HTC is a joke. - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Heads up, guys.
Ive had this phone for about 3 weeks now. I keep it in a case when I am out and about, and I usually take it out when I am home. So I get home a couple of days ago and I noticed the 'C' on the back fell out.

So I contact HTC about it, and they basically tell me I have 3 options.
1. Send my phone in to get repaired, which means I would be without a phone for an extended time, and I cannot do this. As a Systems Admin, even one missed phone call would be a major problem.
2. I pay $19, and they send me a box, and I send them my phone back and they send me a new one after they 'check it out'. Again, cannot be without the handset
3. They put a hold on my account of $599.99 for about 2 weeks, send me a new one and the hold will drop off after they receive the defective unit AND AFTER someone looks at it. Thats not very feasible.
So now, I have a phone with a missing C, which irks me. I paid $600+ for this phone outright, and I would expect better options than this. Maybe thats why HTC's reputation is so poor.

Those all sound like normal options to me. Any time I've ever gotten a warranty replacement item from any company they put a hold on a credit card for the price of the item. If they don't you've got a $600 device and they've got no way to get you to send in the old one. The charge isn't actually applied to the account, it will be in a pending state until they get the defective device.
My wife goes through this a few times a year with her insulin pump. They put a $3500 pending charge on a card until they get the old device back. Just do the advanced replacement and move on.

Why not go through Verizon? They should have some in Stock

I agree with post above try through Verizon. Otherwise those all sound acceptable. May not be ideal under some circumstances but those sound fine.

A joke?
Seriously man, what do you expect them to do lol. I mean things happen and they offered numerous options to make it right.
Aside from them sending you a letter and glue that is....

If we had loads of posts about the letters falling out maybe it would be a joke. As it is this is the first time I've heard of this happening on an M8. No product in the world will come off the line with 100% of them 100% perfect. Their options for you sound pretty reasonable. I agree with the others though; I'd go to Verizon and see what they'll do for you first.

Don't you mean HT is a joke? Sorry, couldn't resist.
As the others said, it can happen. The phone is machined out of a single piece of metal, and then adhesive is used to hold in the letters. Maybe someone was light on sleep when your phone passed through and didn't apply enough. The advance replacement is the best way to go in order to avoid downtime, provided that the phone is new. If it would be a refurb, then just go through Verizon and get it taken care of in advance without the CC hold.

If you can't live without it, just leave it in the case... Duh.

No offense but your post is really pretentious. You can't expect HTC to bend over backwards becaues you are missing a C, a purely cosmetic defect that isn't even facing you most of the time. I think having the hold on your account is totally acceptable, it won't even actually charge you.

This thread is a joke. HTC has one of the best customer service I've seen. They aren't going to give you a 700 dollar device for free. They need some reassurance that you won't "accidentally" lose it trying to return it just like how some people had "defective" S4's just to get an older firmware.

Not everyone buys subsidized from VZW, therefore going to them isn't an option.
Unrelated/related - Moto plays the same game. They do not care about the end user not having a phone for a period of time.

If you think that is bad customer service try dealing with Samsung

I bought my phone upfront. It doesn't really matter. Verizon will bend over and help you out. I once got a phone off Amazon mobile and Verizon had no problems replacing that phone 8 months down the road. Sure, Verizon can be evil when it comes to ruining our phones, but they'll bend over to replace your phone. Even it you bought it off ebay or whatever, the phone comes with one year warranty and Verizon will assist you.

I'm sorry to hear that about the C on the back of your phone falling off. Taking a look at my glacial silver m8, my HTC letters on the back almost apart to look like they are etched in. I don't think anyone with a silver m8 is going to have this issue.

Honestly man, and please dont take this "the wrong way..."
But your a SysAdmin and you dont understand the RMA process?
Maybe I dont understand what a Sys Admin is... But I thought you guys used to RMA stuff that goes bad.
Those options are all legit to me. I RMA stuff all the time and these are pretty standard options.
Hell, I even have High end Asus boards that need RMA from time to time and the give me the same as HTC has given you.

B/S. I never buy subsidised phones via VZW (well maybe once in a while)...
Most of the time I buy like new from Swappa or brand new from VZW... and VZW will still take care of me regardless if its new or not.
I also have the Insurance package though... So I am not sure if that makes a diff?
But eitherway... VZW has never said "no" to me...

