very slight play in home button - normal? - Galaxy Note 3 General

Just noticed my 2 week old note had very slight rotational play on the home button. It can move a couple of degrees making the left or right side higher than the other.
Is this normal?

Mine has it also. Compared to the N1 and the N2 I owned, the home button seems less sturdy. Also it reacts differently if I push it exactly in the middle or a bit offset.
Goes with the beast I guess

Ok thanks, I'm a bit anal about such things so I feel better that at least one other person has the same

Well, it's not normal, but a lot of people reported this, so...

Mine wobbles a tiny bit too but I got mine on release day.

Happens across pretty much all of the S series too, no?

may be normal, but fyi mine has no any movement, it fit very well to the position

Have a read through the rather large thread dedicated to exactly this issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471367
In short, it's a normal issue on Galaxy devices.

Thanks. Due to workload I can't read that large thread but if it's normal then I won't concern myself about it.

[Q] Build Quality

I have been reading reviews on Best Buy and Amazon, and the biggest complaint seems to be the build quality of this tablet. I was wondering what everyone's experience with it is. Does the device feel as flimsy and plasticky as I've been hearing? Thanks for any responses!
Depends on if you get a good one or bad one. Most people with a flimsy-feeling device end up having problems.
As for my experience with build quality, I'm on my 3rd TF300. The first one had a dead pixel and some light bleed but was otherwise perfect, and the second one felt a little flimsy; it ended up having a bad touscreen. So far, number 3 is flawless after a week. *knocks on wood*
Mine seems fine. The plastic is sturdy and I have no complaints. there is a tiny bit of lightbleed in the lower left corner of mine but its so small that I never notice it.

i get a little light bleed but i never notice its that small and mine feels really sturdy and for me the thickness is just right so it dont cut int your hands

Took back my first one. Had the normal amount of light bleed, but one spot was exceedingly bright compared to the rest of the screen, very irritating. It also needed the case snapped back into place in a few places around the outside edges.
The second one had light bleed, but only visible in very dark rooms. No other problems.

Not sure if I have a bad touchscreen or not but in the browser when pressing links or selecting them it gets them wrong a lot? More so in Chrome so far.
The tablet is laggy and freezes in the browser at times as well? Anyone else had this?

Try a restore? I want one of these, but the thing holding me back is the "hardend" glass. I wonder if it is actually strong and somewhat compares to gorrilla.
Thanks so much for your input guys! After reading your comments, I'm definitely going to get one! Now I can't wait until Wednesday when I get paid!
i honestly cant fault this tab mate and if you root and overclock it its mind numbingly fast all games worksoooo good and browsing is great aswell

I have owned a dozen or more tablets and so far I am enjoying this one very much. Of course plastic is plastic and can't compare to the metal versions, but unless you are using it to play ping pong, it is just fine. The textured back gives it a different feel than most, hides the fingerprints and definately had character. As far as performance, it is very nice. It is the smoothest running tablet I have had next to my Galaxy Tab 10.1. The speed with the Quad Core is noticeable and I have attained Quadrant scores of 5400 compared to my overclocked Galaxy at 3800. Well worth the money.

I have the exact same problem and I'm using 3G version.
I was thinking to take my note 10.1 to warranty replacement.
Edit: also when using finger to draw, straight lines are inaccurate, see picture.

With your finger rhat is supposed to happen. Normal capacitive touchscreens aren't as accurate. The S-Pen is using different tech and is not communocating with your normal touchscreen. The pen should be pixel accurate.

