[Q] Unable to get RUU 3.18 - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I'm trying to install cm 11 and I can't seem to get the 3.18 RUU to my phone. I have root, superCID, unlocked bootloader and s-off. Here is my bootloader screen currently.

When I attempt to run the exe file for 3.18 I just get an error message from windows with this:
>SetupNew\setup.cpp (140)
PAPP:
PVENDOR:

 @Windows Vista Service Pack 0 (6000)
IE Version: 9.11.9600.17041
When I attempt to use fastboot to flash the zip file it returns one of two messages.
Either: FAILED (remote: 24 parsing android-info fail)
Or: FAILED (remote: 02 data length is too large)
Any help would be appreciated. I'm currently running 4.1.1 HatkaXL v4.7.1 with HTC sense 4+ and would much rather have a newer ROM with more features on my phone.

I think u have to run it twice. I know I had to

I have tried running it multiple times and it gives me the same message. I even get a windows message that tells me that "File.exe was not installed properly" and asks me to reinstall using recommended settings or this file was installed properly.

Good question. I have no answer. But I'm sure someone will post why and how

I appreciate the input anyways.
As far as the zip, I first tried the exe file from the OTA and RUU collection thread then tried downloading the OTA zip file and using fastboot to install it on the device. Neither option works.
Also, I've already tried running as administrator and running in compatibility mode and that doesn't work either. I am currently running Windows 7 ultimate.

size of the Ruu?
i downloaded the Ruu from the THC webpage for my at&t one x ,in th webpage says that the Ruu size was 784 mb and the one that i downloaded was 320 mb, i deleted it and redownload and make sure that the size is 784mb, it works, but now i have a bigger trouble, the device is stuck with the htc logo in the screen and the pc sayis sendind but doesnt progress help

You can't just flash an OTA (the zip), that isn't going to work. An OTA is an incomplete system. Plus you flash it through stock recovery, not fastboot. I think you might need to slow down and do a bit of research before going any further, just trying things willie nillie without actually knowing what you're doing is going to lead to you bricking your phone.
Are you running the RUU as an administrator?

Yes, as I stated in my post previously I've already tried running as an administrator and it turns up with the same error.
I have been working on this for a while and honestly the only reason I tried doing that was because the research and instructions I've tried through many many threads here regarding this problem have not worked. Otherwise I wouldn't have posted with the question.

Ok, but it doesn't state anywhere that you can flash an OTA on its own. Or that you flash an OTA via fastboot. My point being that trying things that aren't documented (and without knowledge of what you're doing) almost always lead to someone bricking their phone, and then that person realising after the fact that they shouldn't have been trying those things without proper knowledge. There are two ways to learn, one is slow and takes a lot of work, the other is very fast and expensive. I'm trying to save you from the latter.
Anyway, back to your main issue. You actually didn't state anywhere in your OP that you were running the RUU as an administrator, that's why I asked. Are you sure that the RUU fully downloaded correctly? Does the program even start up? Or are you greeted with errors as soon as you try to open it? What's the file size?

Well I appreciate you looking out, and after reading through a lot of the threads on here I know you are more versed in the technical aspects of this than I. I'm sure you have to deal with that a lot on here, but just so we are both on the same page, that isn't the case in this situation. My phone is still fine, I'm just trying to figure out why this won't work.
As for the main issue, I'm apologize, you are correct. I didn't state that in my main post. It was in response to another user. I can't say I'm 100% sure because i haven't checked, but I have downloaded the same file from about 3 different locations on this forum and have tried each multiple times with the same results. The file name is "RUU_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_Cingular_US_3.18.502.6_Radio_0.24p.32.09.06_10.130.32.34_release_signed_With_Partial.exe". The file size of all 3 of them are 79.4MB. Just for some extra information, I've also tried the 5.18 RUU exe file which is 621 MB file name is "HTC_One_X_RUU_5.18.502.1.exe." I have only downloaded that file from one source and only one time so I can't verify against another file size on that. Although that file returns the same error message as the others. Do you think I could have corrupted downloads?
And again I appreciate the help. I'm sorry if it seems I'm over-explaining things. I just want to give any possible information that could be relevant to the issue.

