Installed Kies... Update process starts but Kies crashes. Anyone else have this issue? I'm currently trying to unroot to see if that makes a difference.
Edit: Exact issue is: MSC.Thunder.FirmwareUpdate has stopped working.
Does it regardless if I choose to backup or not the contacts and data.
Edit 2: Unroot changes nothing.
Edit 3: Doing a factory reset on the device doesn't help either. WTF?

Ok so I just got back from writing an exam and will try to reinstall Kies. I tried 2 times to update through my computer this morning and once on my wife's PC (She has a Captivate as well)
All 3 attempts it says that Its downloaded the update but then it fails when it tries to install. Now remember I've not rooted or anything, so i think that there might be a newer version of kies or something...going to look now.
But anyways it tries to update it says a bunch of stuff like: You phone Jsomething1 and the update is supposed to be Jsomething2...I dont get it.
Remember I dont hack or mod phones in the slightest, so I have no clue what this J1 (mine) and the update of j2 is...?
The update is big though, takes a few minutes to download and I have a 16mps download speed...

I'm with Rogers with an AT&T Captivate (Rooted and Cognition 2.3b6). Will I be able to update my device to it? I much prefer the Rogers software than AT&T's. I don't care if I have to use Odin or erase everything.

What ROM are you on ?
Did you put the phone in recovery mode when you have the first pop up menu ?

Did you put your phone in Recovery mode like the first pop up is asking ? (Unplug usb cable from phone (not the computer), power off the phone, Hold vol up/down button and plug usb cable. You should now be in download mode (black/yellow screen with a shovelling droid)

Stock ROM from Rogers
No, not recovery mode.
PC runs W7-32 for what it's worth.
In the meantime, I did some research on the error I mentioned above.
It appears it's a very common issue with KIES.
There are a few workarounds.
So far, I tried the "SIM-out" method and it doesn't work for me.
Next, I'm trying the regedit method.
Will report on results.
@silvertag: your upgrade worked fine or you haven't tried yet?

Nowhere you have to check Kies server to know it's been released. There is still no confirmation from Rogers last i checked.

Yes it worked fine you HAVE to put the phone in download mode before you start downloading the update or it will fail at the upgrade part.

OMWTFBBQ!!1 Firmware Update??

I noticed that it automagically started updating the firmware when I connected my sidekick to Kies. Should I update? Or will that prevent me from being able to root my phone?

Yeah just use the vibrant drivers and enabe usb debug mode.

for some reason when i put it in kies mode it says my device isn't supported (with debugging off) but when ever i turn usb debugging on it connects as mass storage with out an option for kies mode and then kies say my device isnt in the proper mode

Due to the lack of of an answer I am going to create a comprehensive tutorial on how to install the necessary drivers to recognize your device, and update it if so feel so inclined. It was actually extremely easy. This is going to be a video, and I am going to post it as a new thread.

To satisfy any curiosities I want to perform a full dump of this firmware before I update.

lol if im correct youtube takes some time to render and process the video before it can be watched in its best res. i can watch your video now in 720p i think you just had to give it some time lol so no stress. but thanks for the vid im checking it out now

okay.. i think this thread was a mistake or i read it wrong .
first off i wasnt connecting to kies correctly because i wasnt using samsung kies mini i was using samsung kies.
second the firmware update you are talking about was updating your version of kies it wasnt updating your phone. the version of kies mini that you say to download in the video wasnt the latest kies mini so it updated when you first opened it (same for myself) now that its updated and i have kies open it says there is no upgrade available for my device.
if by some chance kies did update your phone check to see if the build is still KD1 , if it isnt then your phone was upgraded. not likely though

Use the 1 clik uninstaller by blu. Works like a dream, just tried it today =)

So there is an update firmware? Anyone tried it? There are several issues with the phone and if there really is an update I am curious as to what has been remedied.

Tizen Mod offers a lot of custom features you won't find right out of the box. Provides better battery life and a few other hacks. I don't believe this will void warranty as you can go right back to stock via Odin and haven't seen a trip counter, knox, etc.

