I want to get a second cable to charge my touch pro while I am at work, can I got and buy any 5-pin mini USB cable or do I have to order a HTC cable?
Standard cable will be fine
I've just looked at the USB cable Expansys sell (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=166227) but looking at the picture the plug is a differant shape to the socket on my Touch pro. I can't find anywhere that sells a cable that looks like the socket (rectangular with bottom right corner chamfered, I assume everyone is the same). Can anyone point me in the right direction?
You already have answer from ardsar
For charging standard mini-USB cable is ok.
Yes, and what I said was that a standard mini usb has a differant plug. How can I use it if it has a differant plug?
yes it does, but so did the HTC3300, but the charger and data cable use the 'standard' mini usb connector.
I have one (car charger and 'standard' usb cable) and they both fit fine, work fine and charge fine. so no need to worry.
Basically, a normal mini-usb plug will fit in HTCs proprietary socket

Thanks, looks like I need it spelling out for me!

Hi,
often I want to sort my videos recorded by the PVR with my Tablet (ed.: Easier seek and rename)
and watch it also on my big TV via HDMI (less complicated atm then to stream it).
So I need the USB-Stick connected to it and the HDMI, too.
Is there some kind of adapter providing this with the SGN10.1 ?
Regards
Splotz
Not possible ?
ed.:
I found the pinout of the SGT10.1.
edit: Its SGT 7", but maybe the same pinout

Looks like it could be possible to use "all" things..
Hope there will come a dock or keyboard dock to use it like a full port netbook.
Or is there already a multimedia dock available ?
Don't think so.
Something like that for the Note 10.1... wanna have...

(these pins are different, but it should be easy to build something similiar if samsung did not "lock it down" in some way)
ed.:
Here is something about how to build your own cables.

The only thing I really liked about asus TF300 was the ability to easily connect usb hdd (even ntfs) to the dock while it was connected to TV through micro-hdmi. I set up a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and managing the tablet on the tv was a peace of cake. But I returned it because the performance sucks on TF300. I really wish there were some similar dock for the note tab too.

I think the Note can connect to the allshare cast dongle with is wireless mirroring. To basically the same thing. Or if you have a newer Samsung tv it connects wirelessly. to it as well.
Not sure if you can connect a usb hdd to the Note though through the usb connector.

Thx, thats true.
But I am looking for hardware connectors for HDMI, USB, Charging and Audio at the same time. Like a "real" Multimedia Docking Station / Cable.
Usable everywhere with HDMI TVs, etc...
(Maybe the SGN10.1 has also analog TV+Audio out as I saw some adapters for Galaxy Tab with these connectors)
Soo, it's half a year later... I'm looking for the same solution as the OP... I want to be able to connect my Note to a HDMI monitor, then have at least 2 usb ports (mouse and keyboard, third one would be nice) and be able to charge it at the same time. I'm looking online for a cable that would allow that but it seems impossible. Is there any hope for Note to be an interactive center?
There is one solution though... I could buy the wireless hdmi dongle, then bluetooth mouse and keyboard (does Note support 2 devices through BT at the same time?) and thus leave the charging port free but that's not so good option considering that I wouldn't be able to plug even USB stick through such setting. Still, that would cost a lot more than I'm willing to pay for it since I don't have BT keyboard nor mouse and the wifi gadget is too expensive if you ask me.
hdmi and usb at same time?
the diagam posted under 'build your own cables' shows all the connections on the 30 pin connector, but doesnt yet show which wires hook to an hdmi cable, or how to hook up hdmi.
further confusing is the fact that none of the labels for the pins on the samsung connector match any of the signals listed in the hdmi Wiki page.
would someone who has opened an hdmi adapter or dock please post wiring info for an hdmi hookup?
please? or perhaps high res photos of both sides of a dock connector board?
Ok...so I have ordered 3 different adapters for my samsung galaxy note 10.1, ive tried it when it was rooted and on stock, nothing works, basically i get the usb adapter, plug it in, and the ps3 controller works for like 2 hours...then doesn't work on any of the adapters, it stops reading the ps3 controller and says its a high power device and that's it, , it think it stopped after the controller conected to the ps3 again? can someone please tell me what to do? ! im just fed up!
I use a USB OTG cable and find it only works with devices that don't require power from the USB to work. Maybe a ps3 controller needs an external power supply.

