[Q] Screen going in sleeping mode in certain positions - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
Have had this trouble since buying it new. Only 2 months old. Screen suddenly gets black and going in sleeping mode when you put the Tablet flat down. This must be maybe something with some sencor. Like that sencor for the cover when putting down. There is some magnet sencor i Think. Anybody else experience this same trouble? Any solution?
Thank's
Galaxy Note Pro 12.2

Are you using a cover with a magnet/sleep feature? I've tried a few of them, and they all make my tablet sleep when I flip the cover open and flat against the back of the tablet

I have Samsung Book Cover for my NP 12.2 with that magnet/sleep feature. Never noticed that it would turn screen off when it's not closed. Just to be sure I tried and no matter what I did or how hard pushed it towards the back of tablet, screen stayed on.
Cover I am using is Model: EF-BP900BBEGWW
This model ends with *UJ. Don't know whats the difference but at fast look, it looks the same and I can't be happier with it

Yes, i am using the original thin magnet cover made by Samsung. Can it be that really? The frånt of the cover goes on back of the tablet when opened so how can that affect?

The magnet's effect goes out in all directions right? If that particular magnet is strong enough, it can cause the magnetometer to react, whether the flap is in front or back.

There are several threads on this issue. If you put pressure on the edge of the screen with the Samsung cover folded back, the note can go into sleep mode. I almost returned my note pro because it kept going to sleep while using LectureNotes. I changed covers and haven't had an issue since.

That is exactly what happens. Cover on back and it's enough with some small pressusure in some places on the front and the screen goes black. So what cover would you recomend? Because now it's second time i have it back to the shop for fixing and this time i told them that if it continues then i wanna return the Tablet and cash back
.
Thank's for responding about this...

I'm using the WAWO Smart Fold cover and haven't experienced these issues nor can I replicate them.
It's a $9 case on Amazon as well so shouldn't set you back much.
One thing I can say about the case is that the magnet isn't particularly strong and feels just strong enough to hold shut but it's easily opened when you want to. It may be too weak to trigger the sensor when folded back.

Okay thank's for the info. Amazon is out of my reach since i live in Scandinavia but i look around on Ebay

I was having the same issue with the Samsung cover, As soon as I got my mine tempered glass in I just ripped the flap off the case and use it as a hard shell cover.

Same situation here.. im not gonna switch cases though so I need to consider what to do

I received a couple of reports of device going to sleep while using LectureNotes. It turned out that the problem occurs due to S-pen usage (this is why you observe it with LectureNotes) if Samsung's AirView is enabled; the problem did not occur anymore after disabling this service.

oh i see. therefore, what would be a sustainable solution, could be to disable when taking notes in LN.
otherwise i thought it had something to do with the fact that i actually use a second s pen while the first one is docked

S-View Cover Interferes the Compass

I love my original s-View cover but it interferes my s4 compass especially with the cover is folded to the back of the phone. I can clearly see how the cover changes the direction of the Google Map compass while flipping the cover.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
That's because there's a magnet in it to activate the hal sensor to tell the screen to go to s-veiw window
If you take a magnet and put it where the sensor is on the phone with the s-veiw cover open your screen will change like if the cover is closed

If the S-View covers work with the aid of a magnet, how does this one work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281100942769
As I understand, no magnets here and yet they claim it has all S-View abilities!
PS ... anyone bought this cover? If yes, is this latched on to the built in battery cover or does it reduce bulk by replacing the battery cover?
Thanks

Got to have a magnet to trigger the S4 S-View mode on the display. Doesn't say it's got a magnet in the listing, then again doesn't say it hasn't.... Looks like it's got kind of a tpu case which snaps round the phone and the cover is glued onto that.

I have this cover. It does not replace the battery cover, but fits over it. However, the "leather" is very thin, so the case doesn't really add much bulk. The s-view function works perfectly. However, I won't continue to use this case once a better s-view case comes out. The part that holds the phone in the case doesn't cover the corners of the phone, so they are vulnerable if the phone is dropped. And, the front of the case could easily open if the phone is dropped, so there is no protection for the front of the phone, either. I really prefer flip cases, because I ruined an expensive phone by dropping it, so I want something that protects the phone. I really like the s-view option, but this isn't the case for me.
I got a cheap copy of the S-View which fits perfectly and works just as good. Unfortunately it seems the magnet is too strong because the S-View mode activates when I fold the cover around the back!
Is there any way to fix this?
Yeah do what I did, take it off, throw it into the corner in disgust, and put a tpu flip case on instead.

