media missing after JB! - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

NEED HELP!
I have been testing out several JB ROM available out there but I am having the same problem that the phone cannot scan all my media (no pics in gallery other then instant upload, music player got no song). But of coz I can see my files on my comp thru USB. I searched online and ppl suggested to clear cache on media and use rescan media but both not work.
edit: I go back to CM9 (ICS ROM) now and everything works fine...

clear the cache, going into settings/apps/all/gallery then music .../ and clear
then go to your sd card/android/data/ and clear the folders linked to the gallery (3dgallery blablabla) and the music player.
reboot your phone and dont touch for about 3 min to let it scan your sd card

thanks for suggestion but this doesn't help... i clear cache on gallery and music, delete com.android.3dgallery (no music folder in data) and reboot... wait... same thing

if your ROM Manager's version is v5.0.1.3, the issue cause by it. it has a bug that places .nomedia file in the wrong directory if directories are missing.
upgrade ROM Manager
del sdcard's .nomedia file that you don't need (especially root path's one)
reboot and the media service will scan you sdcard
after a few minute, you can see your media files again

Thank you so much. I completely wiped my phone and started from scratch and wasn't able to fix the problem. Now I read this and bingo, that was the problem. If I only I would have waited a day to wipe everything (I didn't back up because I figured that the error would have happened when I restored it too). But anyway thanks again!

Yeah I know that now, I just didn't know soon enough. lol Thanks though

I too have same problem. I updated ROM manager. Also deleted .nomedia file from root and few other directories.
But my music player is still unable to detect audio files. I even formatted sd card.. no luck.
I can only play individual audio files thru file explorer (astro)
Please suggest!

I resolved deleting .nomedia file in android/data folder

What media player? Can you see the files on the Card? Do the files open using File Explorer? Does the SD card work in you PC? Can you open you media player and then "File", "open" the file?
im using th WMP installed in the phone, all music files can be seen using file explorer, and can be only played one at a time when selicted through file explorer, its when i try to update library that it sees all the files says adding files and then justs stops

[GUIDE] What to do if Gallery does not show images!

Hi XDA peeps,
I have been flashing ROMs like crazy after I had my Sensation XE Unlocked and Rooted. And for some reason I actually do not know, I recognized that my Gallery does not show any photos or medias in the DCIM (SD Card). I have tried lots of things by my own but it did not came out well since I am still a noob. However, I have been reading through threads and posts regarding the issue and found out a number of methods I tried myself and worked.
Note that the followings are NOT STEPS of how you do it but alternates. Try another if one does not work.
1. install and run SDrescan
Try installing an app called SDrescan and run it. This method was suggested by a member in Android Enthusiasts.
2. Clear Gallery Data
Go to Settings>Apps>All>Gallery and 'Clear data'. This will not delete any of your images. Wait for several minutes or reboot if you would like, the images will reappear. If they do not try the next method.
3. delete .nomedia
It would be very much appreciated if someone could tell me what exactly is a '.nomedia'
Use ES File Explorer or Astro (or anything that gets you to your SD Card) and make sure you are set to 'Show Hidden Files'. Find a file titled .nomedia (yes, actually a dot in front) and delete the sucker. Well, you can also connect your phone to your PC and delete the guy.
Alternative: I am sorry I do not remember the person suggesting this but it was suggested that you put the .nomedia file into the DCIM folder and then reboot your device. (I tried this but it did not work for me)
Be patient. It may reappear after several minutes or some reboots. If you are sure this does not fix the thing try the last trick.
4. format your SD Card
I did not have to do this but it seems to work with bunch of people who flashed to Kang's CM10. This was suggested by stmaster (make sure you backup your SD Card before doing this method):
For anyone having issues with gallery and apollo not shwing pictures and files here are few steps that helped me get everything back to normal after numeros attempts:
- format the SD card
- Do not put any photos or files on the SD card (except ROms and recovery stuff if needed)
- Wipe data/ full format
- flash the ROM
- Install all your apps from the market - Do Not restore them with Titanium backup
- Once CM10 up and running power off the phone
- Now move your files to SD card (music, photos, videos)
- Switch on your phone and....
That was it for me phone reboot I got gallery and Apollo showing all files.
Hope this helps!
Cheers

Simplest thing, put it in the PC, copy all data and then format the card as FAT
Or then more details
- What's the ROM u using (at the moment)
- What's the app that does not see it?

well i used alllll the jell bean roms pretty much. and currently im using paranoid android. and my various music apps like the play music and th cm9/10 music app the gallery. nothing finds my sd card. could it be because its called sdcard1 and sd card1?? instead on internal or external.(the names when i use astro)
Connect the phone to your computer, make sure you have show hidden files, go to the folders with your stuff and delete .nomedia files.
so i did that and then i went into my gallerey and the two photos that were showing up is now gone
Now restart your device

Go into your App Settings ===> All Apps, select Media Storage and clear the app data.
Reboot and wait half and hour to see if Android re-indexes your storage and adds the photos into your gallery. If it hasn't try downloading a 'Rescan Media' app from Google Play Store to force it to rescan your storage.
If that doesn't work make sure there's no hidden files in your media directories by the name of '.nomedia'
brilliant thanks ill try that now thanks for the quick reply
Naa nothing worked could it be a kernel issue???
Found the problem it was the sd card itself all I did was back up everything off the sd card onto my computer and format the sd card then put everything back on to it and everything shows up how its supposed to YAY! thanks for the help and support

Also: try to copy just one file to the internal SD-card, search it up in the gallery, and then move it back to the external SD. Sometimes this triggers the system to read the files.
If you have tried everything mentioned here, and nothing works: make backup of the SD card and format it. Then move everything back. This should work, but it's the most time consuming so try the other things first
Hope I helped, and have a nice day
