I got the one s and its working perfectly and smooth but only one thing is starting to irk me, and that's the bloatware...I want to get rid of it and heard that there's only a temporary root but correct me if I'm wrong I would like to know if theres a permanent root for the one s to get rid of the bloatware. Any type of advice is really appreciated.

You can use the available root method to remove bloat. Search the forum before asking questions and you'll find answers. Check in development. Congrats with your new phone hope u love it.

there is permanent root for the One S... flash it and use something like titanium backup to remove all the bloatware

depends if you want rid of portions of the bloatware..you could just use rootexplorer and knock off the apps you dont need. i do that with sense roms old and new..and get rid of crap like peep etc..
htc needs to get wise to that lol...never understood why they insist on filling there roms full of rubbish..saying that..some people like

Well thx and it would really help if someone would post a thread link so I can get straight to it, I would look around in the forum but my busy hours at work won't let me, and this amazing phone just needs the bloatware completely removed...oh and if you guys know any good roms for the one s, I know they are still in development, but if the essentials work that's all I need to know...thx for taking time to help a noob.

Unlock at HTCdev then use the above link(paulobrien method) it works with US T-Mobile also. Its as simple as connecting phone to PC and installing the file. Presto! Root!
I have US version and it worked fine. After rooting download Rom Manager from play store and use it to flash recovery.

just got through unlocking the bootloader, everything went great, but just a quick question before i root it, is it safe to run the root from the hasoon2000 kit to the phone that is a tmobile version or should i try the O'brian method? im just curious and take precautions, i dont want to brick my phone at all.
quick edit: i used obrians method, worked good and everything works fine, started up normally with a little lag then smoothly continued, im figuring that thats it....now for a rom anyone has a good rom that is good, i like the same default one that was with the phone, but all i wanted to do was keep everything and just completely take out the bloatware....i dont mind having the themes changed i just want the bloatware out of this amazing phone. thanks for helping me out.

Now that your phone is rooted just use Root Explorer to remove all the extra crap you don't want on your phone. Look in "/system/app" That's where the bloat is located.

what else is needed to port a working cwm? the kernel source?(?)
It seems after paul's Interim cwm came out, there is not further development on this anymore...
however if i'm not wrong... the update script doesn't work with paul's cwm yet...
so should we maybe continue working on it? I see rom makers start to use the work around of script-installers...which is very painful to develop on their side.
I tried to port the cwm but..failed due to limit knowledge of working with android source... all the guides I can find is for GB...not ics.
I have a unlocked s-off rogers hox... I'm willing to spend time to port and test if someone willing to lead me...or If someone is willing to do so, I will try to help as much as I can.
we shouldn't be too far since paul already got it that far...with able to flash the recovery and boot into it.
I wish we can get this working, so when dev got bl unlocked with att hox, the att user will have a working cwm and an unlocked bl to flash it...

I think the chances are that the bootloader will be unlocked soon, and when it is I don't think it'll be long for cwm to be ported. I know there are some great devs with this phone, and I'm sure development will catch up to the international version. Right now is just a waiting game.
So i got a little ahead of myself today when i unlock my AT&T One X bootloader. I tried to instal CWR and then Cyan9. Rooted and unlocked fine but i get the feeling CWR is still not compatible with the AT&T One-X bootloader.
So the problem im having is reinstalling the stock RUU and ROM. I found lists and lists of RUUs and tried one the is supposed to work but i have had little success. How can i find the stock RUU for my phone or better yet is there a CWR that i can instal to get Cyan9 running?
Im sorry im sure you guys get idiot questions like this all the time but i have spent hours googling with no luck. Im desperate to use my phone again!
Thanks for you input in advanced

Thank you so much. You dont think CM would work on top of this CWM? Or am i missing a whole nother aspect here?
Frankly, I'm not entirely sure what all is involved in porting CM9 from one platform to another, but I would suspect we'll have to wait for HTC to release the source to pull some of the drivers, etc before we make much progress. I would expect somebody to have started a thread on it in the development section if anybody were actively working on it that the moment.
Lol there is no cyanogen mod for this device yet. If there was, and it would've been in the development section. You shouldve known better not to flash the file if it isn't for this device.
You deserve the brick..

