Am I the only one here who doesn't like Flip cases for S4?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
No,you're not. I don't like flip covers either.

Sometimes I take my phone out of pocket and I am then unable to take call because screen is unresponsive due to sweat in my thigh wetting the screen a bit. Flip covers might be use full then.

lol you must be a hell of sweater!
i'm currently using the s view cover, pretty inconvenient in a lot of ways. the only pro i see is it protects the glass and camera lens, and imo looks classy. the cons are way too much to list.
Currently using the sview case and I love it, keeps screen protected doesn't add bulk and no accidental unlocks and dials in pocket, I dont have any complains about it and im one of the ones that use to hate flip covers

I'm also sweating my thighs. My solution to that is make the front part of your phone (which includes the screen) face the outside part so that the back part is the one getting thr sweat from your thighs.

Hi there. I'm looking for underwater case for my nexus 4. I want to shooting fishes when will swiming with the skuba mask and the snorkel.

I would just buy an underwater camera? The pressure itself would break things in your Nexus.

your best bet if you want your phone with you is to buy a waterproof pouch like this one. Its not going to be very useful though since it will blur the camera, kill your touchscreen sensitivity and speakers. i guess it's still good to have your phone close to you for an emergency.
Thank you. what you mean when blur camera? Poor image quality when phone in this case?

yes the pouch is not fully transparent, its going to make your shots blurry. There are some cases for the iphone that are waterproof and with clear plastic so you can take pics but there's nothing like that for the N4. If you want to use it for pictures just get a waterproof camera, they are relatively cheap now and will take much better pics underwater than any phone with waterproof case.
edit : the only thing you can get that is made to fit the nexus 4 is this case(more of a plastic bag). It's a plastic bag with a hole in the back that you put your phone through and then stick a piece of plastic tape over it. Its not reusable and i wouldnt trust it to have it submerge in water.
Yeah I would recommend just getting an underwater camera, even a cheap disposable one over trying to use your phone.
The heavy duty plastic pouches work, but the touchscreen is not going to register very good through the plastic screen, especially with all the water around it interfering with the capacitive sensors, and the pouch itself will cause distortions and reflections on the captured pictures. So even if it did work the images would probably not be very clear.
Now I would recommend one of these pouches just to protect your phone from the sand/salt water. They would be fine to protect your phone while snorkeling and the pressures seen at that minimal depth would not harm the phone at all. Now if you tried to go scuba diving with just a pouch then you will most likely be buying a new phone. At those pressures water will find a way in and in extreme cases the pressure could cause some physical damage.
From personal experience a ziplock bag does NOT work very well even to just protect from getting splashed. They just are not durable enough to stand up to being in your pocket all day and staying closed/sealed.
Topic reminds me of one of the company's at CES this year, HZO protection or whatever. Hopefully the technology becomes standard for phones in the future.

Even with that protective coating Motorola advertises I would be concerned about salt water. That stuff is very corrosive and once the salt starts to crystallize I would worry that the coating could be compromised. Basically electronics and water, especially salt water, do not mix. I would think that if this coating was effective dive computers and lights would be using this instead of the heavy rubber gaskets and silicon grease that always seem to fail.
Motorola even just calls this "Splash protection"
invisible nano-coating splash protection inside and out

I ordered this for my S2 and the N4 fits in too.

Ok, i have purcrased the Salabox 3xl and the ipega.
the salabox fit well but there is some issue to push the power button. I use ipega with iphone 4 4s and 5. I made with it different videos. Search for "pinna marchera" on youtube. The s3 version fit very very very well on nexus 4 but i can't push the power button to out of the standby. Does somebody have any ideas? sorry for my english, i'm an italian boy.
I just noticed this morning that the housing that surrounds the lens is all scratched and scuffed. Phone is 2 weeks old, never dropped etc. I dont have a case for the phone so im guessing it was caused from being in my pocket. Has this happened to anyone else...its like I took sand paper to it.

I just noticed this scuffing too then realized there was a plastic covering I hadn't removed as you pointed out LOL...thanks!
Yeah, the plastic on the lens cover is very well placed and hard to even notice...but it does get scratched up pretty quickly.

It's up to you. Some users had a hole cut in the plastic for the lens, others had the plastic covering the lens. Most people take it off.

Just remove the battery cover and put some transparent tape on it, rub it a little and then peel it off, as easy as that.

Wow! Im a jacka$$. I checked for a sticker (not too well I guess). I figured it was a run of bad luck. Yesterday I was washing my harley after I installed a chrome LED brake light...the friggen sponge peeled off the chrome...or whatever it is.

