I haven't seen a lot of direct comparison between the two phones. Can someone who has used both of them give their input?
Barring that, can anyone give me a give to stick with Samsung? I have liked my SG I but I am able to upgrade now and want either the II or the HTC. The HTC is VERY, VERY tempting, but I worry that since it is new there may be issues. I am also worried about the fact that the battery is not removable. What do you do if (and when) the phone freezes?
So thoughts.... HTC or Galaxy S II?
There's a button con fig to reset.don't worry lol..

If you're on T-Mobile get the One S. I had the international Galaxy SII two days ago and now I have the One S. I love the One S so far and have found nothing wrong with it. The screen, though similar, looks much better on the One S. It feels faster as well, even if through benchmarks it might not be.
I was on Tmo-sgs2 before One S and you can't even compare the two. One S better screen. Better processor. Better build quality. So satisfied I think I'm going to go rub it on my naughty spots....sorry TMI.

Just came from a GSII and holding a One S versus holding the plasticky cheap-feeling Samsung is like night and day IMHO.
But if you have a huge library of music and don't feel comfortable with a built-in battery, the GSII is still a decent choice.

Thanks guys. Stopped by Costco to see what they were offering. Got it $30 cheaper than at the Tmobile store, got a $35 bill credit, AND I don't have to do the damned mail in rebate. With that deal, I just couldn't resist.

How are the screens of the ons and s2 comparing?
I sold my s2 and waiting for something to buy now. I disliked the plastic from the s2 and the touchwizz interface. But maybe the s3 is gonna be better on those 2 points.
I would like to get the one s, but how is the pentile screen when compared to the s2 rgb? Is there difference in sharpness?

There is Sense though. Speedwise the sgs2 is nice but I miss sense
Lol...when the first no sense rom came out..I waved bye bye to sense...I liked the previous sense version.sense 4 I don't gel with. Touchwiz is crap mate...if I had the s2...cyanogenmod would be rocking her straight away. The more incarnations of android...the less I think sense or touchwiz will be needed.
As I said though...love sense just not 4.
One plus point where I think the one s wins is the camera. Amazing

I jumped from the SGS2 to the One S and the difference is night and day. But consideration has to be made that I was also on a SGS before the 2 and the TW made it feel like I just went to a bigger version of the SGS. Or more bloated version. So I think the jump to better made phone and to Sense was easier. The speed and fluidity of the One S is also so much faster. The ability to use the phone one handed is nice too. Resolution is nicer and screen seems a lot brighter...even putting them on the same brightness and doing a side by side comparison. Battery is also great on the One S. I'm not drinking the Koolaid or anything but really I am impressed with this device. IMHO One S wins hands down. But like I said my opinion.

I wouldn't make any decisions until Thursday has passed tbh.. See what Samsung's next phone is saying. If it is just a quad core variant of the Nexus & SGSII with a new shell then the One S has got to be the winner.

can you tell me the reason for One s?
If you like speed, play games and don´t care about sense go for one s. If you can´t stand sense or you aren´t going to play or give the phone an intense use go for nexus.
Well this phone is more fully featured and cm10 seems to have a good future on this phone so I don't see why not but the nexus is nicer looking and more compatible with things such as os updates, apps, games

I have both phones, i must say that if you care about battery and performance vs a bigger better screen and faster update directly from Google. I would go with the HTC one s, i can get about 6 hours of screen time compare to my galaxy nexus 3 1/2 to 4 hours. **note** Both phones are running custom roms.

I suggest you try both phones and decide for yourself. Neither phone is inherently better than the other, but there's a decidedly different feel to each. The only clear difference between the two applies if you're an avid worldwide traveler - Nexus pentaband is the way to go.

Many roms have control over the size of the bar. Just compared gnex to wife's one s. It (gnex) is wider (much) and about the same length (notification areas lined up at the top). No sexual references here lol One s does have a brighter screen though.

Oh haha didn't know about the nav bar size changing.
Sent from my HTC One S using the XDA-Developers app
Already have a GNex and just received my HTC One S and the length of the actual screen minus Gnex nav bar is exactly the same. If you factor in the GNEx nav bar the GNex is longer. The plus side to that is with custom ROM's or an app you can modify the nav bar buttons to do whatever you like plus add about 6 buttons instead of just 3. You can make it do it's main function plus a long press function so really it is 2 actions per button. I added a power button on my nav bar to turn the screen off or power off to save on using the actual power button. You can also make the nav bar disappear with the GNex and it disappears for when playing games or videos. I think this is a major plus compared to the one S. Also the One S width is significantly thinner. So the size difference is they are both exactly the same length and the GNex is much wider. The Navigation bar customizations are really handy and make the GNex the clear winner! The HTC screen is mainly only brighter cause of all the bright white menu screens. Also you can modify the color settings with the GNex to look beautiful or the way you like and it actually makes the GNex brighter.
The bottom line is the only things that are better than the GNex is the specs and the camera. The size of the Gnex and the software wins over I think. By the time the One S gets Jellybean the GNex will be getting Key lime Pie, so the One S will always be a step behind so if i had to choose between the 2 my choice would be the GNex hands down. New customizations for camera in jellybean make the camera good enough for me!
I'll trade my One S for an galaxy nexus...

