Go into your App Settings ===> All Apps, select Media Storage and clear the app data.
Reboot and wait half and hour to see if Android re-indexes your storage and adds the photos into your gallery. If it hasn't try downloading a 'Rescan Media' app from Google Play Store to force it to rescan your storage.
If that doesn't work make sure there's no hidden files in your media directories by the name of '.nomedia'

brilliant thanks ill try that now thanks for the quick reply

Naa nothing worked could it be a kernel issue???

Found the problem it was the sd card itself all I did was back up everything off the sd card onto my computer and format the sd card then put everything back on to it and everything shows up how its supposed to YAY! thanks for the help and support

Battery widget A2SD

I formatted my card for ext2 and swap and am Using A2SD with Modaco 1.1 but the battery widget no longer works. How do I move it back to internal storage?
Also the Handcent widget won't work so I have to just use a shortcut, is this something taht is known to not work from sd? is it possible to use droid explorer to move these applications to internal memory also, I'm that that good with the console.
did you uninstall them then reinstall them after the rom reboot
ap2sd works when you have and ext2 on your sd card, it creates and envronmental variable to tell android that all the user installed apps are now on the sd card.
if you installed these apps before you formated your sd card to ext2 the data for these apps... executeables etc are still located in data/app instead of /system/sd/app
blah blah... long story short, uninstall the app and reinstall it via market. There might be an additional problem with the app uninstalling because android doesn't know where to look for the original app.
in that case try turning off your phone
removing the sd
restart the phone
uninstall the app agian (the link will be restored at that point)
turn off the phone
put the sd card back in
turn phone back on,
reinstall the app you want
It seems that with Modaco's rom the apps automatically moved to the system/sd/apps at least thats where they all show up when I look for them in the console. Long story short though everything started working after enough time and a restart and they are on the sd card now. It was just odd that they wouldn't for a while when everything else was working. It works now though.

might be the boot cache that's doing it then
yeah, im using handcent and experienced the same widget problem.
It happens when you update a program that is stored on the sdcard. There's another thread in here that talks about it in more details, but you basically have to remove the contents of the boot-cache folder and restart the phone for it to rebuild all the data.
Works perfectly after this...but everytime you update you will have to do this.
You could probably just move the handcent program to the phone (i.e. off the sdcard) to fix this issue. Follow the same methods that are described in the thread that talks about fixing google maps/google voice search....its the exact same principals:

media missing after JB!

NEED HELP!
I have been testing out several JB ROM available out there but I am having the same problem that the phone cannot scan all my media (no pics in gallery other then instant upload, music player got no song). But of coz I can see my files on my comp thru USB. I searched online and ppl suggested to clear cache on media and use rescan media but both not work.
edit: I go back to CM9 (ICS ROM) now and everything works fine...

clear the cache, going into settings/apps/all/gallery then music .../ and clear
then go to your sd card/android/data/ and clear the folders linked to the gallery (3dgallery blablabla) and the music player.
reboot your phone and dont touch for about 3 min to let it scan your sd card
thanks for suggestion but this doesn't help... i clear cache on gallery and music, delete com.android.3dgallery (no music folder in data) and reboot... wait... same thing

if your ROM Manager's version is v5.0.1.3, the issue cause by it. it has a bug that places .nomedia file in the wrong directory if directories are missing.
upgrade ROM Manager
del sdcard's .nomedia file that you don't need (especially root path's one)
reboot and the media service will scan you sdcard
after a few minute, you can see your media files again

Thank you so much. I completely wiped my phone and started from scratch and wasn't able to fix the problem. Now I read this and bingo, that was the problem. If I only I would have waited a day to wipe everything (I didn't back up because I figured that the error would have happened when I restored it too). But anyway thanks again!

Yeah I know that now, I just didn't know soon enough. lol Thanks though
I too have same problem. I updated ROM manager. Also deleted .nomedia file from root and few other directories.
But my music player is still unable to detect audio files. I even formatted sd card.. no luck.
I can only play individual audio files thru file explorer (astro)
Please suggest!
I resolved deleting .nomedia file in android/data folder

Simplest thing, put it in the PC, copy all data and then format the card as FAT
Or then more details
- What's the ROM u using (at the moment)
- What's the app that does not see it?

well i used alllll the jell bean roms pretty much. and currently im using paranoid android. and my various music apps like the play music and th cm9/10 music app the gallery. nothing finds my sd card. could it be because its called sdcard1 and sd card1?? instead on internal or external.(the names when i use astro)
Connect the phone to your computer, make sure you have show hidden files, go to the folders with your stuff and delete .nomedia files.
so i did that and then i went into my gallerey and the two photos that were showing up is now gone
Now restart your device

[Q] Clean Rom 5.0 and internal vs external SD card question

Hello all,
I have a VZW Galaxy S3 and am using Scott's CleanRom 5.0
I noticed yesterday that my internal card is 2gb from being full. My external SD is a 32gb and only has a few pictures and some music on it. So I have been wandering around the phone settings trying to figure out how to move my apps to the sd card and free up some space. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks in advance.