I'm guessing you flashed the unofficial CM9 build for the international One X? That phone has a completely different CPU and SoC (Tegra 3) from the AT&T version (Snapdragon S4) and ROMs are not compatible between the 2.
Either that or you flashed the ROM from some random, completely different phone. In either case, don't flash ROMs for other phones. It won't work, and its a good way to brick your phone.
Sounds like you are pretty correct when you said you've gotten a little ahead of yourself. Don't Google around and install things on your phone unless you are very comfortable with what you are doing. If you are a noob, your best bet is to stick to the Development subforum for your particular device here on XDA.
I've posted an index thread in Development, and it is your friend. Its a sticky at the top of the Development subforum, and you should always read the threads stickied to the top of the forums. I've kept it updated with the latest ROMs that will work on your phone. It also links the appropriate RUUs, as well as other tools.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Also, even flashing the correct RUU will not work, unless you relock the bootloader.
If your smart enough to root and flash **** how did you not know you can't flash a Rom for an entirely different phone. Smh

Was that necessary? We were all noobs once
Anyway i think he got confused with all of the initials... He was saying CWR, Saying cyan9 should work on top of CWR. Hopefully was typo and meant CWM. No wonder you couldn't find any info. Sounds like he thought they were the same or went together. CWM stands for Clockwork Mod, not cyanogen. I may be wrong with this assumption. Anyway..
So, I'll admit that this is my first android phone and I'll admit that I didn't take a bunch of time to learn anything about what I needed to do before rooting and unlocking and flashing and everything else.
My problem is, I've unlocked my bootloader just fine and I rooted my phone just fine. The problem came when I found Android Revolution HD, from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603, and wanted it. I didn't understand how to flash a new ROM or anything, but I went ahead and tried. I flashed several different boot images and recoveries so I don't even know where to begin. I flashed recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.0-endeavoru and tried to use the boot.img from the link I posted. Now I can't boot into recovery or restart my phone or even do a factory reset. I'm afraid that I messed everything up to the point where I need a new phone or something. I know I should have spent more time with this before diving into it, I was just excited. Is there anything I can do? I'm sorry if my problem is vague..

first of all, you flashed a ROM and recovery not meant for your phone. Our One X is a snapdragon based phone codenamed evita.
can you get to boot loader anymore?
if so relock it
then install the factory RUU that matches the version you had before, probably 1.85
then spend about 2 or 3 weeks reading the threads in OUR development section before you unlock the bootloader and flash anything else.

This mistake is very easy to make for someone who just bought a phone. I know that the credo at XDA is rtfm but the mods of the respective forums really ought to make the effort to make the distinction more obvious.
HTC and AT&T should have done that.
Seems pretty self explanatory to me.

HTC one x Themes and apps..
Etc etc...

I know I made the same mistake in my first ROM flashing experience. And I even knew that ROMs for the International One X were incompatible! I just had no idea what "endeavoru" meant.
Since then, I've been keeping track of many HTC One X terms, which I highly recommend the original poster take a peek at.

