Simplest thing, put it in the PC, copy all data and then format the card as FAT
Or then more details
- What's the ROM u using (at the moment)
- What's the app that does not see it?

well i used alllll the jell bean roms pretty much. and currently im using paranoid android. and my various music apps like the play music and th cm9/10 music app the gallery. nothing finds my sd card. could it be because its called sdcard1 and sd card1?? instead on internal or external.(the names when i use astro)
Connect the phone to your computer, make sure you have show hidden files, go to the folders with your stuff and delete .nomedia files.
so i did that and then i went into my gallerey and the two photos that were showing up is now gone
Now restart your device

All those ROM u are using the sd card is no in emmc folder, you have to go out of there to / (nothing) then you will see sdcard folder.
Try to update the pass in your programs that you need to use.

Hey guys, I have looked all over and cant find an answer...
I am running the most current (4/23) version of the cm9 rom, but i cant get my infuse to "recognize/or/find" my external 32gb sd card... it finds my internal 16 gb no problem, i have also swapped it out for my 16gb card and its still a no-go...
what do i have to do / change to get it to show up? im needing to get to my music because my daily drives of 14+ hours are getting a bit tedious...
if you could in full detail tell me where the file to edit is and what needs to be changed it would be awesome!
thanks in advance and if this has been posted i apologize i must have missed seeing it...
also running 4/23 built and it reads mine no problems,, bad flash?
I'm thinking its possably something to do with a lib file as both clicking on external SD and internal SD both go to the internal SD... using astro file manager I can see both fine... but not when I use a stock app... *shrug* I also can't afford to try and reinstall it as I'm no where near home for the next 5 days either and if I screw up I'm without a phone...

you can try flashing it over and see if that helps, this time use fix permission and it could also be a bad download, what i would do is re-download, go back to phone stock , and while you're there factory reset the phone( back up all your other data ) , flash kernels to get red cmw ( entropy DD ) and then flash latest cm9
I recently installed a 64gb. I had to go back to stock to get it recognized. Then when I reinstalled CM9, I found it under /mnt/emmc.

Go to the themes and apps forum - See Axiomkids mods and tweaks for this build. Go to number 5 in the OP. Although it says it won't recognize the external sd it does for my phone . I only have an 8 gb card, don't know if that makes a difference. Hope this helps. Edit- Here's the link. I used the1.1.4 version. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389375
Thanks... phone can find it now... but music and video apps still don't "see" it..
Is there a "string" (?) command i can use in the terminal console to change where its looking...
seems to be finding the "external SD" folder but not the actual card...
Seems very odd to me cause both when i flashed back, googles' stock apps found it, and as well as the cm 7.2.0 release found the external sd card in the right spot.
Now flashing cm 9.0 (05/02/12) it finds the external sd folder on the internal sd, but still doesn't find the external sd...

thanks for that, i have just gone completely stock, then rooted, flashed cm7, now back to cm 9, and still nothing. yet cm7 and stock can find all the music n videos on my external sd fine with the native built-in music/video apps... once i install cm9 they don't "see" it or recognize it... tho when i go thru astro file manager i can see it just fine... *shrug*
Google Play Music did not find my songs despite following their instructions. Winamp & the music player did.
So did Album Art Grabber.

Did a clean install and wiped twice everything I could via cwm recovery... seems to be fine now - took me 3 hours to get back to a working stock... think my phone doesn't like the stock now after being on cm lol... anyways its working fine now... thanks to you guys on all your input... found it was a bad micro sd format when I formatted it (micro sd) from cm recovery the first time I installed cm9 on entropys first build... :banghead: shoulda thought of that earlier...

Hello all,
I have a VZW Galaxy S3 and am using Scott's CleanRom 5.0
I noticed yesterday that my internal card is 2gb from being full. My external SD is a 32gb and only has a few pictures and some music on it. So I have been wandering around the phone settings trying to figure out how to move my apps to the sd card and free up some space. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks in advance.

