HTC One vs Nexus 5 ?! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay guys I need some serious help on this decission (Just can't decide!).
I have a GNEX now and it's been such a great phone ! But it's slowly dieing on me. I really have my eye set one the Nexus 5 and have been looking forward to it for such a long time. I'd get the locked down HTC then keep fingers crossed that they maybe, might but probably not provide updates for it.

I have the HTC One and its an awesome some phone and I'm going to buy a n5. I can't say which one I like more since I don't have the n5 yet. All I can tell you is the HTC One won't disappoint is a great phone. I love the IR blaster it's the one phone feature of all these things they add now a days that I actually use alot.

The One is a nice phone but has a lot of bezel for the small screen. And contrast is pretty low but probably same as N5 if it has IPS too. You can be pretty certain the feel in your hand of the HTC One will be better, the precision crafted silver body is perfect. And front-facing speakers on One too.
One:
sleek design
front-facing speakers
N5:
unlocked
AOSP
faster, newer guts
prob pentaband, LTE for all
bigger screen

Small screen?
4.7 isn't big but it's also not in any form of the imagination small. Unless you are comparing it to a phablet which isn't a phone its a phablet.

I had the HTC one when it first came out for 2 week's I sent it back due to problem's...Have the N4 now...for me I never really used the IR blaster ( never used it on my S4A also ) but if I had to choose Id get the nexus 5 the only thing IMO your losing is boomsound you get newer hardware and can and will most likely be cheaper off contract also then the ONE

just wanted to add that i really enjoyed the Beats audio and the boom sound speakers from the one.
im contemplating on selling it for the N5 idk yet =/

I have the HTC One GPE and had the Nexus 4 before. Except for stock Android and the guarantee to get the newest Android first the Nexus line is obsolete in my opinion. I saw pics of the N5 and it confirmed my choice. It looks pretty ugly and I don't care about the latest or best specs. I will get kitkat on my HTC pretty soon after release and have a beautiful device with pretty awesome specs.

Lol. In comparison to my N4 it is amazing on stock JB 4.3. I get easily 20h with medium use. I don't play games so not sure how it would be with very heavy use. Standby drain is also very low. I charge over night so everything longer than 24h makes no sense for my habits.

Without a doubt N5 just because of the HTC locked down bootloader sh*t.. And their retarded devsite to unlock it.. Not to mention their S-ON... crap. But it's just my opinion coming from a HTC One X endeavoru.

N5 without doubt. New HDW, designed for 4.4. I'm coming by my actual GNEX and the next will be N5 (better with CM ROM)

All HTC phones, and I repeat ALL HTC phones have crap batteries, they die fast and charges very slow. It looks good has a great build quality but its a POS. I will pick a plastic S4 or N3 or N5 over it every time.

Bootloader is unlockable. It's easy as pie to unlock flash recovery s/off root on a HTC one. You just have to email and get a code from HTC which the respond immediately. S/off is simple and if you wanna there is even a toolkit that does it all just like a nexus toolkit.

Depends on what each person is looking for. My opinion, I like Sense. Buying the One would give me the best of both worlds (Sense & AOSP). Yes, the N5 WILL have more dev support, but people shouldn't let that be the main determining factor. Get the phone that you really want.

[Q] HTC ONE S or Galaxy S2?

My girlfriend is due for an upgrade she is currently on T-Mobile.
Was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on which is a better phone, the HTC One S or the Galaxy S2?
Not really comparable
The One S by a mile IMHO, simply because its so much more compact and efficient
A very nice posting from my brick
Still looking for other peoples thoughts on these 2 devices

HTC one s, way sexy, plus you get beats and ics pre-installed.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I think its personal user opinion. I have only ever used HTC and Samsung devices so for me it's like comparing green apples to yellow apples. Find display models and play with them for a while, see what feels better, which one has what you need from a phone. My girlfriend and almost everyone I know has and loves the iPhone but i really cant stand them. So you/she has to decide for yourself/herself.

LMAO!! True! But she is still in contract....
it all depends if you like sense, but if you're asking based solely on the phones i would go with the one s since its htc flagship device now and its one day old. in addition the one s is likely to get updated while the gs2 has already been upgraded from gingerbread to ics
I think you should get the One X and she should get the One S...but don't take my word for it.
HTC all the way
HTC customer support is fantastic. They also have very good UI's. Hands down, you won't be disjointed.

