Hello,
I bought my nexus s today, and i noticed that Facebook wouldn't sync to my phone! it starts by not asking whether or not to sync contacts when i install the Facebook app and continues by not responding to 'ass account' in 'accounts & syncs' in settings.
I really like the option that i can see my fav's pictures.
can i solve this? any suggestions?
but all and all amazing phone, specially after coming from here, after two years
Google removed this option on Nexus S...
thanks, i guess it's like Google want that i will root this phone..
Please don't cross post in multiple forums.

or use CM7.. unsure why people wouldn't want to use it. CM7 enables Facebook syncing again.
Don't even say you don't want to use it because its "unstable" its stable if you know how to properly set it up.

blasphemy much? especially when its a "Developer Phone" and its pretty much encouraging you to hack it. but everybody has their taste
and no. i dont believe anybody wants to run their phone stock/unrooted.. especially when we're on XDA, this forum is primarily here to hack your phone and to maximize the most out of your ~$530-$580 purchase ($199 with contract). If people wanted to leave it the way it is, they would be on other forums but they found XDA, with the majority of the users here are here to mod their phones. I would find it reasonable that they have a interest in doing this.
People primarily leave their phone stock on the forum because they're afraid that they're going to void the warranty / whatever. I'm just pointing out that it is a very hard phone to brick and they should use custom ROMs because they really do improve the Android experience.

I just really find it funny when people's answers is always "root it", "use cm7", "adb this", etc..etc.. (Personally I do run CM7 Nightlies, but get tired of these 'replies'). Not everyone wants to root their phone, not everyone wants to run a custom ROM. Some people just want to run their phones stock, even if it is a "developer phone" (which is an argument in itself). It's as bad as people saying "you have a 'developer phone'" course their's always bugs in it when someone points out a simple bug.

Just like what I editted my post previously in regards about XDA & users. XDA is primarily a forum for getting the most of your phone. So yeah, I will continue assuming that they want to get the most out of their phone. This forum isn't for unrooted/unmodded areas. Thats what Android Central is for (no disrespect to Android Central, I think its a great website but they are more friendly towards stock roms).
And no it has nothing to do with "developer phone," anything that Google makes is considered a beta. Especially when you get a product from them in its early stages. Early adopters encounters bugs, its apart of Google.
We all pay a price for being early adopters, it could be a success or fail. No one knows.
Android isn't iOS where everybody will run on Stock. Android is a versatile mobile OS, we have many options. If we don't like something that Google or a manufacturer did.. we're able to change it. So if we dont like Google's decision on Facebook Sync we can take it into our own hands. The OP wanted sync with FaceBook, I simply gave him a solution to fix it by flashing a custom ROM such as CM7. Am I coercing him to root / flash? No. the decision is up to him. But if he did try it out, I'm certain that he will enjoy it.
Edit: After reading this thread once again:

So your reference about him not rooting is false. Rooting is a gateway towards flashing custom ROMs. And stop trying to be a moderator by telling him to stop posting in multiple forums.

but the real interessting thing is:
how to get any rom to sync with facebook????
some roms have "fixed" that so ho to get this "fix"???

if the ROMs are based off CM7 then it can sync. Unsure if Master changed it for Axura or not. But I believe at this point, it'd be CM7 and MIUI with FB Sync (uncertain about MIUI but it is based off CM7)
Edit: GBCollab is Cm7 too
hmm ... but interessting thing is:
why is it working with CM7? what did they make that it is working?
i think they didnt call the big abracadabra and then it was working ...
so why is it working in CM7 and is it possible to get this "what ever it is" in to a other rom??

Because Android is AOSP? And CM7 is compiled from AOSP with tweaks and additions. All they have to do is find the line that disables the sync and remove it or modify it.
I could imagine that if u use GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk or GooglePartnerSetup.apk from stock 2.3.2 Rom it may work again, since 2.3.3 is the first rom that has fb sync disabled. But i didnt try it out and im on cm7 anyhow, i just think it may be worth a try.

it works in cyanogen because he turned it back on. it is open source software, so you can do whatever you want to it. google removed this feature, but cyanogen added it back. pretty simple, and that is why it is always worth using a custom ROM over stock ROM. no reason to never root.
good thing .. finaly i try to get somthing more ...
is there anyone who can tell us what we have to change that we all can turn it on again?

no. just flash CM7. if you want it THAT badly, go get the source of CM7 and go look at it.. and compile your own AOSP with that line of code to re-enable but its way too much work. just flash CM7
I though fb sync still worked on CM7 as he uses the android open source version of 2.3 and allot of the other roms out there use the nexus s release of 2.3 as their base?

