Tap & Pay in Australia - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I went to Woolworths today to test out Tap & Pay. I went up and tapped my phone, just as I would my Visa card, and it failed. No failure notification, the PayWave logo just disappeared from the terminal and it told me to swipe or insert. My Visa card was setup on my Google Wallet successfully. Has anyone else had issues with Tap & Pay in Australia, or worldwide?

Yeah I tried at Coles. Not only did it not work with Google wallet, it froze my Westpac account because they thought I was making an international transaction.

I'm not sure if this works with the Nexus 5, but the Westpac app in the Play store supports their own flavour of Tap & Pay. It's worth a try I guess.
I'm with Suncorp though and I can't see a solution on the horizon any time soon.

Westpac comes up in the "Tap & Pay" section of settings and I can put the widget on my homescreen, but this is as far as I get.

Nexus 5 Google Wallet Australia

Hi,
This is my first post and I'd like to try and see if this might be able to help someone else in the same position as I am. I really want to use the Google Wallet app in Australia on my new Nexus 5. I've managed to get the app to work, and it shows a message saying "This is not available in your country. Change your home address if you've moved." I've managed to change my account to a Google one with no home address attached, and it decided to play nice and let me through using this method. I'm going to set it up with a new Google account that I can just bin if it doesn't work, and see how it goes on Tuesday, when I go out next. Does anyone know if this is doomed to fail or if I should try it?
To activate the Wallet app (I'm not sure if it was already when the phone was fresh out of the box) I found an APK on the net somewhere (I would advise not doing this, I was lucky to find a good version) and installed it as an update to Wallet. I then was able to choose an account when activating it. This was all I did, and it doesn't care that I am in Australia. I'll tell you guys how it goes.
EDIT: Sorry, I put this in the incorrect section. May someone move it for me? I can't find how to delete my post.
roadblock
So I just tried to add my MasterCard to Wallet. Adding through the app worked, but when I went and properly added it with my Australian address (had to try) Wallet now considers it an "invalid card", which is really not surprising. Looks like I've hit a dead end until I can pick up a prepaid Visa (the Mastercard is a prepaid one and is about to expire) from Australia Post.
You can also add Play Store gift cards to your online Wallet account, and it should show up as available funds in your wallet app for Tap & Pay. I don't think they sell the physical cards outside of the U.S., but I found this:
http://www.offgamers.com/buy/googleplaygiftcard.html
Wallet Balance
Thanks for that, but do you know of an actual link to put the card code into? I looked into it and Google seemed to say that Play Store balance wasn't able to be used as Wallet balance, but I'd just like some clarification on that.
EDIT: Oh, also, we can get cards here too, just not sure if they'll work with Wallet as my account is classed as a US one.
Declined
Well I've hit a bit of a dead end for now. I got my prepaid Visa from the post office today, put the details into Wallet and it even accepted it. However, when I tested it in a local shop Wallet decided to decline it with an error message of "International transactions are not yet supported." Unless anyone here knows how to bypass that through some way, I guess it just won't work until it officially comes to Australia.

Anyone having the same problem as me?
I originally signed up for All Access using a US credit card.
Now that it's available in Canada, I can't switch.
My Google Wallet seems tied to the US.
I was able to change my home address, add and verify a Canadian credit card, set it as default.
But when I try to re-activate All Access, it won't recognize it, and the currency still shows up as USD.
Isn't there a way to change this ?

I will contact them. I'd rather have my Wallet account migrated (they can switch currency, but manually).
I use one Google account for everything; including Play Store, Android, Gmail, Google+, Photos, YouTube, etc. so creating a new account just to get music is out of the question.

any luck for you?
I think I'm in same boat as you. But I never signed up for All Access before. I simply enabled Google Music while I was in USA and kept using it for uploading music and claim free music.
Now I'm trying to sign up and it just give me USD price, however if I want to buy any music, it works fine as my default cc is selected and Buy button is blue. While signing up for All Access shows no supported method of payment and Buy button is grayed out.
I'll give support call as well.
For a limited time, you can get a 60 day free trial by clicking here: http://g.co/PlayMusicCA
I got this link from Google Play's official Google+ page. (See here: https://plus.google.com/+GooglePlay/posts/FQPxSoP5kE4)
None the less I'm excited that Google Play Music is finally available in Canada. Now all we need are TV Shows and GPE devices!