I would choose HTC, customization is fantastic, so too there very many rom
prefer one s . specially its new . ICS pre installed. and also its finishing is great. with these tow phones i prefer one s without any risk . s2 is past . one x is future ..
HTC is more solid, massive. But HTC phones are more expensive than Samsung.
These are both different generations of devices, I don't think you can really compare them.
Having said that, I'd choose the One S.

Plenty of threads there to compare...both are old phones now so doesn't matter what you buy. Wait for newer phones this holiday season, may be a new nexus or Note 2 or may be HTC Super phone or LG Snapdragon S4 quad core beast.
Now is not the time to waste and bother about One X vs SGS3 debate.

GS3 - JB
The choice is yours.
Your just gonna get answers from the people who own each phone.
I could sit here and say that the One X is twenty times better, but thats becuase im a One X owner and have always liked HTC.
HTC for me just get the design right, on certain phones. Which I LOVE especially the HOX!
I have used both, and must say I still prefer the HOX but it is just personal preference, if you want a phone that looks like a pebble, get the SG3! if you want a beautiful phone get the HOX !

Htc one x vs Nexus 4

I've recently been thinking of switching to Nexus 4 i've been doing research and all i read is positive feedback but i want to know if it would be worth it to change from an HTC ONE X to a nexus 4 , whats better
The N4 is undobutedly better but why upgrade from a One X? The hardware of the One X is still good, IMO it's not worth upgrading to a N4. Spend some time reading then flash CM10.1 and you're good to go.

If you don't buy the N4 from the Play Store then there's no point in buying it at all. The brilliant thing about the N4 is that you get so much for such a low price, if you take away the value for money then you end up seeing that there are probably better choices available.
I've just ordered a N4 myself from the Play Store, but I currently have an HD2 so it's a pretty huge upgrade. As for the person who said 'Nexus 4 has a awful camera comparing to one x' and that it has an inferior screen, they're just exaggerating. The N4 camera is more than adequate, and not significantly worse than those on the One X, SGS3 and iPhone 5. The screen of the N4 is a bit odd (15:9 rather than 16:9 without on screen buttons) but has a higher pixel density than the One X's and probably equally good colour reproduction.
If latest Android update is most important to you, go for it.
Keep in mind you are losing LTE though.

I have never liked the screens on the galaxy phones. Look close in person and compare. Regardless of all other factors, the devs will make a speedy Rom with that hardware, and the build quality will be great on both.
The screen will be what you will look at more than anything else. Make sure you won't regret it. Pentile is irritating, even at hi res IMHO.
Black blacks and impressive contrast ratios are good, but seeing gaps between my pixels just ticks me off. That's just me.

Well then please make it HTC lol.
Apple is good at choosing hardware and writing software that is a bit behind the times, and consequently everything works and is smooth all the time.
That being said, I find iOS totally boring. My work bought me an iPad mini, which is cool, but I just can't get interested.

I would wait on the X phone and Nexus 5. IOS is good if you want your money's worth. My iPad 2 is still running silky smooth and my wife's iPhone 5 resells for $380! That's insane!
I have been a Samsung guy for the past couple of years and still am for the most part (waiting for the note 3) but to me the HTC one is much better than the galaxy s4. Two weeks ago I had my first HTC one, loved it but I had to get the S4 so i sold the One and got the s4. It's a good phone but it stutters A LOT, you cannot use the phone for a full minute without the phone stuttering and I'm not exaggerating. Also even though I always liked touchwiz, it's getting really old and needs an ui revamp badly. At the end of the day it's a matter of preference but to me the HTC one is a much more polish device. The s4 features are cool for the first 30 minutes but after a little while they just get in the way and become more annoying than anything. (Except multi window and air view ). The one display is beyond amazing (the one x display is the best 720p display and this puts it to shame), the speakers are incredible and I find myself liking blinkfeed a lot. Less features but way more useful. To each his own
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
As far as I'm concerned Samsung is in my ****list. How they can release such poor build quality at such high prices is beyond me. HTC time and time again is a perfect combination of power, features and build quality. And ew ew ew touchwiz. Also, would much rather have a phone and a tablet then a cross between the two. Having a smart phone you can't operate with one hand seems a bit useless to me but that's just my two cents. Also +1 on the nexus line of phones if for no other reason than having the latest software asap.

Nexus 5 vs. HTC One performance experience question.