I have been bothered by those damn scratches too! Then I saw a comment above about removing the plastic... I thought I had gotten all the packaging off but if you look closeley you will see the plastic scuffed ring in my photo. Glad I have that off now!!!
I'm thinking that plastic cover is the only thing keeping the lens off the surface when laying the phone down on anything "screen up".
It's a design flaw I suppose.
But I wouldn't take it off unless you have a case for your phone... Otherwise what's gonna keep the lens from physically touching the surface of the desktop or table when you lay your phone down screen up?

How did you get the sticker off? I thought a sticker was there but some scratching seemed to fail and made me think I was wrong. Any special techniques used to remove it?
Anyone experience any lens scratching after removing the sticker and not having a case?
Well we know everyones protective cover gets all scratched up, mine included.
When you lay the camera down on its back the whole weight of the camera rest on the lens kind of a kind of a crappy set up if you ask me
Its only safe to assume the lens would get scratched also

I stuck a piece of tape over mine and pressed it down really well then peeled it off and it the protective film came with it. I read it somewhere on here and gave it a shot and it worked.

Awesome! I'll give this a try. Thank you so much for your tip! Did you find that the camera lens touches the surface/gets scratched when you place the phone face up?
It's unfortunate the camera lens is designed to stick out past the backing slightly. It leads to scratches.
I think it's a result of thickness of the camera unit.
A nice fix with added benefit would be an OEM extended battery with battery cover to allow the lens to be inset from the backing.
I just picked up this case and really like it. And I had a screen protector on already so I popped out the otter box one. Seeing how it distorts the screen. Does everyone do this? Does it not protect it as much from drops? What's the downside?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
I did the same thing. And I asked the same question before I did it. It hurts nothing the one thing is dust may get in easier but hey you cares lol. Ive dropped mine twice since popping it out and so far so good. 1 drop from waist height, not secured in the holster :banghead: second drop from like 4 inches. All in all I love the defender plus they dont add a lot to the phone like the old defenders did.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah man I really like how slim this defender is. I'd love to see some drop tests done with it haha.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Just picked one up myself tonight. It's much thinner than previous defenders I've had and I really like it so far. I was planning on popping out the screen as well but it sits so tightly on the screen I can't even tell it's there.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
I popped mine out cuz I already have a screen protector of better quality. The otter box ones usually distort the screen. Specially.the nice 1080p display.

I just took mine off and i think its better cause i constantly change cases. The only reason im not using the defender too much is because the proximity sensor doesnt function that well. Do you guys experience taking a call and when you are about to end it and take it off your ear the screen does not come back on? I had to press the home button just to make sure the call has ended. Kinda sucks cause i love the case.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
Picked it up heavily discounted with my gift card I never used. All black was the first one they brought out from the back and its the one I wanted anyways. I have a cheap clear screen protector on (since I got the phone day 1) and the original defender case. Being a mechanic, I'd rather have protects from stains, grease, or any spills etc. than have a little noticeably clearer screen. Its also good cause If I decide to use a different case then I have a protector on it still. Love it so far.
I haven't experienced the "bubbles" people say I would get cause they never appeared. Probably cause this one is a very thin protector unlike some of the more expensive ones. Would recommend over Commuter series anyday, but if you just pop the defender screen off why wouldn't you guys just go with the commuter? Its cheaper and you are butchering a product meant for heavy abuse.
Because It still has more protection without screen protector from drops. Its a layered case with shock absorber.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Does the N5 come with a basic, from-factory film to protect the screen? If so, does it have random markings on it like the N4 did (example: volume). I would like to keep it on as long as possible before 3rd party screen protectors come on, but have yet to find any legitimate protectors yet.
It has nexus 5 right across the middle of it
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Says "nexus5" on it, right in the middle, but it's fine to keep on till you get your screen protector. I've left my own on, don't even have a Sim in there though so not even using it!! it's just sitting here.
Never used a screen protector on my phones. Main issue is dropping the phone and cracking the screen.

I like to use my phone without a case, but the stock battery cover has a low coefficient of friction. Also, I'm not a fan company logos.
The fix:
Using a Scotch Bright scoring pad I rubbed the cover, using even pressure, first vertically then horizontally. It took about 20 minutes to achieve the desired effect.
-phone now sticks to the hand
-company logos removed
-cover is the same color but less reflective
Looks good. I also like to use Plasidip

I too don't like using cases per se, but the only reason I do is because I worry that I'll scratch the camera lens as the stock battery cover practically sits flush with the lens itself.
Has anyone ever scratched their lens? I really want to take the slim skin/case thing I have off the phone but I know with my luck I'll scratch the camera lens the first time I put the phone down on my desk lol!
I don't like cases either but one you may like is the Spigen.com Neo Hybrid for our phone.
Very slim and light weight. It is just thick enough to keep the lens from contact and allows you to set the phone face down without touching.
I bought mine from Amazon.com for just over $20

The Neo Hybrid is a beautiful case. Stopped using it because it makes my phone skip out of my pocket when I workout.
