That's so perfect. I don't want it to happen to my phone just to prove, but you can attest to durability of HTC One.
Yes, this phone is alot tougher than it looks (and it looks pretty tough) lol. I dropped mine on asphalt from about six feet about an hour after buying it and it landed facedown. No case, no screen protector. No scratches and no dings in the metal. HTC would never warranty their screen for six months unless they were damn sure it wasn't going to break easily. Especially since they are in financial hardship already. It's a big risk. Thankfully, this phone is tough as nails. Not like the S4. I broke three s4 screens in less than a year.
Dropped mine within 24 hours of purchase when it slipped out of my gym shorts exiting the car. Had one minor scuff on the top but a nice small scratch on the back. i was so mad, went and bought a case for it asap.

Perfectly. It wasn't a big drop, just shows how easily the back can be scuffed.
Dropped mine at the gym too and wasn't so lucky. Glass shattered. My new case was sitting on my porch for me when I got home so I was about 30 min from getting it when it fell. Called HTC and they sent me a new phone overnight. I'm so lucky they have the 6 month glass warranty. I didn't even consider it when buying the phone, but now I'll buy HTC every time if they keep this warranty going.

Dropped mine on concrete from about 4 feet flat on its back. Not a scratch. Glad HTC is still building quality rock solid devices. I still put a spigen slim armor or tpu case on it though. This phone is so smooth that I know I'm going to drop it eventually

Did the exact same thing but getting into the car from the gym - this is one slippery phone. It bounced a few times on the pavement which is not smooth. The left corners are both scuffed up but the screen does not have a scratch on it. No case on it at the time - I only use the case while biking as I have broke too many phones on the MTB.
I was riding my bike over a bridge and heard a *thud* behind me, felt my pocket and phone was gone, looked back and there it was sitting face-down on the bridge lol. Went and picked it up and not a scratch!! Man I love this thing.

Well, it happened to me today. Girlfriend had the phone and dropped it getting out of the car. Not as fortunate as you guys because the screen is now cracked . Took my otter box case off this morning too...

Damn, I hate the feeling of going over to wipe a "smudge" from your screen but finding out it is a scratch. Worst part is, I bought screen protectors but haven't put them on yet :'( . Am I the first? What would you guys do if you were me? Go exchange in store? Call and make them send me a new one?

Any clue how? I keep my phone in my old G1 nylon sleeve but have no protector or shell/skin/etc on it otherwise. It's either in the sleeve or in my hand, though.

I think I left a plastic ball point pen in my pocket with my phone for a few minutes earlier today. Maybe the tip is metal? Also I keep my keys in my other pocket but MAYBE, SOMEHOW my keys got put in the same pocket as my phone (which I severely doubt). Because My keys are the only things I can think of that would have scratched it =(. I'll do a bit my investigation later.... It sucks too because if I exchange it I'm afraid I'll get a phone with lint under the screen. My first mytouch had lint under the screen so I exchanged it for my current one, which WAS perfect. Gosh, I'm so pissed right now..

Damn. That sucks. I just took my screen protector and my gel case off. I hate he added bulk of the case, but hate trying to get it in and out of my pocket even more. And the lint it collects is super awesome. Just takes away from the aesthetics so much.
Also, I had a screen protector I got off amazon... 5 for $1.99 delivered. They are identical to zagg except for less surface texture... but, still rubbery and tacky feeling.

make up a story about how you have a hardward issue and you have tried to master reset the phone. then they will send you a warranty replacement.
i always do this once my phones get too beat up
just call 611 and say your (speaker phone or track pad or anything) doesnt work and theyll have you do a factory reset once you say you finished reseting the phone and tell them it still doesnt work theyll send you a new one under the 12 month warrenty
lol watch out it gets addicting :/ anytime i dropped a phone id just return it lol ive seen over 20 G1's pass through :/ only thing you they dont replace is back cover and battery

Dropped mine the first day I got it and it has a scratch on the bottom edge but that's about it. And it fell face down on gravel. Things like this never fail to surprise me, just had to hit that one weak spot.
Samething happened to my vibrant, 2ft from the car. That's how I ended up getting a mt4g.