Yeah I don't know what you expect them to do bud. They're not going to wipe your ass for you too. These are normal options that you get from any company and like others have said, why not go through Verizon?

I'm sorry the world doesn't revolve around you. The world is an unfair place. It would be an inconvenience to any one on here to not have their phone. As a Sys Admin, maybe talk to your employer about getting you a dedicated secondary line as a failover, you know - because of the doomsday scenario of missing one call.
So you can either start there, create a silly post, or take one of the very viable options an outstanding company offered you.

I resemble that remark. It was a legit warranty claim though.
S4 + MDK + ROOT/Unlocked bootloader + CM11 - - Medicore device to excellent device.

The warranty is intact even if you buy full price. I had to swap my non-contract M7 when the battery overheated and died. The phone rep couldn't stop apologizing and actually credited me for 3 days of service although I was only down for 1 thanks to overnight delivery.

AT&T reps...

Well I went to a device service center to exchange my phone for random shutdowns. My phone was running stock and unrooted. When I gave it to the rep to spent about 10 minutes looking at the phone information under the settings menu. He finally look at me and told me that I voided the warranty of the phone. I was like wtf? Then he claimed that KB1 wasn't official and that his computer only showed that jh7 was the only official release... Then he went back to my home screen and claimed that my adw launcher also showed a custom rom...
I kept trying to tell him that kb1 was official and I even turned off the launcher. He was getting pissed and trying to make it seem like he was going out of his way to let me slide. Finally got him to get another phone out of the back and load it and and check the about phone settings... and those phones come loaded with froyo already. He still tried to play it off like he was doing me a favor though. I was like oh crap hes gonna put a mark against my account or something.
What was also funny was that his personal phone was a droid x and he was bragging about how he has a leaked gingerbread rom on it...
So does anyone else have any good atnt stories?
i would talk to his manager. AND call AT&T customer support. get pay-back in dollars and accessories.
Yeah, you really should have told him that you'll be back, then driven your car through the front of the store.
He finally honored my replacement in the end. But like I said he tried acting like he was doing me a favor. I wondering if he put a note or something on my account claiming that my warrenty is voided. Is there anyway to check?
I remem when I got mine replaced. It was because it wouldn't go into recovery at all with button combo. I think this was before the fix, and even before the leaked froyo. I needed recovery to root and install oclf. The guy replaced without any questions asked. But of course he knew exactly what I was trying to do and had even rooted his too

As per AT&T's terms of contract, he IS in fact doing a favor to u. Once u load any custom, u have ur warranty voided. U should always revert to stock before u take the handset to AT&T store, in case u have custom rom on it.
I don't think he would've put anything like that on ur account. Cos had he put a note like that, he wouldn't have exchanged ur phone.

maybe you didnt see the fact that he was running STOCK AND UNROOTED as stated in the OP....custom launchers DO NOT void warranty

but op didnt have a custom rom on the phone. the rep oddly had a verizon phone with a custom rom and thought he knew something. turned out rep was wrong and being an a-hole.
Yeah, what PirateGhost said, he wasn't doing him a favor, just being a **** for the sake of being a ****. Probably gets his rocks off bullying customers because he thinks he's a big tech guru by running a gingerbread leak and raging that he has a desk clerk job instead of some engineering position he thinks he deserves.

there is really no way to getting around bad customer service issues. Sadly only thing we can really do is inform their managers and even that doesn't work out as planned since their more focused on protecting their employees than listening to their customers

Lololol sounds like something I would say
Yah the only time the phone was ever rooted was to flash plumbobs gps fix. That was awhile back. The phone was odin'd back to stock and sent to samsung for repair gps/wifi issues. When I got the phone back from them they loaded 2.2 on it. Since I received it back from samsung I didn't do a thing to it and kept it stock... The phone then developed shutdown issues so I took it to my device center and thats when this started.
It's just that the atnt service center rep didn't know/believe that kb1 was a official version of android for the captivate and he was giving me a hard time about it and my adw launcher. Telling me that my warranty was voided and how the only thing he could do was give me a new battery blah blah blah. He also said that the adw launcher was classified as some form of superuser... lol (He took my phone and showed it to me and he flicked thru my home screens and app menu and kept saying yep this is a custom rom)
It's just funny cause after we gotten the facts straightened out (made him pull a captivate off the shelf and boot it up and look at the phone information) he goes on to show off his droid x with some leaked gingerbread rom....
what a douche. did you call him a douche because i would have called him a douche.

