Yeah, unfortunately it is not the source code yet, just the parts for the emulator and pieces needed for Devs to write apps specifically for the Atrix2.
I wish there was more there for us to use to get this thing cracked open. Hopefully we can get a ROM developer to jump in here soon and help us collect what they need to get started on ROM development. Although we will need someone like Th3ory who is not afraid of making ROMs for devices with locked bootloaders, because I have a feeling it will be after ICS before we have an unlocked bootloader.
An emulator as in a full emulation of our phone? So if one were to try to develop a ROM for this thing could that be used to test rather than risking a brick?

Jim I'm curious. What recovery are you using? Bionic bootstrapper? And is it safe yet? I've read on it a little. Is it one of those things where unless your a bit of a dev not to try it?
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk
@PeteSeiler2010:
Yes this could be used to test a Developed ROM, however until we get a hold of some kind of code for this thing, there can't be too much development of ROMs and such, unless someone knows something I don't. And "code" can be anything from an fxz to the released source code for the Atrix 2 build.
@tylercarter:
For a "Recovery" this is the one you want, link below. And yes it is not 100% yet, but it does what we need it to right now, the only issue is if you crash, you can't get back to it on boot, you have to use the bootstrap to boot into it, from your app drawer. This is again something that can be done after a bootloader unlock. This will allow back up and restores though.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346977
----EDIT----
I use the emulator for a lot of the work I have been doing to see what will happen, without risking a screwup on my phone directly. Then once I have tested it out there, on the phone it goes. You can even test apps from the market as well, just to see. It is really for app developers, to do their testing of the apps they build, but we can also do something similar for our "hacking".
Thanks for info Jim, I am going to download it and check it out and see if there is anything I do with it.
Also, Jim, have you done many restores on your phone? I have been hesitant to try one...its just so risky without the sbf.

Not a FULL restore, but there are others who have tried one of the updates in the bootloader unlock forum, that have been able to restore back to before the update successfully.
I have restored files, and even directories, but not the whole thing yet.
User Kholk says he has a working bootloader bypass for the GSM razr, which basically allows him to run a unsigned kernel on the razr, which has a locked bootloader, it works, but still loading the motorola bootloader and kernel, but after booting the stock bl and kernel, it bypasses them and boots again in a unsigned custom kernel. here is the razr thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519448 and here is a thread about talks of porting it to the droid 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594406&page=3 . if they port it to the droid 3 id say there is a good chance it could be ported to the atrix 2 and other similar moto devices.
This basically wont be much different that having a fully unlocked bootloader XD and will lead to easier AOSP based rom development, and of course allow for custom kernels to be loaded !!!
We already have e memebr here that is working on the port and as soon as he gets permission will get it to us

Sweetness, finally stupid moto locked bootloaders D: . maybe we will see fully working CM9 soon or atleast cm7 .
Oh and btw is there anyone with a working safestrap setup on the atrix 2 who would be willing to test my cm9 build? I dont have access to a atrix 2 atm to test my self.

I'm not being rude I swear I'm just wondering why only one person can can work this port at a time, isn't it kinda the more minds the faster it goes? I'm sure there is some red tape or a good decent reason I'm just curious...
I wasn't saying you couldnt work on it, I was just stating that we have a memeber here who has been working on it and probably has it ready to release, he is just waiting for Kholk to release it and word that he can relaease it.

AT&T put extra security measures in the a2.those are making the kexec bypass much harder to implement on our phone.the member working on it is working closely with kholk, embeem and others to get this done.

Oh OK I see I was just making sure it wasn't rude to try on my own... thank u
does it mean:
compile a kexec module and install it after booted, and change kernel while system running. is this right?
thank you,
How long???
I have 15 days left before I can return my Atrix 2. I truly despise this POS device because of the lack of an open bootloader. That is my fault for not checking on here before I bought it. My questions is, should I just return it or is an unlocked bootloader on the horizon, (3 weeks or so. Heh heh). Thanks.

As far as the bootloader goes we'll call it even odds on being unlocked eventually. However I have spoken with the developer working on kexec for the A2 and it is nearly ready. He's just got a couple of issues to work out before releasing it to everyone. Don't give up a2 owners, hope is on the horizon!

If you take a look in the bootloader unlock thread, I posted a link to grab the one Kholk released. I worked on this for months, and tested it and compiled and worked with these guys and on my own.... But Kholk has released it, and it has been tested and it is working, but we now need a kernel. I am working on releasing my CM7 kernel and build here very soon.
Hello,
I have the Rogers version of the One XL and I'd like to root my phone in order to try the Trebuchet launcher from CM9.
I've managed to unlock my bootloader via HTCDev.com however I am not able to install CWM from the One X dev forum, I'm assuming because it is designed for the Tegra3 and not the S4.
Is there a way for me to root my phone at this time or will I have to wait until one of the knowledgeable devs ports CWM over?
Thanks,
George
Not sure yet, but expect this forum to come alive when the AT&T version is released.