As I've said on the other thread there's definitely a counter of some sort. Whether Samsung pays attention to it or nor is another story.

strace /usr/bin/cordon_server . I've found it writes to the param partition all while logging scary things such as "device has been ROOTED" (caps included). It also links with OpenSSL.
(And I suspect that there may be some, slightly more hidden 'tricks').

Interesting. I can no long pair my gear 2 with my s4. Do you have a link to the stock firmware Odin file? I want to revert back to stock to see if I can pair my watch with my phone again.

I obviously cannot redistribute firmware files. Either way reflashing stock firmware won't reset the counter. But I doubt the counter would be causing pairing issues to begin with.

Ok so I was able to download the stock firmware from sammobile. Just needed to sign up to download. But since then I still cannot pair my gear 2 with my phone and have no clue what can be causing this issue.
I have unrooted and reverted back to stock gear 2...no go.
I have uninstalled xposed framework, wiped delvik cache and cache....no go.
I have no idea how to get this up and running again and this watch is only 1 month old.
How can i figure out why the bluetooth pairing is not working anymore. The pairing sequence just hangs and later says" Failed to Connect to your gear via Gear manager. Refer to Manual for more information."
someone please tell me what am I doing wrong or what the hell is going on with this damn device. I am at my wits end with this.

If you've reflashed the Gear plus reverted to factory settings, the the answer regarding what is causing your issue is clear: your phone.

i downloaded framaroot from a page "androidapkgratis.com/2014/07/ framaroot-v191-rootea-con-un-solo-click" all ok, cell rooted. but two days after that, from the night to the morning, the cell was dead, totally. cant put it on recovery mode, cant switch it on. any idea? ive downloaded kdz, but dont recognize the cell, as its off. thanks in advance.

I have to say but never, EVER, download a modified APK that has interaction with root.
Use the official Framaroot app.
Also, for your phone, try to take it to the nearest service centre for that particular brand and see if they can do something to turn it on or reflash it.

can anybody tell me what does this archive ive downloaded really have done to my phone? my antivirus prevented me, but i thought it was because it hacks sth. tell you becouse it may involve some risk to download it. if you do, may share any idea about to solve the problem it doesn boot?

Seeing that your phone can't be simply booted, you should try booting it into Recovery. That way you can try to flash the stock firmware. Or boot into Download mode, so you can flash your phone using your computer.

I have a P40 Lite 5G and i was trying some Videos from YT but every time se thame problem.
LZ Play doesn't work wih this EMUI.
I think that is a Global problem with this new EMUI.

Just bought a P40 lite 5g myself on ebay and I'm having the same problem. Like an idiot I updated EMUI when i first started the phone, and now I can't roll it back or install google services as LZ Play won't work. Really nice phone, I think I will just sell it though and get a Xiaomi Pocophone F2 instead. Too much of a headache messing about for days with these youtube video instructions that don't work.

OK, try this
make sure you have:
-no sim card inserted
-language is set to english
-factory reset (because I see you have previously ran a manual installation and services and other components are installed as normal apps) - or delte them manually
-connect to wifi
-restore the "chinese app" using hisuite
put DATE back to 20.06.2020 and disable automatic time
run the "chinese app" and try again
I'll retry with the procedure because I need to FR anyway for the development, can't remember if that was the message I got (your device is not supported when translated)

The error mesage says that the device is not compatible (trabslate with Google from Chinese)

1. EMUI (closed Backdoor)
or
2. Unsupported Device

No, this will not fix your phone sadly, it relies on LZplay as all of them, LZplay was that "backdoor" that allowed it. You can try to find some downgrade rom or tutorial (maybe this one I linked, can't be for sure since I have the older emui)

With the HiSuite i can't go back toa a previous Version of the EMUI.
So i understand that in the moment i'ts difficult to find a solution.
Today i will try it a few Times with the solution you told me yesterday.

After some tries today still the same.

Yeah, sadly you can't do anything there, unless there is a firmware (older one). One could try downloading adb, running "adb logcat -f /sdcard/log.txt" , running lzplay and after the error pops up press Ctrl-c in command prompt. Maybe the log will tell more