All depends on the drop. Back in my blackberry days I had a pearl that fell 5' in a thin silicone case and not even a mark. My wife had a storm in a thick silicone case and fell 3' and the display looked like the OP's. It's all about the way the phone hits.

I am creating this thread to talk about when you dropped your phone and if it survived.
So here is my story....
I went to the movies with my wife and I had my phone in a pouch and was sitting on my lab. I moved my leg and my phone slipped from my lab and by the sound of it sliding on the floor, I knew it had slipped off the pouch. I started looking for it with my hands since couldn't see anything, couldn't find it, thankfully my wife did find it.
My wife handed it to me and my biggest fear was that my beautiful shiny, screen will be all scratched, to my amazement no scratchs on the screen whatsoever, it did get scratch on the metal part, but not bad at all. So now I can really say that Gorilla glass works on concrete lol

Yea moshe I had the body glove on it and that ****ty T-Mobile screen protector the one that looks all grainy. Phone looked to big and clunky, I mean I like that it has the belt clip that's cool but lately I've been rocking my phone with it off I took off that ****ty screen protector to. I had it off for like 3 weeks and not one scratch the screen is beautiful although when I do go out I'll throw on the body glove cuz u never know dropping it could happen...... I think u mean the sensation fell into limbo cause of the intense impact the awesome g2x brought on it and cause the lamesation broke its fall cause it lives to serve the king

Drop mine about five feet trying to put it in my shirt pocket felt as time slowed down and my heart stop beating but pick it up with a flash and looks brand new still man felt like I was having a heart attack after lol

haha i like the naked feel to mine. my invisible shield is on its way just slapping that on and naked free balling my phone lol. =D
I dropped mines while it was in the body glove and the stupid [email protected] opened up on impact and now I have the top right corner scuffed. The screen protector had a scratch about an inch. I dont know if the screen would have scratched without the protector but hey Im happy I had it on.

So I destroyed my first smartphone. I suppose it's pretty good since I have carried a smartphone since the original iPhone, but I forgot my phone was in my pocket and when I took off my pants it slipped out of the pocket and landed face down on the tile floor totally shattering the screen.
My question is has anyone had to send their phone to HTC for screen replacement? If so what did it cost. I don't want to do it myself and void the warranty just in case anything happens to it in the future.

Did u buy insurance? Because mine did the same and it was about $190 to fix and the deductible would be $199 so I claimed insurance instead. Hope that helps, good luck.

Sent mine in on the 20th, got a quote a week later and finally got it back today. $220, shipping included.
Unfortunately I did not. Insurance wasn't available when I got my iPhone and I never thought to add it when it became available; but I can guarantee you I will have it once I get it back from repairs.
As long as your in your first month you can add insurance otherwise your out of luck

I was leaning against a desk, and it slipped down and smacked against the desk through the cloth at the bottom of the pocket. I guess I'm gonna put a case on it, which is too bad since it looks so great naked (and the power button is already hard enough to hit!)

Son of a B!&*$! I read this last night and thought how bad I felt for you, then I got out of my car at work this morning and my phone went flying out of my hand and landed right on the screen. Full spider web glass. I too have been using a big glass screen also since the first iPhone and this is the first break so I guess I am lucky??
Any idea where to go to get the glass changed? Do we send it off to HTC?
P.S. I ordered the Otterbox yesterday because it is finally available in black. Guess I should have got that ugly blue one to hold me over.

Totally sucks. I am sending mine in to HTC for repair because it is less than a month old and I don't want to void the warranty by doing it myself but; you can get the glass for it for around $50 if you want to try it yourself.
I just watch a screen replacement online... Which convinced me that sending it back is the right thing to do, especially while it is under warranty. The crummy thing for me is that I have already been to AT&T with this phone to get it warranty replaced because of constant data drops and wifi issues but they did not have any in stock so I am playing the waiting game. Now I have to pay $200 to replace the screen of a phone I will be ditching as soon as it gets back.
Note to Everyone: GET A RUGGED CASE! my hard shell was no match for a relatively small fall, I am sure this would have held up in the Otterbox I have always had on my phones.

