I messed up my N5. My IMEI is 0. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have 2 nexus 5's. My first one stopped working(dropped it, no internet connection anymore) so I got the second one. I backed everything up from my old nexus 5. I restored it to my new nexus 5. Without thinking I flashed over the new nexus 5's EFS. Now my IMEI is 0 and I cant connect to the network. (WiFi works just fine).
I have tried resetting my phone to stock but that doesn't do anything.
Is there anything I can do? I have been searching for IMEI changers for the past couple of hours but everything I have tried doesn't seem to work.
Edit: I know changing IMEI's is illegal, but is there something I can do besides that?

Man, you're hosed. Flashing the imei from your previous device screwed you

Is there literally nothing I can do to solve this? I know changing IMEI is illegal but is setting it back to the original illegal? I have the original IMEI on the box it came in.

Just to confirm, because I know this is a mistake I would make, but would Google take it back and RMA it out? Or would it not be covered?

It's lame but you would need to hard brick it and tell them it would not turn on. But still a lame move.

Sorry for your loss
I think you're best bet is to sell both for spares and buy another, then consider it a lesson learned the hard way.

Too bad its too late to smash the past for the one plus one promo. This would have been win-win

Not really. He can just send it to LG and they can repair the EFS / IMEI. Its easily repairable by a professional. Even if he had to pay, it would be a nominal amount.

He has a backup of his EFS in that link though... if he didn't have that I doubt there was anything he could do except getting it rewritten at a repair centre.

Will Samsung fix bricked Skyrocket within warranty without question?

Has anyone bricked their Skyrocket after rooting it, sent it back to Samsung, and had luck? I imagine they have so many phones coming in/out that they might not check. Ultimately, just hooking it up to their JTAG unit and reflashing it.
But, I'd like to know if anyone has had any experiences with this.
If you search answers will come I suggest something about bricked phones

k, thanks. So it seems like they will replace them. I'm wondering if I should say that Kies died during an update or if it just died and won't power on.
Battery on your comp died or you dog tugged on the cable mid update

bricked mine. wouldnt even turn on. couldnt get recovery or download mode. sent it to samsung and they marked it as a faulty pcb and replaced it.
Be very very careful when your flashing. Don't flash in a thunder storm, in a car, or while your moving. Make sure your phone, your computer are charged. Make sure your USB ports work your cables are good. Make sure not to move your phone, hold your phone while its flashing. Be sure to read and read again before you flash.
Check double check every file. Make sure your downloads complete, make sure its for your phone. Read other post and learn from them. And you won't have another bricked phone.

Hard bricked mine the other day. Went to at&t said it turned off when I plugged it in and they gave me a new one right away.

Just came back from At&t Device Support Center and they fixed my bricked Skyrocket in less then 10 minutes. The chick giggled when she saw it was rooted and said I shouldn't do it anymore. LOL. If you're under warranty still, go to your local center. Maybe they'll fix it even if it isn't under warranty. Might depend on the person though.

going to see will they take mines and switch it out the same day, I bought my skyrocket with broke screen from my friend, he said he accidently kept the phone old one, so I bought it for a reasonable price, if they take a look at the IMEI will they say something about it being not sent back, I mean I been using it for awhile now, I say about 2 or 3 months. Hopefully they'll switch it without problems or asking for my account, but some how I know they will what do yall think?

[Q] Nexus 5 Sudden Death?

Woke up this morning and pulled my Nexus 5 off the charger using it normally for about 2 hours. Then all of a sudden I pull it out of my pocket to look at something and the screen is black. When I pressed the power button it would light up a little bit so I held down the power button to make it turn off. I tried putting it on the charger and it vibrated so I thought maybe I just needed to reboot it. I tried holding the power on button long enough to try to get it to boot up again but all it will do is vibrate after holding it for about 10 seconds. Nexus 5 is rooted, was using a custom DPI for a few weeks now and I can't get it to boot at all or boot into recovery. Anything I can do besides call Google?
EDIT : Also I can see the device in adb when its plugged into my computer (unauthorized device) so I can't really do anything with that it seems like.

How? Can't boot into fastboot. Also when I try to run any fastboot commands it just returns <waiting for device>. Think i'm going to have to RMA it.
Edit : Yep defiantly going to have to RMA it. Something is wrong with the screen. I just received a call when I thought the device was powered down... lol

Hi,
Mine has played a similar trick whereby it was on charge overnight and found dead in the morning....how did you fix yours?
Also, mine is rooted and boot loader unlocked....will this void warranty?
Further, to complicate things I purchased mine from eBay and it was supplied by O2 on contract?
Any advice will be much appreciated as I feel lost without my phone!

Even if you manage to restore it to its factory state, I don't think it will be covered as it wasn't purchased from Google Play.

they charge you only one time. if you do a rma, they will send out a new phone before you send the old one back. they wont charge you for the second phone, but they will put a hold on the second phones price in case you dont send them back the 1st phone. that is standard procedure for many companies. the other way would be to send your phone in first, let them recieve it, then wait for the second phone to be sent out.
Ended up taking it back to o2 shop... Have to wait for a week for it to come back......
Maybe I should have contacted LG direct?

Exactly. When tmobile runs out of options, it's redirected to the phone's manufacturer. Google isn't the manufacturer. LG is, but their CS is terrible and you have to pay for shipping both ways.

Nope, Ill tell you what happened. I have been having problems with the evolution mods kernel rebooting my phone, after i tried the "fixed" version.
So i flashed the full firmware from the 1.55.602 update (im running a stock rom with bloating removed) and i removed the hboot from the zip. Since im running a custom hboot with the text removed. Thinking i could just reflash the stock kernel.
i flashed it, did a fastboot reboot and now its deader than a hammer.
no charge, no usb activity, no turn on. dead as can be. Ill take any and all suggestions. I know my way around pretty well, so im surprised that its bricked. But its the first M8 brick, unless someone has a clever idea?

well, its at HTC (en route) right now. It should get there wed/thurs. If i get a bad case of sticker shock, illl get it sent back. If they can fix it for reasonable, then i will get it fixed. I am a big fan of your effort to free these android devices. So if they want too much, id be happy to send it to you. Maybe you can prevent the next one from occuring. No worries, hopefully you can get it fixed reasonable. Kudos for being honest about it, most people would claim warranty.
Actually I dont mind buying devices. Just for something like this I wouldnt feel good intentionally bricking a $600 device. I do it enough on accident

So i had edged up from my M7, ended up selling that for 400. Got the M8, had 2 payments made, bricked it. So i had to pay off the 500 on the edge. Now whats interesting if you early payoff the edge, you are out of contract, COMPLETELY. So i ended up with a free standard upgrade, so i was able to edge again. thats a FYI if anyone is interested. Kinda sucks, but i made my money back already fixing computers this week. Any idea what i did wrong, i have flashed M7 & M8's & DNA's so many times....I know my way around. Im still baffled

Malware?

My phone is rooted, has CM11, and also have a badly cracked screen/digitizer. I'm debating if it's malware or just the digitizer. I've ran AVG and Malwarebytes and nothing shows up. Coming here to see what you guys think.
My phone keeps clicking random ****, so that's why I'm asking.
Malware can't crack your screen.

Well you didn't actually describe any symptoms so I was unable to guess what you meant to say. Now you actually edited your post to add the symptoms , that definitely can be the digitiser

From Googling, people are stating $130 with waiting 1.5 weeks to 3 weeks.
Don't have an extra phone, so getting it fixed where I'm located might be a better.

I bought this phone off Craigslist. I don't think the warranty will cover anything else.