The only app that works is link2sd, on the market. But one draw back is you need to reconfig your external sdcard to do this. Reformat and create 2 partions on your sd card, first partition should be fat32, this where you keep your stuff (music/video/pics) and the second partition is for your apps. link2sd will move your app to the second partition on your sdcard and create a reference so your OS would know where to find it.
Note: If you already have stuff on your sdcard, you can keep them by resize the first partion then create the second partion. This way you still have your data intact.

I think you are better off moving data instead of the apps. You can get your music, images, and videos and free up a lot of space (Samsung camera can default to save on external card, 4.2 Canberra doesn't have that setting as far as i can tell). Advantage of this is that even if you brick / break / wipe your phone you can still retrieve your images and music. Pop the card in a new phone and everything is still there. More than that, have titanium backup on the external card and easily transfer non-system apps to the new phone.

Let me make sure I understand correctly. The app will guide you through the partitioning process or is this something I have to do independent from the app?
Thanks in advance.

First I guess I need to explain that I still use iTunes in conjunction with Tune Sync for my music so back up isn't an issue for music. My photos are uploaded to SmugMug so they too are backed up. It just seems that my data and apps are hogging the internal SD.
I have TB Pro installed but admittedly don't know much about it yet as I have converted from the Dark Side (IOS). So, how do I get it to do what I need? Perhaps there is a tutorial somewhere on YouTube I could look up.
EDIT: I found the setting in Camera storage but no option to change it. I just says "SD Card" I assume that is internal SD?

You have to do it manually. It's pretty simple, may take around 20min. Just download the "gparted" iso image, then use imgburn to burn this image on your cd, reboot with cd as default boot device instead of your harddisk, once you booted into gpart operating system, there will be a gui you could use to partion your sdcard, first resize your existing partion, then create a new one from the unallocate partion as ext4. Remember both partion have to be PRIMARY and set the ext4 to boot (once you create the ext4, just right click, select flag then select boot).

How to use link2sd.
click on the app you want to move then select "link to sd" button. Don't click on move app to sd, this is for the old GB rom only.

Thank you for all of this. I won't be able to do this until I return where I can burn the image. Looks fairly simple and I will give it a go when I return to work.
You could always plug your phone into your computer and drop and drag the files you want over to your external card.

You only can move video/music/pictures/backup files etc.. to your ext sdcard, but you cannot move your apps to external card. Your apps will stopped working. Link2sd allowed you to install all your downdoad apps to your SDcard (most of them, some apps required to stay internal, like widgets etc...)

I should have been more clear. What I suggested was just for backing up files in case the internal memory were to get wiped, example being if a new ROM was flashed with Odin, back to stock, etc. Thanks.

I did more research prior to moving them manually and found that what you just posted would have that affect. So, I still haven't done anything. My computer is old and not capable of burning a disc so I need to use a work computer but will have to do it after hours.
On a semi- related matter, since flashing CR 5.0 my settings for "Nearby Devices" is grayed out. I have been using this in conjunction with viewing photos on my TV. Any thoughts on why this might have happened? I re-flashed without success in gaining access.

I believe you need to install Allshare in order for this option to work.
Is there a way to download and install the Allshare app separately? I didn't choose it when doing the CR5.0 install. I looked on the playstore, but don't see it. I was going to re-install the ROM, but would rather just load the app if i could.
Only way I know is to flash ROM again. I don't use it. You don't have to wipe data just cache and dalvik.

Thanks for that information. I wonder if Allshare is available somewhere? Google is my friend...
This appears to be the Allshare app. It does everything the stock app did. I'll try it and report back.

Well, it was worth asking the question. I will be reflashing the ROM tonight. I just noticed a issue with what I believe would be the KindaCrap mods I installed. I removed the clock from the notification bar, and changed the battery to just a percentage, and the percentage was really slow while charging like it wasn't taking a charge. After rebooting I was near 60%, when it was showing me 20% before the reboot. I think a fresh install will be good.

