Anyone plan to sell for an Android wear watch? - Samsung Gear 2

I see LG released a video of the G Watch. Not sure what I think about Android Wear. Mainly because I don't know what more I would want my Gear 2 to do. I feel silly in public said "Reject" or "Answer". I couldn't imagine...."Ok Google....take me.....".

They're not stylish enough yet, they need to get diamond encrusted version on the street, something with some style/bling etc.

They seem equally as stylish as a Gear.

not unless after a few months there is a serious lack of progress/app development for this watch.
there has been a steady influx of new apps available and may is the samsung app challenge with 200 apps worth of prizes, i have hopes that this month will see a big influx of capability to the gear 2/g2neo

I m hoping to have the google os on our watch asap..

I hope for the same thing. I bet a version of the OS will come for the Gear 1.

Just like the Samsung phones have the hardware options I want and can be made better w/ custom ROMs, I'm hoping the same thing can be done w/ the Gear 2 eventually. This is the reason I picked up the Gear 2 as I don't know if any Android Wear devices would come with the IR blaster that Gear 2 watches have.

I have no intentions of selling my gear 2 BUT I do plan on buying the moto 360 when it's released! :good:

Mirrorlink Tech on our phones?

Not sure where else to post this question...Does our phones support Mirrorlink?
I'm am considering purchasing the Sony XAV-601BT which can connect to a compatible android phone. What is special about this is that it litterally mirrors what your phone's screen is and can therefore play apps like Maps, pandora, Angry Birds (LOL), etc...
I now have unlimited data so it's an easy decision to make when I buy it but I don't know if SGS4G is compatible.
I am wondering the exact same thing. From what I saw from the CES video it works with Nokia and Samsung already. I wonder if we can pull the app from the samsung and use it on any phone.

It may be available on Europe ROM with its DriveLink APK.
The MirrorLink is quite young on its development and spec, the version of Mirrorlink spec .is now 1.0.1 or 1.1
I didn't see any open source for this implementation yet which may help to make this widely available on smartphone, and car infotainment system.

Gear 2 / Neo to be compatible with more Android devices - discuss here

It as been stated that the Samsung Gear 2 will also be made compatible with other manufacturers Android devices.
http://www.tizenexperts.com/2014/04...-second-quarter-2014-rollout-for-tizen-phone/
This will be a major step with getting people interested in these new wearables.

The article also says Samsung will release an Android based smartwatch later this year... I'm not even going to attempt to understand that one. The only way I can see them doing that is if they run with Android Wear just to have a device in that space (you know, the Android faithful crowd).
Yeah, the Android Wear bit did confuse me as well. Kinda glad I'm not the only one that gets confused about these things. Lol.

True. Surely Samsung should know how detrimental it is to their overall Smart phone strategy. Hopefully sooner than later

How really? They anyways control more than 50% of Android smartphone market share. I am yet to find a reason why that would hurt them. How can locking customers in their own eco system be detrimental to their profits?
Well yes they have the smartphone market, but with this restriction they will not own the wearable market using Tizen. Wearable is the new fighting ground for devices and revenue.

Not sure if Google Nexus watch will support more then just Google phones (I assume it will be all Android) but it is to be announced in July at Google I/O. It looks a lot nicer then the Gear 2. At that point I have a feeling that the Gear 2 will get phased out if they don't open up to Android by then. Mainly because Google is a super power and they will find a way to push them out of the way. The next 2 months are vital to the GG2's existence outside of the Samsung ecosystem.
Here's a list of the latest Samsung devices compatible with the Gear 2:

What do you mean by opening up to Android? This is built on Tizen, everyone knows that already.
Guess you haven't checked Samsung's financial results lately. Samsung Electronics made 7.7 billion profit last Q. That's just the electronics division. They have countless other companies controlled by same family/chaebol.
For the life of me, I don't understand why everyone is so up in arms about the gear series only working with Samsung devices. If and when the iWatch is released everyone will praise them like sheep and no one will complain that it won't work with my note 3. Samsung sells MILLIONS more phones than apple yearly. So why does everyone have an issue with it? Also, since I'm ranting again, leave Android wear for Android. Meaning I don't want Android wear on my Gear 2 neo. Android wear is nothing more than a wearable notification system. Android wear on this device would be like buying a Ferrari and swappjng the motor for an LS7 for no other reason than you like corvettes. Android wear would cripple this awesomely capable device. OK its late.... I'm done. Don't mind me. ... I'm sleepy

Nice rant. I'm with you brother. I'm a big samsung guy and love my gear. We don't know what Apple will bring to the table because they keep putting watches and phones "iPhone 6" off for release. They're so far behind the curve is ridiculous. Now. That being said the one thing you said could be wrong. The initial rumors are apple's Iwatch will run on all devices. That's what the rumors say. It would be in their best interest to do that and try and steal away Android and windows phone customers. We'll see. Maybe the iwatch will be released before the gear 3.. lol

If Apple actually allows their watch to be used with android devices.... It will signal the death of Apple. The last time they said something would work with all devices they meant 3gs and newer. Lol. But really, if it does, Steve Jobs will rise from the dead and smack Jony Ive so damn hard that his face will swell into the Google.com logo of the day.

Gear 2 works fine with my HTC One M8, just need to find the APK for the Gear Manager. Obviously certain samsung specific features like the Weather, S-Health, S-Voice wont work but other features including notifications work fine.