No resolution yet, but apparently, there are thousands of users with this problem (method of payment is greyed out when attempting to sign up for All Access, and Google Wallet thinks we're trying to buy a US subscription). I got the issue escalated to technical/engineering, and I hear reports of users with the same response. They will manually change our Google Wallet account to CAD currency.
There seems to be another bug with people who have a Google Play balance in USD (from an old Nexus purchase in the US, or a US gift card). Those users can't be switched. But Google is working on a fix to allow them to convert their balance in another currency, and therefore, be able to switch subscriptions to their home country.

So I called em too. Got same response, gonna put my name in list of people who have this problem.
So today I was finally able to subscribe to All Access. 60 days free promo worked as well.
I'm also enjoying 60 days free trails, its just marvelous...
Just an update for anyone following this :
As of June 11th, Google has issued a fix that prevented users from changing their home address in Wallet if they had a Google Play balance..
We're pushing a fix for one of the issues that was preventing users from updating their Wallet home address. Starting today, having a Google Play balance should no longer prevent you from changing your Google Wallet home address.

I was able to re-subscribe to Google Music All-Access on the Canadian side, and also got the promo price of $7.99, which is good until June 30th.

Google Wallet outside US - Tap to Pay working (no root required)

Ok, you've got Moto X with NFC but you'd like to use that for something. Motorola Skip would be a nice option if you can get one from US for 10-15$.
Still not enough? Let's get Google Wallet installed:
1. download Google Wallet 2.0-R163-v18-RELEASE APK (http://www.apk4fun.com/apk/7185/ or alternatives)
2. install Google Wallet and open it; it will tell you to move to US, ignore it but check out change country link in that pop-up message
3. temporary change home address to City: Clearwater, State: FL (Florida), Post code: 33760, street/name can stay the same
4. clear data for Google Wallet app, uninstall it and reinstall it from the same APK
5. set up VPN in phone settings: VPN Type: PPTP / VPN Server Hostname: bestvpnusa.com / VPN Username: bestvpnusa.com / VPN Password: 1183 (http://www.bestvpnusa.com/) or search for something safer like pureVPN (trial account: 2.5$). Connect to it.
6. reopen Google Wallet. Behold the magic: enter a new pin and enjoy
7. deactivate VPN connection, change back home address, setup a credit card in Google Play or Google Wallet PC interface if you don't have one already
8. open up Google Wallet, it should load without problems. Activate Tap to Pay option from My Wallet window, activate Orders Tracking if you like, just don't get too excited by Send Money menu link because it requires to verify you US identity (which you don't really have, remember?)
9. look like a total geek when using pay pass terminals in the real world. Some recent users reported that international transactions are declined, but you won't know for sure until you try it.
Setup worked for me in Europe, let other know if it works for you too.
Works, kinda

I've had Google Wallet installed I'm in Canada. I mostly use it to store loyalty cards. Don't know how I got it set up but I never had to go through all that. It even updated through the play store! I do have my primary google address set to a US address though so I guess that's why.
I can't get a Canadian card to work but I set up a US credit card in wallet and it worked. Tap and Pay also works. Well sort of. You are able to get the credit card terminal (in Canada) to recognize the card but the payment will be declined instantly, probably because the virtual google card that all purchases go through does not work outside of the US. (See https://support.google.com/wallet/answer/3222630?hl=en.) Anyways, I know that its not the actual plastic US credit cards problem because using the actual card allows the payment to go through (with a exchange fee of course).
So, basically you have a app that only keeps track of your loyalty cards and orders. Not bad but not great either.
I would love to be proven wrong though, if anyone has successfully used wallet to tap to pay outside of US AFTER google got rid of the prepaid card, please do share. (In the beginning Google had a prepaid card set up that you could deposit funds into and it worked everywhere, but they got rid of it)
After 2 days Wallet stopped working complaining again about country. This useless thread can be deleted.