Hey guys
So I just got my Nexus S not too while ago from mobilicity.
I heard the benefits of rooting it.
I have been reading around and is pretty confused.. there seems to be quit a bit of different versions floatinga round
I am on WCDMA network and want to root it into the new custom rom
Can someone point me to the right direction?
what is the best newbie friendly guide and rom right now?
man I never had trouble figuring out stuff like this but... dam I am really confused about rooting.
You mentioned WCDMA, so I'm assuming that you have a Sprint Nexus S 4G. If that is the case, head on over to the "Nexus S 4G Android Development" forum.
That is the part I am confused about
I have the Nexus s 9020T apparently

Also what about the one called cyanogen and another one that starts with M something
I ALWAYS hear about these two when people talk about custom ROMs
Pretty much every ROM you will see is based off CM7, which stands for CyanogenMod. It's a team that tweaks the custom ROMs enabling a lot more features in the phone that Google left out for the public.
The 'M', is probably MIUI? MIUI brings a graphical overhaul to the entire Android UI. Some people say that it makes it look a lot like the iPhone, which it kind of does. Can be fun to try if you get sick of the stock Android look and feel.
It's up to you to find the one you feel best with, almost all the last generation ROMs for Gingerbread are fast, stable and bring good battery life.
And yes, you'll still be able to use all those apps, and more.

MIUI is based on CyanogdenMod with some of their own features. The theming is pretty extensive and you can custimize nearly every aspect of it.
They are also releasing their Ice Cream Sandwhich ROM on friday which is awesome
all i can suggest is read, read and do more reading of each ROMs postings. Each ROM has their issues.... wether it be GPS, Wifi, No 4G connection or maybe just certain apps not working on it... so
Choose your ROM carefully depending on your needs.
Ask the specific question to the forum of whatever ROM your using since the developers or users can answer them faster or easier.
I would use the one I suggested first or maybe use on that your buddy is using so you can have someone to ask or call without waiting for someone on these forums.
Good luck
cheers
thanks for all the help guys
going to do it tonight after I get back
looking forward to it
Yea MIUI was the other one lol

Hello, I am typing this thread to ask the XDA community the following questions-
#1-Is it possible to port hostapd config from the Relay's stock ROM to the CM 10.2 ROM?
#2-If the above is true, then could it result in better or worse functionality?
#3-I have attached a PDF saved from a website that has the potential to explain this process, but it's a handful for even my brain and I need a little help breaking it down. It's 17 pages.
It essentially explains how to modify and what not to do when configuring hostapd.conf and its surrounding files and dependencies.
According to the similar threads list, this starter is one of a kind.
Please feel free to pipe in and help out.

Well, I actually liked my hotspot configuration and setup from 4.1.2 'BMC5, but I also enjoy the perks of CyanogenMod. I'm just trying to find a way to get the best of both worlds, if that's possible in this case.
in android 4.3, the hotspot setup is constricted compared to my stock ROM. But the disadvantage is that the ROM is bloated and I hate it for that reason. i had CM until recently, but plan to reinstate it on Christmas day after a disaster with my Wi-Fi amid other issues in a cm11 nightly.
I hope this answers your question, and it's certainly nice to get a reply from Team ApexQ so quickly.

In the end, T-mobile doesn't want to allow tethering freely, so the Stock Image is built around that -- This means that the methods in use between Stock and Cyanogenmod are essentially incompatible. Sure, you can go through a lengthly, 17 page process to hack it in, but to be frank, your time would be likely better spent getting us logs and descriptions of this 'disaster and other issues' with your cm11 nightly so that we can work on the problem, especially since using Cyanogenmod is your end goal Also keep in mind that nightlies are going to have problems from time to time, it's the nature of nightlies.
I understand, but...