I have the Benks Magic Cookies case. It is really a nice case but it doesn't offer any protection on the glass at all. This is more of a keep scratches off the back case, not at all a shock protection case. I knew that when I got it, this just put an exclamation point behind that idea. I planned on using it as my "not at work go out to dinner type case" but with how easily this broke I think I will use the otterbox exclusively when it gets here.

Have owned mine since it first came out, have dropped it a million times, always holding my breath expecting the screen to crack or something crazy like it won't turn on anymore, but it just keeps taking it like a champ. No case also, battle wounds to prove it...have seen friends drop their phones (not mt4gs) relatively soon after purchasing them and cracking screens...thought I was just lucky with my drops so far but lets me relax a bit knowing I'm not the only one....

Back when I was delivering auto and truck parts, I'd keep my phone on my leg (for GPS) and forget about it when I got out of my truck on occasion. Its fallen glass first on some rocky gravel, dropped out of cars, it even has fallen down the stairs... the back doesn't look very pretty lol but my screen is still nice and responsive and everything works so that's fine by me.

Its a tough phone, I've put this phone threw a lot and it has lasted longer then any phone I've ever owned. I've cracked a Samsung and Nokia screen in my pocket. I've dropped this off ladders and phone still looks new and everything still works

I don't understand how all of you end up dropping your MT4Gs that often. I have had this phone for about 1.5 years and dropped it once, and then I got a case for it (slipped out of my pocket while taking it out). Never dropped it again.
Then again, I'm glad to know that if I ever do drop it again, it will take the impact like a champ.
yea my phone has fallen so many times without a case and has never taken any damage to the screen. My friend on the other hand, got a glacier about a year ago and the screen was completely smashed when it fell off his lap while he was sitting on the floor.

You guys will get a kick out of this then. Like others here, I've dropped it, thrown it(accidentally), all without little more than a scratch on the back. While sitting at a table once, I knocked my phone against my forehead and heard a pop. Looked at my phone and had obliterated my front glass. Must've caught the perfect spot. Haha.

Yeah, I dropped mine a million times with nothing but misc. scratches and such. Slipped out of my hand today while checking the mail, fell face first onto the driveway, and the screen was obliterated. Fortunately, I've got a warranty exchange overnighted to me, so I'll be back up and running tomorrow
The Beast
My friend and I joke that this phone is "the Beast".
It takes a beating and keeps coming back for more. He even started intentionally throwing his phone on the ground it and still rocks it strong.
Anyone experience the battery cover peeling. I know my phone gets hot now that I am running custom rom but I started noticing that the back cover is peeling and don't know if it causing the phone to get hotter or is caused by it. and as far as dropping the phone i could only consider dropping it twice the other times have been dropped in a carpet which doesn't do much except get the battery door out. Like the previous comment this phone is a beast

Yeah, it's a common issue. The coating comes off. It looks pretty nice if you peel it all off. I doubt ot's a heat issue

Slightly off subject..mine don't break..& while comparing it to several newer handsets earlier today...only a larger screen looked more inviting, otherwise the Glacier is still a great phone.

Yeah my wife and I both are experiencing this. There is also a thread about scraping if off after it starts peeling because they seemed to have put that top layer on as an after-thought. So it's common enough.
Let's see...
Dropped face first on concrete. Replaced scratched screen protector.
Dropped face first on concrete (again).
Chrome surround came loose. Snapped it back no problem.
Dropped on hardwood floor and then accidentally kicked across the room, rebounding off my coffee table and into my end table.
No damage.
I love this phone...
Thinking of upgrading to an Amaze this fall. Going to miss this one. (Though I might keep it as a backup phone. Haven't decided yet..)

I pretty much have a lot of friends with the same phone as mine (MT4G) I've seen many painful things, my friend who has one slammed his phone on a corner desk repeatedly and yet it didn't have a scratch or bump, I dropped my phone many times too. When I herd my cousin broke her mytouch I was shocked because I thought it was impossible to break it. Then I realized she broke a lot of her phones such as the sensation, iphone 3gs, iphone 4, G1 and broke a cheap phone and dropped her last phone in the toilet. She has a iPhone4S now and i hope she doesn't break that one ;-:
