Damn, I hate the feeling of going over to wipe a "smudge" from your screen but finding out it is a scratch. Worst part is, I bought screen protectors but haven't put them on yet :'( . Am I the first? What would you guys do if you were me? Go exchange in store? Call and make them send me a new one?

Any clue how? I keep my phone in my old G1 nylon sleeve but have no protector or shell/skin/etc on it otherwise. It's either in the sleeve or in my hand, though.

I think I left a plastic ball point pen in my pocket with my phone for a few minutes earlier today. Maybe the tip is metal? Also I keep my keys in my other pocket but MAYBE, SOMEHOW my keys got put in the same pocket as my phone (which I severely doubt). Because My keys are the only things I can think of that would have scratched it =(. I'll do a bit my investigation later.... It sucks too because if I exchange it I'm afraid I'll get a phone with lint under the screen. My first mytouch had lint under the screen so I exchanged it for my current one, which WAS perfect. Gosh, I'm so pissed right now..

Damn. That sucks. I just took my screen protector and my gel case off. I hate he added bulk of the case, but hate trying to get it in and out of my pocket even more. And the lint it collects is super awesome. Just takes away from the aesthetics so much.
Also, I had a screen protector I got off amazon... 5 for $1.99 delivered. They are identical to zagg except for less surface texture... but, still rubbery and tacky feeling.

make up a story about how you have a hardward issue and you have tried to master reset the phone. then they will send you a warranty replacement.
i always do this once my phones get too beat up
just call 611 and say your (speaker phone or track pad or anything) doesnt work and theyll have you do a factory reset once you say you finished reseting the phone and tell them it still doesnt work theyll send you a new one under the 12 month warrenty
lol watch out it gets addicting :/ anytime i dropped a phone id just return it lol ive seen over 20 G1's pass through :/ only thing you they dont replace is back cover and battery

+1 on the realook. Add a G1 oem sleeve for 4 or 5 bucks from ebayyyy and you got protection for under $20.

Fell off my desk...hit my wooden chair facedown. And no screen protector. And what sucks is that I ordered a screen protector last weekend and It still hasn't gotten here yet. But it sucks that it happened before I got the protector.

YES!!! you should definitely get one. Gorilla Glass is VERY durable, but it's not scratch proof.
A lot of people swear by the Steinheil Ultra Clears (i used one of my two so far, just didn't put it on to good)
I'm now using a ZAGG, and I like it just fine... Not sure which I prefer, i know i did like the slick surface on the Steinheil better. The Zagg has an orange peel effect..
It would be good to get one that isn't very flimsy, but not very thick. I also want one that my finger won't get caught on, I always leave huge smudges sometimes on my screen.
Coming from an HTC touch pro 2 to the Mesmerize the gorilla glass is GREAT! I did get a free screen protector with my otterbox so that's what I'm using. I used to have a invisible shield on but I took it off as I didn't care for the texture. I like the smooth screen protector that came with the otterbox.
I've used Phantom Skinz for my last 2 phones. they work good for me.
I stopped using a screen protector because I work in a restaurant, so I always text with semi oily fingers. I find the screen protectors are a ##### to clean! However, the screen cleans very easily with a bit of hand Sanitizer and a soft rag.

I used a Phantom Skinz and it works rather well. It does orange peel a bit, but nothing a quick rub on the shirt doesn't fix.
The screen protectors do their job but make it ugly in my opinion.
Oh wait, I only used the one they sent in from cell south store so maybe you can find a good one.

Just wanted to put this out there, I haven't had any sort of case or screen protection since I bought the phone 3 months ago, and I only have one tiny hairline scratch in it that you can hardly even see.
I keep mine in my pocket most of the time, but I've trained myself to not keep anything else in that pocket....

No screen protector on mine either and only one tiny scratch that can only be seen when holding at certain angle. mine is always in my pocket too but I am starting to notice a spot where the screen is showing some wear from sliding around and in and out of my pocket. I am going to invest in a screen protector by the end of the month with some b day cash

I reset my phone after root and lag fix and playlogos1 was not deleted and I went to the file and it wouldn't allow me to delete it. What can I do to get rid of it so i can lagfix my phone.
I don't use one and have zero scratches.. I even let my kids play with it.

