Hi to all the lovely people at xda!
I ask for some assistance on the problem that I'm facing - I am not able to access the root directory on my phone!! I've tried fx file explorer amd root browser. Both show that the file is empty
I've tried rooting and unrooting, but to no avail..
Guys help me out!!
P.S.- i am not sure though, root just may be an empty folder, so I ask you guys to check out the root directory on your phones and then answer.
Thanks !!
It shows up empty for me in CM10 - it asked for root access before showing it to me, though.
Maybe it's a by-product of using the Linux kernel? /root is the root user's home directory.

ok i think Ive figured it out:victory::victory: ....first off BIG TY to josepho1997 for your quick reply to my post .... here's what i was doing wrong...i was in the right folder , however , when i went to the settings in es file explorer and went to check the root explorer ..it said it needed superuser privs i assumed when one rooted through KFU you got SU rights .....apparently not so .......so i downloaded the newest KFU and tried to re root and install SU it did re -root without a problem however SU did not install, so i re-booted my KF and hooked it to my pc found superuser.apk in the files folder and simply copied it to the root of my KF . then disconnected from my PC ,manually installed superuser.apk, reopened es file explorer went back to settings checked ROOT EXPLORER ,SU then came up allowing for permission , granted , went back to root folder , went to data /.....and there's the other folders that previously was not there ...HORRAY!!!!!!!!!......:victory::victory::victory::victory::victory::victory: ...so my problem was SU was not installed allowing the other files to be seen......hopes this help others having this same issue .....couldn't have done it w/o all the help from xda and all its members ...thanx again !!!!!!!!!!!
Dear XDA members,
I just got my very first MTK6589 phone, which i do like.. but i want it rooted ofcourse!
I tried the automated installers like motochopper, TPsparky and a few others, none of them succeeded.. so i went on a search.
What i found out is that when the SU file (or multiple files) needs to be copied to the /system/bin folder, there is no command to excecute it.. there is NO CP file to copy.. so .. how can i root this damn phone? i've been busy for hours now its driving me crazy!
// edit
also tried this root: Root MANY ANDROID! But it gets an permission denied..
Help please!
Greetings,
Kevin
Please Help I have deleted xbin folder in system/xbin in my samsung gts5303 and now i want to again root my samsung gts5303 but it is not rooting now.Firstly i have rooted it with Root Master android app but now when i m trying to reroot it with Root Master app it shows Sucessfully Rooted and also installs supersu app but not installs binary becouse binary is installed in system/xbin folder and i have deleted it.
and an unknown folder sbin is added in /sbin. and it is empty i have no root acess but when i m deleting it it is sucessfully deleted but when i comeback to / path it is added again
Now i m requesting you to please solve this problem and give me any app by which i can add xbin folder again in system/ with out root.and with out pc because i have not any pc...
thanks in advnce...
I hope you have a nandroid back up, otherwise it is going to be really hard to do with out a PC handy.
You will not be able to add File or folder in system even 3rd party app will not be able to write on system folder without root permission so try to full unroot the phone then again try to root so there is a chance of reinstalling binary again anyway don't you have nandroid backup?
how can i do nandroid backup

Hello ppl's have looked everywhere online for someone whit the same problem as me but whit out luck so now I am crying out for help!
I have a problem i don't know how to solve, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and I want to disable to button's (the return and the task bar button) I have found a couple of guides that all lead to the same conclusion
Which is: I need to write/edit in a script called "Generic.kl" located /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
The problem is that when I rewrite/edit the script it comes whit an error "/system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl: open failed: EROFS (Read-only file system)"
I have a custom ROM called hyperdrive installed
My device is rooted whit superSU and ES File Explorer have # (super user permission)
I have enabled ROOT Explorer, pressed it and mounted R/W set all to R/W after that in propperties change the file so that it say r/w under every domain
It diddent work whit ES Explorer so I tried Super Manager
My device is rooted whit superSU and Super Manager have # (super user permission)
I have enabled ROOT function and in propperties change the file so that it say r/w
I have spent a lot of time looking for a solution and I'm a sek away from giving up..
So there it is hope that there is someone able and willing to help me whit my problem
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.

I have a letv x500 that came with a crappy custom ROM. So I wanted to download the oficial ROM for ir. I just have to place the update.zip file in my root directory. So I change the root directory to read and write, paste the update file in it and close de root explorer. After getting into se recovery mode, the phone doesnt seem to find the update.zip. So i check the root explorer, and the root directory has no update.zip file I had placed there and is set back to read only.
So I found out every time I change to read and write and close the root explorer, It gets set to read only again.
Am I doing something wrong?
I'm sorry, i've never flashed a rom b4, and I'm quite new to rooting. But a lot of things in my phone wont work in this ROM, so i really need this to work.
Thanks ppl
