[Q] USB OTG Cable with additional power - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Accessories

Hello, we all know that there are USB OTG Cables with extra power plug (Y cable) but those are supposed to power external device like HDD, DVD, or anything what consumes more power than our android device can handle.
But my question is: is there any USB OTG cable with additional power plug but for simultaneous tablet / phone charging while USB stick is used?
I want to watch something long (i.e. TV Show series) from USB stick via OTG cable but I cannot simultaneously charge my tablet, so if it take too long my tablet will be out of power before I stop watching.

That means I have to add a resistor only to usb connector or just need a different kernel, or both?

On the native firmware say that this support function is disabled. Personally, I use this CivZ-FLEX-ЛУЧ-REV3.6.2 + SphereXtreme, where works flawlessly with OTG + charging resistor 64.9 K.

I call BS!!!!
I have a stock firmware, and have been using all kinds of USB cables. Found the best are made from Sony/Ericson and Blackberry. Once you have a quality cable your charging issues will go away.
Right now I am using a 7 foot cable that is from a Sony. No charging issues and works perfectly.

Lately I found another MHL cable 2hich is called HDMI to Micro HDMI, and that micro HDMI plug looks exactly like micro USB. Will such cable work with Note 8 properly without additional power?

The version of MHL our device supports requires a power source external to the tablet. That means the adapter itself needs to provide the power (battery or power adapter) or can pull enough off the HDMI cable, which is usually not enough juice to run the connection.
MicroHDMI and MicroUSB are also not physically compatible (won't fit the same port and different pin outs) even if they look so much a like. MHL typically uses MicroUSB at one end and full sized HDMI at the other.

This is correct u need to put a 63-65 k resistor between ground and Id pin(pin 4 &5) on USB connector. Doesn't work on civatos 4.4.2 as of now. USB host works fine with regular USB host cable but no charging when u use a y cable. I use civatos 4.2.2 kernel also. Works on yyks note 2 4.3 port also..
I have test multiple times. I use a USB dac in car and need charging and USB host.

what resistor should i use on my sghi257m samsung galaxy s4 mini otg usb cable?

on my dads galaxy s5 Active it shows message that says: Do you wanna enable power sharing
is that OTG? on my S4mini nothing pops up

I know this thread is really old but i want to use a USB DAC so need at cable with a resistor as mentioned above but What ROM should I use now?? also is there anywhere I can buy a cable with resistor in it or do i have to do it myself?

[Q] Usb hub + charging + hdmi possible?

Hi I can't find a definitive answer but I think it is no. Anyway does anyone know if it possible to do the following?
Get TV out (HDMI) + usb host working at same time
Get usb host (hub or not) + charging the tablet
Get hdmi out + usb host + charging.
I think our tab works with the media dock for the 7" tab but can usb host be added as well? The dock for the note 2 looks amazing and should really be available for all devices like this.
Cheers

I don't know the technical terms behind this but here's the gist of why this won't work: When you are using the HDMI out or the USB OTG it puts the multi purpose connector into a proprietary mode which will I/O a protocol that works with that particular type of device. So when it is in HDMI mode it is using certain data pins to connect with the HDMI pins, and when it is in USB OTG mode it is using some of the same pins to connect to USB data pins.
It can only be in one mode or the other at once, so if you hooked up a hub to a usb OTG connector, or used a USB OTG hub, the jack on the note is going to be in USB OTG mode/protocol, and it will not recognize an HDMI adapter also connected to the hub as an HDMI device that it supports. Only storage devices, HID input devices, and samsung printers are supported on the USB OTG.
Since this is a hardware restriction, I'm 99% sure it cannot be programmed around. I think the same applies to why you cannot charge while using the USB OTG. As far as I know all the HDMI adapters require a usb power source and will somewhat charge the tablet.

Thanks for the info just what I was after, it all sounds like a bummer but not too bad. Sounds like I will need root to connect a ps3 controller then.

No need to root for ps3 controller use. My sixaxis works fine using the standard usb adapter. You'll only need to root if you want bluetooth connectivity.

OTG and Charge with Verizon Siii

Anyone know if there is a kernal, ICS or JB, that allows USB OTG access to a thumb drive and charging of the Verizon S3 at the same time?
My S3 is still running Beans ICS revision 15, and Samba share works great to feed movies from the USB to my kids nooks in the car, but would like to charge at the same time.
TIA
You have a link to the OTG cable you would use to pull that off?
Or would you get juice from a powered hub, maybe the device you are talking to?
My OTG cable only has a plug to go in the phone, and a plug for a USB device - that's it. No place to plug a cable in to add power to the equation, like the MHL cable has.
(both cables samsung OEM)
Are there aftermarket OTG cables with power input?
I really don't know how comfortable I would be using OTG with anything other then a samsung OEM cable. Have you seen this thread?