[Conflict] Mobile NFC pay - Visa payWave v.s. Unionpay QuickPass

Hi All,
I upgrade the phone from Xperia Z (4.4.2, 1st screenshot) to Z3 (4.4.4, 2nd screenshot), and I'm surprised to find Google Wallet in Z3 with "Visa payWave" now. However since I'm existing China Unionpay "QuickPass" (another NFC pay system, like Visa payWAVE and Master PayPass ) User, it brings problem/conflict when I use NFC pay:
*China Unionpay goes to Co-work between China telecom operators and specific China Bank (Unionpay based), those Banks authorize such telecom operators to issue a specific "NFC-USIM" card (micro-sim) in Android mobile, plus Bank's app, then you could use QuickPass NFC pay as long as you activate NFC function in your mobile;
*Google Wallet, you must be well known of it, completely goes to Mobile's NFC function itself, and nothing to do with Telecom operator/network/SIM card.
Now it's the problem/conflict, before when I use Z, there is no "payWave" in Google Wallet, when I triggered NFC, only Unionpay QuickPass working with POS. But now, when I trigger NFC, and goes to POS, both Visa payWave (in Google Wallet) and Unionpay QuickPass (in NFC-USIM/Bank App) working, the result seems Visa payWave overwrites (or higher priority in NFC pay choose) and QuickPass can never work any more.
So it seems the solution must be I go to uninstall Google Wallet, to have Unionpay QuickPass single working? I really hope there be some way/method we could choose what payment method we go to every time when we triggered NFC pay.... Thanks!

I am having the same issue in Japan. The Felicia payment system doesn't show up in Tap to Pay under Xperia settings, so you can't choose which one to use. If you install Google Wallet it just takes over for NFC actions. Hopefully there's some kind of workaround for this.

Dear, did you try uninstall Google Wallet? I tried but still CAN'T have Unionpay Quickpass work... it seems Z3 for whatever reason just can't read the encrypt info in NFC-USIM card.

Samsung Pay for Gear now works in Canada (no CSC change or mods required)

Thought I'd share a bit of good news. The latest upgrade of Gear app that changed it to Galaxy Wear app now offers fully functional Samsung Pay for Gear for Canadian consumers. To set it up, do the following:
Upgrade your "Gear App" to the new "Galaxy Wearable" app from the Play Store.
Go to APKMirror or a similar site and download, then install the latest version of the "Samsung Pay for Gear" app (the latest version on APKMirror as of this post is 1.6.8906). Note that the app is currently not available from the Play Store or Galaxy App store, at least not on a non-Samsung phone (I am using the Essential PH-1 with my Gear S3 Classic).
Once installed, launch the app, allow all permissions and you will be prompted to update your "Samsung Pay for Gear" app.
Complete the update as prompted, then re-launch the app to complete the setup.
Accept the terms, follow the prompts to add your supported Canadian credit cards, and complete the required verification.
Once complete, test that it is working correctly by pressing and holding your back button on the Gear S3 watch from any screen.
Enjoy Samsung Pay for Gear in Canada!
Note that to make this work your card has to be supported by Samsung Pay (or really, your bank for Samsung Pay) and you have to have NFC enabled on your Gear S3.
I have the S3 Classic. It automatically did the update for me. One question though....Is it correct that the Samsung pay for wearable devices, right now in Canada, only allow credit cards???? I tried to add my debit card but it couldn't VERIFY which is weird because I have my debit card on my phone (Note 8). Is there an issue with the app or will it eventually allow debit cards over time? I also tried to add my credit card but its not supported yet, go figure .

This is correct. Gear Pay only supports credit cards for now. Considering that Samsung hasn't even officially announced Gear Pay in Canada I have no clue when we can expect to see debit card support. The issue with debit vs. credit and the inconsistent implementation by Samsung and our dear banks always annoyed the crap out of me so I feel your pain.
Hi I have tried installing the Gear Plug-in for Samsung Pay but right after I allow all the permissions i get the message "Can't open Samsung Pay Your watch may not be supported". Any idea how I can get past this?
I am facing the same issue. even after installing the apk manually, when i try open it says-"Your watch may not be supported"
