[Q] Battery use - LG G Pro 2

Using a D838 unrooted (sadly!) with no tweaks or fixes I'm finding the battery life to be pretty good, but certain games just kill my battery - Kingdom Rush: Frontiers can deplete a fully charged battery in about three hours! I don't recall this being the case on my old Note 2...
Obviously, KR Frontiers is a pretty power-hungry game, but three hours???

[Q] Battery Life... poor?

Hi guys, I've got an LG Optimus One, and it seems like it's not having a good battery life, at least I believe, since this is the first smartphone I have.
So, I turned it on this morning at about 7:30am, got back home at 2:40pm and the battery is at 39%. If I get on the Battery Use screen, it says 42% Android System; 29% Display; 24% Cell Standby; 8% Phone Idle. That's all it says.
What did I do with the phone this morning: Checked out 1 web page like... 5 times during the morning, played Angry Birds for less than 10 minutes, took 4 photos and a 3 minutes video, checked twice the Bus time arrival... Played for 20 seconds a song at the max volume... And of course I looked at the time about 10 times. In total it is something like 30-40 minutes of usage out of 7 hours.
Is it really supposed to lose that much battery? What if I want to really use it? Will the battery drop in like 2 hours?
By the way, the LG Optimus One has got a 1500mAh battery, which to me seems to be quite good...
Try to condition the Battery, let the Battery drain completely, and then charge it up while its off. this way the life of the battery will improve, do it once a while

I've already done it, just yesterday
Battery drain is affected by several factors:
- If you installed a cooked ROM you may want to try another
- If you are in a low signal zone that also drains a lot
- If you have a cooked ROM try also changing radio version
- Buy a spare one

Thanks for answering. I'm not using a custom ROM, and I've got 4 out of 5 lines of signal
I guess i'll buy an other battery, maybe the one from Mugen Power, with 300 more mAh, which is nice Thanks anyway

Objective battery life test

While I can get through the day without it dying, using heavy apps runs it flat in two hours, while some report 8 hours.
This needs an objective test that uses all the phone hardware the same way. Considering some units tend to heat a lot and others don't, there's something just flat out wasting power in some units.
At least looking at processor power usage, I hear from some that they can get 6-8 hours of Angry Birds Rio, while that runs me down in two hours from a max charge. At least on this fairly objective metric, play this game actively from a full charge and see how soon you get the 15% warning, and post findings. "20 hours with moderate use" is hard to understand as browsing pulls 1000x the energy of standby and it is very ambiguous how much reading vs scrolling vs rendering flash vs data is actually being used.
An hour or so of Grave Defense HD took me from full to 5%!
im getting the best battery life ive ever gotten out of this phone on eblood 2.3.3 after battery stats wipe...
Max battery life with GB - 4 or so hours with the phone sitting idle. I've watched battery indicator for from 100% to 2% watching a half hour of a movie.
I'm going back to using a Rzar. Seriously. Windows Moblie is the only OS for smartphone I will use from now on.
[Yes, I've tried different roms and battery calibration - I'm too damn old and have too busy of a life to be doing Androids and LGs jobs. If its not correct out the box then its crap.]
Damn, I wish it was this easy, but there are just too many variables. Today, my G2x has been off charger for almost 6 hours and I have 93% battery!!! I have wifi on and google update, weather bug and score mobile all doing background updates. Under the exact same conditions yesterday I had a "get pretty warm with reboot" about 4PM and my battery was then at 50%. And then there are the days I get the "get real hot by the camera with BSOD needing a battery pull". Depending on how quickly I realize that, I can lose my whole battery. I running stock 2.2.2.
Too many errant pointers. I don't believe I can blame it on the hardware...

