[Q] Is it possible to connect USB-Stick and HDMI at the same time? (eg. dock) - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
often I want to sort my videos recorded by the PVR with my Tablet (ed.: Easier seek and rename)
and watch it also on my big TV via HDMI (less complicated atm then to stream it).
So I need the USB-Stick connected to it and the HDMI, too.
Is there some kind of adapter providing this with the SGN10.1 ?
Regards
Splotz

Not possible ?
ed.:
I found the pinout of the SGT10.1.
edit: Its SGT 7", but maybe the same pinout

Looks like it could be possible to use "all" things..
Hope there will come a dock or keyboard dock to use it like a full port netbook.

Or is there already a multimedia dock available ?

Don't think so.

Something like that for the Note 10.1... wanna have...

(these pins are different, but it should be easy to build something similiar if samsung did not "lock it down" in some way)
ed.:
Here is something about how to build your own cables.

The only thing I really liked about asus TF300 was the ability to easily connect usb hdd (even ntfs) to the dock while it was connected to TV through micro-hdmi. I set up a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and managing the tablet on the tv was a peace of cake. But I returned it because the performance sucks on TF300. I really wish there were some similar dock for the note tab too.

I think the Note can connect to the allshare cast dongle with is wireless mirroring. To basically the same thing. Or if you have a newer Samsung tv it connects wirelessly. to it as well.
Not sure if you can connect a usb hdd to the Note though through the usb connector.

Thx, thats true.
But I am looking for hardware connectors for HDMI, USB, Charging and Audio at the same time. Like a "real" Multimedia Docking Station / Cable.
Usable everywhere with HDMI TVs, etc...
(Maybe the SGN10.1 has also analog TV+Audio out as I saw some adapters for Galaxy Tab with these connectors)

Soo, it's half a year later... I'm looking for the same solution as the OP... I want to be able to connect my Note to a HDMI monitor, then have at least 2 usb ports (mouse and keyboard, third one would be nice) and be able to charge it at the same time. I'm looking online for a cable that would allow that but it seems impossible. Is there any hope for Note to be an interactive center?
There is one solution though... I could buy the wireless hdmi dongle, then bluetooth mouse and keyboard (does Note support 2 devices through BT at the same time?) and thus leave the charging port free but that's not so good option considering that I wouldn't be able to plug even USB stick through such setting. Still, that would cost a lot more than I'm willing to pay for it since I don't have BT keyboard nor mouse and the wifi gadget is too expensive if you ask me.

hdmi and usb at same time?
the diagam posted under 'build your own cables' shows all the connections on the 30 pin connector, but doesnt yet show which wires hook to an hdmi cable, or how to hook up hdmi.
further confusing is the fact that none of the labels for the pins on the samsung connector match any of the signals listed in the hdmi Wiki page.
would someone who has opened an hdmi adapter or dock please post wiring info for an hdmi hookup?
please? or perhaps high res photos of both sides of a dock connector board?

[Q] galaxy tab plus P6200 otg + RCA cable work?

Hi Gurus,
1 Question, I have seen many post on HDMI cables to plus & it works but I have a question on RCA cables.
I understand that those ebay & amazon selling Galaxy tab P1000 RCA cable will not work, so I have thought about this & in case someone have tried,
If i get a Samsung Galaxy Tab USB Adapter
(SAMSUNG TO FEMALE USB ADAPTER CONNECTOR GALAXY TAB ) & connect to
3-RCA to USB ADAPTER which amounts is <$10 USD
Can this work on the TV if connected.
I 'll be cool if it works, we can play movies & stuffs...
thanks!
150 viewers & 0 takers? well, i have ordered the RCA cable..once arrived..we can tell...
No it absolutely won't work. RCA is analog SD video. USB is digital data. The cables are designed for very peculiar equipment that has the ability to output video that way, not generic USB equipment. Heck, not even normal USB video cards work on Android, and this isn't even that.
have got the RCA cable for galaxy P1000...it did not work for plus..but i can open up the connector & resolder the wiring based on the 30 pin schematic..
anyone know for RCA connection..what should the pin connection be for audio & video...if it works out..then we can have RCA cable which is cheaper & hdmi still have to get a cable for hdmi itself...& frame lag ...
audio works
I have a p1000 cable with RCA video audio out and USB connection the audio and charge works great but no video.tested on 10.1, 8.9, and 7+