After doing a little more looking on the size of the files, I have discovered that for whatever reason, my google chrome browser was not fully downloading the file no matter what source I was downloading from. I downloaded the file using IE from a link you provided in another thread (which I tried on chrome but did not complete fully) and now have the full file downloaded. I am currently running the RUU on my computer and the process seems to be going smoothly. Thanks for the heads up on that, something so simple that I didn't even consider due to having downloaded the same file multiple times from different sources and didn't even begin to suspect my web browser. Haha. I will reply here again with the results after I've tried flashing the ROM to my phone. Thanks again for the input timmaaa!

I wasn't really talking about what you're specifically doing right now, I meant trying things without a proper knowledge of them in general. Continue doing that and the chances of a brick happening are fairly high.

Chrome can be a bit funny like that sometimes, especially when you're downloading exe files, it automatically flags them as dangerous and screws the download. You can recover the file through the Chrome download menu I think. Anyway, it looks like you're probably sorted out now though which is great, let us know about your progress and feel free to ask any questions if you're not sure about something. There are some really valuable links in my signature too.

[Q] Rollback RUU from 1.85 to earlier

So like several folks on here. I jumped the gun and installed the latest 1.85 RUU I know bad idea...... since I'm on stock with no root.
1) Does anyone know a what to trick the RUU install package to force it to install an earlier version.
2) If someone has the time, I'm willing to give access to my phone to try to figure out root for 1.85 or a trick for the RUU package.
Again like a lot of folks, I'm approaching that return window and would love to have this fixed.
I'm willing to try to help any way possible.
Thanks

Dude, just install CWM, then download the super su package and flash out on cwm, ban you got root
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
This has already been discussed at length, and doesn't need yet another thread. There is currently no method to root on 1.85 with stock CID.
This is one of the recent discussions, and it seems like a couple people in your same boat are trying some things. Jump into that discussion, if you like.

Can't do that unless the bootloader is unlocked. OP wasn't entirely clear, but it sounds like this is not the case.

That's my point. I understand there currently isn't a way to root on 1.85, I was simply inquiring to see if maybe there was a way to roll back to a previous version and then go from there. I've been following most of the threads on this but thinking out loud, there has to be way to revert back, I'm just not smart enough to figure it out and I've tried dozens of times over the past few day.

Let me clarify then: there is currently no way to root or install a previous (lower version number) RUU.
Is it possible? Sure, virtually everything is possible. But no way has been found yet.
With no sdcard slot there just isn't a way. If we had sdcard we could make a goldcard and install older firmware. When the one x ships with the 1.85 or higher firmware and there's no choice but to root it I'm sure an exploit will be found. It will also be rootable if at&t ever allows bootloader unlocking on htcdev

HTC ONE S - Unbranding process

Hi all,
I've got a HTC ONE S that has Vodafone (UK) branding on it but the phone is unlocked so it takes my Orange sim card. What's the best method to remove the Vodafone branding? I just want a generic handset.
Thanks in advanced.
Are you talking about the actual physical branding or the software branding?. A simple flash to a 3rd party Rom would "debrand" your device.

Thanks for that. I updated the phone to JB the other night so will these be compatible?
Also - I tried a ROM last night and it wasn't the right file type but I wiped my old OS. But as a guide told me to make a backup, I did and restored without any problems but lost SuperSU - Is this normal? Shall I just re-install?
Downloaded one but unsure how to install them as they're EXE files. What state does my phone need to be in? It also says
From:
Image Version
3.16.161.9
To:
Image Version:
1.78.401.2
Error [155]: UNKNOWN ERROR
I've tried locking my bootloader again it says 'RELOCKED' but still says TAMPERED
EDIT - In recovery screen also, it says at the top
***TAMPERED***
***UNLOCKED***
Is this normal?
I am getting no where with this and it's becoming very annoying!
I've tried reading through forum and forum, YouTube videos and various different methods!
All I want is my phone to be STOCK and it's taking me over 4 hours this morning to get no where!

