Data Speed and Connectivity Issues - test of holding positions - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I have been EXTREMELY disappointed in the data speed and connectivity of my new HTC One M8 on Verizon. The phone was having difficulty where my previous phone (HTC Thunderbolt... yes I used it for 3 years) was working fine.
This evening I conducted a test holding the phone differently:

test time
1 1:33 Phone sitting on desk
2 1:35 Phone held in left hand in palm with finger touching both sides
3 1:35 Phone placed back on desk to repeat desk test... test did not complete.
4 1:37 Phone held with 2 thumbs and fingers at bottom and held up (new server after restarting the app after the previous test failure)
5 1:40 Phone sitting on desk
My phone is NOT in a case and does NOT have a bumper. I will repeat the test when I get a case.
This is only a single set of data and should be tried by others and at other times of day etc.
For those of you experiencing data issues -- do you use a cover or bumper?

If you're having problems then you probably have a defective phone. Just replace it at Verizon.

I appreciate your reply.
I did another test with a phone case around my HTC.
with case on Desk 12.25M up 5.56M down 57 ping
with case in hand 10.05M up 3.57M down 51 ping
with case in hand 10.07M up 3.45M down 81 ping
with case on desk 12.61M up 3.55M down 69 ping
without case in hand connection failure
The case helped a lot. There are admittedly many variables out of my control.
Would you still recommend replacement for a unit that worked fine with a case but poorly without one?

I've been getting poor speeds with my M8 when my Thunderbolt was fine, but I've figured out it's only on certain towers. An example: .6-5.5 down at home, 55-65 down at my brother's. Try testing distant locations as well.

Those speeds are average for semi weak signal areas. Depending on your city, the tower layout may not be very dense and more spread out. My city is decent size but spread out and has a few large traffic areas which have aws working. My house pulls 2-5mbps, I get 15-20 at work, while at my friends house I'll get 80-100+ down ( aws obviously). It just really depends on the signal strength and traffic on the tower. You could have a bad phone but I doubt it

Moto Droid 2 Explodes in user ear. Is this really possible?

I'm not sure how many of you have heard it but a user was on a call and his droid 2 exploded and some of the glass cut his ear causing a hospital visit and 4 stitches. As a Electronics Engineer I doubt anything except the battery could cause such a explosion. But I'm not very knowledgeable on the LCD etc and to what the potential danger is for explosion.
I'm sure this will hit main stream media by tomorrow and if it is proven to be accurate and true, this is going to be a big hit for Moto and maybe cause for concern of others using the same possibly defective hardware.
Here is a video of a news clip. http://www.the33tv.com/videobeta/919e261e-2d3d-422a-bc61-f3c62612039c/News/12-02-10-Cell-Phone-Explodes

After some more investigating on Google I think this will turn out to be a fraud or scam. I can't see how the explosion could have came from the inside of the phone with enough force to crack the screen and the phone is still working. Most of these rare instances are related to the battery exploding. If this was the case the device would not function at all.
I suspect this guy damaged the device put it up to his ear and made it cut himself and try to make people believe it exploded.
We will see???
...I dont know what to make of that story. It seems to me that the screen is intact making and "explosion" kinda not possible. It sucks that this day and age we cant just take someones word on what happened but face it, the worlds full of people trying to get rich quick. Cant say that this is what this couple is doing...but looking at the phone, seems more like he dropped it and now wants a new phone for free.
I dont know..I suppose Verizon can release to Motorola his call records under a courts order and that would be the first step..see if he actually placed a call at around that time.
The other thing, If I was in my driveway and my phone explodes on the side of my head I am not going to leave my house and travel to my wife for her to tell me what happened lol, I am going to go inside my house and look in the mirror to see what the hell just happened to my head..thats just me though I guess?
He had to have smashed it in his pocket and answered a call thereby cutting himself on the glass.
considering that the Moto Droid line uses Gorilla Glass it really makes me wonder how the hell that happened without destroying the phone. one of my buddies who drives for another company accidentally ran his D2 over and the only thing that was still good was the screen. my guess is this dude is pissed about Verizion dropping the D2 and releasing the D2 Global with better specs and is trying to get out of his 2 year contract and get a payday on top of it.
he must've been overclocking the sh!t out of that droid2 3.0ghz maybe seriously who do you sue verizon or google whoever it is i'll say thanks for the riches ya dig.

Sensation - Back cover poor quality, tarnish

Hi folks,
I've had my Sensation for 3 days tops and something has happened to the back cover. It doesn't wipe off, have absolutely no idea what caused this.
Pretty poor considering it's two days old and treated with kid gloves, couldn't have looked after this phone more if I tried. Crazy.
My GS2 is still prestine, not a mark or scuff anywhere.