It's still an analog cable. Unless you can get the tablet to push an analog video signal, this won't work.
but comparing tab plus & tab 7.0, tab 7 P1000 can work with RCA cable & schematically, they look the same...so is it the software which defers the plus from working? I have ordered the hdmi dock as well, but it be glad for everyone if we can make this happens...
if the P1000 can work RCA...
P6200 should too...
I understand that in P1000 there is this TV out settings,
can this "app" be exported to tab plus...?
Just an update to the above for anyone want to know about getting the tv connection to work:
bought the desktop dock from ebay/amazon (OEM) about 25 bucks & a cheap min hdmi cable to work.
1 thing to notice though, charging cable to tab plus must be plug in to work or no signal will generate.
Also when running tv shows from plus, streaming Tv will be slower than usual when connected to TV somehow...
When disconnected, streaming is normal, when connected, streaming is slower but will still get to show on TV connection.
Also, when running certain program in portait mode, tv still show landscape even though auto-rotating is enabled (or disable), tried both ways,
so it shows that it only support landscape mode.
not sure on HDTV adapater though...only experienced with desktop dock of galaxy tab 7.0 (this work for my plus 7.0)

hdmi tv-out cable

wondering if anyone has used a miniusb to hdmi cable for their touchpad to play on their tv.
I'm asking because I did this on my toshiba thrive and I'm hooked now :S and want to do same with touchpad if possible
I can find some cable/adapter fairly cheap online so if it works, i'd get one
something like this http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Female-Mini-Male-Adapter/dp/B000TYL27M since I already have a hdmi cable so no need to buy another if an adapter would work
edit: i'm also wondering because a quick search said it wasn't possible but i also see this page that lists product as working with touchpad :S http://www.uzid.com/wholesale-hp-touchpad-hdmi-micro-to-hdmi-lcd-3ft-adapter-cable-cord-link-1.html
What you are looking for is USB MHL since the Touchpad has no HDMI port only micro USB, but the Touchpad does not support this feature.
hm ok thanks , maybe i'll look into those hmdi android dongles i see in marketplace then.

The USB port on the HP Touchpad is barely USB OTG host compliant to connect USB devices, like keyboard, mouse, flash memory, etc. It is not USB HML capable, meaning there is no circuitry available to route video out the DATA+ / DATA- wires of the USB port.
There is no USB Dongle, or cable, that can do what you want. HP Touchpad does not support USB to HDMI.

I think he means to get an android tv dongle. They are little android devices with HDMI out and usb input, usually one of those 1Ghz A10 processors and 1Gb RAM. Neat little things, but my phone has MHL.
the mk802 is what you're talking about. there are a bunch of new versions comming out all the time. http://rikomagic.co.uk/forum, and http://miniand.com/forum are good places to get support and talk about these new devices.
Too bad we can't have HDMI out, Touchpad would do well as replacement for my media player

[Q] Tablet for car use - smooth mkv, usb otg + hdmi out?

Hi,
I am looking for tablet to use in my car - I want it to be a multimedia device used for playing audio /or/+/ video (outputting it to rear-seat monitors as well), being ready for usb stick connection anytime and have dvb-t tuner connected 24/7.
Now after a long search I cannot really find a tablet that's around 7-8 inches, is powerful enough to handle full hd mkv's, and have mini hdmi along with double micro-usb otg, so I can have both usb stick and dvb-t tuner connected, and still have car charger attached to it, so I thought someone here may be able to help.
Anyone?
how about this tablet?
http://www.amazon.com/PPTab%C2%AE-Inch-Android-4-2-Tablet/dp/B00KAJ9444/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1401839610&sr=8-9&keywords=hdmi+tablet
That won't work smoothly with 1080p high-bitrate video for sure
I gotta admit there's [probably] no high-end tablets with separate hdmi out currently on the market, I keep searching and searching and nothing comes up...
ntdm 3000 is a cheap chinese tablet which i use its great for 1080p on bs or mx player,.
idont know if its hdmi though.
Yeah, it doesn't.
The point it it does not need to be cheap - but there's none with hdmi out.
Found some of the tablets by "KURGER & MATZ" to have 2 micro usb ports but... they don't have both gps and bluetooth

