Remove magnet from Moko slim case - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Accessories

Has anyone removed the sleep/wake magnet from the Moko case yet? I just got mine in the mail and want to remove it but it seems pretty well integrated. I found where it is but can't tell if it runs along the whole length of the left side of the cover

It's only one small magnet, the size of an eraser. It's underneath the elastic handle. Rub your fingernail over the area and you'll slowly find a circular outline. Took 30 seconds to remove!

Sorry, I actually have the other moko case without the hand strap. The faux leather smart cover that looks similar to the poetic slim case. I found the sleep/wake magnets over the middle left side of the screen and removed them but the cover still sleep/wakes my screen. Don't understand how and why unless I missed some magnets

drag a magnet over the case and you should be able to find it.
may i ask why you want to remove it? the only tablet I've used that has a functional sleep cover has been my nook hd+. ipad and gn10.1 would have unusual drain when using it. my 500t has issues with waking up from sleep (all atom wintabs seem to) so i got rid of that magnet. never did get a case with a magnet for my 700t.

There are a number of threads on various forums concerning the Note 8 screen becoming dead to tactile input where the magnetic field of the cover is located. Interestingly, this has been noticed with the official Samsung book cover case.
What I have found using a Poetic case that has a metal (but not magnetic) clasp to keep the cover in the closed position activates the Note 8's sleep and wakeup modes just fine.

Can someone kindly point me to some of the threads discussing this? I did a Google search and only find where the magnets mess with the compass and S-pen in certain cases.

I've used the moko with s pen for over a couple of weeks and have noticed nothing. I've even scribbled all over the pad.....nothing. Great value.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 book cover case review with wake and sleep mode

Im really liking the wake and sleep feature on the Galaxy Note 8. This is a nice feature found on the iPad Mini and the Kindle Fire HD tablets.

Got the book cover case and really like the sleep and wake feature of it
To anyone who picked one up, how does it feel in terms of bulk? Also, when the cover is folded over, does it lay flush with the spine or does the flap stick out?

It is very thin, as thin as my nexus 4, and feels like a father compared to my original xoom
the cover is just like the s3 flip cover but it snaps on the back instead of replacing the battery cover
and it triggers auto on and off like the ipad smart cover
Caved in and picked up the cover on the way home today. Some initial thoughts:
1) The case adds no real bulk to the device itself. The backplate and the screen flap are both super thin, so even when folded over, it's doable for someone like me who hates cases.
2) Because its all so thin, however, it does feel sorta cheap. If this suffers from the same build issues I've read the S3 version has, I don't have high hopes that it's going to last long.
3) The screen on/off thing is awesome. The sensor part of this is actually along the spine, not the edge of the flap. Not a complaint, just an observation.
4) When folded over, there is a bit of a "lip" around the spine. I can't say I love this, but it doesn't really impact the way I hold the device.
5) The "stand" feature is alright and seems stable enough as long as you use it in the single position it was designed for. I do with it had a few more angle options.
Verdict? Meh. It's not a bad case, and I don't intend to return mine, but had I been given the opportunity to play with one before, I don't think I would have spent the extra $50. At half that price, it wouldn't change my opinion, but I'd be far less disappointed.
I have the book cover for my 8.0 and it is not very heavy, acts like a stand and turns the Note on and off when I open and close it. Very convenient. Got mine on Amazon for $5.99. Thought I would give it a try for that amount . So far very happy with it.

The only one I see on Amazon for that price is the IVSO version. What I hate about those cases is how you actually have to put the tablet inside and wraps around the front. The official book cover simply snaps onto the back of the Note 8.

I bought that same cover and also bought a similar one:
http://www.amazon.com/Dealgadgets-S...&qid=1366425979&sr=8-2&keywords=Galaxy+note+8
They both look essentially the same and add about the same bulk.
Major difference is that the Moko cover has auto wake, soft inside material, hand holder, and the pen holder doesn't interfere with IR. But it reeks! I mean it smells so bad I couldn't keep it in the same room with me. I left it outside overnight and it is still off gassing.
The Dealgadget cover has no weird smell. But also no wake function, no softer inside material, no hand holder. The pen holder is in a better location except if you plan to use the IR function. It is on the side of the tablet and I found it interferes with the IR.
So I ended up ordering the Samsung cover from this site. Since its coming from Hong Kong it will probably take a couple of weeks to get it. But I can't justify spending $50 for a cover. (Even though I probably will have spent close to $50 before I find one I like).
http://dx-box.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?cat=364&q=Galaxy+Note+8.0
I never purchased from this site before so I can't vouch for them yet.
I also have the upcoming Poetic case on order since its only $5. But it's not due to ship till May.
good one