Nothing like that on either of my two back covers. I'd get it exchanged.

ffs... you had to send the entire phone back?
I've changed roms and allsorts already.
Yeah I'd ask HTC to supply you a new one, not acceptable really. Probably only a minor problem on a select new units because the build quality is usually top notch.
I've emailed HTC via the customer service channels on their site and attached a pic. See how it goes. Sending the entire phone back would be ridiculous. Cost them more in shipping, hassle and man hours.
I had a similar issue I think with my original cover. I had it less than 10 days, always on micro cloth etc. and I had a spot in the back cover. Of course everyone here will tell you it is something you are doing wrong but I handle my phones with the greatest care and always get top dollar for resale.
In the End HTC sent me a new cover and I have not had anymore problems so far, knock on wood..
T-Mobile have said I would need to replace the whole handset if I go through them. I hope HTC have a better answer, got it setup how I like, the battery is warmed up and broken in nicely too.

[Q] [SOLVED] DEFECTIVE PHONE are you having line out issues and blue photo?

I really do not one to create two threads on this...
issue 1
while charging (tested 2 chargers so far) I get feedback over the speakers when using the line out. we have tried 5 devices through the same set up and the skyrocket is the only one with this feedback
http://youtu.be/P-XmzjoMN4g
issue 2
a number of our photos turn out blue, some others have an odd bright line

Your first issue is a common complaint for all smartphones. They put out so much EMF noise that cheaply made speakers tend to crackle when they are near. Only solutions are speakers with better shielding or keeping the phone away. Sometimes a separation of 3-5 feet is enough.
Issue 2 is just weird. I don't know what to tell you except that it is probably not related to one. Do all your pictures turn out like that or just some?
Thanks for the reply...but out of 5 android devices...this is the only one that does this in the same vehicle/same cables (Harmon kardon sound system)
That is the odd thing about the pics.. it isn't all of them. I would say 1 in 20

check your finger placement, it may be guiding the LED flash away from 1 side of the image, and towards the other (at least on pic #2)

That is what I am thinking.
I went ahead and exchanged my phone over the line out issue...moments away from testing it

Phone was defective. So far none of the above issues are present on my new replacement.

[Q] Antenna signal

I know the phone is still not in the hands of everyday usage. But im worried about the antenna signal, particularly with LTE, I have the m7 now and in my house i get lte as long as im not holding my phone. This is partly due to metal framing of the phone and im worried if i chose the s6 im going to have similar issues.
Im really hoping that the metal design on the new phone does not impact lte signal significantly. I need fast lte at home since i dont have internet at the house. Does anyone know any specfics on methods or design that should hopefully let this phone have great signal
The phone doesn't have a metal back like the htc phones, it has a metal frame with a colored glass back.

I was referring to the rumor that samsung is ultrasonically welding the antenna to the chassis. Obviously its not a metal back i know the difference between metal and glass fortunately!
Do we know for sure if the lte modem will be ultrasonically welded to the chassis or is it just going to sit under the glass?
So I just found this which is concerning, looks like m9 shows better rf signals for lte bands . I hope this phone doesn't have modem and signal issues

So the M9 has way better signal... Wonder how this plays out in the real world. This does worry me though I frequent places with low (almost non-existant) signal coverage...

Yea which is making me nervous, one of the main reasons i was ecstatic to get rid of my m7 was signal issues and figured the m9 wouldnt have fixed much but now it seems i may have similar issues with the s6 compared to the m7.
I was dead set on getting an m9 simply for boomsound and the fact ive been with HTC for quite some time now. Never thought i would consider a samsung phone, but then they changed my mind by ditching the plastic and adding fingerprint scanner which ive been wanting since the atrix.

The Good & Bad - With iOttie Easy One Touch 2 (Car Mount)

I love this mount... suction holds to dashboard or window like crazy... good build/quality... fits my Nexus 6P... true one-hand operation (in and out)...
But (there's always one... and I got two):
The major issue... the side grips sit on the volume button... and once in a while, they would silence my device w/o me noticing
The telescopic arm, when fully extended (which is why I bought it), makes the whole thing less stable (maybe with a lighter phone it will be less of an issue). This is not a huge deal, but an FYI.
Should you buy it? I still think it's a good option... and to avoid #1 above, you could place the device a bit higher in the cradle (so it doesn't touch the volume button). It works, but makes it a bit unstable.

I had the same problems as well. The new version seems to have fixed all the problems with the Nexus 6P and in general.
I got an email from them yesterday and they're currently having a 30% off sale on Amazon.
The promo code is UPGRADE3.

I don't see how it solves the problem. The side arms seems to be located in a place still "squeezing" the volume rocker.

The side arms on the newer version are lower on the phone now. You can adjust the bottom arm vertically to adjust the height.
This video shows that the 6P is compatible with the new Mount. I have no problems with the new version. The telescoping is about 1 inch shorter so if that's an important feature for you then the new version isn't for you.
I've posted it before several times, the One Touch 2 is easy to use if you just tilt it a little bit with your phone tilted the opposite way your buttons won't be squished. Even better, I got the one touch 3 last week and it completely avoids the buttons whatsoever. Really the best holder that they've made yet but the old arm from the two series was better and longer.
I have one of their other ones and it clips on the side but with my Supcase, it doesn't affect it.
I like their holder. Very strong and I've had it on for over a year (dirty suction cup) without any issues. I might pick up the new one because it extends and it looks to be a better fit for my truck.

This is awesome. Thank you for sharing that there is a 3rd generation mount.