Revolution HD seems to be a popular ROM for the International One X. Maybe they should explicitly note in the OP that it will likely brick an AT&T One X if flashed (if they don't already!)
This may also be a good thread to take a look at (if you don't feel bad enough already!)
[PSA] FOR THE LOVE OF GOD Please Stop Flashing International One X ROMS On This Phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813839
Hey guys, new to the forum, literally first post.
I have an AT&T One X though i'm not even in the US and i'm considering rooting for a few reasons. I've been gathering my info and thinking it over before i decide to even try. I've read the pros and cons of rooting on a number of sites and i know most people here will be pro (if not all) lol.
What i read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237 -Top guide, will rate now that i am registered, a bit overwhelmingly though
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619153 - [Newbie Guide] adb/fastboot/bootloader/android 101
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784459 - HTC One XL Terminology Glossary v1.2 [2012/09/30] (filled in a few of those missed stuff)
Also the Wiki and some other random threads
For the rooting process: I spent a few hours reading most of djrbliss and hasoon2000 's rooting threads (because i'm on 2.20) and i'll go rate and thank them too even if i don't root in the end.
So basically what i actually want to know is there anything else i should look into before i get started?
I'm also undecided on a ROM as yet because i need it to have a few certain features though i'm not sure they are available in all or none
1) Ability to backup apps and app data (I believe Titanium Backup Does this, but i mostly wanted one to use BEFORE the rooting process)
2) Get rid of that bloatware (It's not really an issue as it can be disabled) but for the very least switching out the boot screen will work
3) Probably the most important is getting OTA updates (I can't get them in my country, because i'm not on ATT) and if i have to wipe to do an update i might as well switch to a ROM that doesn't have that problem.
Post is really long now that i look it over lol, thanks for reading.
Man I'm glad you've been doing research, it sounds like you at least have a grasp of what's gonna have to happen. You didn't mention if your on att, telus, rogers, ect. Att users have to go through the entire process, while all other carriers can just unlock through htcdev and flash twrp (recovery) then superuser (root).

I got my code from HTC Dev
I drop bootloader unlock on there
but when I get to the recovery portion it says that it transfers correctly etc,
However, when I am in boot and click 'recovery' , i get a white HTC splash screen that says "quiety brilliant' that you normally see, but with some red disclaimer text below. It just hangs there until i do something.

From fastboot type "fastboot oem getcid" if it shows CWS__001 then yes you have to do the entire process.

So you've completed the process on htcdev, and they emailed you the unlock token? Drop that in your fastboot/adb folder and use the command prompt that htcdev says (sorry I forget) ..
Once you do that you'll be bootloader unlocked... nothing fancy here yet... if your NOT on att, you should be able to download goomanager from play store and install recovery script.. now we playin with the puss! Yep, i know about redpoint's guide, i have it open almost constantly, but it doesn't provide a description of what each ROM does, have to read through as Elvis suggested.

Well I can tell you if you haveny noticed in original dev section most roms if not all are cm10.1 based or aosp based... In the regular dev section they're mostly sense 4+ roms with each having its own tweaks

Something that just occurred to me though; do the telus and rogers ROMs have the restriction on tethering, reverse tethering and other android features? I noticed most of the developers are working from the AT&T ROM base which seem to have those restricted. (I could be misinterpreting)
Thanks Divine for that list, a bit confusing at first but i'm closer to my ROM choice. Still have a few questions:
1) Does cleanROM provide an OTA service? Or do i have to factory reset to do an update every time?
2) Viper seems to be highly rated for it's stability and features, however can i turn off all those themes? Plus what are all these features? I'm not sure i need them.
3) Rebelrom Senseless seems to be interesting too but what is the advantage of being closer to stock Android on an HTC device?(This one might be subjective)
4) I'm also liking the look of Hakta, so i'm asking if this one has OTA or have to factory reset to update as well?
I would ask the developers themselves but i'm too unimportant to post in their threads or pm them lol.
Thanks again to anyone who has the time to answer.

1) clean Rom does not provide an ota service but you could expect one more full update for it then it'll be done with updates fir a while
2) viper comes basically stock it has a whole variety of themes you can choose..from my experience it's been amazing and great battery life with a great equalizer too for music(uses telus base I think)
3) rebel Rom keeps the sense camera and some other stck sense applications ..it basically gets rid of the sense launcher and you'd be on nova or your choice of an alternative launcher.. great battery life
4) hatka..is an interesting one, from my experience I didn't have any bugs and the audio is great with acid audio
Side notes: only one actual custom Rom is running the att jb base and that's clean Rom.. I think tethering works on every Rom but I couldn't promise..
And just consider yourself a loser unless you hate chelsea!
I've been a hatka user for quite some time and I must admit it is near flawless. It uses many battery/performance tweaks and when paired with elemental it's just beautiful. Plus it's the only rom with built it AC!D which is pretty much pure sex coming out of your headphones. Hope this helps!