Do a search... we already have done something similar, it is slow, and not worth it, since we don't have space on the internal storage to put the 2nd ROM, so it MUST go on the SDcard.
It was abandoned due to the fact that it was so slow it was unusable. Besides there are many of us that have been working to get CM7 and CM9 working from a port without success.... but you are more than welcome to jump in and lend a hand, we have a post in the dev section about it for aokp and CM9.

Do you mean as in a multi boot?
The Defy I had, I flashed a defy+ sbf too then plonked cm9 on, no 2nd rom/boot or such.
My understanding was that the purpose of 2nd init was to hijack the init process and allow to boot into boot manager.
I'm also guessing bootmanager would need to be built from source to suit the A2?
I've read a few of your posts mate, worked with Linus? Legend.
You will by far know more than I do these days, but I'll see what I can do to help.
First I'll deodex the ics leak I'm running and make a Cwm backup to upload. Not sure how useful it will be due to the kernel.
The U.S, Europe and Asia hardware is all different?
The one last thing I remember from defy was I had to use at&t baseband since telecom nz uses the same carrier frequency.
And ran the defy+ rom on old red lense ddfy without a single issue at defy+ stock clock freq

Yeah we used a util called safestrap that another dev and I patched to make it work on this phone that was originally from hashcode.
It allowed us to boot another ROM on say our SDcard, but again it still has to use our kernel due to the bootloader issue...
The only way around the bootloader as of now is by using kexec, and that only works with 1 CPU and can only load a "stock based" unsigned kernel, so the CM stuff is out.
We are working to get CM9 and or AOKP booting from a port on our phone using the stock GB kernel. There is a post on it in the dev section.
Yeah Linus is a Friend, a great guy and I can't say enough good things about him. I have not seen him since the last Linux world / Opensource world now as it is called.
Yeah you should jump in and join the frey, we can always use more help in here.
Well it wasn't hard to work out how to get a 2nd init style boot. (As in, blue light, press vol down, gets bootmenu)
Except bootmenu is garbled screen. I need to test more, and probably mod some of the scripts.
Heres a system nandroid of ICS http://www.4shared.com/archive/bp3qzA9o/Atrix2-ICS-NANDROID__672112asi.html
Dunno how much use it will be since I didn't get the kernel.

Exactly haha. Not sure why people are jumping the gun on development for this phone already. My Moto g5 plus took longer than this from its initial release to get development going. And now that phone is very active in the community.
Anyway, point is, just give it some time like this guy said. The phone isn't exactly a flagship anyway. And the Android one version hasn't even been released here yet.

Look on the bright side, pixel 2 been out for a month. And even we are slow on development. You'll get root and probably a few roms, it will take time though.
Also the fact that bootloader is unlockable when phone cost less than $400 is kinda big deal

Very well put. I only usually get the flagship HTC phones but this time I chose this since it was T-Mobile specific. And I waited to long to get u11 so using this till next HTC flagship comes. I look forward to seeing you around.
HTC phones from my experience don't take too long to get root. They average about a month or so. Keep in mind my last HTC was the EVO LTE.
You don't need a custom recovery for root.
You can use Magisk to patch a stock boot.img for your device (for example, one found here) and flash the patched image via fastboot. Then you're rooted, and you didn't even need TWRP.
I won't be purchasing this device, so unfortunately I can't build a TWRP for it (that and I'm retiring in 8 posts). If someone else wants to pursue building it, I'm willing to offer minimal assistance.

There's a thread on xda about building TWRP. I've never built TWRP before, but I know about using build environments and whatnot. Google "how to build TWRP" I believe haha, as simple as it sounds it should come up in the top few results.
Anyway, I think you and I should help each other out here like you said. I'm using an older imac since I sold my old PC. It only has 4gb ram, but I'm going to install Ubuntu tomorrow on the Mac as a partition, and then hopefully I can get a build environment going quickly and start work.
What are you doing so far? Are you able to build too? Or maybe we can both research and bounce ideas off each other while I try it out. Whatever you prefer. Just PM me I guess.

I bought the U11 Life as a backup to my Pixel 2 (and to benefit from T-Mobile's Carrier Freedom promo, as well) and I was very surprised as to how much I actually enjoyed using the phone!
Brought me back to the days when I had the One M7.
Just so everyone is aware...... Once you unlock your bootloader you can then go super CID, once you are super CID you can flash ANY GSM boot.img , so there is no roadblock on that end. The roadblock is no custom recovery, if we had a custom recovery then we are open to a world of wonders and amazement. So get to work......