if you complain in the right way you get alot. i do it all the time. i had my telus bill cut in half over bad customer service. i hate telus though. it was always bad customer service. thats why i dont mind paying more than my half bill.
the guy was flat out lying to you or mis-informed either way ATT customer support does not give a crap about protecting a bad store rep. his manager maybe. but corporate NO WAY. then he goes on to show you his voided device? if i was his manager, i would fire him.
why is the att rep on a verizon plan? doesnt att give employee plans? i find it hard to believe that there is a benifit for him to buy a verizon phone. i havent seen a single area that i cant get service and verizon does. i know such an area must exist but there are also plenty of areas that the reverse is true.
It's always the one that "has a leaked rom" on their phone that tries to screw you over in the stores. I've had it happen to me before, don't worry just talk to another store/rep if that ever happens.

Im 100% sure he has version. I doubt his DroidX was unlocked or anything because I was talking to him about how version has no service in my area and he went on to explain the difference in the networks. I should've took a picture of him trying to show it off to me as I was playing around with my new phone.

Two year contract + new(ish) job at ATT = might as well wait it out?
I've had AAA Plus for 20+ years and never once did I pay for it. I've been on my parent's AAA plan since I was a kid. They've always just kept me on it, and they won't take my money when they make me come pick up my new card every year. After a while I quit offering to reimburse them.
Just sayin'

I hate the Altamonte store! They're idiots in there. I went in there once with a question about my e71x and a rep basically just tried to shoo me away to drive down the street to the warranty/repair center by Publix...I had to insist that he help me- it's a good thing I did because, as it turned out, warranty would have just made me to drive back.

Need some help

So I decided to try AT&T(Currently with Sprint) just to see how much better the network was due to how horrible Sprints network is. So I went and purchased the AT&T One X. I absolutely loved the phone and the difference in download speeds is just ridiculous. Well I had the phone for about a 1 1/2 days and was having a problem where the phone would just randomly reboot and was getting to be a major pain. So I went to AT&T and asked if I could swap it for a new one. After about 30 minutes of going back and forth and threatening to cancel my contract they agreed to give me a replacement but I would have to pay the $35 re-stocking fee, but they didn't have the color I wanted so they found another store that had one. I went there to pick it up and noticed that the seal on the box had already been cut. I thought, maybe they just cut it open while I was on my way. I also noticed the guy couldn't get the phone to turn on and come to find out it was completely dead, which was weird because the first one I bought had almost a full charge when I got it. So I took the phone and after I got home I was looking around in the settings menu and noticed that the battery had over 2 days of use and I only had the phone for an hour. So I called the store and asked the guy why that was and he told me they were probably doing tests with it in the store. I told him I didn't want a phone they were messing with in the store and that I wanted a brand new one. Well he hung up on me. So I went back to the store I bought the first one from to see if there was anything they could do and they said for 1, I can only swap out the phone once within my 30 day period and 2, since the phone came from the other store they would have to be the ones to replace it and if I wanted to cancel my service I would have to pay another $35 restocking fee. So my question/questions are, (1) Has anyone noticed that there battery had been used for any amount of time when you first got the phone and (2) For anyone that may work or has worked for AT&T in the past, am I entitled to a new phone since clearly my phone had been used and was not new? Sorry for such a long post but I thought I would get the best advice if the whole story was laid out. I know getting a phone that had been played with for a couple hours may not be a big deal to some but to me I paid for a new phone and that's what I want. Thanks in advance for any help or advice you may be able to give.
Get your new phone.. [email protected] ATT

When I got my one X they opened it for the first time right in front of me, it still had the plastic seal on the box.
Go back and demand they give you a new phone. You should never have had to pay the restocking fee for the first one and you sure as hell shouldn't have to get stuck with a phone that wasn't new. Good to see you here, btw. I hope you decide to stick with the One X, it's an amazing phone... I don't miss my E4GT at all now that I have this thing. Gonna be theming for us?