Nexus 7 2012 has mhl (HDMI through USB port) and DVT tuner support and has car specific roms . Samsung tablets (8 inch and up) all have capability also . older 7 inchAcer a100 has HDMI and a500 10 inch. Nexus 7 2013 has slimport (newer HDMI through USB) capability. Slim port and mhl plug are only around 10- 30 $ nexus's and Samsung both have USB host and charging at the same time capability (need for DVT support) there is still active development on the old nexus its the one I'd go with. And its pretty easy to solder to the volume and power buttons so u can permently mount in your dash...
HDMI throught usb doesn't do the job for me.
I found only one tablet actually that fills my needs - Chineese PIPO T9.
One thing that sucks, is that it has 4.2.2 and they don't plan on any updates to kitkat.
Aside from that, it has everything needed.
http://www.pipo-store.com/pipo-t9-t...hone-call-tablets-gps-bluetooth-2gb-32gb.html
Separate charging port, mhl-host usb, hdmi, aux, octa-core.
Anyone has better ideas?
In case anyone googling the topic wants to know how I sorted it out in the end:
Bought PIPO M7T tablet (t9 turned out to not have separate hdmi out),
upgraded it with stock rom to 4.4.2.
32 GB MicroSD.
Full HD, even with very high bitrate plays smoothly there.
Has usb otg, hdmi, aux and dc connectors.
Got headphones out connected to aux in my car,
HDMI out heads to hdmi->av converted and goes to car av inputs.
A USB 2.0 4x hub is connected to micro usb, to which I have connected dvb-t tuner, hdmi->av converter power cord and any pendrives I want.
Tablet is constantly connected to external power using DC in.
Works superb, couldn't been better.

Multimedia Dock for Galaxy S6 Edge

Hello All,
I'm a new owner of a Galaxy S6 Edge, coming from a S4.
I had a Samsung multimedia dock for my S4, that had 3 USB ports, a HDMI Out port and a 3.5mm audio Out port. I purchased a wireless keyboard / track pad and plugged it into one of the USB ports on the dock to make typing texts & navigating the phone easier while at my desk.
Unfortunately, the male micro-USB plug on the Samsung multimedia dock does not fit the micro-USB port on my S6, rendering my wireless USB keyboard useless.
I've looked all over the internet and can't seem to find a similar docking station for the S6. Does anyone know of a docking station that has USB ports that will work with my USB wireless dongle & keyboard?
Much appreciated!
Hi,
Thanks for your report. It seems strange to me that the S6 micro USB port is different, should be the same old 11 pin that the Samsung used. Stupid question, but did you try inserting it the other way around, with the phone back facing you?
For your exact problem, with the keyboard, I assume the old USB On The Go adapter will work on S6, same as it does on S4, S3, Note2, etc. It's this one: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ET-R205UBEGSTA .
There's also a HDMI adapter, http://www.samsung.com/de/consumer/mobile-devices/accessories/connectivity/EE-HN910FWEGWW. Maybe those 2 can be combined, instead of using the dock.

Thanks for the reply!
Way ahead of ya on making sure the micro-USB plug on the docking station is facing the right direction. I tried docking it backwards and the plug n' port absolutely do not fit that way. It's facing the right direction, just that the port on the S6 is not able to accept the plug on the docking station....despite both being Micro-USB. I did notice, however, that the plug on the docking station had two small grooves indented in it, that looked different than any other standard micro-USB cable plug. It could be that those indentions made the device proprietary to the Samsung range of phones that released during the S3 / S4 years (including the Note 2 & 3). If you look at the compatibility of that docking station on Samsung's website, you'll notice that only the S3, S4, Note 2 & Note 3 come up.
I suppose the USB dongle you linked could work, but reading the device laying down flat, while trying to type on the keyboard might be problematic. You'd think that someone would make a universal micro-USB docking station with USB ports...but I haven't been able to find it.
I'm pretty sure the S6 no longer supports MHL which probably explains why the dock doesn't work either.
You can still go USB OTG, which should let you use your keyboard and trackpad mouse devices.

Interesting.....so are you saying that the micro-USB male plug on the Samsung docking station also had MHL connectivity integrated in it, which is why it's form factor is slightly different than a standard micro-USB plug?
The only times I've ever seen a MHL port on mobile devices was as a separate, similar looking, but different port than the micro-USB port.
I supposed all the wireless mirroring tech out now makes including hardware mirroring functionality not needed.

That's correct, it has to since it offers an HDMI out on the dock.
http://www.thegadgetqueen.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/5-pin-vs-11-pin.jpg
You're also probably right in your assumption that MHL isn't really needed anymore due to the widespread wireless screen mirroring technologies.

Dextop setup...

