[Q] Google Image Search... - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I'm annoyed by the images I see when I search my name in Google.
I don't have a problem with Bing or Yahoo.. I don't know any other search engines..
I don't want to remove the images that are bothering me,
I'd rather understand why they're chosen and try controlling my image search..
1. Do you know a way to do this?
2. How do you control your images?
3. Do you even care?
4. Do you think I shouldn't care?
I have some form of OCD and am a minimalist perfectionist, so I would love to know any solutions.
Also, you're very handsome and smart.. maybe compliments will help fish in solution(s)...
love you..

[APP] MIUI Browser (aka Charming Browser)

The Chinese did it again! The "Charming Browser" has a MIUI-like look and feel. So...
So I translated it! cn.miren.browser-v1.1-b97-mod2.apk
And I did it again! cn.miren.browser-v1.1-b102-mod2.apk
The only Chinese left is what it grabs from an external server (such as Books and Music).
Reserved for later.
Also reserved for later.
Thank you. Been using it the last couple of days and it's great and fast. Only have two complaints:
1. the hacked flash 10.1 used to watch hulu will not work on hulu.com. the stock browser will work.
2. the startup of the browser is too slow.
Other than that, its the best browser to date.
Great, you've made a dedicated thread for the MIUI browser!
I'll be coming back when I get that annoying "an update is available" message
Using it right now and loving it.
love it. thank you for translating! this is exactly what i've been looking for.
With my short amount of use so far I love this browser. Very quick, and with exact amount and type of UI I like. All the weird links to chinese websites are kind of odd but easily ignored.
So awesome! Thanks a lot man!
How do you toggle between mobile and desktop?
Or, can you?
Why was it renamed to MIUI browser?
Maybe I mis-read but I thought this was translated. All my searches in Google are comming up in Chinese....

You didn't mis-read anything, you probably chose Baidu as the search engine didn't you? cos that's a chinese search engine hence the results would be in chinese... the search engine isn't actually built into the browser due to it being a search engine hence jpsiemer can't translate it.
Try picking Google from the dropdown menu when you want to search for something and you'll most likely get english results... due to google NOT being a chinese search engine.
And oh, in the future how about using some common sense before posting snide remarks about how you "mis-read" somebody elses hard work not being translated or at least if common sense isn't one of your strongest sides post you're question in a nice manner where people will feel like they want to help you.
EDIT: Sorry about this rant, I overeacted quite a bit... I apologise
Any one else have issues sending sms messages after installing this? I'm on evolution miui 1.29 port..

I'd be interested to know this too - can't seem to find this option on the stock browser either when using the miui rom.
Thanks.

Okay seriously as if I'd start a race war on XDA, we're not in the 1950's anymore... get with it.
I just got annoyed at him mocking somebody elses hard work which they'd chosen to share for free with everyone here... I doubt he or you for that matter understand how much work translating an entire application is, and he metaphorically pissed on the translators hard work by saying he "mis-read" it being translated to english probably due to the fact the he just clicked the wrong button and instead of asking if this was the case for eveyone or if anyone had a fix or anything in that manner. He decides to whip out his **** and piss on the developers hard work.
I don't care if you're white, black, yellow or ****ing green like the incredible hulk when you disrespect somebody else's hard work which they've given you for free you deserve to be the victim of a rant.
Anyone else having problems with the favorites thumbnails? I've entered 7 different pages (can't get rid of the music one for some reason) and they all show the same thumbnail. Pretty random because that thumbnail is one of those 7 pages :/

You can go into settings....advanced...and set google as your home page, but you lose the dashboard. I have not found an option to change the search engine.

Custom Auto Corrections... star report?

I created a feature request for Google for a custom auto correction feature, which I think will go a long way in improving upon the stock Gingerbread keyboard.
Please visit the link and star it if you'd like to see this feature added in a future update. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=14420
Thanks.
I think the keyboard will only get better with future releases. Google recently brought a company called blindtype, so hopefully they will implement it in their keyboard soon.
Anyway, I stared it stock keyboard is kinda bad!!
Ummm ... Doesn't Gingerbread have custom auto-completion? If I type a new word, then click on it, it says to click on it again to add it, then when I type that word, it comes up in the list of auto-completes. Or did I misunderstand what you are trying to achieve?

I starred it, but as soon as my email box starts flooding with all the idiotic "yeah, you google jerks fix this or I'll return my phone" comments that these starred reports tend to attract, I'll be un-starring it.
PLEASE people, only comment on starred reports, be they bug or enhancement requests if your comment actually adds value to the concept or bug report, such as additional steps to reproduce a problem on a bug, or an idea of how to improve the enhancement request. All the other stuff just spams people's mailbox and ticks them off.