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I really appreciate it. Ya, they made me feel like I'm crazy for wanting a new phone. As long as they agree to give me a new phone I plan on keeping it and I definitely plan on building themes for it. If not then they can have it back and I will stick with what I have. I have never been treated so bad. One thing I think they could get a few lessons in from Sprint are Customer Service. By the way, good to see you here as well.

Ya, I took it in and the guy that was there said he was the one that personally opened it and he opened it to show a customer and may have forgot to turn the phone off. He said that he would not take the phone back because there was nothing wrong with it. Even after I threatened to cancel my service he said, that's fine but I will not take it back since there is nothing wrong with it. He said if there was something wrong with it that would be a different story but since there isn't then there was nothing he could do about it.

That's kinda BS but whatever... if there's nothing wrong with it then I'd just keep it. Think of it this way, it's still for all intents and purposes brand new, still has a full warranty (though not too many of us here care about warranties lol), and if something does turn up to be bad with it, then you can exchange it. Don't let your bad experience with a couple idiots at the stores overshadow the excitement of getting such an amazing phone. I know I am completely obsessed with mine, I really feel the same way I did when I got my OG EVO 4G 2 years ago... not even my E4GT was able to give me that feeling again. This thing is so damn cool, just enjoy it and forget about all this BS. That's my two cents

I agree. It really left a bad taste in my mouth and I was really considering just canceling my service because the customer service I've received from AT&T has been horrible so far. But I absolutely love this phone and it's almost impossible to think about giving it up. Thanks for all the advice.
I'd call at&t customer service and complain about paying a restock fee on that first return. defective devices NEVER should have a restock fee. Since you're new customer, and can cancel service with NO penalty, I'd be shocked if they didn't give you some kind of account credit, probably more than the 35 dollars you were charged. I've found AT&T's phone reps to be very good in the past and as always you catch more flies with honey.
Good luck.
Tiff,
Was this a corporate store or one those preferred retail stores? If it's a corporate store you need to call AT&T over the phone and tell them how you were treated. Let them know the whole story and that you were charged $35. That's not what is suppose to happen.
If it's one of those preferred retailer stores, I'd return it and go to the corporate store and buy it there.

You should definitely call AT&T and get the restocking fee back. It's crazy to make you pay extra just to have a working phone.
Don't know if they'll give you a new phone though. Did you do a factory data reset on the one you have to wipe it?

Called at&t CS to get a replacement and Denied

my hox has the led bleed problem so i tried to get a new one since im still in my 30day exchange. no one in miami has one so i was told to call CS and try to get it replaced after 30 min of being transfered from department i get to someone trying to get me a replacement and then spoke to a supervisor whom told me the manufacture is calling back these devices and at&t is stoping the sales till further notice. the only options i have is stay with the phone and deal with it or send it back and get a refund. this sux the phone is GREAT im an iphone convert and now i need to move back . has anyone else herd this or does anyone have connections with at&t to see if there is any validation. i dont really want to go back to the iphone... ive been spoiled with the hox.
Yep, was told the same thing. They are basically not selling this phone for the near future. No exchanges or sales. I would hold off for the Galaxy S3 anyways.

I'm mostly scared about getting replacements... I'm going to verify with AT&T today. If they are stopping sales of HTC One X's I'm returning my phone.

I will be shortly. Going back to the Note, most likely. It's already noted and approved on my account, too.

Wifi mainly. Also, I am one of the unlucky bastards stuck on 1.85 without root or an unlocked bootloader. Sadly I do love the One X, but these two issues are killer to me.
Mine hasn't been rooted or updated. Doesn't reboot or anything like my last ones but do have some battery discharge issue. If the phone is turned off for a few days battery is dead when turned back on. All 5 of my One X's did the same thing though. I had to do alot of returning to get a good one but am just giving up on this phone. Loving my Galaxy Note more.
Anyone want to buy it before I return it? $500.
I'm forcing my exchange now over the phone. I processed an exchange LAST week and today I received a package for a refurbished iPhone 4 8 gig. Not even a 4S wtf? I was pretty pissed so now I'm on hold. They're offering a free Bluetooth headset for the inconvenience. Will update later.