I know these threads drive people nuts. I'm a phone junky. Over the last 2 years I've had at least 4 phones. Although i've had my HTC One since launch day - coming up on one year.
I hate skins on android. That's why I root and install an AOSP based ROM on my devices. I also like battery life and A2DP Bluetooth streaming.
So...anyone out there think the nexus is a worthwhile upgrade?. I'm already running KitKat. Software is no advantage the Nexus has. However... Is the Nexus a worthy upgrade? I have read that battery life was disappointing at launch. Is it still bad? What does the N5 offer over my One?

You're comparing a 350-400 dollar phone I suggest keeping g that 500-600$ MSRP phone you have..

I had the One before the N5. Nothing wrong with the One, but honestly the only thing I miss is the speakers. I personally like the bigger screen, and I'm getting better battery life now. Overall better experience, imo.

My 2 cents give the nexus the skip.
i had the htc one and the gs4.. sold my htc one to get the gs4.. then sold my gs4 to get the nexus 5.. i think the n5 is way better the both the gs4 and one.. thats just me.. this is my first nexus phone i love it.. i been threw like 6 top of the line phone in the past 3 yaers.. htc evo 4g.. htc evo 3d.. htc evo 4g LTE.. GS3. HTC ONE.. GS4... Nexus 5 is my fev phone out of all of them
I went from the GS4 to the N5 and haven't regretted it for a second. Out of 12 phones that I've owned over the last 3-4 years, this is easily the best one.
Get the N5 and keep the One.

So comparatively...battery life is on par?

Let me tell you a story:
Once upon a time, there was a guy who wanted an awesome new android phone. He decided to buy an HTC amaze as that was probably the best phone on the market at the time. He got it 1 month after the phone came out on the market and it was awesome. He enjoyed using it for 9 mos. before HTC decided to stop supporting their FLAGSHIP phone! Alas that phone was relegated to ICS forever.
Then, his girlfriend wanted a new phone and he thought, well, maybe it was just my bad luck to buy the HTC amaze right before HTC decided to realign their phone offerings. The HTC One S looks very good and it has the latest snapdragon S4 chip in it. So he bought her that phone and 9 mos later, HTC announces no more updates after android 4.1.2!
Moral of the story: stick with HTC one if you want an obsolete android OS in 1 year.

Battery life is as good or better. I still have my One and mainly use it to play music, but the Nexus outperforms it in every way and also seems to have a better antenna than the One. Plus, the Nexus has ART which I know is not supported on the HTC One because of Sense.
It's a very worthy upgrade. I do miss the speakers, Aux Sound Output, and sometimes a few 'Sense' things like BlinkFeed and the features in the stock messaging app.
I was in the same Situation like you and i dont regret getting the n5 at all. I had the GpE of the one and still the n5 beats it by a longshot. Speakers and build quality aside the n5 wins everything

Thanks. I have been teetering. I likely will order an N5. I'm going to wait another couple weeks first as a sanity check. But I seriously an leaning towards buying it.

Software doesn't concern me. I hate running skinned android. I root and flash custom ROMs. I mainly want to know if the new device will yield a better experience...
Battery life
Performance
I get the sound will not be on par with my One...the boom speakers are great.

I had the HTC One before the Nexus 5 as well, and I love the Nexus. The One is a great phone, but the One has 1) A faster chipset 2) bigger screen 3) STOCK Android (yay!!!)
However, if you're satisfied with your One.. just keep it. Unless you're dead set on having stock Android. The One does have some nice features, like the speakers (yes, stereo speakers) and very good build quality, compared to the Nexus 5 at least, which doesn't seem to fit together perfectly like the One.
As for battery life, I would say it's about equal. They both have the same size battery.

Good luck getting a 90% working ROM for the phone once htc stops supporting it. The Amaze and One S ROMs all have major things broken on it, whether it is Bluetooth or camera or something else not working or not working correctly. So I would say software for HTC phones are important.

The HTC One does have the benefit of being a GE supported device. Can't predict how that'll play out yet. Besides that, you statement is accurate. I came from ATT with and Atrix4g... the hardware is still great. But zero software support from the OEM and all the ROMs available aren't DD material for someone that uses their phone as part of business.
Hence the move to my HTC One on Sprint/Ting... Just to find out that I should have bought a cheap used nexus s and waited for a N5. :/
The way that I understand the GPE phones work is that Google releases the operating system to HTC and then they optimize it to work with their phone before they push out an update. So updates still have to pass through HTC. If they decide to end support for the one, I doubt they'll continue supporting the GPE phone.

That's just it. Even though the UI of the GPE One is all Google, it actually uses the stock Sense kernel. Once HTC stops updating the phone, it stops for the Google Edition as well.