Really strange that it says relocked/tampered and tampered/unlocked in recovery...
You might've gone wrong with the relocking of your phone, undoubtedly have you checked this out.
Can you tell me what you've ben trying so far?
And another thing: if you updated to JB, these RUUs might not work any longer since they are ICS mostly.
The best thing for you is to go by a custom ROM, it is at least the easiest thing to do now.
You can always fiddle around to restore to STOCK but as you've experienced yourself already, it isn't easy.
Here's a link to what I used when I bricked my phone, it might be of some help.

Error 131 means the RUU is incompatible with your CID. Do you know it? Not sure where to find cid specific RUU but searching XDA will always yield answers.
Lock phone, fastboot usb connect phone, find right RUU and open the .exe

Read this article carefully. It will give you an insight in how difficult the process we're doing is:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/facepalm-s-off-for-htc-one-s-one-xl-and-droid-dna/
You said you downloaded the latest OTA right? This article states that with the latest OTA update we are no longer able to SUPERCID the phone, meaning only CID-specific RUUs can be applied. I can't find any RUUs for your CID, so this might just be the end of the road for this plan.
So maybe installing a ROM similar to stock might be the only good solution for you.

Can you recommend me a good one to try? One that's as close to stock as possible that doesn't have any problems. This is my 3rd HTC device and the last 2 devices always had problems, hence why I wanted stock.
EDIT - Also, what steps do I need to take to get it back to before I rooted it? Completely factory before I installed anything.
Still getting nowhere.
I've even managed to change my CID to 11111111 from the Vodafone branded one using HEX editor. Still getting the same error's when I'm trying to install .ZIP and .EXE's when the bootloader is RELOCKED.
Could no one else shed some light on this for me please?
CID is now HTC__001 and still get the same error messages!
How hard can it be to remove a service providers software from a phone?
I would really appreciate someones help - I've tried pretty much all I can try!
Could I install an Android version lower than what I've got? I don't mind it not being JB as it's pretty much the same as ICS!

[Q] HTC ONE X ATT stuck!! help Please!!

I have recently tried to flash my htc one x att android version 4.1.1 to the latest cyanogenmod 10.1. After i flashed it, i rebooted my device and got stuck in the htc logo. So i tried to restart it, even tried to factory reset. My phone doesnt even have a rom on it, so i cant do anything. my bootloader is unlocked and i am S-ON. I have TWRP recovery installed though. I tried to flash multiple roms, but cmd just says cannot load "file name".img. I cant flash anything right now. Please help, thank you!!
What firmware and hboot versions are you on? And where are you downloading the ROMs?

Also, you mentioned command said "cannot load filename.img" which seems weird, ROMs are in a zip format. Exactly how are you trying to flash the ROM?
And, did you factory reset in bootloader? If you did you've corrupted your sd card/internal storage and you'll need to format it.

Ok, firstly it looks like you're downloading the ROM for the wrong device. M7 is not your phone, your phone is Evita. So that's your first mistake. Find Evita and download that.
To format your sd card, go into recovery, then select mount, connect your phone to the pc, and mount usb storage. Now using Windows you need to go to my computer or device manager, find the drive that popped up when you mounted, and format it to fat32 format.
Next, fastboot flash boot boot.img does not flash a ROM, it only flashes the boot.img. You need to flash the ROM through recovery. First extract the boot.img from the ROM on your pc and put it in your fastboot folder on your pc. Then copy the entire ROM zip to your phone. Now you can flash the ROM through recovery, then reboot to bootloader and flash the boot.img using fastboot.

Dude u gotta read a lil more before u just jump in and start messing up your phone first download a ROM for evita. Then make a copy of the boot image of the ROM, and place this in the same folder that your fastboot is in. Then transfer the ROM file to your phone. In recovery wipe data and system, reboot to bootloader, Flash the boot image in fast boot. Then after u do this Reboot to recovery again and install ROM file and gapps. Wipe cache and ur done

naw your phone will work with them, the version of the phone doesnt matter unless you had an older version. In this case if yu had an older version then yeah, some of the newer nighlies wouldnt work for you. But No worries dude ur on the newer version, as long as its the right rom for the phone Evita they will work. For now I recommend trying out the newest cyanogenmod nightly till you get a lil more comfortable with what ur doing. Or if you want a sense rom the sense 5 imagio rom is my personal favorite