I followed the instructions to a T, even started from a fresh CloudyFlex 2.1 ROM install - Media Controller appears on my Gear 2 and I'm able to adjust the volume from it and see the currently playing track, but it won't let me pause/play or skip tracks. I'm using Play Music.

I'm using Sense 6 Music Play application on HTC One M8 and all the controls work (play/pause, skip tracks forward/backward and volume up/down). Could be a Google issue.
Wife's Gear 2 came in the mail, so I decided to try it myself. I was able to do take photo's and sync them to my phone and make phone calls. I didn't try the notifications or replying to them.
I'd definitely want one, but not to sure about it. If it had the Nike+ running app on it, then I'd definitely get it.

Gear 2 Tizen to Android

So a quick question here. Since we have a firmware dump for the Gear 2 would we not have the ability to port the original Gear firmware to the Gear 2? We should be able to verify the structure of the device correct? I do believe both devices have really close specs other than the CPU upgrade and I believe the Btooth is different between the 2 devices. Thanks.

Would be even more interesting to see if we could get it to run Android Wear! I'd be willing to put a cash bounty on that! (If the battery could hold up to it.)
Im sure it will be achieved in due time..

10 bucks from me.
Tizen is useless. For me anyway as someone who wants to install apps and have it communicate with other Android devices.

In the spirit of digging up an old thread. ... Android Wear on my Gear 2 would be awesome if it would run well.
+$50 for fully functional Android Wear with a respectable battery (At least one day...)
Lets see if we can get someone who knows how to do this intrested!
Seeing samsung announce a Gear with Wear so soon is a bit disheartening for me. I got the first Gear, returned it because the Gear 2 was going to be announced. Im happy with the upgrades but dissapointed because I feel like development is going to die as soon as the Moto 360 and other Android Wear devices are launched later this year.

Gear 2 / Gear Live comparison thread

To make it all a little easier for the consumer to make an informed decision I think it would be useful to build a comparison thread.
This is not for slating or making big statements about Samsung strategy, literally feature and technical comparison.
I.e music : Gear 2, ability to store locally and play through device or phone. Gear live, ability to control music playing on phone.
Please post any areas you know are 100% true and I'll update the first post.
Gear 2, has speaker & mic, Gear live has only mic.
Gear 2 has Camera / Gear Live no cam.

No speakerphone, no Gear Live, for me. The speakerphone is just too good on the Gear 2 Neo for me to get rid of it.
Yeah I mean being able to answer a call from the watch is a nice feature to keep :/

I have both but prefer my gear, simply because of the full android os (almost) thanks to the custom null rom
gear 1 has overclocking and undervolting, playstore access, on screen keyboard, full customizeable apex launcher, xposed framework and modules, extended camera record unlimited.......shall i go on
gear 2 has none of the above (as yet)

I thought about getting a Gear1, I definitely prefer Android, but decided to get the Gear 2 because development on the original Gear seemed to have all but stopped.
Hoping for development on the Gear 2, but starting to think it may never come with the new Android watches coming out.
The Neo was so cheap that I don't regret it, it will definitely hold me until a better Android option comes out

the gear 1 , hardly needs any more development, its fantastic
My Gear Live's plastic back started to crumble where the charger clips to it. My Gear 2 hasn't done that yet. Exactly the same issue as described at http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...r-lives-horrible-charging-mechanism-breaking/

[Q] Do you think the Gear 2 will work on Lollipop (Nexus 6)

I am considering purchasing a Nexus 6 when it becomes available on T-mobile but would really hate not being able to pair it with my Gear 2. I really have become addicted to it. I had been originally holding out for the Note Edge to replace my Note 3 but then was able to get one of the Nexus 9 tablets and I think that I am becoming a convert to "pure android"! Any thoughts or speculations would be appreciated. Hard facts would be even better.

I have both devices but have only paired my android wear watches so far with the N6. that being said if you are still looking for an answer let me know and we could do some testing.
Probably not... I don't even think you could get the gear to pair on non tw roms? It took awhile for them to port it to the n2 but that didn't have full compatability. The way I understood it is there more concerned with running it on the Samsung devices so it is left up to the devs and I don't think samsung has quite hit the mark on the smart watch market yet.

I have been using my gear 2 and my gear S for a while now. The nexus 6 is no different. There are a couple ways to go about it without using touch wiz. The gear 2 is actually much better considering that there is already a rooted custom rom out for it, and like i said, with that you will get about 95% functionality. I believe the weather app isnt 100% working and one more thing whixh i cant think of, but all the good stuff works perfect and even a few added features. Making/ recieving calls, ir blaster, watch faces, bluetooth, notifica.... all thats 100%. If you need any help or wan't to try it just pm me. I think this op may have found his answer already though.

Hi there. I sent you a PM about a similar request. Can you please check and let me know?
Did you guys actually figure out if it works with nexus 6?
Hi, someone managed to connect the gear 2 with nexus 6? I'm trying but, but I do not get results. If someone have a solution can post a guide?
Would appreciate it too
Please help!!
I have gone through all the methods in trying to connect my gear 2 to my nexus 6 and nothing will work!! Has anyone actually found a way?? I don't mind if some thing don't work, I just like the text and call features anyway.. Please respond to me, I love my watch and don't want to go over to a different one
any updates on this? will the samsung gear 1 OR the gear 2 watch work with the nexus 6 2014 version? thx
I tried following an XDA tread to connect Gear 2 Neo to Moto X 3 XT1575, with watch still on Tizen. No joy.
This method worked easily, but it will be an Android Wear watch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-2/development/please-help-kernel-compiling-android-t2992953
