,.
Install Zip from sd card
Install custom rom zip file and gapps zip file
Installation is done. Then I reboot the phone

Cant flash recovery

I Downloaded the CWM ROM Manager from the play store and it updated me from Rouge Recovery to CWM 6.... something. Problem is that this new version of CWM will not mount my SD card, so I cant flash anything, including a new Recovery. I tried using Rouge Recoveryys nvflash method to flash a new recovery from my pc but it didnt work( here are the instructions i followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123429). I installed the drivers for my TF101 without issue, but when I run the .bat file it just dissconnects the device and does nothing. Any help would be great, i just want to find another way to replace my recovery.
EDIT: Problem Solved http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180 instant recovery flash, threw me back to CWM 3. something but it mounted my sd card and BOOM good to go.

Galaxy Tab S (SM-T800) ODIN don't recognise

I tried to install lineage OS and actually was able to install it. I thought of going back to Samsung but somehow wiped the device clean. I now have TWRP (V2.8.6.0) on SD card which boots in recovery. But I don't know how to flash another image on it.
The SD card (32GB) has one boot partition and another one of about 3 GB. I copied this image but can't find it anywhere in TWRP file explorer. I really love this device's display and don't want to let it go to waste.

Download the lineageOS ROM file and flash it via TWRP. Then, boot into lineageOS, when it boots into system, power the device off. Download mode should work and be recognized by Odin now.
Then, download your device's stock Samsung firmware if you haven't already downloaded it.
Then, boot the device into download mode and flash the firmware via Odin.

Thanks, Droiddriven a long process but definitely worth trying over the weekend. I'll report back by Monday.