Dude, do you have a link to the one you bought - does it work just like the S-View?
I have the cover from Tridea. Got it yesterday.
It is actually quite nice and protects the phone better than the original S-view case. However, this is magnetic too and makes the compass more or less unusable.

I'm wondering this too. I paid $7, versus $60, so I can't complain, but I would LOVE to find out that the authentic ones actually fix this critical issue.
Why not buy an original one, guaranteed to work. I have had mine since day one and works great, even when flipped back. I can post a video. If need be.

Maybe it is different for you, but the compass on the S4 sucks with or without the S-Cover. It constantly need recalibrating on many of these phones.

I agree. What is the reason for this though? Is it a software problem that could be fixed with an update, or a hardware problem which is pretty much permanent?
My S4 S-View (original) cover definitely interferes with compass readings. As this is an original Samsung case I find this quite incredible how this has been overlooked.
With the case on and open, my compass app would always point in the same direction.
Gradual movement of the front cover from the open to closed position would quickly alter the compass bearing etc.
I decided to ditch the S-View cover for the standard one for the following reasons:
1. Affects compass bearings as described
2. Unable to see notification LED when the cover is closed. (it is in fact not enabled at all when its closed)
3. I'd rather see my full screen caller ID on an incoming call than the small S-View window. I know if you open the case you will then see the caller ID screen, but I'd prefer to see it from the offset.
Only drawback now is that I hate leaving the screen uncovered so I've put a screen protector on, and I can never get to fit one perfectly...I always seem to get one or two specs of dust that cause bubbles.

I am guessing it is a hardware issue because several people have the problem (there is a thread in the "general" section about it) and it doesn't seem to matter which app or APK is used with it, it has the same issues and needs to be recalibrated periodically to work properly.

Well, it's tough to purchase a legit one sometimes, and knowing IF that design flaw doesn't exist in an authentic version would make it worth it.
Edit:
Fixed it myself. I pried open the fabric, took out the magnet, put a nail between the magnet and the hammer to shatter it, and put back half a disc. Works perfectly.
I have the original S-view cover and if I slowly open or close the cover over the phone, the compass changes values, and I even got a notification in compass app regarding the magnetic field while playing with the cover.
Is there any way to repair this behavior while keeping the S-view functionality?

lol you must be a hell of sweater!
i'm currently using the s view cover, pretty inconvenient in a lot of ways. the only pro i see is it protects the glass and camera lens, and imo looks classy. the cons are way too much to list.
Currently using the sview case and I love it, keeps screen protected doesn't add bulk and no accidental unlocks and dials in pocket, I dont have any complains about it and im one of the ones that use to hate flip covers

I'm also sweating my thighs. My solution to that is make the front part of your phone (which includes the screen) face the outside part so that the back part is the one getting thr sweat from your thighs.

Remove magnet from Moko slim case

Has anyone removed the sleep/wake magnet from the Moko case yet? I just got mine in the mail and want to remove it but it seems pretty well integrated. I found where it is but can't tell if it runs along the whole length of the left side of the cover

It's only one small magnet, the size of an eraser. It's underneath the elastic handle. Rub your fingernail over the area and you'll slowly find a circular outline. Took 30 seconds to remove!
Sorry, I actually have the other moko case without the hand strap. The faux leather smart cover that looks similar to the poetic slim case. I found the sleep/wake magnets over the middle left side of the screen and removed them but the cover still sleep/wakes my screen. Don't understand how and why unless I missed some magnets

drag a magnet over the case and you should be able to find it.
may i ask why you want to remove it? the only tablet I've used that has a functional sleep cover has been my nook hd+. ipad and gn10.1 would have unusual drain when using it. my 500t has issues with waking up from sleep (all atom wintabs seem to) so i got rid of that magnet. never did get a case with a magnet for my 700t.

There are a number of threads on various forums concerning the Note 8 screen becoming dead to tactile input where the magnetic field of the cover is located. Interestingly, this has been noticed with the official Samsung book cover case.
What I have found using a Poetic case that has a metal (but not magnetic) clasp to keep the cover in the closed position activates the Note 8's sleep and wakeup modes just fine.