When looking for some case reviews I stumbled over http://galaxynote8cases.com/ and they actually seem to have some good reviews. The only thing that is a real pain with the Note 8 is that it's tough to find any accessories for it.
I just got the white book case cover, its perfect for people who are careful with their electronics but like that extra layer to prevent scratches. Adds virtually zero weight.

Thats the big selling point for me here. The absolute lack of bulk on this is awesome. I only wish this had two more features:
1) A magnetic hold when the front flap is covering the screen.
2) Another magnetic hold for the flap when its folded over the back.

There is a slight hold on the front side, as to not make it appear flimsy. When you flip it around back it "gives" a bit easier to fit snugly. Hard to explain, but clearly well designed.
Where are people buying this case, i cant find it anywhere.
The Book Cover Case is available in the US at local Best Buy, Staples and Office Depot. The only color is white, but the other colors will be available shortly.

S-View Cover Interferes the Compass

I love my original s-View cover but it interferes my s4 compass especially with the cover is folded to the back of the phone. I can clearly see how the cover changes the direction of the Google Map compass while flipping the cover.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
That's because there's a magnet in it to activate the hal sensor to tell the screen to go to s-veiw window
If you take a magnet and put it where the sensor is on the phone with the s-veiw cover open your screen will change like if the cover is closed

If the S-View covers work with the aid of a magnet, how does this one work?

As I understand, no magnets here and yet they claim it has all S-View abilities!
PS ... anyone bought this cover? If yes, is this latched on to the built in battery cover or does it reduce bulk by replacing the battery cover?
Thanks

Got to have a magnet to trigger the S4 S-View mode on the display. Doesn't say it's got a magnet in the listing, then again doesn't say it hasn't.... Looks like it's got kind of a tpu case which snaps round the phone and the cover is glued onto that.

I have this cover. It does not replace the battery cover, but fits over it. However, the "leather" is very thin, so the case doesn't really add much bulk. The s-view function works perfectly. However, I won't continue to use this case once a better s-view case comes out. The part that holds the phone in the case doesn't cover the corners of the phone, so they are vulnerable if the phone is dropped. And, the front of the case could easily open if the phone is dropped, so there is no protection for the front of the phone, either. I really prefer flip cases, because I ruined an expensive phone by dropping it, so I want something that protects the phone. I really like the s-view option, but this isn't the case for me.
I got a cheap copy of the S-View which fits perfectly and works just as good. Unfortunately it seems the magnet is too strong because the S-View mode activates when I fold the cover around the back!
Is there any way to fix this?
Yeah do what I did, take it off, throw it into the corner in disgust, and put a tpu flip case on instead.

Dude, do you have a link to the one you bought - does it work just like the S-View?
I have the cover from Tridea. Got it yesterday.
It is actually quite nice and protects the phone better than the original S-view case. However, this is magnetic too and makes the compass more or less unusable.

I'm wondering this too. I paid $7, versus $60, so I can't complain, but I would LOVE to find out that the authentic ones actually fix this critical issue.

Maybe it is different for you, but the compass on the S4 sucks with or without the S-Cover. It constantly need recalibrating on many of these phones.

I agree. What is the reason for this though? Is it a software problem that could be fixed with an update, or a hardware problem which is pretty much permanent?
My S4 S-View (original) cover definitely interferes with compass readings. As this is an original Samsung case I find this quite incredible how this has been overlooked.
With the case on and open, my compass app would always point in the same direction.
Gradual movement of the front cover from the open to closed position would quickly alter the compass bearing etc.
I decided to ditch the S-View cover for the standard one for the following reasons:
1. Affects compass bearings as described
2. Unable to see notification LED when the cover is closed. (it is in fact not enabled at all when its closed)
3. I'd rather see my full screen caller ID on an incoming call than the small S-View window. I know if you open the case you will then see the caller ID screen, but I'd prefer to see it from the offset.
Only drawback now is that I hate leaving the screen uncovered so I've put a screen protector on, and I can never get to fit one perfectly...I always seem to get one or two specs of dust that cause bubbles.