But this is HTC's flagship device. Do we really think they are going to let ATT just call it quits? I'm inclined to think not. Maybe this is just confusion over the slowed sales due to many models being held up at customs? No offense to ATT's CSRs, as they've always been very helpful for my preexisting issues or account questions, but they've never seemed to have any idea of things to come, nor have they led onto anything if they did know in the first place. And I really mean that in the most genearl sense. I get way better info online and from well-connected sales rep (hard to find) at the stores who are in good with regional manufacturer reps.
hmm, all this talk has me nervous. I have until this Sunday to return the phone within my grace period and I am afraid if the phone is pulled, then the future looks very bleak for any development or support. I don't want to be stuck with what could be an excellent phone for the next 2 years with practically no support.
This is HTC's flagship phone, I can't see it just being yanked permanently off the shelfs??

We need more people contacting AT&T and confirming that this phone will no longer be sold and that it will be discontinued. If this is the case I am returning the phone to Amazon this instant.
I called yesterday. There was nothing in the csr system about the hox being discontinued.

I really hope it doesn't get discontinued. I had a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon but I couldn't deal with the purple discoloration of every device I looked at (f'n Pentile AMOLED) and terrible battery life. So I switched carriers for the One X hoping for an eventual Cyanogenmod ROM.
If development stops because the phone gets pulled, I don't know if I'd want to keep it. On one hand, it satisfies the geek in me to have something that was only sold for a short time, thus being "rare", on the other, I really couldn't deal with using HTC Sense forever.
UPDATE: I just called and the representative said that they've discontinued taking orders but they have no information on whether the device itself was being discontinued or not. She did see on her computer (in AT&T's system) that there's a customs delay, so they had to stop taking orders until it clears.
UPDATE 2: I just called HTC. A customer relations person called me back and told me that the One X is not being held at customs, and that the only reason it's backordered/out of stock is because they were ordered over capacity. I asked if they'll be sending more to AT&T any time soon and she said "Oh, absolutely."
She also asked me where I heard that from, I didn't mention XDA, but I told her that an AT&T rep told me that they're not taking orders for the One X because they're being held at customs. Again, she asserted that they're not being held at customs, and proceeded to tell me that she will have to communicate with AT&T to clear that up.
I tried to press 4 during the call (Google Voice) to record it, but it didn't work.
Call them yourself. Record the call if you can and throw it on Vocaroo: http://www.htc.com/us/contact/contact-us But I'm pretty sure for legal reasons, you'll need to ask if you can record them before you do it!!!!!
You'l most likely be transferred to a voice mail and receive a call back within a few minutes
Last edit: I just wanted to add that it was really cool of her to get back to me. I'm not a blogger or anyone important at all. Just one of millions of customers, and she took time out of her day to call me back. That's pretty cool.
Why would this phone get discontinued? Wouldn't HTC just release a software update to get past the apple troll patents?
The one xl isnt exclusive to the US. There are other countries getting this phone, albeit only lte capable countries which there aren't too many (Canada, Australia, Germany).
Edit: just noticed the late radio bands are slightly different, pretty sure that doesn't matter too much since the hardware is practically identical.
I think I've decided what I'm going to do. Return this phone and get the international. same price for me since I bought off contract.
id say its very likely they were held up at customs, or they just are backordered.
another big possibility is quality control issues (that they obviously wouldn't admit)

Very bad experience with One X and repair center

Hi,
I bought One X for my sister about 4 months ago. After two weeks the screen suddenly started showing strange behavior, it blacks out and becomes unresponsive without a reason! Sent for HTC for repair, after 4 weeks they couldn't repair it and sent a new one back to me.
After 8 weeks the new phone suddenly couldn't recognize the sim card, got a new one from AT&T but same problem. Sent to HTC again for repair, another 2 weeks past by and when I got the phone back it was without the sim card cover!! called the repair center again and they refused to assume responsibility !! They accused me of not following the rule of removing the sim card cover before sending the phone.
I've had it, I'm not going to buy HTC again.
Funny thing, there is a small card inside the return shipment that says take a survey at http://survey.htc.com, the link doesn't even work!!
I think I need to go back to Samsung, never had an issue with them, at least with 3 phones I bought since SG1.
Cheers,
Abdul
Come to think of it HTC kept my SIM card cover too, but I had already been warned previously.