The only app that works is link2sd, on the market. But one draw back is you need to reconfig your external sdcard to do this. Reformat and create 2 partions on your sd card, first partition should be fat32, this where you keep your stuff (music/video/pics) and the second partition is for your apps. link2sd will move your app to the second partition on your sdcard and create a reference so your OS would know where to find it.
Note: If you already have stuff on your sdcard, you can keep them by resize the first partion then create the second partion. This way you still have your data intact.

I think you are better off moving data instead of the apps. You can get your music, images, and videos and free up a lot of space (Samsung camera can default to save on external card, 4.2 Canberra doesn't have that setting as far as i can tell). Advantage of this is that even if you brick / break / wipe your phone you can still retrieve your images and music. Pop the card in a new phone and everything is still there. More than that, have titanium backup on the external card and easily transfer non-system apps to the new phone.

Let me make sure I understand correctly. The app will guide you through the partitioning process or is this something I have to do independent from the app?
Thanks in advance.

First I guess I need to explain that I still use iTunes in conjunction with Tune Sync for my music so back up isn't an issue for music. My photos are uploaded to SmugMug so they too are backed up. It just seems that my data and apps are hogging the internal SD.
I have TB Pro installed but admittedly don't know much about it yet as I have converted from the Dark Side (IOS). So, how do I get it to do what I need? Perhaps there is a tutorial somewhere on YouTube I could look up.
EDIT: I found the setting in Camera storage but no option to change it. I just says "SD Card" I assume that is internal SD?

You have to do it manually. It's pretty simple, may take around 20min. Just download the "gparted" iso image, then use imgburn to burn this image on your cd, reboot with cd as default boot device instead of your harddisk, once you booted into gpart operating system, there will be a gui you could use to partion your sdcard, first resize your existing partion, then create a new one from the unallocate partion as ext4. Remember both partion have to be PRIMARY and set the ext4 to boot (once you create the ext4, just right click, select flag then select boot).

How to use link2sd.
click on the app you want to move then select "link to sd" button. Don't click on move app to sd, this is for the old GB rom only.

Thank you for all of this. I won't be able to do this until I return where I can burn the image. Looks fairly simple and I will give it a go when I return to work.
You could always plug your phone into your computer and drop and drag the files you want over to your external card.

You only can move video/music/pictures/backup files etc.. to your ext sdcard, but you cannot move your apps to external card. Your apps will stopped working. Link2sd allowed you to install all your downdoad apps to your SDcard (most of them, some apps required to stay internal, like widgets etc...)

I should have been more clear. What I suggested was just for backing up files in case the internal memory were to get wiped, example being if a new ROM was flashed with Odin, back to stock, etc. Thanks.

I did more research prior to moving them manually and found that what you just posted would have that affect. So, I still haven't done anything. My computer is old and not capable of burning a disc so I need to use a work computer but will have to do it after hours.
On a semi- related matter, since flashing CR 5.0 my settings for "Nearby Devices" is grayed out. I have been using this in conjunction with viewing photos on my TV. Any thoughts on why this might have happened? I re-flashed without success in gaining access.

I believe you need to install Allshare in order for this option to work.
Is there a way to download and install the Allshare app separately? I didn't choose it when doing the CR5.0 install. I looked on the playstore, but don't see it. I was going to re-install the ROM, but would rather just load the app if i could.
Only way I know is to flash ROM again. I don't use it. You don't have to wipe data just cache and dalvik.

Thanks for that information. I wonder if Allshare is available somewhere? Google is my friend...
This appears to be the Allshare app. It does everything the stock app did. I'll try it and report back.

Well, it was worth asking the question. I will be reflashing the ROM tonight. I just noticed a issue with what I believe would be the KindaCrap mods I installed. I removed the clock from the notification bar, and changed the battery to just a percentage, and the percentage was really slow while charging like it wasn't taking a charge. After rebooting I was near 60%, when it was showing me 20% before the reboot. I think a fresh install will be good.

[Q] Speedmod Kitkat 4.4.2 problem with sd card

Hi! I installed Speedmod Kitkat 4.4.2 and almost everything works great but the problem is that my device wont recognize my sd card. If I go to settings storage I can see my 16gb sd card there but If I open camera or gallery it will show no external memory. For gallery I used 3rd party app and it worked but for camera no. Help someone!
Go to settings, tap memory, check ''Use external SD as primary", reboot, then uncheck it and reboot
If doesen't work, try to reinstall the rom
I tried checking and unchecking then but didnt work, I have reinstalled rom about 4 times and still nothing. I cant use most of my fav apps and only 800mb memory. Any other solution plz.
