Possible to activate the $30 T-Mobile Walmart plan on Chromebook? - General Questions and Answers

I am trying to find the cheapest, high-speed data plan for my chromebook which I bring around pretty often. I think that the t-mobile $30 plan is the best deal. Anyone know how to activate it on a hp chromebook device?

What phones qualify for $10 T-Mobile Unlimited Web? or Carrier Alternatives?

I just got some crap from T-Mobile about how I cannot use a HD2 or a Nexus one with T-Mobile without upgrading my plan from the $9.99 unlimited to the $29.99 unlimited even though I bought the phone off contract. It's a T-Mobile branded US version so I'm wondering what kind of guidelines they have? The rep said that all smartphones have to be upgraded to $29.99 but I've been using my iPhone on the $6.99 T-Zones and just recently upgraded to $9.99 because T-Mobile "no longer offers it to iPhones", says the customer support. My sister runs the Nokia Neuron and I've tried it with a Touch Diamond and both iPhone 2G and 3G and those are smartphones right? I believe the Shadow and Dash use the same data plan?
Basically, I'm trying to figure out what kind of smartphone I can use? And how do they know what phone I'm using?
What alternatives do I have for a cheap unlimited data plan from a different carrier? MetroPCS and Boost seems awesome for offering a $50 unlimited voice, text, and web, but they're only CDMA.
it seems that if you are using a tmobile branded phone, then they'll tag you if you are not using the right data plan. for unbranded smartphones, they seem not to look too deeply into what kindof phone you are using, thus many people use their unbranded smartphone with the $10 data plan. the nuron is not considered a smartphone.

No, that's not how it works at T-Mobile.
If you want to use your HD2 on the $10 web plan you must change your apn to internet2.voicestream.com
Also, there is a new company that recently came out (a la MetroPCS/Boost) called SIMple Mobile (http://www.mysimplemobile.com/), which is a no-contract, unlimited kind of deal but GSM. The poster above me is right though. If your internet is set up to go via web2go, they will charge you the $29.99.

They are pretty cheap, but I believe that for $60 you can just go with T-Mobile and get 500 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited data and be able to use any of the T-Mobile smartphones. Or, do as I did and signup for the $39.99 plan with Unlimited Texting + 500 minutes then for $10 add unlimited web separately for a total of $49.99/month. I'm using a Touch Pro2 with this plan without any problems.
With simple mobile can you use any unlocked GSM phone?
i neglected this thread for a while and i just found it. anyway, i did try internet2.voicestream.com but it was blocked (it just wouldnt connect to the internet, opera shows "page not found" type of thing). same thing with wap.voicestream.com. it wasn't running a stock rom either.
the folks at tmobile are full of it,I have an HD2 and have the 15.00 200meg data plan, they just promote the larger plan and you have to ask for something diff

[Q] $5.99 T-zones hack on Nexus S?

This is one of the best things about my Nexus One. I remember hearing that the T-zones hack wouldn't work on the G2 because it is a branded T-mobile phone.
Any speculation, or confirmation if the $5.99 t-zones hack will allow web access on the Nexus S, like it does for the Nexus One?
I dont think the phone will be carried by T-Mobile, only offered through T-Mobile like the Nexus One was, so I believe it will still work, but that's just reasoning based on speculation.

That was my guess as well.
I wonder if best buy will make you upgrade your Tmobile plan, or let you simply extend your contract for 2 years.
I'd hate to lose the 5.99 tzones web access and be forced into a more expensive data plan.
It will only by offered by the bestbuy's that carry Tmobile phones.... I know a few (next to me) that only have Sprint & Verizon and they said they won't offer the phone but any bestbuy that carries TMO phones will.
As for upgrades it will require to up to a 2 year contract and you will then incur their $30 data package or their standard smartphone data plan.
That's the simple reason I go with the retail version rather than the upgrade as I run the $10 data plan... by going upgrade - $20 x 24 = $480 a raw deal IMO

Yeah, $5.99 tzones, or $10 data plan is worth it. I'd rather pay full retail than lose that.
This is what will determine this as a purchase for me.
I like paying 10/month for data rather than 30 which is ridiculous.
10/month = 120/year
30/month = 360/year

That isn't true. See excerpt from the Best Buy Mobile site:
Will my local Best Buy be carrying the Nexus S? I talked to the staff there and they didn’t know.
Sorry for the confusion. We are still in the process of getting all of our stores prepared for launch. The Nexus S will be available on launch date in both locked and unlocked versions at all Best Buy stores, Best Buy Mobile stand-alone locations and online.
Will Best Buy Mobile stores that don't usually sell T-Mobile carry the Nexus S, since it's an unlocked device?
Yes. There will be inventory in all stores, as well as available for purchase online as a T-Mobile device and shipped to home.

From Best Buy's FAQ:
Can I buy the Nexus S at a T-Mobile store?
No, T-Mobile stores will not be carrying the Nexus S at launch. Best Buy stores, Best Buy Mobile stand-alone stores and bestbuy.com and are currently the only points of distribution.

ya i misread it was late and i was tired
but even though the FAQ page says they will sell it at stores that dont sell tmobile plans i am being told that it will not be sold
All best buy stores in the LA area do not sell Tmobile. id have to make a 2 hour trip to get one if that is the case
So far I've been able to access the internet with my 5.99 t-zones plan on the nexus s, the same way I was able to on the nexus one.
ymmv
Is the 5.99 T-zone just edge data?
What about the $10 data plan?

[Q] Cheapest android smartphone plan? (unlim texting at least)

The cheapest plan that has the the best balance of data (5 GB a month data allowance), unlimited texting, and calling (100 monthly minutes) is T mobiles plan for $30 a month I know it's $5 more a month then what your looking for but if your willing to spend the extra $5 a month it's worth it. The other plan I could find for $25 a month is AT&T's prepaid smartphone plan with unlimited text messaging, 250 minutes of nationwide calling, but no data allowance. The T-mobile is a bring your own device type of plan while the prepaid ATT plan I'm not 100% sure about whether you can bring your own device or not.
Good Luck
good luck in your search and be sure to post and let us know whats the best deal you find

USB-Tethering w/Verizon

Hey guys,
Trying to figure out which phones would be able to USB-Tether with verizon. On an older plan where you have to pay $30 for hotspot usage. Are there any phones you can buy directly from verizon that would work? I just need my options and if not what can I do. Thank you!