Can someone kindly point me to some of the threads discussing this? I did a Google search and only find where the magnets mess with the compass and S-pen in certain cases.
I've used the moko with s pen for over a couple of weeks and have noticed nothing. I've even scribbled all over the pad.....nothing. Great value.

To be quite honest, I just bought my note 8 used on ebay and got it literally yesterday. However, I have been reading a lot of reviews. I haven't heard of the battery being affected by them (apple uses similar covers with magnets), but I have heard of the magnets messing with the wacom tech the s-pen uses.

I have been using similar cover(white) since june.
only thing I did was take out the magnets from behind so that they don't interfere with s-pen.
The magnets are just not powerful enough to cause issues with battery(Li-ion/poly) if that all is your primary concern.
In Case if you want to take the magnets out,
just take tablet out, then use a small coin and put it on the tablet and coin should pretty much stick to where the magnets are. once you have nailed the location (small disc magnets), just use a cutter blade to slice the back paper/fabric s bit and you should be able to take out those discs.
put the tablet back in and should be good to go.
Do note that the side flap will stop working once you take magnets out.
thnks for rply

Here what I have done with flip case
I had my Note 8 in a magnetic case for six months with no problems of any kind. I checked it periodically to be safe, and even with a broken screen, the S-pen still works perfectly.
I think it depends on the case design and maybe how strong the magnet is. I tried a case I bought on Amazon that had the flap or buckle type design and it immediately caused problems writing on the screen. I scribbled the pen back and forth.
I'll try to attach a photo of it where you can clearly see the magnet distortion it left on the screen where the pen could not write. It went away after I removed the case.
I scribbled on the left side also because a magnet was there also that turned the tablet on and off, but that magnet caused no problem.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQ2Y71E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it has a on/off feature.
it uses a clasp to hold closed... not magnet.
I have heard a little about the magnet and issues with some digitizers.
it don't seem to affect it. how else can I tell when it causes problems?
will it be permanent?
how many magnets are on the case?
I thought there was only 1.. to do the on/off feature
I've been using this case for a year .. MOKO Slim Cover, without a single problem :

I'm guessing it's safe to use cases with magnetic covers as the majority of the probably use very low power magnets, which won't cause any interferance with your device.
Hi all,
Been using the official Flip Case with my Note 8.0 LTE and no battery issues at all.
I did notice that if the front cover is misaligned by even 1/2 a centimeter, it does activate the device, so make sure when you close it its not askew, even slightly.

Folio cases?

Hello,
Typically I just use my phones in the nude, but with my oneplus one I did enjoy occasionally using the OEM folio case in orange. I really do like my 6p, but its about the slipperiest thing I own (opo ruined me with that grippy housing) and it feels delicate. Does anyone know of a folio style case that can also reinforce the phones structure(so I can finally stick it in my pocket without worrying about bending)?
This is what I had for my opo

I'd be interested in this too, if it isn't too thick.
Google do sell an official folio case BUT I've heard many horror stories about it being far too tight on the phone and extremely difficult to remove, to the point of breaking the phone.

Does this case have a magnet to keep the flap closed? And does it put the phone to sleep or wake it up?
This is on my short list. I had seen it on Amazon
Unfortunately no to both of those. No magenta to keep it closed ( hate that). And nothing to put it to sleep. Wish it did have that tho. But I mostly care about keeping the screen protected and I hate face grease so lol

The valkyrie does have magnets to keep it closed BUT no magnet for wakeup/sleep function. The phone easily snaps into a tpu case that is sandwiched between a wrap-around cover, like a book, which gives it protection from both sides.
But I ultimately sent the valkyrie back because there are no holes for the front speakers/mics (the mics are in the speaker pits). This means you have to keep the cover opened to talk. And I just learned recently that if you try to be clever and flip the cover to the back, it will cover the rear-mic and that messes up the noise cancellation and makes you sound muffled. So you now have to talk on the phone holding it like an opened book.
I was seriously considering drilling speaker/mic holes and splicing in a magnet into the cover. But then I found this from tetded. It has a magnet for sleep/wakeup and speaker/mic holds. BUT no magnet to keep it closed and the cover doesn't extend to the back so the back is not as protected as the front. It also costs more since it's real leather.
I bought mine directly from the tetded site and it will ship from hong kong. They have other models for the 6p and some even come with a nice clasp to keep the cover closed, but no speaker/mic holes (why!!?)