Complaining here and then ending with "I'm going to go back to x device" isn't going to get you positive responses.
I agree though, I'm done with HTC for my own reasons. I'm anxious to go try a nexus
@ECEXCURSION, it's not only about them keeping the sim card cover, it's the fact that during the last 4 months the phone was them more than it was with my sister, she went on and bought an iPhone 5, she doesn't trust me or HTC anymore
HTC today remind me of Nokia in 2009, it's the beginning of their fall. It starts with them gradually loss interest in proper quality control, either in their manufacturing process or in their customer service.
I won't be surprised if new companies like Huawei and ZTE over take HTC position.
That's just sad, I've learned my lesson, bye bye HTC.
@absolutelygrim
Not sure I was looking for any particular kind of response here , I was just venting my anger/deep disappointment, I felt betrayed by a company I liked since I bought my first XDA from them back in 2004.
Cheers

Amen to that , I had my Galaxy Nexus for almost a year, it's been great, compared to it's cousin GSII Skyrocket, it's been more responsive, much better camera, much better battery. Want to buy Galaxy 4, but feel I'm buying just too many phones , and frankly, the good old Galaxy Nexus still working without single issue (touch wood).

I am on my 5th HTC phone now going all the way back to the wizard and have only had 1 hardware/build issue with the Inspire 4G and the GPS antenna spring connectors(bad design) and that was easily fixable. As a whole they are extremely tough and durable. Many times I have expected the phone to break after dropping it, or closing my trunk on it with the metal latch hitting the screen directly(Corvette has a ledge at the back of the trunk that the latch pins go through, bad place to put your phone) and have yet to break one or have any real issues at all.

I've heard mixed things about HTC support sometimes I hear its fabulous and sometimes not so much.. I like hearing both sides if the equation because I've never dealt with their support as ive never(knock on wood) had a hardware problem with a phone of theirs...so I like to be ready and know what I might have to deal with when one day I do have to deal with their support so I say thanks to op and sorry for the inconvenience they caused you
@tactical kitten, you're right its good to read experience of everyone, truth shall set you free
Personally, I dealt with many, the best was Apple, yep, you pay a premium for their devices, but you get good after sales support.
Samsung is about average.
HTC is below average

Thats True i dont like Apple but his Service is very nice
my wifes phone doesnt recognize the sim card some times were you running a custom rom and was it all the time or just here and there? i love htc products, i couldnt see myself with a samsung or anything else really i guess i just like sense and having the option to run sense and aosp. ive been htc since the g1 then htc glacier, now here with the one x. never had a problem with any other than my one x screen scratched real easy one day when i had it laying on the counter and cleaning the back of it
Here is a quick update, HTC called me today because I gave their customer service very negative review in their online survey (yeah I found a way to reach the right page since this page is broken http://survey.htc.com)
Anyhow, they offered me the sim card tray back! OK, that's good, at least they moved from being bad at it to being slightly below average
at least I can get the phone working and test whether they actually fixed the sim card issue or not
Yay HTC Rawx.

Complaining here will help, because if other people are having issues they can complain too and help people be aware of their BS and re-direct customers to other companies.
I am also very disappointed on how my wifi goes off after the phone goes to sleep and this is my 4th phone I have replaced for testing purposes and all come back with the same issue. Although on 4g works fine no issues... I also read an article that HTC claims it is working as intended to save battery life... this is good, but why is it that if i have "Keep wife on while asleep" to "always on" not work????? Whats the point on turning on that option if it doesn't work. They should allow us to use that feature, but work.. should be our decision to make if we want to save more battery or get our real time alerts. I'm also not going to purchase an HTC phone again going forward once my contract ends, because I heard this is happening on the one X+ and other HTC devices as well. Screw that!

[Q] Galaxy Note Edge Camera Failed Server Error. Restart Camera

Just picked up a new Galaxy Note Edge on release day 11/14/2014 from my local T-Mobile store. It was working great the first two days and now I am seeing issues using the Camera. Sometimes it works and others times it just freezes or crashes.
Seems like it may be a hardware related issues since the stock Camera app and Google Camera app are both displaying similar errors.
I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing this issue or if I received a defective unit. I read online that the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 had similar issues when it was first released.
- Server Error Occurred. Restart Camera
- Camera Failed
I posted a video on YouTube. Couldn't past a link but you can search for : Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Camera Failed Server Error Occurred
It could be a defective phone. Mine wouldn't focus. They replaced the phone and now it focus and takes very nice pictures.