I am guessing it is a hardware issue because several people have the problem (there is a thread in the "general" section about it) and it doesn't seem to matter which app or APK is used with it, it has the same issues and needs to be recalibrated periodically to work properly.

Well, it's tough to purchase a legit one sometimes, and knowing IF that design flaw doesn't exist in an authentic version would make it worth it.
Edit:
Fixed it myself. I pried open the fabric, took out the magnet, put a nail between the magnet and the hammer to shatter it, and put back half a disc. Works perfectly.
I have the original S-view cover and if I slowly open or close the cover over the phone, the compass changes values, and I even got a notification in compass app regarding the magnetic field while playing with the cover.
Is there any way to repair this behavior while keeping the S-view functionality?

Galaxy S4 S View Cover

Hey all, anyone else noticed on these Samsung Flip cases, they dont stay flush to the screen, in the case of the S view cover you would think the magnet would help keep it closed but no its just a trigger for the sensor. Bit expensive for what it is given it's flawed design.
From what I hear its great once you've broken it in
s view cover is a best cover for s4
I received mine today from handtec.. it fits and close perfectly.
I like this case but only grip it totally covers the led notification and coz of dat gotta keep checking if I missed a notification :banghead:

Interesting. I might just bite on one of those. Even though I don't think it's actuall the official one, it's probably about the same. I have a co-worker who spent $60 on hers and I wasn't really impressed with the build quality, though I do love the concept. But to me, it seemed more like a $15 cover anyway.

I have a new Samsung Galaxy S4 S-View Flip Cover Folio Case (Black) if anyone wants it in uk £25 delivered pm me I just got a new case in new condition only used once.
I bought this cover, and I like it ... it's the one thing keeping me away from trying an AOSP ROM (e.g. CM 10.1) ... Don't want to lose the window functionality.
I had an official Samsung S-View cover given free when I upgraded my contract.
Like others have said, the front cover didnt stay closed flush to the screen, but after a day or so "bedding it in" it now closes perfectly.
I find the case very good, and it's great that you can answer/reject calls etc sliding across the case window itself.
There are however 2 fundamental flaws with this case:
1. There is no hole for the notification LED (as already mentioned) I was contemplating drillling a hole through it to allow for this, but wit this case on and shut, the LED notification only ever lights up to show it's charging. The LED is disabled for missed calls/sms when the case is shut! This is a huge flaw of the S4+S-View combination in my opinion.
I'm hoping a future firmware update will address this, but as the cases being sold do not have this hole, I would be extremely surprised if this is done. Perhaps this may be a mod for some clever dev to do! :good:
2. The case greatly interferes with the devices ability to use any compass app. Open up a compass app and slowly open/shut the case and you will see the compass bearing alter considerably. This puts a huge doubt over the accuracy of such apps when this case is in the open position.
could be better
It should have had the led hole from factory. but that's samsung for ya..good ideas always seem to be an afterthought.. anyway.. i just drilled a hole in mine and it seemed to do the trick. sometimes it closes too well as can be a pain to open (to grip using fingers), but still a better case then most as it doesn't add much bulk or wait to the phone.
Nice case but minimum protection
I had flip cover case on my note 1, i dropped the phone once and the case didn't helped much to protect the phone from scratches on the side. Now i have S4 with the S view cover and similar thing happened, my case opened during fall and landed on the screen... As much as i like the flip cases they offer very little protection. I have to try different case for the upcoming Note 3. Any suggestions which case can offer solid protection?

I would definitely give the Spigen Slim Armor View a try. I just got this case in black and it's totally awesome. There are many threads in here discussing this case. I would like give links to them but not sure how to do it so I would just do a search. Tons of pics and reviews as well.
Excuse my late reply, I got this phone with a free S-cover a week ago. In my opinion the case build quality is crap. I've broken the cover in and it doesn't stay closed until I had to bend the cover to create a deeper crease. Now the cover is starting to misalign and become loose. Volume button is covered also. Sides are fraying.
When I first got it, I already thought, this case was not protective at all. The cover seemed as thick as a peice of cardboard, and there is no covering or shock absorption at all around the edges or back.
A week later I went to my local Asian variety store and bought a protective case for $6. Quality was 10x than the s-view cover and I'm not even exagerating. Imediatley switched cases. Save your money. Don't buy this.
If you want to the quality of s-view cover, a makeshift credit card wrapped in cloth works just as well.
Surprisingly, I was able to price-match an Amazon price at Target. I'm enjoying it but I hope it breaks in cause the flap not closing issue is a tad inconvenient.
Has anybody modded a tpu case too accomodate the S View cover?

