Almost all custom roms I've seen are made by xda developers, and I'm always curious about how they did that. For example, I own a HTC J one, which doesn't have many roms, then I try to find some tutorials about how to port roms. All I've found are like replcaing some files only. But there're already sense 6.0 port for htc one m7, which is a source closed app as far as I know. So how do they do this job generally? By reverse engineering?

Hi!
I wonder if it's possible to port Meizu OS (see http://www.meizume.com/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meizu_M8) to our HTC devices?
I think it's a really cool OS that would be awsome to have on a HTC phone, and since it's based on Windows CE6.0 maybe it isn't that hard to port? Just a guess
I think the kind people at the MEIZUME.COM forum would give us a dump of the ROM if we ask kindly
nobody knows if this is possible?

no offense but how be we concentrate on finishing up the various ports of Android for HTC devices 1st.
Well... did CE6.0 change a lot as far as driver interface compared to CE5.0?
I doubt it will work.
The M8 uses Windows CE6 with a Custom Shell made by Meizu.
You would have to also port the drivers of our Windows CE5.2 Devices to CE6 and at the moment no one knows if that is possible or how long it would take.
That's what I mean, though. Is porting of drivers required or is the driver model the same?
Drivers are not the same and would have to be rewritten.... which is not an easy task.
windows mobile 7 is based on ce 6 so it will be possible then. until then... we wait.
okay, thanks for the replies! thought it was easier to port windows made stuff to windows made stuff but I seems like it was easier to port android to our phones lol
Its got alot more features then the psx4droid that's out now, and its open-source, if I had any idea where to start I would try to port it myself hence the request here..
Anyone up for the challenge? It's compatible with more games and got a lot of tweaks / fixes already worked out in both the original version, the reloaded and df version (all individual projects open-source)

Hey,
After playing around with the Xperia Arc system dump, I am interested in learning how to port some of the applications to other android devices. I thought maybe some of them would work on at least the X10, but apparently not.
I've seen success stories on people porting over the Droid X Multitouch keyboard to nearly every other android device.
I'm just wondering how this is done? Can anyone provide some insight/knowledge on the matter?
Thanks!
Wasn't sure whether to put this is the other section, or this one...so I guess I'll let the mods device
hey guys i was wondering that now since web os is going to be open source , if anyone here on xda would make a port for our samsung galaxy s plus ????/
even though webos is now open source there just arent that many people interested that want to port webos>android. currently the touchpad already has cyanogen7.1 (not stable) and thats already taking a lot of effort.
Hi guys/girls,
I would like to create a Galaxy S (I9000) ROM for a school project from AOSP.
There are a few to I would like to know before I start:
Because I can't work on it for more than 80 hours (including research), would this be do-able for a person with no real programming experience (yet)?
What version of Android do you recommend me to make? (which is the best for a beginner)
Does it cost me money? (drivers from samsungs?)
Will you be able to help me if I can't figure it out with Google/XDA?
My goal is to make it (call/sms/internet) work, not to make it the fastest ROM on XDA or something professional.
Thank you for your answer.
I don't know anything about making roms but I can say this.
The best version would be gingerbread 2.3.5 as its add for the sdk iis the best on the android website.
And no, it wont cost u money if u extract drivers from another rom