About the t-mo tethering, I have a plan that perfectly satisfies me. I'm using it now. T-Mo was aggressive about this until about one month after I joined. (I joined 8/7/2013) They've become more flexible, and I am grateful, as I can use an unlimited data plan with my hotspot now. Combined with my UA Switcher, I can keep it longer.
Also, the code in the t-mo hostapd file is so simple, I chuckled. It's got only 8 lines of code. The CM variant has almost 3 screens or more of code. Please help me understand this difference.
Aboit CM11, I'm not going to get it. CM 10.2 is fine with me and my hardware/software items (BT Headset, apps, etc.) I am currently unable or unaware of the ability to create a log (yet). I'll read up on it.
And don't worry, I realize the nature and danger of nightlies more than ever, now. But you seemed to throw it in the bag with CM 10.2 (in a good way).4 Months for a stable? Genius efficiency! Let's hope you can do that for CM 11, too, then I'll definitely be on board!
Again, thanks for your replies.:fingers-crossed:
Another way of saying this is: We're not going to attempt to reconsile the differences between the CM config and the TW config. They're two different animals. You can try to drop in the config from TW on top of CM, but you're on your own. Thankfully, if you take a proper backup before starting, it should be easy to revert if this does break for you (And likely it will) The PDF you've posted is irrelevent. Linux and Android have moved on from the versions being discussed there.

What exactly do you mean by this?
Stock hotspots are always better and...
I mean that it has more features than cm. Examples include channel select, n compatibility (to avoid crossing BT wavelength) and a Mac address filter, plus the ability to know who's on it.
And, by the way I am back on cm 10.2, effective two hours ago. But I salvaged the WiFi folder from my old ROM. I'll attach it upon getting on my laptop. Also my dialer had failed to start. just can't win can I?

PS here is the attachment in zip form. It contains all the files (except wlan0 and the like) required for an awesome hotspot. Again, I will re-state that despite its history, T-Mo has eased on hotspot restrictions. I have a $70 plan with hotspot, by the way, and am using it to type this response.
Thank you for your interest!:good:

What you are looking to do then, is to use the T-mobile tethering app, which only works on TouchWiz, and only on the T-mobile tethering paywall. It, as far as I recall, uses Samsung specific frameworks, and cannot be ported As for the caveat you have listed with n compatiblity there, that's resolved in the CM-11 builds as near as I can figure what you're talking about. If there's a specific problem with with CM 10.2 or 11 you're trying to get fixed, get us logs. Google 'How to take a logcat', that should get you started.
Eureka, I've got a LOGCAT!
Here is the logcat. I do not know how long they are supposed to be, but since it kept going, i cut it off at at about one minute. If there is anything this can tell you (or me, for that matter), then I am grateful. I just hit "THANKS" to Mr.Gentleman for his picture-perfect help pages for installing the JDK and SDK.
Hope this works.

OK, I've got one that's been bugging me. I have a LOT of apps installed and if I have moved a number of the larger ones to the SD Card (to free up /data), once I get to greater than 1GB in android_secure, my phone fails to boot completely and just locks up. It's not the SD Card (32GB Class 10) that has errors (scanned with both Windows and 4Ext), just seems to be too much for the OS to handle.
I'm still running ShiftHackedA05P 2.8 (CM 2.7.3) from days gone by. Suggestions welcome. Thanks.
Edit: And I use Autostarts (Advanced mode) to turn off receivers for apps that I don't want to load, and LBE to disable permissions.
You might try using a Rom that has ext4 support since it supports larger file sizes.

Thank you for the reply, expert one
The folder has ~87 files of sizes 3MB to 40MB, which causes the lockup after booting at random times (sometimes it makes it further and ultimately boots, after MANY battery pulls). Once the folder is pared down to a lesser total size, the phone boots more rapidly and doesn't lock up; seems to be a linear relationship between how many files and the total time to boot until the CPU usage drops.
It might also be that most apps are moving away from app to sd since it isn't used as much anymore.

New issue, perhaps?, I am noticing that when LTE/CDMA mode my connection is showing as LTE only where it used to use ehrpd for transport and thereby still keeping 3g radio enabled. Normally no big deal but at times I am unable to send/receive texts or make/receive phone calls. Has Verizon stopped using this middle transport for LTE? I am unsure why I am always showing LTE only and if this is causing a problem. Switching to CDMA (auto prl) is the only remedy that I have found. Any thoughts?