Samsung or ....others?? Samsung is OK, others NOT
Please specify in your infos if you are talking abount a ORIGINAL SAM S-View (arround 35$ - 55$) or a cheapo 'SUMSUMG' or any other type of cheaper S-Views (ranging from 8$ to 25$)
I had a 'fake' S-View, which didn't stay closed, added thikness to the back cover, looked like 'cardboard', and, furthermore, if you folded it open completelly to the back of the phone, it activated the magnet!! So it was really 'crappy'
I now have a real S-View, and none of the above apply!
It closes (and stays closed) perfectlly from minute 1
It's exactlly as thick as the original cover
It has a 'cleanable plastic' finish
It can be open 360º to the back without activating the magnet
So... beware of fakes. It was difficult to tell, as they 'case' them as if original, but they're definitelly LOW QUALITY.
Can you buy a case that users s view front cover? Im used to it now but want a case? ??? Thanks

To be quite honest, I just bought my note 8 used on ebay and got it literally yesterday. However, I have been reading a lot of reviews. I haven't heard of the battery being affected by them (apple uses similar covers with magnets), but I have heard of the magnets messing with the wacom tech the s-pen uses.

I have been using similar cover(white) since june.
only thing I did was take out the magnets from behind so that they don't interfere with s-pen.
The magnets are just not powerful enough to cause issues with battery(Li-ion/poly) if that all is your primary concern.
In Case if you want to take the magnets out,
just take tablet out, then use a small coin and put it on the tablet and coin should pretty much stick to where the magnets are. once you have nailed the location (small disc magnets), just use a cutter blade to slice the back paper/fabric s bit and you should be able to take out those discs.
put the tablet back in and should be good to go.
Do note that the side flap will stop working once you take magnets out.
thnks for rply

Here what I have done with flip case
I had my Note 8 in a magnetic case for six months with no problems of any kind. I checked it periodically to be safe, and even with a broken screen, the S-pen still works perfectly.
I think it depends on the case design and maybe how strong the magnet is. I tried a case I bought on Amazon that had the flap or buckle type design and it immediately caused problems writing on the screen. I scribbled the pen back and forth.
I'll try to attach a photo of it where you can clearly see the magnet distortion it left on the screen where the pen could not write. It went away after I removed the case.
I scribbled on the left side also because a magnet was there also that turned the tablet on and off, but that magnet caused no problem.

just got my Note 8 last week.
got a case from amazon... Poetic flip case.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQ2Y71E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it has a on/off feature.
it uses a clasp to hold closed... not magnet.
I have heard a little about the magnet and issues with some digitizers.
it don't seem to affect it. how else can I tell when it causes problems?
will it be permanent?
how many magnets are on the case?
I thought there was only 1.. to do the on/off feature
I've been using this case for a year .. MOKO Slim Cover, without a single problem :

I'm guessing it's safe to use cases with magnetic covers as the majority of the probably use very low power magnets, which won't cause any interferance with your device.
Hi all,
Been using the official Flip Case with my Note 8.0 LTE and no battery issues at all.
I did notice that if the front cover is misaligned by even 1/2 a centimeter, it does activate the device, so make sure when you close it its not askew, even slightly.

