My gear 2 only seems to charge on Samsung chargers fast or plugged into a pc. If I use another type of charger, even the 2amp ones, it charges slow and doesn't even indicate that it is charging.

I am wondering if it is meant to be charged fast... The charger that comes with the watch is only a 0.5A one!

Yeah, that is what I thought, I tried some others and am getting the same result. I used my charger for my Galaxy Note 10.1 and it charged just fine.

Even though you found a charger that is fast charging it, I am wondering if maybe it is safer not to do this. The fact that the watch came with a 0.5A charger would suggest it may have issues charging fast (for example, over-heating concerns which may shorten the life of the watch). I could be completely wrong, but the difference to Samsung in cost with a 0.5A or 2A charger is probably pennies...so they must have done this intentionally.

Is that what's going on? I was wondering what the heck was wrong with my charger!
Yup, the car charger still charges my old HTC, even with the Samsung cable... so there's definitely something different inside the charger...
I have a 2A usb car charger with generic cable to charge my devices. It's nothing special, but it works with my S4. Hope that helps.

Hmmm will have to look into getting a decent 2A charger then and NOT modifying it...
So I opened up my car charger and un-modded it back to original and it works like a charm now
I've got a 1A Belkin car charger and it seems to overload after a while when charging my gs4.
The green light on it blinks and my phone makes that sound when you plug in the charger.
Takes a while for it to happen but gets more frequent the longer you have it plugged in.
The charger works fine with my gf's nexus 4.

I'm using the Motorola charger (big blue circle). Got it for my Razr Maxx a year or so ago (I've gone through like 4 phones since then) and it works wonderfully. It's the best micro-USB car charger I've ever seen. Coiled cord, huge blue light (but not too bright since it's an ambient-style light), and charges quickly.

Seriously, the best car charger I've ever owned. 950mA is also one of the highest car chargers I've used.
I used to have that same motorola charger but I just switched to this one by SPIGEN: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0069EGLFY/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It charges at the same amperage as the stock wall charger that came with the S4. I use the Galaxy Charging Current app to check.

Different USB cables do pass different current even if using the same charging main. From tests I've done so far, a generic 3 ft USB 2.0 cable I randomly purchased online only allowed around 400 mA. An old Blackberry Torch 9810 cable allowed around 1200 mA. Original cable that came with the S4 allows 1900 mA. These numbers are from using the original wall charger main that came with phone.

Is it just me? Is anyone else getting bad charge time from their pre-packaged Samsung charger? We use our Tab 2 10.1 and Note 10.1 (original) with the same Samsung charger. But, it has begun to charge slower and slower until we actually have to leave it overnight just to charge it. And even then it isn't even fully charged! This is a recurring issue with many people here and i haven't been able to find a solution. Maybe it's the rom... or its the charger.

Then there might be an issue with your Charging adapter.......it shouldn't take that much long..... Wall charging only takes 3-4 hours to fully charge the tablet for me...My tablet is almost similar to yours(4000 maH) and yours may be 4450 maH(if its tab 3 8.0),,,so you can consider 5-6 hours in worst case.

It is Tab 3, 7". I thought the same thing. I tried charging it with my Samsung Galaxy 3 phone - charging adapter but still the same.
I bought it in Dubai. I won't be able to go there until May. It has 1 year warranty. Thanks lokesh
my tab had been charging 100% within 5-6 hrs in wall mount... later i tried many kitkat roms and due to problem in bluetooth now i back to stock based rom... i tried 8 different roms in 5 days time.. and started to facing the delay in charging from the second day itself... many times even i work in my tab with charging... but still charge was draining rather than charging... even after switching to my old rom i am facing the same problem... the battery drains instead of charge...even when i keep it untouched it takes a lot more time to chrge, say for 10 hrs .... does that mean the adapter is messy or the rom related issue
Reviving the dead
Came across this thread looking for a solution to an extremely slow charging Tab 3 8.0. I also have an S5 as a personal phone and an S3 as a work phone. The Tab charged at about 2-3% per hour on all of the chargers. I plugged it up to my wife's Motorola Moto G charger and went from 65% to 100% charge in about an hour.
It's insane that the manufacturer of the device can't make a charger that works properly, but whatever.
If you're having this issue, try a different (respected) third party charger.
Finally, I guess I found the solution
Yup, It's not the device, not charger, and not the ports
Well, it's the cables,
Loose/Bad/Thin cables generally aren't able to transfer high rates of Amps, thus, a infinite time to charge.
I noticed my Tablet is having the same issue, so I plugged the original charger with it's original cable into my phone, and measured the current, my phone usually charges at 700ma, however, I noticed the current going up to 700ma for few moments, and then down to 400, again to 700, and down to 400, this made me think that this was a bad cable
And you ask, why Galaxy S3 and other chargers weren't able to charge the tablet quickly, it's simple, because these cables are cheaper cables that can't transfer 2A for the tablet, use a better 2A designed cable, it will charge your tablet
My tip, buy the shortest cable you can and charge with that. I have compared charging times with so many devices and come to the conclusion the shorter the cable the shorter the charging time. Everytime! A 20cm cable will dramatically reduce charging time!
Gday All,
I realise that this topic has been mentioned in a few threads, but from what I could find, there is no definiteve fix.
Is there a way to disable this so that a non-genuine charger will work once the screen turns off, or if I was to root the device, is there then a way to do it.
Please dont flame me, I'm a total newb to android, and I dont mind admitting that.
Bit dissapointed that Samsung has sunk to this.
TIA!
Not sure what issues you are having but I have been using a few different chargers without issue. Which exact charging method are you trying to use (cable type, charger type, charger rated output voltage and amperage)?
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk
The problem isn't that the charger is 3rd party.
The problem is that the device requires a 5.1V 2A charger or higher.
Anything lower than that is simply not powerful enough. You can find these specs in small lettering on the charger. Most cheap 3rd party launchers are 5V 1A.