[Q] Any battery runtime improvemt suggestions/ideas

Hello Everybody
My mobile phone's battery runtime is not satisfactory to my needs.
I am in stock Gingerbread Firmware and uses Juice Defender beta.
I hate Task/Process Killers.
I have disabled 3G/GPS/Push and haven't installed Skype and haven't logged into Talk.
I would use my mobile phone for around 1hr calling, and around 2hrs heavy wifi browsing etc.
I get 1 day battery life for this usage scenario (Not 24hrs, around 15-17 hrs) .
I am not sure whether my expections are high.
I would regularly do full cycle recharge after my mobile phone turns off after battery drain.
I noticed one thing in my mobile phone, Cell Standby uses siginificant battery power
Google Nexus S and some other mobile phone's cell standby would be the lowest battery consumer.
Is it because of Baseband related bugs ?
Please share your ideas/strategies for improving the battery runtime performance.

Welcome to modern smart phones.

Both of these are a mistake. The stock GB firmware is terrible and so is Juice Defender.
I hate Task/Process Killers.
Awesome

This is close to the max you'll get for modern smart phone usage like this. This isn't that bad. My phone can last for days but that is because I tend to use Wi-Fi more than the cell radio and even then I don't use my phone directly all that much. With the cell radio on and using it for several hours the best I can do is 20+ hours and the worst is somewhere around 7-10.
I am not sure whether my expections are high.
They are.
I would regularly do full cycle recharge after my mobile phone turns off after battery drain.
This is a bad idea. You should usually charge from 25-30% up to 80-85%. Don't deep cycle your battery unless you're doing the first one or two charges.

Your cell radio is always running, so it will always be at the top. If I understand it correctly the % is closer to how much of the time it has been running than how much battery it's actually used.
Google Nexus S and some other mobile phone's cell standby would be the lowest battery consumer.

You're doing better than most.
Thanks for your quick reply.
If i can't expect more than one day for even casual usage, how can i play modern and powerful games in this so-called modern smart phones, by always connecting the mobile phone to the wall charger ?
Whatever casual things we do in a modern dual core smart phone can be done in single core smart phone, albeit for lot more time.
So, these so called modern smart phones exists for our occasional gaming needs and not for the frequent casual usage ?
Either android power management should improve vastly or the mobile phones should equipped with Gigantic batteries or backup power supply to enjoy the Modern Smart Phone experience. Period.

3 options:
1) Buy an extended life battery (probably the best option since you want to do some heavy gaming/browsing).
2) Flash custom rom and kernel. (finding the right combination can GREATLY improve your battery life)
3) Lower your expectations.
... or just buy a dedicated gaming device for the heavy gaming and use your phone for casual gaming.
Welcome to the world of smartphones.
So, are you saying that flash custom firmware can improve the battery life than using the stock Gingerbread ROM ?

Yes. On very casual usage, I can get 36 hours easily. (couple calls, couple texts, little bit of wifi)
I have zero widgets, and leave my data connection OFF unless actively using data.
On the other side of the house, if I play a physics-intensive game such as Angry Birds, I can burn through a battery in 4 hours.
As phburks stated, there are aftermarket items you can purchase to improve the life of your device. Even solar panels. Ha. I suggest running a custom ROM. I use the latest CM7 nightly and faux123's 0.4.1 kernel and am very satisfied.
I use the Mugen Power 4500mah battery. It adds quite a bit of bulk to my phone but the added battery life for me is worth it. I don't do a lot of gaming but I'm constantly browsing/texting/downloading/several phone calls/etc and I can easily go 48 hours with my heaviest usage. The longest I've stretched it is 60 hours and even that was with moderate usage.

LOL
Mugen Power 4500mah makes the mobile phone a perfect brick
If I had the cash I buy that big battery.

There's a 3500 mah discussed in the accessories section that actually sounds pretty reliable and its only like $13. I already had the Mugen one by the time I found that thread lol. I probably woulda gone with the cheaper one if I'd known about it.
I have one in my phone right now.

