What do you mean developer edition? Like, what constitutes one?

I meant the official developer edition M8, without Verizon bloatware and it gets the fastest software updates directly from HTC.
Like my At&t M7 converted to Developer Edition received kitkat update 1 month before At&t released it.
I always thought if you had a carrier specific phone, you needed to receive any update through that specific carrier.

Don't use the gpe ruu method. Gsm folks are still trying to figure out how to get the system partition back to normal size after using that. Just run a gpe Rom.
Sent from my HTC6600LVW using Tapatalk
I'm not talking about converting to gpe, I'm asking if its possible to convert to developer edition, i like sense ui. I don't like Verizon bloatware. And updates from htc have to go through verizon before they are released. So it takes longer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the only difference between the developer edition and the normal One is the unlocked bootloader. Outside of that, everything else is identical. The only software differences are between the VZW models and the GPE model. So to convert your phone to a developer edition, you would need to unlock the bootloader and that's really it.
The easy answer to this question is no. There is not a CDMA version of the Developer Edition HTC One M8. This is the same reason why there is no GPE conversion available.
My advice would be to just to unlock and run a Sense ROM. These will have most if not all bloat removed in addition to some nice customization options

I unlocked , installed custom on my phone, then I relocked my bootloader and flash stock att2.20 by running ruu.exe. now, everytime I checked for software update, it always says service unavailable. Do you guys know anything about this problem? Btw, my phone is unlocked and use T-Mobile.

You realize you can't update a stock AT&T device via T-Mobile, even if you're using a T-Mobile sim card?

It always puzzles me why do people on custom ROMs want to get OTAs?
AT&T JB isn't rolling out yet. When it does, it will get posted in Development in a TWRP-flashable rooted form.
I also doubt the OTA will feature much (if anything) that is not already present in the JB Sense ROMs already up in Development, plus all of AT&T's bloatware crap and other meddling. Possibly including a new hboot that will mess up even more stuff this time.
Looks like you can't unlock the bootloader through HTC Dev on the VZW M8 Just got mine and tried and get the dreaded Error 160 MID Not Allowed.

IM sure someone will find way!
Why don't you try firewater s-off to see if the exploit still works? Please report back with your findings.
eidt: devs have said it could brick device, would not recommend doing it.

REALLY? This was the most predictable thing that Verizon could of done. Besides scribbling on the home power button and etching on the back,

Not sure why anyone is suprised. Those of us with the M7 knew this month's ago. For the first day after the M7 was released you could use HTC DEV unlock then VZ made HTC lock that down for the M7.
I too hoped maybe VZ had not gotten to HTC yet for the M8 so I tried but no luck. Will need to wait for rumrunner or firewater to be updated to support the M8. It may take a while....

Yes sir. Rumrunner gave you S-Off which is "Signature Off". Once that is set, you can flash custom recoveries and then custom rom's. It took months for the team to get this working and I know it did not work on 4.4.2. I think we are in for a long wait. If you bought this hoping you could get custom rom's you might want to reconsdier. If you like the phone and can live with it stock for a few months, it's a great device.
The M7 was the best phone I ever had and I swap phones a lot.

Well what about root? With xposed, root alone can provide a lot of nice added functionality before the bootloader is figured out

Is it possible at all to convert Verizon carrier unlocked M8 to Internation version..to receive updates from HTC outside US?
Currently phone is in global network mode on GSM network in asia. But updates from Verizon are only available on CDMA network.
HTCDev has
One M8 HTC WWE zip 3.4.0 v4.4.2 91.3 MB 1.12.422.19
this file available for download.
My Theory:
1. Install weaksauce and get temporary root
2. Use firewater method to achieve S-OFF
3. Install twrp recovery
4. Flash above zip file.
Will this work?
Another Q:
1. Lets say above method works....will it restore recovery to stock? Because htc updates will only work on stock recovery right?

If you go to the main HTC One M8 threads.. they have a conversion thread for M8 to International.. and if you read it, it says there is no support for CDMA only GSM..
Verizon = CDMA
Sorry.

Imo Scott's roms ie clean rom is closest to stock than stock. You can Soff and still keep its ability in tact and change what u want to as long as you don't change recoveries

I wish it was so I could get some GPE going that has everything working. Really the only big killer for me is not being able to browse the web and be on the phone at the same time.
I just don't understand why the 2 versions of phone are so different. I mean the VZW version can work on an international system right? Doesn't the VZW version version have the same hardware as the other models just not being used? Or just maybe VZW is just a bunch of spoil sports? I'm not sure if which but either way I wish I could convert mine to work with the stock GPE.

Exactly my point. If the hardware is same it should be possible to change the software and convert from Verizon to International.
At least can someone explain why it's not possible? May be any chances in future?

i can only speculate because of verizon's CDMA for Voice and SMS that the international HTC updates won't have the correct radios or bands that work specifically on verizon's band.

What you should do is the following.
Root and S-OFF. Install custom recovery, flash one of the latest rooted Verizon roms from the development section. If you want, flash the radios too.
So, about converting it to international, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the hardware in the Verizon phone is incompatible with the International firmware.
Hey, i recently bought an Unlocked Verizon HTC One M8,

Do you have any friends who are on VZW and have either a Moto X or iPhone 5/5S? The reason I ask, is because those 2 phones take a nano SIM card like the M8 does. When a software update comes out, try using their SIM card in your phone to take the update. That's the easiest way I can think of.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to s-off and then root your phone to push the firmware update.
the Red Viper ROM
So given that my phone is in the same situation as the original poster, all I have to do is to s-off and root my phone to push the update?
How would the update be done if it's rooted? I just want to update the firmware, I have no intention of adding a custom rom or anything, just whatever sense version is the latest on verizon now

Yes, you should be able to install just the firmware/radios. There is a thread in the android development section specifically for the installation of the firmware/radios. You will definitely need s-off to install them. There is also a thread on that - it's actually really easy. I had my brand new m8 s-off'd and rooted in about 20 minutes.
Hey all,
I'm considering all my options with Lollipop having recently released and it brought up a question.
I have a couple trips to Germany coming up. Is it necessary for me to S-off using Sunshine before I'm able to use a German carrier SIM card in my verizon HTC one? Would I just then be able to accept the OTA lollipop and stay stock S-off?
I read something about the VZW M8 coming carrier unlocked, but I find it hard to believe a company like Verizon would do that!
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the reply! So it'll work with S-off, but I couldn't tell from the thread whether S-off is actually necessary to be able to swap carriers. Any ideas?
Bump! Any other ideas?
From more reading, it looks like I HAVE to be S-off and rooted on a custom ROM to be able to use a German SIM card. Am I wrong?
