I've no idea what's causing this.
Every song in the music library is shown twice.
What could it be?

I cleared the cache, nothing happened.
Actually I noticed that Walkman isn't the only app that's been affected... Album, PlayerPro, Play Music... All of 'em.
Every photograph in Album in displayed twice. I checked my SD Card, there are no copies.
This is Weird!!!
Aw, and... This isn't happening to video files. Photos and songs are the only ones affected.
And sorry if all of this sounds vague...

This happened to me before. It was on a custom 4.2.2 rom, I forgot which. It had a script which mounted the internal SD card twice, one as /sdcard0 and another as /sdcard1. I think it was a swap script. Someone from that thread provided a patch. Are you using a custom rom?

sdcard0 is usually internal storage and sdcard1 is usually the external sd card. what do you mean by this?
I'm sure u changed ur internal with external memory. U can wait til it will fix itself or u can flash stock room again delete album Walkman etc and then exchange storage after that u can install them again

Aw, and, play music works just fine, nothing wrong with it.
Walkman, album and player pro are malfunctioning.
But... This doesn't happen to the items I added recently to the library.

NEED HELP!
I have been testing out several JB ROM available out there but I am having the same problem that the phone cannot scan all my media (no pics in gallery other then instant upload, music player got no song). But of coz I can see my files on my comp thru USB. I searched online and ppl suggested to clear cache on media and use rescan media but both not work.
edit: I go back to CM9 (ICS ROM) now and everything works fine...

clear the cache, going into settings/apps/all/gallery then music .../ and clear
then go to your sd card/android/data/ and clear the folders linked to the gallery (3dgallery blablabla) and the music player.
reboot your phone and dont touch for about 3 min to let it scan your sd card
thanks for suggestion but this doesn't help... i clear cache on gallery and music, delete com.android.3dgallery (no music folder in data) and reboot... wait... same thing

if your ROM Manager's version is v5.0.1.3, the issue cause by it. it has a bug that places .nomedia file in the wrong directory if directories are missing.
upgrade ROM Manager
del sdcard's .nomedia file that you don't need (especially root path's one)
reboot and the media service will scan you sdcard
after a few minute, you can see your media files again

Thank you so much. I completely wiped my phone and started from scratch and wasn't able to fix the problem. Now I read this and bingo, that was the problem. If I only I would have waited a day to wipe everything (I didn't back up because I figured that the error would have happened when I restored it too). But anyway thanks again!

But my music player is still unable to detect audio files. I even formatted sd card.. no luck.
I can only play individual audio files thru file explorer (astro)

Ok, just today my pictures + videos stopped showing up in MX Player or Gallery. My music shows up after an extensive scan from Poweramp (87 seconds when it normally only takes 10-20 seconds) I can also access storage via a file browsing app with no problems. I've already tried fixing permissions to no avail. Any idea what could be happening? Help?

Did you guys update rom manager? If you're stock, I don't believe there's anything you can do (nothing I've heard of anyway) If you're running a custom ROM, try reflashing the ROM and gapps and they should show up. (Read in another thread that it worked) Rom manager really screwed us over.

What I did:
Update Rom Manager -- delete any .nomedia files from your sd card -- clear cache/data on gallery/music/etc -- clear data on media storage --wipe cache/dalvik -- reboot Flashing won't get rid of the .nomedia files on SD
Maybe some unnecessary steps but worked
Found another instance of the .nomedia file. Found it by going in the Android folder then into the Data folder. Deleted it, cleared cash in gallery and music, rebooted into recovery, wiped dalvik then rebooted phone. It now sees my music with the on device only box checked.

Did you try to mount SD card through settings? Try that.
I had the same problem today, wouldn't recognize SD card. SONY support (?) said to mount DR via settings, or to reformat, than add music back onto SD. Said card might have corrupt files.
I say it might be a software problem.
Sony support, all around, is absolutely HORRENDOUS.
After rebooting Mobile and remounting SD card, Mobile took TWO MINUTES to recognise music on micro SD.

5. Notice about sdcad being empty and wanting to format will appear: confirm
6. put the data back on sdcard wait a 1min or 2min and viola.

Happy to know it worked, but let me tell you one more thing you need not format either internal or external SD card. Simply create the directory (as i mentioned in my previous thread) and put all your music files in into the folder. You can do the same for both internal and external SD card. Restart your phone and check. This is because the Walkman player has the default directory as SD/media/audio.
For all those who couldn't find it working am posting the procedure again:

The thing is it did not recognize my music when I simply put it in the folder path you mentioned. And more importantly the app used to detect the music from ALL directories like it should but it suddenly stopped doing so. Because what music player app has a set path? I've tried and put some file in random folders and it works again. I suspect it had to do with the windows formatting or something that corrupted my sd card when I created a second partition a while ago.

It happened to me again, so i was just exploring through the media directory in ext sd using es file explorer.
I found a file ".nomedia", so i deleted the file and rebooted. Guess what it worked. try this in yours guyz
Maybe it is becoz the player recognizes this file and stop scanning that particular directory, so delete that ".nomedia" file in Ext storage/media/ and reboot, finally start walkman and mx player.
Do hit Thanks if i helped in any way.
Check if there is .nomedia file present in your music folder, if it exists then delete it..
If it doesn't, clean cache of Walkman app, it should work fine

recently i got same problem, walkman can't detect music files in my sd card.
I have tried both methods above (create media\audio folder and delete .nomedia file) but no result.
I found that after picking music for alarms via es explorer, then the music file i had chosen appeared in walkman.
so guys, any idea how to make the walkman work normal again?

Also: try to copy just one file to the internal SD-card, search it up in the gallery, and then move it back to the external SD. Sometimes this triggers the system to read the files.
If you have tried everything mentioned here, and nothing works: make backup of the SD card and format it. Then move everything back. This should work, but it's the most time consuming so try the other things first
Hope I helped, and have a nice day

This is only a (most likely stupid) guess but just to rule that out: did you give storage permission to your music player?

yes i did. and new players are supposed to have this enabled by default. Anyway, I tried VLC player and I can browse directory using it and from there I can play my music. This is not a perfect solution, but it does help. I am planning to reinstall CM from recovery boot and do the wipe of cache, dalvik cache, data (not the internal storage data - as they mention while doing wipe). Lets hope it works.

I knew i was wrong Reinstalling sounds like a natural next step, if that does not work you might try it with a full wipe (ie. cache, dalvik cache, data and system) or even trying an AOSP rom in case that error is really somehow related to CM. Just to be sure, i would take backups on a pen drive via otg.