[Q] Is there any way to determine your battery capacity/health?

hi guys, as the topic name suggests, is there any way to determine your battery capacity/health? i ask this because my phone (and battery) is well over a year old now and i understand based on my reading that with multiple charge cycles, the battery health will degrade.
this is relevant because of late i have been experiencing increasingly poor battery life (though i think it may also have to do with the recent change over to ICS), i have no idea how people manage to get up to 4 hours of screen on time, as it is i can barely hit 2 hours with light-moderate use, much less playing games/watching videos.
Is there any way for me to check if my stock battery is still good to go? because if not i am considering getting a battery off ebay or buying a replacement battery from samsung.
thanks in advance
I don't know about capacity but you can get your battery health and other info by dialing this on your dialpad:
* # * # 4 6 3 6 # * # *
You can also check batteries voltage using that code. Or do it manually with a battery testing device or multimeter. Fully charge the battery, remove from phone and test voltage. If the voltage is a lot less than the one displayed on the label (I think our batteries have a 3.7V), then most likely your battery is starting to go dead.
Others thing you can do is to check if any app is running in the background (whatsup, skype...etc). Remove unwanted services while not being used: bluetooth, wireless, NFC, etc. And try a different kernel. I've heard Matr1x kernel is one of the best in regards to battery life.
Over the course of a year it is standard for one of these batteries to lose up to around 20% of their charge, unlikely very much more. If you think you've gone from ~5 hours screen time to under 3 hours i'd be looking at a software culprit or seriously dead battery, though the former definitely first as it can effect a new battery much the same.
As always, BetterBatteryStats (get it from xda) and CPUSpy can provide some insight into any software abnormalities causing excess battery drain.
thanks guys, ill try using the multimeter method, been trying all sorts of kernels with the latest cybergrmod ics rom. dont think i see much of a difference between air kernel and matrix (though the latter does give me reboots)

Battery Temp. & Battery Life( LONG TERM )

First of all Sorry if this question is a repetition. Can't find a proper answer for this at least relevant to latest devices like Galaxy S7.
I play lot of heavy games in S7 like MORTAL KOMBAT X, NFS No Limits, Real Racing, GTA Sanandreas, Modern Combat 5. Might be about 45 mins continuously, twice every day. The question is that whether heating up of device & the battery has any adverse affect/permanent damage to battery life(long term) causing it to last shorter when compared to how it was out of the box even with same amount of gaming. Hope everything is clear in the question.
Thanks
The increase in temperature is not so big while gaming, for the battery I mean. It gets warmer when charging. Of course, gaming drains the battery faster then casual use, and charging a battery every day will have different effects as charging it once every two days.
Just enjoy your device while it lasts, don't worry about the battery. After one or two years you can change it in a Samsung repair shop.

I too have a similar question. But I don't play games much. My condition is bit different. Quoting the words of @Sheryl John. Here is my query,
I kind of lost interest in going for the screen replacement again to Samsung service center for trying to get a perfect screen which has very low probability. Because of doing the factory reset over and over, before repair, after repair(for the sake of getting Google to auto restore apps during initial setup process). Those whole processes of setting up the device, restoring the apps, restoring app datas, reconfiguring the apps one by one, transferring the huge chunk of media files(to internal) gets the device heated up a lot and I notice that battery getting heated up too and I doubt whether this has any adverse affect/permanent damage to battery life(long term) causing it to last shorter when compared to how it was out of the box. Worried about it since I’m planning to use this device for a long time. Should I really worry about it? OR Is there any need of doing factory reset? because if I’m not doing they will be accessing the device at least for conducting H/W Module tests.
PS: Been a iOS user so far and I’ve gone through Apple’s article once regarding battery temperature but I don’t know how it applies to latest devices like Galaxy S7 even though the battery technology hasn’t changed.
Yes, when you charge your phone and also play heavy games it affects the battery life of your smartphone and you face over heating problems. So, to save over the heating problem of your phone, you can charge your smartphone up to 100-percent and after the full charging, you can enjoy heavy games as always.