That. Doesn't. Help. How hard is it.
I actually went back to the store and the show model and a new model which he got fresh out of the box for me all had the same issue. The Note 10.1 is a poorly made tablet. The pen should be pixel accurate, which it isn't. I actually got an ipad mini instead as Apple offers the best normal capacitive touchscreens on the market.
Hello my friends and welcome to samsung.
Here is how "well" the disgitisers of my note 10.1 N8000, grey, italian with 16GB + 3G, work.
FINGERTOUCH DIGITISER:
S-PEN DIGITISER:
I noticed the issue of the s-pen digitiser first, and just like you, went back to the store to check if the other notes they had there had the same issue. Result: all had the same issue. All in the same screen position. Knowing that the s-pen digitiser is very sensitive to electromagnetic field, and after watching this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUyI74c0DhE&feature=youtube_gdata_player I came to the conclusion that the issue is due to poor screening of the s-pen digitiser. In fact I bet that what we see is the field distortion caused by the electrical current flowing along the vertical battery wires running underneath the screen in that position. That's why the issue appears identical, at identical position on all the notes, because it is an hardware issue due to how badly this tablet was engineered.
The other issue, the one of the fingertouch digitiser, I have discovered it today, after having noticed that scrolling in my tablet was not uniform if i was sliding my finger slowly on the screen, and after having asked myself why so often I was missing to hit the virtual keys on the websites, even though I could swear to have tapped precisely in that position. Well... it appears that our nice friends at samsung equipped our beloved tablet with a digitiser with a ridicoluos resolution of around 40 x 25... (!!!!!!!) This means that we can forget forever precision touch input and smooth scrolling.
I was quite happy of this tablet when i bought it. Now I feel so pissed off that I would like to throw this piece of **** out of the window.
Another thing I noticed is that the Galaxy tab 2 10.1 of my friend does not have the fingertouch digitiser issue. Looks like in order to earn even more money than usual, samsung have introduced this feature into us starting from the latest, very acclaimed note 10.1....
wow....
kind regards, Luca.

now try that but slower and you'll see the squiggles
that's true!!!!! it's like if there's a magnetic interference along a diagonalline in the center of the screen, going from top-left to bottom-right
but only if you draw slowly on that points
Well, yes but not exactly. The inteference is vertical, and as I said, I bet my bullocks it's caused by the battery wires.
The resulting effect is just like when you put a paper sheet over a coin, and you scratch over it with a pen (never done it when you were a child?). As you know, you get the image of the coin underneath.
The "scratches" here are the oblique lines that we draw slowly, and the "coin" is the field distortion caused by the electrical current in one of the wires (of which there are four, but for one reason or another, one must cause more interference than the others).
This being a magnetic induction interference, it affects only the s-pen digitiser.
The issue of the capacitive, fingertouch digitiser (or whatever its name is, sorry but I am not native english), I guess is simply due to the fact that it has a very small resolution, due to samsung deliberately wanting to piss us off

Why would I do that if I want a straight line? Pen on paper it's the same, if you go slow enough you will not go straight...
I'm not arguing with anyone, you may be right regarding the interference, but I don't think this device was made to replace a dedicated pro digitizer.
And I did get the general impression that on other tablets the touch is a little more accurate than this one, just to be clear, I'm not saying that is the perfect tablet because I've got one lol. A used 3 tf700 for a week and the screen resolution and touch responsivnes are great, but otherwise is a P.O.S.
I think this note is a decent enough gadget for the price.

It also might not be the display itself. I got my S-Pen wet and when it dried it started to behave erratically. Sometimes it would work perfectly and other times it would be off from the position I had it placed on the screen. It was random. Replacing the pen fixed it.
Don't have this issue with pen or finger using Lecture Notes on Korean made GT-8013 bought from Amazon.