I believe he's trying to achieve a way for us to EDIT or IMPORT the autocorrection list. With a feature like that, we could move our autocorrects from phone to phone, or better yet, they could be synced to the Google cloud with all the rest of our personalizations. As it stands now, wipe/reset your phone, and your keyboard has to re-learn all your habits/words.
BTW - I've found that whenever people start their post with "ummm..." it's taking as some kind of snarky put down of the person they're responding to. I've had perfectly innocent posts replied to with name-calling and insults over that.

Thanks for the tip/warning. I usually mean ummm to mean, "I'm confused by what you say" and not a snarky put down of the person. I think I understand what he's trying to achieve now and it makes sense to be able to transfer the custom list. Under Language in settings, you can view your list and add or delete words, but that's it. I don't think it would be too hard to add and Import and Export button to it at the very least.
Cheers.

I hear you on the "ummm", it's what I mean too, but it seems to upset people.
Now that's a good tip about going to language settings...I did not know that, but I don't really use stock keyboard, I use SwiftKey almost exclusively, and I believe it puts your auto-correct stuff on the sdcard, so they stick between roms/resets, and you could even move to a new phone.
edit: actually, looking at that Settings user dictionary, is that just user defined words, or actual autocorrects, or does the system use some kind of algorithm to compare what you're typing against those words?
It would be tedious if you have a lot of words, but you could always copy/paste your custom word list into that feature with a pre-saved text file listing them.
Thanks for starring, folks. I agree, I hope people don't get carried away by responding with their every two cents, which ends up just spamming mailboxes.
As for what I mean by custom auto corrections, if anyone is using or have used Smart Keyboard Pro, they'll know what I mean. Basically, you get to edit and choose what specific words you want to be auto corrected to what. For example, if you're prone to typing "km" instead of "I'm" you can create a custom auto correction to make km=I'm. That way, anytime you type "km" by accident, it'll automatically switch it to "I'm."
Another example, "tmr=tomorrow" or "idk=I don't know." You can do this on Smart Keyboard Pro and it's one of the best features in making the typing experience easier.
Bump. This got moved from General to Q&A and got lost in the shuffle. Please visit the link and star the request if you wish to see Custom Auto Corrections implemented by Google. I think it'll enhance greatly the typing experience.
Thanks.

I actually use a gmail filter to just archive the things and keep them out of my inbox, then every now and then scroll through to see if anything interesting.
I agree, that code site is pretty much just useless.
The Google Help Forums, though, tend to get a lot of Google employee attention.

[Q] anyone know what the process scribble is?

i have a process running that says its called scribble... com.htc.mysketcher... anyone know what this is?
Judging from the name, I'd say it is likely to be an application or widget where you can scribble. Seeing how it is an HTC software, I'd say it is their Notes widget.
thanks for the response, that sounds viable but i don't have the notes widget installed .....

Thanks for your delightful information . now let me tell you how retarded you are:
1. i do not have a custom boot animation running
2. Upon first viewing your link to "delightful information" did you stop to think that maybe I wouldn't install this boot animation because it might not be the proper size for our screens?
3. if I had in fact installed this, don't you think I would have enough common sense to know what the process might be considering this would be the name of something I MYSELF had installed?
4. Try posting a useful comment instead of a smart**s one
Scribble is an htc app used for two things. The first is its an app that works with htc's stylus enabled devices (e.g. The flyer and evo view) to draw or "sketch" directly onto the screen. The other thing, and why its on our phone, is it is the app that facilitates htc's built in screen capture feature.
i can confirm screen capture, i took scribble out and bye bye screen capture
awesome, good info, thanks alot to the both of you!

woah, calm down there. My post wasn't meant to sound like a "smart**s" one.
I just tried to help. Although, the lmgtfy might let you think that, i just added it for the giggles.
I truly apologize if my post offended you in any way.
I just wanted to show you, detailed as possible, how i got this (indeed delightful,
because information is always delightful ) information.
You were the one who opened a thread with "blabla scribble blabla"
without mentioning your ROM that you're using
the date you first stumbled over this process
what applications you have may installed or other modifications/configurations you made to your device
what research you've done to get additional information
and finally:
not sharing your research results in your post
You gave SOME information as an answer to my post, but not in your
original post. Why not?
Would you've shared more detailed information on your problem
in your original post, i might have not came up with such a "smart**s" reply.
And i am the one you call retarded. Nice move.
As i understood this forums, this place isn't meant for:
"I have a question xy, can someone give the answer?"
It's meant for:
"I have a question xy, i have done this and that to resolve it, but i still have some open points i want to clarify, can someone help?"
The difference is, that you SHARE the information you have, to PREVENT people come up with guesses (like i did).
Guesses will form up to rumors, rumors spread out, become an urban legend and
everyone will soon swear to god that he or she knows someone who had "xy" resolved by some urban legend... true story.
In addition, this place is not for:
"yo, the answer is bla"
it is for:
"yo, the answer is bla and i have this and that information to back up my claim, go and check up if this works for you too."
Instead of calling me "retarded" you could've simply stated in a proper manner,
that my given information is not useful at all, because of the resolution or something
else i could've easily checked myself but i did not, because i was in a hurry or whatever.
This would've improved my behaviour in this place, but now i am just frustrated
with some guy i don't even know just because i tried to contribute.
Sorry for using my crystal ball, it was foggy in there.
I guess i am back to reading this forums, instead of contributing to them.

