New One s or Galaxy nexus? - HTC One S

thinking of buying this phone new on craigslist for $340 or just shell out a few more bucks for the google nexus. What do you guys think? This will be a major upgrade from a dumb phone for me. any opinion will help

Unless you like Sense, always go for the Nexus. Lot of people getting scammed with blacklisted phones on CL as well.

One s definetly ...

can you tell me the reason for One s?

If you like speed, play games and don´t care about sense go for one s. If you can´t stand sense or you aren´t going to play or give the phone an intense use go for nexus.

Well this phone is more fully featured and cm10 seems to have a good future on this phone so I don't see why not but the nexus is nicer looking and more compatible with things such as os updates, apps, games

I have both phones, i must say that if you care about battery and performance vs a bigger better screen and faster update directly from Google. I would go with the HTC one s, i can get about 6 hours of screen time compare to my galaxy nexus 3 1/2 to 4 hours. **note** Both phones are running custom roms.

I'm one of those ppl who have been scam on Craig's list, i bought a brand new htc one s (currently using right now) from there and it turns out to have been block for fraud on tmobile. I tried contacting the seller back but had no luck in doing so. Luckily i was able to unlock the phone and use it on at&t for the time being...

I suggest you try both phones and decide for yourself. Neither phone is inherently better than the other, but there's a decidedly different feel to each. The only clear difference between the two applies if you're an avid worldwide traveler - Nexus pentaband is the way to go.

One S all the way! S4 is the best processor out

If you factor in the nav buttons at the bottom of the G-Nex's screen it's the same size as the One S...if not smaller.

Many roms have control over the size of the bar. Just compared gnex to wife's one s. It (gnex) is wider (much) and about the same length (notification areas lined up at the top). No sexual references here lol One s does have a brighter screen though.

Oh haha didn't know about the nav bar size changing.
Sent from my HTC One S using the XDA-Developers app

Already have a GNex and just received my HTC One S and the length of the actual screen minus Gnex nav bar is exactly the same. If you factor in the GNEx nav bar the GNex is longer. The plus side to that is with custom ROM's or an app you can modify the nav bar buttons to do whatever you like plus add about 6 buttons instead of just 3. You can make it do it's main function plus a long press function so really it is 2 actions per button. I added a power button on my nav bar to turn the screen off or power off to save on using the actual power button. You can also make the nav bar disappear with the GNex and it disappears for when playing games or videos. I think this is a major plus compared to the one S. Also the One S width is significantly thinner. So the size difference is they are both exactly the same length and the GNex is much wider. The Navigation bar customizations are really handy and make the GNex the clear winner! The HTC screen is mainly only brighter cause of all the bright white menu screens. Also you can modify the color settings with the GNex to look beautiful or the way you like and it actually makes the GNex brighter.
The bottom line is the only things that are better than the GNex is the specs and the camera. The size of the Gnex and the software wins over I think. By the time the One S gets Jellybean the GNex will be getting Key lime Pie, so the One S will always be a step behind so if i had to choose between the 2 my choice would be the GNex hands down. New customizations for camera in jellybean make the camera good enough for me!

I'll trade my One S for an galaxy nexus...

If the bootloader is unlocked, I might consider it. However, odds are, it isn't. MySense isn't exactly my favorite. The device itself is basically a chubbier Glacier with a keyboard, and not as nice of a screen as the Sensation. I really wish they would've ditched the ugly chrome stylings, but I guess that's their "brand" for this line. The 3.7" form factor is also a little too small for my tastes, and I'm looking to get at least a 4" screen next time. Not to mention: I'm still kinda pissed that T-Mo dumped the Glacier so hard, providing only a single crappy official accessory (BT dock) that didn't make use of the phone's docking pin feature, and smashed in the power button.
The camera is interesting, but the standard Google camera app leaves a lot to be desired, and I would be rooting this thing for sure.
At this point, I think I'm happy with my Glacier until the Nexus 3 comes around. If I had to pick a phone between then, I would prefer the Galaxy S II or the Sensation. How about you guys?

Exactly, why can't they make a 4" or 4.3" qwerty slider. Don't think people will mind the bigger bulk right...?????
I don't think you need a bigger screen if you have a keyboard ... Just my thought ....
Sent from my My Touch 4G using XDA Premium App
While having a bigger screen does mean bigger touchscreen keyboard and less errors, nothing can ever replace a hardware keyboard thats/as was solid as the g1 imo.
I just can't understand why every manufacturer has a hard time making a 4' screen with a 5 row keyboard? I agree the G1 had the best keyboard, hence why I just upgraded last week because it was extremely outdated.

How is the One X? From a SGS3 User

Hello One X users ,
Just wonderin what I might've missed out when I decided to get the SGS3. One X seemed pretty tempting at the time.
So how's development, the community and the phone itself?
The community is certainly more close than other forums like the GS3 and One S, One X Intl. etc.
Development is good unless you are on the latest AT&T 2.20 software, which a previous exploit used to root has been patched, so if you are on 2.20 you can't root yet.
Phone itself is awesome, awesome camera, stock software etc. IMO, the GS3 touchwiz is foul, Sense 4.0 is much more elegant.

Development is solid. It's a good community and the amount of updates and roms isn't overwhelming, yet you can find decent improvements every week.
In terms of the phone, the One X takes the cake with it's screen alone. The Super LCD is superior to the SGS3's pentile AMOLED. It actually rivals iPhone's retina display, despite the larger size.
I think what made me decide between the two was when I tried out Flipboard on both phones. The One X was sharper, smoother and faster. The SGS3 seemed fast when using Touchwiz, but Flipboard was jittery and blurry.
But of course, everyone has different tastes. I do miss the removable battery and expandable memory, and extra RAM would be nice.
I'm still blown away by the screen mostly

The screen and the fact it's not made out of so cheap plastic like the Samsung. It is still plastic but being made out of a solid one piece makes it seem more solid and a little heavier too which is great.