[Q] Finger Tracking Not as Smooth as S-Pen Tracking

Just got my Note 10.1 32G Wifi (N8013) a week ago. I just noticed a minor issue while using it last night, and now that I know about it, it bugs me.
While using the stock Internet browser or gReader, for example (or really anything, it doesn't matter), when I use my finger to slowly scroll the page up or down, I see something strange. The screen doesn't always track 1:1 with my finger. It's hard to explain. When I move my finger slowly across the screen, every inch or so, the screen will lag behind my finger just ever so slightly, and when I move my finger just a bit more, the tracking will catch up to where it's supposed to be. And then if I move my finger about another inch, the same thing happens again, repeat. You really only notice it if you're moving your finger on the screen slowly.
The interesting thing is, I don't see this issue with the S-Pen. The S-Pen always tracks 1:1, even when moving it very slowly across the screen.
I downloaded the Multitouch Test app from Google Play, and you can really notice it with that app as well. The direction isn't just up and down, it's also side to side.
I don't have the charger plugged in (I read about that issue). I'm on the rooted/deodexed 4.1.2 ROM with only the Unlimite MultiWindow Apps mod.
Anybody else seeing this?
Yep. Noticed that too. Maybe your hands are very dry. Try to use more pressure. Works for me.

Getting a sore thumb?

I love this phone, but the larger size (coming from a GS2) definitely puts a strain on my thumb as I move it up and down the screen, especially to hit the buttons. I don't have small hands, but I don't have large hands either, and this is definitely causing some discomfort after heavy usuage.
So, in case anyone else is experiencing this is well, a nice solution is to install Pie Control from the play store and configure it to provide home, back and menu buttons on the sides of the screen when you swipe. It works great, just takes a while to get into the habit, and it's much quicker and easier than moving all the way to the bottom to press the buttons. It's completely configurable as well.
Lol, gave me a chuckle.
I had a similar situation when I got my s3 coming from an s1. Eventually I got used to the larger screen and just naturally started holding the phone differently. My s4 isn't a great deal bigger than my s3 but it is noticeable. You will all get used to the size in no time at all, I promise.

I had a similar problem going to s3 but I have small hands. I had to get treated for an injury at the base of my palm which was probably due to one-handed use. I kind of avoid using my thumb for scrolling or pressing buttons while holding the phone one-handed. I just use the index finger of the other hand to touch the screen. As a general rule, if you have discomfort using something, don't keep doing it, or take a rest, or find another way to do it. I learned the hard way

I tried using Pie Control for a while but it became a bit of an annoyance whenever you didn't want to touch it. Another thing you can do, if your S4 version supports it, is to install an AOSP-based ROM and turn on the soft/virtual keys so that they appear above the capacitive buttons. Then turn off the capacitive buttons and their LED (the hack is found in a Google search). This makes reaching for the buttons easier but at the expense of shorter screen space.
There will be insensitive people here who will scoff at and mock your problems (happened to me before too, just for saying I had small hands), but RSI is a real serious issue and is relevant to this phone, especially as these flagship devices are not going to get any smaller. Not everyone here has large hands.
Anyways I think this should be moved to the Q&A section.. ?

left to right? meaning on landscape, its normal because its the sliding behaviour.
but when it wiggles on both sides when in landscape. then its the sliding mechanisms fault.

yes. common problem for users, i guess the engineers didn't taught it through
Same problem here... Very annoying but don't notice it with the case which is always on. Can't really send it back to China with a custom rom and get a new unit.
Just received mine and same issue. Not sure if I want to return it or not. I'm concerned it could get worse over time.
...its a slider phone...it slides
Haven't noticed that it gets worse yet. Constantly fiddling with the slider. Using a case you don't notice it at all.
Honestly can't believe this is actually a topic, it's a slider phone and for the ability to slide there can't be any friction (basic physics). So of course there will be slight wobble as is the nature of the design.
The Honor Magic 2 seems to slide without any wobble.

Hi,
Right there in France, my Mi Mix 3 wobble out of the box. A gap can be guessed between screen and body when hold through the light, may be half a millimeter.
Many people outlined this on Xiaomi forum, but not everybody knows this, others found it few weeks after use while fixation might loose a little.
Nevertheless, right now I can compare my Mi Mix 2 and my Mi MIX 3. The new screen is so gorgeous compared to the more yellowish and a bit washed Mi Mix 2 screen, and better balanced with its elongated shape. I am already in love.