I have to agree I've was testing the Galaxy Note 2 last few days and whilst the display on that is an improvement over the SGS3 it was still Meh compared to the HOX.
Sure AMOLED has better contrast and blacks but SLCD2 is just sexy. Crisp text and sharp. Whites are better, colours are less over saturated, brighter, and my god SLCD3 is supposed to be even better!

I really can't tell the difference. I used my friends gs3 yesterday and it looked perfectly fine and usable to me.
I know we get better viewing angles but during normal browsing i'm fine with either.
I completely agree. My girlfriend has an S3 and the blue tint is incredibly noticeable to me. The One X has the best screen of any device I've ever owned, by far.
I'm not thrilled with HTC or at&t nowadays.
I'm considering switching to Sprint within the next week.
But all the mass marketing doesn't warm me to the SG3 either.
Sorry but the bawdy home button and ugly camera and sensor holes are butt ugly.
Lots of cheap feeling plastic, roundy corners, and Touchwiz - all with a bluish tint display that's horrible in sunlight?
No thanks.
SG3 has never been on my shopping list, and won't be.

Not to mention the fact that it gets hot when idling... Maybe it would be nice in the cold winter months ahead
After owning an iPhone for 4 years straight, I vowed to never purchase a phone with a physical home button again, and I will stick to it! Samsung dropped the ball with build quality on the SIII, anyone who argues in favor of it over a HOX simply hasn't had enough time with both devices.

I have never liked the screens on the galaxy phones. Look close in person and compare. Regardless of all other factors, the devs will make a speedy Rom with that hardware, and the build quality will be great on both.
The screen will be what you will look at more than anything else. Make sure you won't regret it. Pentile is irritating, even at hi res IMHO.
Black blacks and impressive contrast ratios are good, but seeing gaps between my pixels just ticks me off. That's just me.

Well then please make it HTC lol.
Apple is good at choosing hardware and writing software that is a bit behind the times, and consequently everything works and is smooth all the time.
That being said, I find iOS totally boring. My work bought me an iPad mini, which is cool, but I just can't get interested.

I have been a Samsung guy for the past couple of years and still am for the most part (waiting for the note 3) but to me the HTC one is much better than the galaxy s4. Two weeks ago I had my first HTC one, loved it but I had to get the S4 so i sold the One and got the s4. It's a good phone but it stutters A LOT, you cannot use the phone for a full minute without the phone stuttering and I'm not exaggerating. Also even though I always liked touchwiz, it's getting really old and needs an ui revamp badly. At the end of the day it's a matter of preference but to me the HTC one is a much more polish device. The s4 features are cool for the first 30 minutes but after a little while they just get in the way and become more annoying than anything. (Except multi window and air view ). The one display is beyond amazing (the one x display is the best 720p display and this puts it to shame), the speakers are incredible and I find myself liking blinkfeed a lot. Less features but way more useful. To each his own

As far as I'm concerned Samsung is in my ****list. How they can release such poor build quality at such high prices is beyond me. HTC time and time again is a perfect combination of power, features and build quality. And ew ew ew touchwiz. Also, would much rather have a phone and a tablet then a cross between the two. Having a smart phone you can't operate with one hand seems a bit useless to me but that's just my two cents. Also +1 on the nexus line of phones if for no other reason than having the latest software asap.

The One is a nice phone but has a lot of bezel for the small screen. And contrast is pretty low but probably same as N5 if it has IPS too. You can be pretty certain the feel in your hand of the HTC One will be better, the precision crafted silver body is perfect. And front-facing speakers on One too.
One:
sleek design
front-facing speakers
N5:
unlocked
AOSP
faster, newer guts
prob pentaband, LTE for all
bigger screen

just wanted to add that i really enjoyed the Beats audio and the boom sound speakers from the one.
im contemplating on selling it for the N5 idk yet =/
I have the HTC One GPE and had the Nexus 4 before. Except for stock Android and the guarantee to get the newest Android first the Nexus line is obsolete in my opinion. Bootloader is unlockable. It's easy as pie to unlock flash recovery s/off root on a HTC one. You just have to email and get a code from HTC which the respond immediately. S/off is simple and if you wanna there is even a toolkit that does it all just like a nexus toolkit.

Just a few got their tegra 3 endeavoru HTC One X S-off... And they are not willing to share this.... Or maybe I missed that one but I doubt it ... For me HTC is a one time deal nothing more nothing less

Depends on what each person is looking for. My opinion, I like Sense. Buying the One would give me the best of both worlds (Sense & AOSP). Yes, the N5 WILL have more dev support, but people shouldn't let that be the main determining factor. Get the phone that you really want.