So correct me if Im wrong you go to your music app and you dont see your tracks?
What music player do you use? I use playerpro myself and it is pretty leet. There are options to re scan for media (for adding stuff MTP) and manual scans for media. What media players do this to you? Also, if I am correct you are the one that has SD card issues with some JB roms right? What file system are you using for the SD card? Are you using MTP or Mass storage mode for USB transfers? Have you tried a new SD card? What is your main file format not showing up on your playlist, mp3 or m4b/a, etc. Is there a specific reason you need to do the sd swap like a game or certain app?
I know its a lot of questions but I'm trying to narrow it down a bit. I think it might be your SD card. Can you grab an old one somewhere, reformat it inside android, then do the SD swap and see if your music works then? Might be best to do a clean flash while you are at it. You could also try and download playerpro or the vlc beta and see if it sees it. I personally don't even install the stock music player anymore.
If you need to fix permissions you can do it under CWM/advanced. Let me know how it works out for you, I know how it feels to have that one little itch keeping you from enjoying the hell outta this phone.

well to answer your questions as they were asked 1 Apollo / 2 Paranoid Android ( newest version ) EXT4 / /3 Both ( MTP and MASS ) / 4 this SD card is practically brand new ive reformatted it one time under the windows reformat back into EXT4 with DEFAULT settings and allocation / 5 MP3 and M4A not showing for codec's of music / 6 games and apps and music i love this phone gonna prolly pick up a galaxy S2 / S3 ( the S3 has quad core S4 chip i believe so much much faster ) ive fixed permissions ive re installed busybox to 1.20.2 have done clean flash and re install have downloaded playerpro ( the 4.1.2 had worked flawlessly on the way down to CA from KS on the greyhound so it was working great then and now it's not wanting to c anything for music specifically ) ( i had reformatted and installed 4.1.2 PA about 2 days ago and before the swap it had seen my EXTERNAL MICRO SDHC as EXTERNAL ( NO SWAPPING at the point of reinstall ) but i had swapped it and then nothing so that's were im stuck
I hate Apollo personally. I listen to a lot of audio books and its hard to find a player that never forgets where you pause. It doesnt sound like its your player though... I think it might be your sdcard. I know it works on other roms, but can you try your old card or a different one? Mine cut out like that a few times before I lost everything but only a few times. Also, try to go to CM file explorer and open a folder while the music player is open to see if that jump starts it.
I wasn't aware there was a PA 4.2.1
None the less, put your sdcard in your computer and copy everything off of it
Put sdcard back in phone and got to settings/storage/erase sdcard
reboot phone
plug phone into computer and mount usb storage
copy all your stuff back to the sdcard
reboot to recovery
delete cache and dalvik
fix perms
reboot
open apollo
enjoy your tunes
I get a fc sometimes when switching tracks. I quit using Apollo and use googles app.when in the app you should see your music. As thomas is telling you, I would try what he said, because I've always been able to see my music.

Just format "Fat" not 16 or 32 or NTFS or [email protected] or 4 (format it with windows
You know I have to ask... what format is your music? I remember that you couldn't see your music on 4.1.2 but could on stock and tweaked. Is it because your files are WMA? ...I just came to this realization that not only will JB ROMs not play WMA, they won't even show up in any music player. Just curious.

Go into your App Settings ===> All Apps, select Media Storage and clear the app data.
Reboot and wait half and hour to see if Android re-indexes your storage and adds the photos into your gallery. If it hasn't try downloading a 'Rescan Media' app from Google Play Store to force it to rescan your storage.
If that doesn't work make sure there's no hidden files in your media directories by the name of '.nomedia'
brilliant thanks ill try that now thanks for the quick reply
Naa nothing worked could it be a kernel issue???
Found the problem it was the sd card itself all I did was back up everything off the sd card onto my computer and format the sd card then put everything back on to it and everything shows up how its supposed to YAY! thanks for the help and support

Sorry for being off topic, i can confirm it works on my galaxy s3 and would recommend to other s3 users to use it, but i think it is not necessary for our device
sense when you install games, the data will automatically be save into sdcard and there's no need for that folder to be mounted. and sorry if i mention s3 in our SGS4G
Should work similar to using Titanium to put your internet data for an app on the sd-ext storage. Probably works exactly the same way, except that you have to figure it out yourself instead of having it automated.
Works great for TB... on apps I don't use often with sloppy internet/external storage, it's nice to be able to not worry about 80 megs of my internal storage getting sucked away just because of a irregular convenience app.