maybe, but it's so frustrating because i saw youtube tutorials and tutorials on here about what to do even with xbox controllers, im just having no luck with it at all, doesn't even allow me to do it wirelessly, but usb memory sticks work fine just the controllers...
I'm not sure if this would work but since you have got 3 cables experimenting with one wouldn't be a great loss...
Usb cables have 4 connections. 2 are data 1 is +5v and one ground -
If you cut about half way into one of your USB OTG cables and found the +5v and ground - cables and cut them so your tablet can't see a load then with another USB cable (male plug side only) connected the +5v and Ground - only to the female side of your USB OTG only so it could power the ps3 controller.
Then you would plug the extra USB plug into another USB socket like a PC or laptop or similar to power the ps3 controller.
Just an idea.
Edit: Or just find the red cable in one of your USB OTG cables and cut it. You will have to charge the usb controller another way though.
Your PS3 controller is attempting to charge its battery from the USB port/OTG connector. The port can only supply amperage for so long before protection circuitry kicks in and keeps itself from melting down. Atleast that's the way I would do it if I were an electrical engineer
Yes even data cards do not work
I find I can use memory sticks OK but anything that draws a lot of current gets the (in)famous "high power USB device" notification...
It's a pain in the bum as I would like my $600 Note to use the 1Tb NTFS drive my $400 A501 uses with no problem whatsoever...
Today there are whole host of usb powered devices some are good and some are cheap may be the concept Samsung had was to make sure some device does not pull power more then the tablet can provide and in turn does not overcook some of the components so that have built in a failsafe may be because the single port does multiple functions this has been provisioned
Yeah but when I used a powered HDD it fried not only my Note10.1 but also the portable HDD too... Not happy...
I think it killed the battery to be honest as it got REALLY hot and the battery dropped from almost fully charged to depleted in about 15 minutes... Also killed the digitiser but the pen still worked. Turned off and left overnight and tab was completely dead next morning....
Very expensive paper weight...:crying:
So I had to go out and get another one, this time 32gb 3g instead of 16gb (eating rice and tuna for the next month or 2)...
Won't be connecting another drive any time soon...
thanks
Hi guys
What are you using to power your Tab S and have a hard drive etc connected
at the same time?
Looking for the smallest possible option to limit bulkiness
Thanks!!
what about this cable.

John.
Yeah looks good....what cables are you guys using for charging and host at the same time?
I heard its not recommended to use an external hard drive without supplying power to the Tab S
Yeah, your right about using an external power supply when using an portable hdd with your tablet as it uses too much power by the hdd, the cable i linked above has an microusb socket for you to plug your tablet usb power adaptor into.
John.
The Y-OTG cables supply power to the OTG device (e.g. SD card USB reader) but not concurrently to the Tab S. Basically all they do is reduce power drain on the TabS. The previous comment to try to use a powered USB hub or a self powered USB device is good advise.

I have to resist the urge to go cheap on power adapters, after i had an car and an mains adapter start smoking in a week and nearly blew-up my HTC M7, I have been looking at the Belkin USB Adapter 2.4amp it comes with an 25.000 damage warranty, they cost between 15-20£ in the UK.

Have you tried the ones on aliexpress.com??
They say its otg and charges at the same time
Samsung tablets no longer supports this function that I know of. They used to have a dock mode that would do usb host charge and hdmi out ending with note 8. I tried all types of resistors and cables so far the lava adapter is the only one that worked. It's a solid 1amp charge with usb function. I wasted more money making and buying cables that said worked but never did. If u want ou cheap buy a usb host cable put a 1ohm to 10k potentiometer in between ground and Id pin turn it slow til u see usb host triggered on the tablet but again it could be a waste of money and not work. I had a tab pro trigger usb host and charge that way but was very unstable current. Any questions let me know.
Hi.
In the user manual it says that the touchscreen my act-up while it is used while the tablet is charging if the power supply is unstable.
A quick Google show this is an common issue for a lot of brands of tablet/phones

Never had a issue I bought the lava 3 port silmulcharge sts 3u it has 3 usb host ports I use one for usb dac 1 for ireless mouse/keyboard 1 for flashdrive. It was made for kiosks to always be plugged in and charging according to the guy at lava I talked to. You have to have a dba to get it direct and the shipping is alot from Canada to us so buy from amazon.
so i compete in a car audio budget limited class in the UK
i am looking for a hens tooth i think
so my requirements are ideally 7-8" tablet with usb ideally c so i can use my usb c hub with a topping D10 dac and also use usb audio player pro to get bit perfect output from the tablet via the topping D10, along with insert usb sticks in the hub to play music from (i have a usb extension lead to a panel mount socket on the centre console so i can hide the hub
under 150 if possible, but if the usb c causes grief at this price point i can go to micro usb as long as the device supports charging and otg at the same time
so far i have tried a galaxy tab a 10.1 t510 which did work, but was a bit too big, i have also tried a lenovo tab 4 plus 10" and this also works with my u green hub and the topping D10, however both were too big and i wanted a more compact tablet
i also had to modifiy the wiring to the hub with a relay on the power side of it to prevent the hub draining the battery while the tab is in standby overnight
so i then have in my possesion a amazon 8 hd plus... how simple is it to make something that works? so if i plug my hub in i can get music from the topping into the car, if i plug the charger into the hub i cant get the tablet to charge (sort of although it was very slow if working at all) via the hub like the samsung and lenovo do.... if i unplug the hub and plug it back in it then charges and i cant see the topping... i did kind of find a solution, if i plug a micro usb charger into the hub with a wireless charger on the end and connect the topping the topping makes sound, and also then position the wireless charger at the rear of the tablet i can get sound and also charge... however it didnt seem to want to go past 42% so i suspect the amazon is going to be a fail and get returned, its ideal at 110 quid or whatever it cost
i understand most samsungs with micro usb will actually charge and otg at the same time, so a tab a 8" 2019 would be a solution i think... but now ive bought 3 tablets and an ipad (these do solve my issue but i need an ipad mini 2 16gb without a knackered lightening port... got one off ebay that wouldnt charge already... but they do give bit perfect output but cant use a usb stick for music input... hence the android tablet still appealing)
any suggestions for my requirements are welcomed!
basically 7-8" devices with usb c that will work with my hub, or micro usb that support otg and charging at the same time
for daily use i will also use my iphone XR 256gb into a second topping D10 as i can then get bit perfect tidal stuff, and store it on the device as signal can be hit or miss around my way