Yes, you are correct. I went to the Samsung Shop at Best Buy and they said it is most likely a hardware issue. They tried to update the software/firmware but it was still having the same issue.
Only problem now is the phone is sold out almost everywhere near me so I have to wait until one is back in stock.
Yeah make sure you get what you deserve. A new one not a returned phone from someone that didn't like it and returned it. I had that problem with best buy.

I bought a Evo back then, same thing as you, quote: from best buy,we don't have another one but as soon as it arrives you will get a replacement. After 14 days they called to pick it up but it was a refurbished, used. Be careful bro. If you're within the 14 return date and don't get a new one, jus return the phone and get it in another place.

Yes, i received a message from Samsung as well. I sent them my information so hopefully they can contact me tomorrow and get this issue resolved.
Thanks.
I also had similar issues with my camera. It must be a QC issue in the hardware. I had pre-ordered my phone and there were no stores where I live that have the note 4 edge in stock. I had to online chat with ATT to get a replacement phone sent to me. ATT said it could be 3-5 days before they ship me a new one.
Thanks for all the replies.. I never heard back from Samsung but I was able to find a T-Mobile store that had a Note Edge in stock. Thankfully they were a great help and exchanged it for me without any fuss. So far the replacement is working great, hope it continues to do so.

My Note Edge Camera is acting up now. It keeps crashing with Server error and sometime BLACK Screen. I am 2 days past the 14 day exchange period and both ATT and Samsung both are pain to deal with
Samsung want my phone to be shipped for repair. They are saying it might take up to 10 days !!!
ATT screwed me loyally with their 14 day Buyer Remorse policy. They say the 14 day period starts the day they ship their their Phone !!! Isn't it supposed to be the day you receive it ???
No luck wit the store as well . Completely disappointed with Samsung support !! I am coming from Apple and used to get the phone fixed when i walk in to the store. Samsung is horrible !! No more Samsung for me.
Yeah man, its a shame the phone has this problem after a few days of using it. Samsung said the same thing to me, they wanted me to mail it to them so they could diagnose the issue. I told them to send me a replacement and then I'll send them my unit but they never replied back to me. Sounds like a bunch of BS if you ask me.
I could be wrong but I think online phone sales come with a 30 day return/exchange (might be business customer only). I know in-store is only 14 days, you might want to call customer care and double check with them. I came from an iPhone and I never had issues with Apple service. I would take it to their store and they would either give me a replacement or fix the issue while i waited. I'm done buying Samsung junk. The phone is great but I don't feel comfortable buying products from a company that won't take care of their customer in a timely manner.
Best of luck to you!

Thanks Ankur !! But here is ATT return policy...
Device Return Period
Retail Customers - You have 14 days after purchase (or shipping date, if equipment is shipped) to return or exchange your device.
Business/Corporate Customers – Tablets must be returned or exchanged within 14 days after purchase (or shipping date, if equipment is shipped). All other devices may be returned or exchanged within 30 days after purchase (or shipping date, if equipment is shipped).
I was able to return the phone in store. Going back to Iphone
The phone was good but the support sucks!!
Im part of the club! My SM-N915T is having the same problem, and the Samsung support representative is convinced a data wipe will fix everything. Any suggestions on what to do or say?
This is really not qool. I have the same camera issue. I think it started some days after first using it.
So far, if I do a re-boot the camera comes back on-line and is fine, but the problem with that is I'm a photographer and if I need to capture something really, really quick in the moment and it fails, I could miss whatever it is I'm shooting in that moment. A big part of photography sometimes is being quick in the moment.
I absolutely LOVE my Note Edge, but this is disappointing especially since it appears to be a HARDWARE issue, and can't be fixed with a SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE update. And sending in the phone to Samsung for repair means I need to wipe the entire device because all my personal data is on the phone. I'm really upset. DAMN IT!!!!!!!

Someone said to clear the camera app's cache, but that hasn't helped me.
I'll try the S Voice trick you mention since I haven't used that app.
I had the same issue. Read about certain flashlight apps messing up the camera.
I uninstalled the Tesla Flashlight and then just rebooted my phone and camera worked again.
Not sure what is going on with Samsung. I heard this issue was a hardware problem but if that was the case, then why does it work once I uninstall an app?
Had this issue. Called tech support, and surprisingly they walked me through booting into recovery and clearing the cache. Mine focuses perfectly right off the bat and is not giving errors or freezing.