I bought a pack of 3 anti-glare screen protectors on eBay for $2. They work great, but I missed how the IPS Screen looked, so I took them off.

Yeah exactly, that's the reason I dumped Invisible Shield. That's why I get the cheapest ones from China. No gimmick to em, they're just clear plastic sheets that fits perfectly, so that I don't lose the quality of the IPS.
Why even use a screen protector? It makes sense if you're working in a very dusty or greasy environment, or if you walk around with rocks or screws in your pockets. Aside from that, I see no reason for it.

But I only carry phone in my right pocket and keys in left pocket. Heh

I agree. I think they're more of a hindrance than a benefit. I've tried some before and never found one that didn't degrade the screen clarity.

That is one tough phone. I ordered a few thin cases for the phone but since seeing these videos they are probably not necessary. A case would ruin a beautiful phone.
The camera is recessed in the North American version about a mm into the case . Just be vigilant where you set the phone down. I am thinking no case is needed for this phone.

Just be warned that if it hits the screen the right way, your screen is dead. I'm using a tpu case with a lip to protect the screen a bit. I'd be fine without the case though...

So I destroyed my first smartphone. I suppose it's pretty good since I have carried a smartphone since the original iPhone, but I forgot my phone was in my pocket and when I took off my pants it slipped out of the pocket and landed face down on the tile floor totally shattering the screen.
My question is has anyone had to send their phone to HTC for screen replacement? If so what did it cost. I don't want to do it myself and void the warranty just in case anything happens to it in the future.

Did u buy insurance? Because mine did the same and it was about $190 to fix and the deductible would be $199 so I claimed insurance instead. Hope that helps, good luck.

Sent mine in on the 20th, got a quote a week later and finally got it back today. $220, shipping included.
Unfortunately I did not. Insurance wasn't available when I got my iPhone and I never thought to add it when it became available; but I can guarantee you I will have it once I get it back from repairs.
As long as your in your first month you can add insurance otherwise your out of luck

Wow, that hurts to look at. Sorry for your bad luck. :-( I already gave mine a pretty good knock by dropping it into my front jeans pocket where it always goes. I was leaning against a desk, and it slipped down and smacked against the desk through the cloth at the bottom of the pocket. I guess I'm gonna put a case on it, which is too bad since it looks so great naked (and the power button is already hard enough to hit!)

Son of a B!&*$! I read this last night and thought how bad I felt for you, then I got out of my car at work this morning and my phone went flying out of my hand and landed right on the screen. Full spider web glass. I too have been using a big glass screen also since the first iPhone and this is the first break so I guess I am lucky??
Any idea where to go to get the glass changed? Do we send it off to HTC?
P.S. I ordered the Otterbox yesterday because it is finally available in black. Guess I should have got that ugly blue one to hold me over.

Totally sucks. I am sending mine in to HTC for repair because it is less than a month old and I don't want to void the warranty by doing it myself but; you can get the glass for it for around $50 if you want to try it yourself.
I just watch a screen replacement online... Which convinced me that sending it back is the right thing to do, especially while it is under warranty. The crummy thing for me is that I have already been to AT&T with this phone to get it warranty replaced because of constant data drops and wifi issues but they did not have any in stock so I am playing the waiting game. Now I have to pay $200 to replace the screen of a phone I will be ditching as soon as it gets back.
Note to Everyone: GET A RUGGED CASE! my hard shell was no match for a relatively small fall, I am sure this would have held up in the Otterbox I have always had on my phones.

I have the Benks Magic Cookies case. It is really a nice case but it doesn't offer any protection on the glass at all. This is more of a keep scratches off the back case, not at all a shock protection case. I knew that when I got it, this just put an exclamation point behind that idea. I planned on using it as my "not at work go out to dinner type case" but with how easily this broke I think I will use the otterbox exclusively when it gets here.
I see. Well that sucks. I was actually debating whether to get that one before buying my bestbuy case.