[Q] HELP - messed up my htc one x

Hi guys,
it's the first time I post for getting some help, I'm not a prof like you guys, but I'm used to change roms on my phones, I normally found out solutions just searching on forums, but this time I'm really desperate.
I got this one x from a friend and it was running a Cynogenmod 10, everything was fine, but I decided to try a new rom. I'm sure I did something stupid formatting the sd (this is the first device I have with virtual sd..).
By the way, the phone now just enter the fastboot mode. No recovery mode. I try to flash, but I'm always getting into new errors.
At the moment the bootloader says
EVITA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
CID HTC_621 (IT WAS CID 11111111 but I changed it in one of my many tries, don't ask me how!!)
HBOOT 2.14.0000
RADIO 0.24P 32.09.06
OpenDSP-v34 1.0.45.1219
eMMC-boot

One thing that really worries me about your post is that you don't know how your CID got changed. There isn't a single method to fix a wiped sd card that would entail the CID being changed. This suggests that you were trying multiple different things without having any idea what you were doing, to be honest you're probably really lucky you haven't bricked your phone.
Did you perform a factory reset from the bootloader, if so you've corrupted the sd card (it's a bug on this device when it's modified). Not sure which recovery you have installed, but flash TWRP 2.6 then wipe the sd card, then mount the sd card, if it still doesn't show up properly in Windows you'll need to format it using Windows.
You're not being very specific with what you're saying, what are you trying to flash, and what errors are you getting? Without you giving all of the pertinent details it's very difficult to assist you.

About the CID, I used the JBFWF recovery tool, and during the process it asks you to chenge the cid to the new one. I will follow your suggestion, thank you again!

Thanks to you guys I finally partially solved the problem. I unblock the bootloader, I installed twrp 2.7.0.0 , I can enter the recovery mode. I still didn't find out how to recreate my virtual sd. But I'm now a little bit more optimistic.

[Q] AT&T HTC One X ROM & Kernel Problem

Hi guys,
I'm newbie about android and please do not be angry to me for this question. I was read lots of topics from xda and another forums but I can't find anything.
I have AT&T HTC One X and i was happy with my phone. Maybe one year ago I rooted my phone and install ATT Stock Root - 3.18.502.6 - JB 4.1.1.zip. So, i followed instructions from xda's web site and everything was fine.
Last two weeks my phone starts to restarts it self. So, I decide to install everything again and open my phone in recovery mode with TWRP and wipe all data. (I don't have any backup of my original data)
I have TRWP's 2.7.1.0 version and I tried to install ATT Stock Root - 3.18.502.6 - JB 4.1.1.zip because I install it one year ago and it works fine. It installs fine but when I press restart my phone stuck at Quietly Brilliant screen and after 2 minutes my phone restarts it self.
Also I can't s-off my phone. I have unlock code bin and I applied it to my phone but something was wrong.
So please can any one help me please. I don't know why my phone acts like that.
Thanks in advance.
Ok so I know your a newbie but do you know your firmware is way out of date? We now have firmware for at&t that is at least 4 realises older than the current. I would say upgrade to a new ROM and firmware. If you don't wish to upgrade I have to ask what kernel you are using?
What he said. Also, did you flash the boot.img from the rom zip via fastboot? As you are s-on, you must perform that additional step.
I suggest he reads timaaas thread. Sounds to me like he should run a ruu to which he can still obtain s off.
Well thanks for suggestions, but I don't know what is the sequence for installing new firmware, rom and kernel. Could you guys please explain the it.

No, no, no! He can't run an RUU while s-on because it'll brick his phone. I know you mean well but you need to increase your own knowledge before you can start giving advice here, I've seen at least a few times where you've given advice that would result in a brick. I'm sure you don't want that on your conscience.

You more than likely only needed to flash the boot.img from the ROM zip by fastboot. Flash the ROM, then flash the boot.img, and your phone should boot up. Once you're all booted you need to get s-off. Look in my guide thread in my signature for instructions.