I think you're really reaching here. In a prefect world that'd be great but this is the real world. There really was nothing wrong with the OP! I understood it just fine and was able to answer the question with no problem. I also think that anyone that took 2 seconds to read it should have understood as well. Also if there were a rule that you had to post links to back up every answer then I wouldn't have even posted the correct answer because I don't have time to track down links for simple questions that I know, I know the answer to.

Time to change things up

One of the problems I have with today's texting apps is that they are all essentially the same. Sure emoticons and group conversations are fun, but there is limited flexibility with what you can and can not do. For example, why can't we customize text layouts, embed youtube videos into our conversations, etc.
I came up with a solution by creating a basic, elementary texting app without any of the perks. What I want to do is get as much feed back as possible to build out the texting app that people want to use. Once users see that we take their ideas and implement them into the app, they will be more excited to share it with their friends.
So if anyone is interested in creating their own app, download Skoop Messenger in google play and let me know what you think. Check out the Skoop Messenger Facebook page for details.
Not sure I understand what you are proposing
that isn't already handled by email and/or IM?
looks a lot like the other sms/text apps out there already. not sure whats different.
There's a very good reason that they're all essentially the same and that's because of the age old saying -
If it's not broke, don't fix it!

With generic things like texting, the majority of people don't like change. Texting on phones is nice and simple and if too many features are added, texting will become much harder work than it needs to be.

I would like to see a talk to text app that actually works good, with the option to talk letters instead of words, another option would be like Xbox 360 where you can leave a voice message or video message, all in the same app, Maybe a way to customize and use a graphic signature instead of a text signature. Changing font of texts or colors, stuff like that I can see being used. Maybe having some music in the background when you are reading or have a text message open. A translater built in to the app, so if someone sends you a message in Chinese, you can press a button and the text then converts in english. Just throwing some ideas out there.
I don't buy into that " if it a broke dont fix it" Where would we be today if we did not constantly look to improve things? Probably in a cave beating each other over the heads with clubs and worshipping fire. This thread was started becuase someone asked for ideas on improving text messaging and all the responses have been anti-productive. Use your imagination people.

Mine wasn't anti-productive. It was truthful.
Off-topic - Even if we were still cave people, would that really be a problem? Of course not, because we'd be used to that. Yeah, mankind strides to improve things, but at lot of the time, the situation with this thread included, it's not needed.

Relax guys.
I have to agree with both. If it's not broken in any way, why fix it - it might cause problems there weren't there in the first place. The main reason something is popiular is because it works. But then again, there's always room for improvement/innovation, right? I mean, that's how we got our devices now.
On topic: i can't find the app.
Sorry for butting in. It's just my opinion.

Hello,
The problem is that I found beautiful wallpapers but did not want to use them the way it was proposed, would save them and use on my phone without the need for them to be automatically exchanged as it consumes a lot of battery of my mobile phone.
Forgive me, just wish I could save them on my phone without any intent to distribute them, if necessary I even paid for it.
It would not be possible to make them as simple wallpapers so I can choose what I want to use the phone? without them change automatically?
I found them very beautiful and I think a shame you can not choose which put on one of the screens ... I have more of a Home on my phone so I would be able to choose wallpapers, but this is not possible because they automatically change as the time of day, I know some people like that but the problem is that consumes a lot of phone memory apart from that, I'd like a particular wallpaper was fixed.
It has some way to achieve this?
You faira that for me?

Well done Jenny. Your a legend for creating the app and sticking up for yourself. We need more creative and innovative artists like you that aren't chasing a buck but just want to simply be recognised for their work. I love your stuff. Keep it up!
Why are these 320x320 absolutely worthless you may have well not even posted them!!! At this size they are worthless to anyone that has a device that isn't 10 years old actually even the original androids like the hero or others had a screen resolution that was much larger than that! So where are the wallpapers that we can use???