[Q] USB OTG not recognized

Hi
I have a problem with my new S5.
For my S3 i created a USB OTG+Charge cable. For this cable type a 68k resistor is soldered between the sense and GND pins of the USB port.
this cable is not recognized by the S5. When I keep the resistor open the charger is recognized.
When I short the resistor the USB harddisk is recognized.
I tried a resistor E6 decade to test variuos values. When I use 100k the cable is recognized as "power sharing cable".
Is anybody here using a USB OTG + Charge cable?
Where is the cable detection definied? Can I change it?
Best regards,
any progress ?
For my new S5 I have ordered one CY U2-166 cable.
Sellers listings talking about compatibility up to S4, and read even one user feedback that this worked for him.
When my cable arrives (eBay) I will test it, and if it works with S5, then I will post actual measurements regarding cable construction.

You are welcome, but be aware that this cable comes with dual micro USB, plus one Female USB A for regular connectivity and powering external HDD.
Female USB A this is output.
Input power comes from your charger cable ( Mini USB connector).
Here are my experiences with OTG CY U2-166 cable.
1) My Galaxy S5 this is fully capable to deliver enough electrical power for USB stick, or even my external USB 2.0 HDD (WD 160GB)
2) External USB HDD this causing a minimum of 220mA of consumption up to 430mA at extreme activity.
3) When female micro USB this is also powered by external source (charging block), this become right away the main DC power source for the external HDD.
4) If incoming DC power from female micro USB this no more active? Then Galaxy S5 takes over right away by delivering power by it self.
In summary this additional female micro USB, this works in parallel with DC output of the phone.
Personally I am very happy from those results from a cable worth less than 2$.
But what caused me mixed feelings this is Android it self, this does not recognize several partitions over a single hard disk, even if them are formatted at 32GB/Fat 32.

USB OTG Host and Charging simultaneously

Considering to use a Huawei Mediapad X2 7.0 for my 2DIN car install, since the dimensions of the tablet are nearly identical to 2DIN,
Therefore I would like to know if the device supports USB OTG Host mode and charging the battery of the mediapad simultaneously using a certain Y cable?
Thanks, much appreciated if you can give it a try!

Not sure about OTG Host cum charging combination because my understanding if you use OTG Host mode very likely you plug in a USB OTG thumb drive meaning you cannot charge at the same time.
However connecting the X2 micro USB port via standard USB cable to my laptop, I noticed I could use it as an USB device and it charges at the same time albeit not as as fast as a dedicated charging.

Yes, but not OTG.
I can confirm that, on my side, using an OTG hub with a external power plug, no way to have the device charged by external power when in OTG mode.
It is OTG or Normal charge and functions via USB.
Seems Logical because the Phone is supposed to provide the power to its USB accessories in OTG. Just my HUB has a switch that provide power to those accessories instead of the phone Itself. May-I add that switching this power button on the HUB does not function until you had unplugged & replugged the Hub in the phone after switching between the two modes. I'm afraid of the survival of the Micro USB plug of my phone, on the long run, with all those plugin, unplugin actions !!!
It's possible but with anothere Device the Nexus 7 (2012/2013) with Timurs Kernel. What's the difference of this kernel to the normal kernel, so OTG with charging is working for this device, too.

otg access to usb and charge tablet at same time

hI everyone in regard to otg using Usb and charging tablet at same time, I have a fusion5 tablet and a usb hub the kind with 3 usb hubs and a power in with a micro usb male plug. and a switch for otg or charge. Ive tried using a potentiometer to find the magic resistor value between pin 4 (the id ) and pin 5 ground of the micro plug.
(thought i had it at one point but not sure) as could play a avi file while charging) However now most of the timee either accesses the usb or charges, I can get it to do both , but stops charging after 8 seconds.
Anybody happen to know if a specific resistance value works for both charging and otg.
I have seen another schematic but havent tried it.
It doesn't sound like the micro usb otg cable to me. I built one without a resistor and mine works just fine. Have a look at your usb settings. Some devices require you select your choice: usb otg or charging.

Thanks How do I look at my usb settings?. I think I may not have the proper resistor setting as will currently provide power to usb and charge at same time for a few seconds then stops charging.. I turn resistance up it will charge , turn it down and will allow access to usb.. i think have to find that magic number inbetween.

Depending on which phone and version of Android you have, the most recent versions of Android have the USB settings under Developers Options.
The USB OTG charging works differently from phone to phone. Sometimes you must plug your charger cable and the USB device you want to connect to into the OTG cable prior to plugging the OTG cable into your phone. This way the phone detects charging and device.

Yes that is what I have been doing . In developer options under Usb default , no charge option there, only file transfer, USB tEThering, MID, PTP ,and o data transfer
I thanks. However i believe the default USB option is charge as thats what it is when i plug in USB to a powered cable.
. As I said jt works for A short time using USB and charging at same time with resistor between 45K and 68k
then either stops charging and continues usb or keeps charging but gives usb errrors or cant access usb but continues charging.
Fusion5 tablet android 9
Update this works fine with unmodified USB hub or charge power and USB on my LG k32 phone but not on the fusion ta blet.