Starting a thread to see what kind of kooky and cool ideas peeps have come up with for their setup.
I just bought another Logitech MX570 trackball mouse. My 3rd. I like to go back and forth between traditional mice (MX Performance) and trackball so I don't get carpal tunnel and tendonitis. I'm up in the air about the dedicated keyboard. I will probably get the Logitech K800 as that has been my favorite so far. I would like to try the Craft but too expensive.
I know many of you are just going straight usb-c to HDMI adapter and using Bluetooth accessories. Those are welcome too. It would be really nice if Logitech came out with a sweet sweet keyboard with touchpad built in. There are a couple but the cheap one is just that, cheap and low quality. I bought my mom the K400 and it works fine for her but not for me. Logitech needs to step up their game on a keyboard with touchpad built in.
I am also using Logitech because of the unifying receiver so only USB port is taken for 2 accessories. Have not decided on a USB thumb drive yet.
What setups are you running for productivity with DEX? Please share so there is a thread peeps (that actually use the search function) can come and see what options there are to fit their workflow. Or haven't thought of.
I will update later today see if my USB controllers work for emulators and what the latency is, which I am hoping is just as good as mouse input. I was expecting critical latency that would make the experience bad.
Anybody try with a USB powered monitor yet?
I'm sorry, but..... pics or it didn't happen, right?
I invested in this dex stuff just as a hobby. I already have 4 pc’s plus a laptop and an iPad Pro 12.9 i carry with me daily.
I passed on it with the note 8 but thought to give it a go the note 9.
I also use the mxperformance mouse for my pcs but i picked up a jelly comb foldable portable wireless keyboard. It has a click-style mouse pad and the keypad is pleasant to use. I also picked up the dex pad , hdmi 2.0b latest spec hdmi cable.
I guess a good way to use this setup will be when I download films to the device. Rather than copy the file over to the pc, i can just connect the dex to the display and have better flexibility.
I found the jelly comb folding keyboard to be crap. Double characters everywhere. Moved to a generic wireless mouse on one of the USB ports and an MS folding BT keyboard. It's replaced my work laptop for 80% of tasks. Oh and powering the HDMI adapter by a Nintendo switch USB C power supply as it kicks out 2.6A which is enough to charge the phone at the same time.
I probably won't post a pic (if I even remember) until Friday or Saturday. I think I will try using it one day and a USB 3 thumb drive. I think DEX only supports USB 2 though. Another missed opportunity by Samsung to make this an even better pseudo desktop experience. Did Sammy use 3 or 3.1 for their USB C? Having two or even one USB 3 A port would've been sweet for local storage. Between a Logitech unifying receiver and a SanDisk UltraFit USB 3 drive and you're talking one smaller desktop.
Samsung could make some corny commercials pitting it against Intel NUC boxes like their Apple commercials. ???
Hi guys I have my dex set up, however I'm looking for a Bluetooth keyboard my monitor only has an hdmi, vga connection so I need advice on what will be my best option maybe I should get a cable with a USB receiver for an wireless keyboard any inputs are welcomed thanks.
I'm using my Note9 with Dex running on HP X3 lap dock. Great setup for travel but also when I need to edit things locally on the phone----tasker for example. Everything works on the lap dock including sound. Track pad works but could be better.

Woah, you have a working sound for hp elite? Is there any special way to get it?
I had picked up a DeX dock from Amazon for 60 bucks. I used a logitech anywhere BT mouse and the blue BT keyboard. Mouse and keyboard work great. Resolution looks crappy, seem kinda blurry for a 1080p screen. Still needs work, I was hoping to get the DeX working good enough to use as a htpc streamer for my living room TV. Still fun to play around with tho.
Sent from my Samsung SM-N960U1 using XDA Labs
does DeX work with any cheap HDMI to usb C adapter that supports 4k and 60 Hz? There are some on eBay for 7 bucks
dex output is crystal clear for me. I have used this on an lg 4K 27 inch monitor and my old school plasma Panasonic 3D display from 2011
I have a late spec hdmi 2.0b cable and again the resolution is not blurry at all. Plenty of videos on the web to also show the clarity .
Yes dex works with a regular hdmi spec cable usb c to hdmi. I have also used dex with just a cable (waiting on the pad tho show up)
What happens when incoming call?
Hi. Not sure where to post this. Thinking of jumping from iPhone to Note9
Can somebody tell me if I will be able to use the Note9 as a normal handset with an incoming call? (While in Dex). Everything I see indicates the acutal Note9 runs independent when docked but I can't find any example of making/receiving a call on one.
I want to use a USB extension cable and just be able to use the phone like normal when connected to Dex. Not sure what happens to the audio if I'm also using external speakers via Dex.
Thanks!

I've received several phone calls when on DeX.. Since I'm working in a personal room, I'm just answering the phone calls using speakerphone.. If you're using external speaker, the audio will be routed there (I once used my UE Boom 2 speaker for answering call)
thanks.
I know I'm still connected to Dex via a USB-C extension cable but I'd like to be able to just pick up the phone and use it "privately" like normal. Is that possible?
I believe something changed with the Note9 making it work differently with Dex.