I was one of the ones having problems with it needing to have the screen on to charge. It was a problem with the charger (yes, it was marked as a high amperage charger), changed to a different one (Anker 40W 5 port) and it's working fine.

Huge second on the Anker. I love that charger by the way. With various devices I would get irritated with some refusing to charge on certain chargers (my BlackBerry Bold in particular). I've since switched to the Anker 5 port 40 Watt and no longer worry about which cable I'm reaching for. Every device gets the power it needs with no fuss.

That's because the retention rate of the S3's charger is higher than that of a generic cheap 3rd party one. Where the S3 charger actually delivers 0.8-1A, the cheaper ones usually average around 0.5A.
This is why charging over a usb 2.0 port without any power boosts also (usually, there have been some exceptions) doesn't work.
I usually charge mine with my Note 3 or S5 charger, as the three are all the same charger.

fast charge is generally a feature that needs to be built into a custom kernel
Don't know about you but my S5 chargers incredibly fast compared to my SIII and Nexus 7. Even with fast charge on.
Agree, my S5 charges at 1.2A given a charger capable of this, and that is fast.

Yes, the S5 charges at 2amp. (Kernel reports 1800mah)
If your phone is reporting that it charges any slower than that, it's an energy deficiency of the charger supply, bad cable, or bad micro usb connection.
I use an app which reports charging current. With a standard micro usb cable i never morw than 1200 mA (and about 450 mA from a PC/mac usb plug)
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
While it's true that the phone ships with a 2A charger, the charging current does not exceed 1.2A AFAIK.
Gotta love MicroUSB 3.0.
It already charges from under 10% to 100% in a mere 2 something hours (bundled charger and USB 3 cable). You want something much faster than that???

Yes I think in the end it is something around this current. What the apps report is more "charging in 1800mA mode" and not really charging with continous/real 1800mA. If you like to know more exactly what the current is you may write down time/percentage values for e.g. every 5% of battery power starting with an nearly empty battery. Then you can draw an line of the effective loading current.
With the original charger you should be able to get stable 1800mA but if the loading circuit of the S5 really goes this high I did not check.
I believe it peaks at 1800mah with the screen off. It is 1200 mah limited when screen is on.
Sorry to awaken this post.
As most of you, my S5 reported charging at stable 1200 mA with wall charger, probably 1800mA when turned off.
But, I can say a custom rom unleash battery charging in the same conditions as stock rom. I get stable 1800 mA with LineageOS, even screen on, with original charger and usb 2 or usb 3 cable.
Hey guys,
So got my S8+ and so far very happy. I'm having an issue of sorts, where if I use the original wall adaptor and a 3rd party cable such as Belkin, my phone says it's charging but the percentage stays the same. I've tested this with a brand new Belkin USB-C 1.8M cable and a USB micro cable using the included adaptor.
It was on 8% when I went to bed, and 8% when I first woke up. Changing the settings to disable fast charging made them work, but this seems like it could generate a lot of problems for people who don't even know about fast charging, especially as it's on by default.
Anyone else noticed this?
Sounds like a faulty cable.

I originally thought that, but surely can't be the case if I have two cables doing it? And if it charged fine without fast charging, is that still a possibility? As the only thing that changes is voltage I believe?

Your belkin cables are ok BUT not compatible with fast charging. I THINK the phone must talk some way to charger to enable fast charging but your cables are not transmitting that info to the cgarger.
I advise you to buy original samsung spare cables.

I know this, but generally if the device detects that the cable is not compatible with fast charging, it falls back to normal charging. That's how it was with my S7 Edge.
I'm just imagining all the people reporting their phone as faulty when it's not.