Not really a problem but I noticed a thread that mentioned A LOT of older devices getting a port of KitKat...any chance that could happen with this old relic? Other HTC phone with some sort of working KitKat are: Sensation, Desire HD, Vivid, Raider, Evo, Amaze and Incredible S...or at least that is what this site claims.
Oh, sorry, I'm new here so I can't post the link.

I just saw where Droid Incredible 2 has a fully functioning CM 10.1 rom. Just wondering if that could be possible for us since DINC 2 has same processor, same resolution, same manufacturer, same everything except 4G. I'd love to have CM10.1 if it meant sacrificing 4G (or even all data).
I'm new to all this, but if you think a port is possible or maybe some other way to get this on our device I will give it 100% effort.
If it can't be done then crush my dreams now and I will somehow learn to live without my TB.
Thanks.
Porting the dinc2 ROM breaks data for the bolt since the bolt has an svdo radio setup. I have ported from it before and I either had calling with no data or just data. I'm not saying it couldn't be done but it is out of my area of expertise. Go to infectedrom. com and there is a cm10.2 build made by Santod that has working WiFi. It could be closed for any number of reasons. Cjen isn't a developer by any stretch of imagination. He's the same guy that kanged CM, and liquidsmooth code in the past in roms he called "liquidsmooth remastered", etc. He basically kangs roms, adds and removes apps, then rereleases them himself as though he built them, all without providing the source that would show no commits made by him. The irony is, liquidsmooth 3.2, CM7.2, And thundershed actually worked perfectly for the most part, his so called rom doesn't... If you're interested in gingerbread AOSP roms for the bolt, i'd stick with thundershed and liquidsmooth. At least workshed's and team liquid are real developers and their roms worked...

Q&A for [ROM] Vanillipop 1.2 - 11/26/2014 [Vanilla Android Lollipop]
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM] Vanillipop 1.2 - 11/26/2014 [Vanilla Android Lollipop]. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.

Lost root on install
Just installed 1.2. Installation seemed to go normally, but I no longer have root. I've already upgraded the firmware. What am I missing?
Nice rom... This one seems more snappier than that other 5.0 gpe rom...great work!
I keep getting lockups with this ROM. I'm not sure if it's something I have installed or whatnot, but I have had to reset with Power+VolUP about 4 times just today. I do like the speed and snappiness of it, but I just need stability right now. I've seen a few people with this problem, but haven't seen any solutions as of yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I had the same issue a few times within a couple hours, so I ended up just going back to Sense for now.
does this work on the GSM version?
GPS
Upgraded to 1.4 this morning, still loses GPS signal when trying to use Maps for navigation after about 2 minutes, any help?
1.5 / 5.01 update?
I saw that 1.5 was in the works, but the thread has died down. Would be interested in knowing whether the delay is due to the 5.01 code being released and if we're perhaps going to jump to 2.0. Great work @okibi We appreciate your excellent efforts.
To the OP: just wondering if a rebase (with 5.0.1 out in the wild) is in the works for us. Thanks.

Just wondering if everything is okay with @okibi as it appears the thread / development on Vanilla Android Lollipop has died between 1.4 and 1.5. Hope all is well as this is my daily driver and favorite ROM.
Wifi randomly turning off
Got a problem, that I have been seeing randomly with this ROM. Every so often, the wifi on my HTC one m8 will turn off. When I try to go connect again, no networks are available but Wifi is enabled. The fix is to reboot the phone, then upon booting up it automatically connects and all is well until the next time it does this. My firmware is the latest (3.28.605.4). Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Ryan
Did anyone find a fix to the GPS problem?

Yeah, the rom was progressing pretty quickly, and then everything just went silent. It's odd.
Anticipating WiFi fix in next release.
No access point name
There is normally a setting for access point names in the cellular network section of settings to tweek so that my sms/mms app of choice can auto select the correct APN but it is missing from the rom. Is it in a different place in settings?
Amaze file manager force closing when trying to cut and paste from internal storage to ext SD card.
GPS issues
I am running the gpe #1 from [ROM] Vanillipop 1.4 - 12/1/2014 [Vanilla Android Lollipop], on a verizon htc one m8. In itself an amazing system, however i am having issues with gps. Although its on, it doesnt ever connect even though it shows it is. All apps say low gps signal, and using a gps tracker app, it says no sattelites aquired. Any ideas???