Lol, not a troll thread. I'm serious. And yes, the screen probably is far superior to the AMOLED on the S3. I had an iPhone and the S3's screen can't even compare. I gotta go play with the One X soon lol.
Speaking of which, how's rooting for Canadian Carriers?
Coming from a few Samsung devices I miss having a screen that doesn't scratch spontaneously, the microSD slot, USB OTG, TouchWiz codec support, and task650 (super smooth, stable, complete AOKP).
The screen is nice, the camera is great. Sense 4 is growing on me. Still too much change for the sake of change for my taste, but light years ahead of sense 3.x, and something you have to get used to if you want the best battery life and camera.

I have to agree I've was testing the Galaxy Note 2 last few days and whilst the display on that is an improvement over the SGS3 it was still Meh compared to the HOX.
Sure AMOLED has better contrast and blacks but SLCD2 is just sexy. Crisp text and sharp. Whites are better, colours are less over saturated, brighter, and my god SLCD3 is supposed to be even better!

I really can't tell the difference. I used my friends gs3 yesterday and it looked perfectly fine and usable to me.
I know we get better viewing angles but during normal browsing i'm fine with either.
I completely agree. My girlfriend has an S3 and the blue tint is incredibly noticeable to me. The One X has the best screen of any device I've ever owned, by far.
I'm not thrilled with HTC or at&t nowadays.
I'm considering switching to Sprint within the next week.
But all the mass marketing doesn't warm me to the SG3 either.
Sorry but the bawdy home button and ugly camera and sensor holes are butt ugly.
Lots of cheap feeling plastic, roundy corners, and Touchwiz - all with a bluish tint display that's horrible in sunlight?

After owning an iPhone for 4 years straight, I vowed to never purchase a phone with a physical home button again, and I will stick to it! Samsung dropped the ball with build quality on the SIII, anyone who argues in favor of it over a HOX simply hasn't had enough time with both devices.

HTC One. I like the look of ours better

Not too many photos are out but I like the look of our One X better than the new One. It looks too much like the new Sprint EVO and the BB Z10, both of which I find ugly lol. If i could get One internals in the One X body, I'd be all over it. Let's see what Samsung has to offer.

I like the look of the One, but I still prefer the look of the One X. I'm not a huge fan of the dual speaker look, and I'm definitely not a fan of the missing multitasking button, especially since it was just done to make room for the stupid HTC logo.
I actually like the looks of the One. Its more square than the OneX. The camera is recessed instead of sticking out like a nipple. All hardware components have been giving a significant bump (unlike the differences between the OneX and the OneX+). I like the looks of the white/silver version but the black looks nice too. It seems HTC strayed away from the polycarbonite backing.
Ill be getting One...
Edit: I also like the flip case and the kickstand case that HTC are rolling out with it.
Yeah I actually use that multitask button lol. The new layout makes it look like the HTC logo is the home button lol. Maybe it'll be different on the ATT version. I really don't wanna have to stare at a big huge ATT logo however....

Here's another problem - AOSP ROMs won't support the usage of the Home Button for Multitasking out of the box. It could eventually be coded around for the specific device branch, but it's yet-another headache for developers that doesn't have any good reason to exist.
I won't be getting one.. Not only will it be released before my contract, but my HOX is broken, and I just ordered my Nexus 4 today..
So done with carrier branded phones, and done with HTC. While the HOX is one of the best phones out there, the company can just rot. They don't care about anyone but themselves and their money.
And knowing HTC, the new One will be superseded in 4-7 months time - and that would really pi** me off if I bought it.

double tapping home screen, but i believe this was just mentioned. it does give a lot of functions to the home button, but this is what's happened over the years with iPhones, too. I actually prefer it to having a number of buttons, as long as it doesn't get to the point of sacrificing available functions.
as for which one i liek better, i think they both have an interesting look. I'd be quite interested in seeing how the One feels in hand. I think the aluminum body may give it the slight edge in looks, but the feel of the HOX is tremendous, to me.

well I spent a about two hours playing with both phones, both were very good phones, what made
the HTC stand out to me was first pinch and zoom , when i did this on the S4 it would not realign the
words into a single column , which meant i had to scroll side ways on the website while I read a article. I used CNet , Fox news , phonenet , TechRadar to test..
next was the sound ,
For such small speakers , the HTC One put out decent sound, makes it nice if you just want some back ground music
with out having to use the headphones...granted I use it in semi-quite environments ..
The S4 had a plastic feel to it while the HTC one felt really solid, you can twist the S4 where the HTC One you cannot..
I did give the S4 a solid going over, it did have a kinda cool thing where it would follow your eye movement, it work but
but needed improvement... I would have rather seen Samsung spend money on the phone then marketing
like a metal case.. and HTC gives you the tools to unlock the boot.
Depe ds on your preference. One has the stronger body, and S4 has a removable back, which means interchanging batteries, and getting custom designed backs for it. The S4 also has a micro sd (sorry if this was mentioned, for I'm only skimming through), which the One provides more storage for the same price.
The S4 focuses much more on the software features, while the One focuses more on the design of the hardware and software without being too intrusive or overbearing. Sense 5 UI found on the One is pretty sweet and lighter than previous versions of Sense, and also lighter than TouchWiz. TouchWiz is much more fun to explore with the many things that you can do with it.
They both have similar processor, with an exception of the clock speeds (the S4 is 200MHz faster, but the average user - and even some power users - will not tell the difference.
I'm intentionally omitting my preference, for that is irrelevant to your decision. I'm not trying to influence your decision, but provide my unbiased opinions. (Hopefully, no one has enough insight to my decision...)