Seidio Surface case kickstand magnet issue

Posted this in page two of another thread but just wanted to make sure people saw this in case they didnt read it before they purchased the Surface case with the kickstand. Gonna call them tomorrow to make them aware:
I ordered my Surface case, received it today and I'm having issues. When the bottom piece of the outer shell slides on the screen goes dark. Cannot turn it back on. If I slide off the bottom piece it comes on, when it slides back on it puts the screen back to sleep. If i take a stand alone magnet and put it up to the back of the phone where the kick stand would be it turns off. Thinking there is a design flaw. Gonna call Seidio tomorrow. Kinda sucks I've been waiting for their holster for a while now.
Edit: Definitley a design flaw, I found this on Google's Nexus 6P help forum:
"I have found there is a magnetic sensor in the Nexus 6P to detect when the folio case cover has been closed so as to lock and turn off the screen of the phone. The sensor is located in the bottom left corner when looking at the front of the 6P. I found that this sensor also reacts to a magnetic field applied to the back side of the Nexus 6P in this same area (bottom right corner when looking at the back of the 6P). Herein lies the problem... When trying to use Android Beam through NFC by holding the back of the 6P to the back of another device, a magnetic field from the other device (the speaker perhaps) can trigger the magnetic sensor in the Nexus 6P, causing the Nexus 6P to lock and go to sleep before the NFC sensors have aligned. Both my OnePlus One and my Neuxs 7 2013 will put my Nexus 6P to sleep if I don't hold them carefully enough when trying to align the NFC sensors. Can anyone else confirm this? Why does this sensor also pick up magnetic fields on the back of the phone? Is there a way to disable the magnetic sensor if not using a folio case so this does not happen when trying to use Android Beam?"
That's a big problem..
Could you please post some pics of the phone with the case?
Thanks!

I'll have to see if mine suffers the same issue when it arrives. I have 2 Nexus 6P's to test it on, so that should provide a little better sample size.

Bummer! I was really looking forward to this case. Maybe they will release one without the kickstand (doubtful).

Going to call them in the morning. I'll post the response I get.
I also REALLY want the Surface case, but I'm holding off until more people receive theirs and post whether they experience the same thing. I've had a Surface case on all my phones for several years. It's the slimmest I've found, gives the best protection, and the kickstand doesn't add much bulk. Can't tell you how many times I've dropped my phone and never had a problem.

Agreed. Some of the best cases I've ever used on my phones.
Spoke to them this morning and explained the issue. They created an RMA and are going to ship out a modified version, I'm assuming without the kickstand. I was told not to worry about sending back the old case so I'm gonna see if there is a way to get the kickstand out in the meantime without destroying the bottom half.
My Sedio case is arriving today (earlier than expected), so I will post a review in my case OP. If the issue is present on either of my 6P's I will let everyone know.

I would actually prefer the case w/o the kickstand. I don't like the bump it creates. So hopefully they will release the case w/o it.
Thanks again for the update!

Great, curious to see if you run into the same issue.

No problem. I agree, don't think I've ever used the kickstand but really like the protection the case offers and their holster.

Mine doesn't have that issue at all. I'm using the case now, and I will post my review later today. I'm not that impressed with the way Sedio did their button cutouts, but more on that later.
Edit: It seems that the bottom piece on my case wasn't pushed up completely becasue when I removed the case and put it back on the screen kept shutting off/staying off depending on how I installed it.
I received the case yesterday and also immediately noticed the problem. I called they are also sending me a replacement.
Meanwhile, I popped out the kickstand and turned it around and it seems ok for now. with it flipped around, you can't get your nail in to open the kick stand so its essentially useless.
Its really unfortunate that they didn't catch this design bug before shipping.
(I will say, this case makes the 6P feel really thick - I'm trying to decide if I like it or not)

Out of curiosity how did you do that. I've been trying to figure out how to accomplish that.
I called sedio because my case bows outward on one side where the two pieces connect, but they refused to help me because I order from their Amazon store. Their customer service is horrendous, and the agent (Shane) I spoke with was rude about anything I asked. I'm disappointed with their service, and case so far. I plan on sending it back immediately because of how they handled a simple question.
Edit: I finally spoke with a manager, and after having her repeat the same thing a few dozen times (in between no letting me say anything) they are sending me a replacement. I can't say I've encountered a CSR this bad in a long time, so I will try to ignore their rude representatives and use the case.

The stand is just held in place by the black tape... you can see the black tape on the inside of the case. So you just gently push on the silver metal stand out the back - it should slowly release... it takes a little finesse but it's not terribly difficult.
Then once it's out, all you need to do is flip it around and stick it back in place...
Although the stand isn't accessible in this new orientation, at least, the case will work without turning the phone off.
I have the same issue with the screen turning off when the bottom part is slid on. Called them up and they're are sending a new modified version. They better send it 2nd day express which I paid extra for!

Can you post any pics? My biggest concern (once they iron out this magnetic closing issue) is the thickness. I have the Spigen Rugged Armour and love the sleekness, but I'd like a kickstand since I often watch stuff on my phone. Any more comments regarding the thickness and pictures would be great!

You can see my review of the case and pictures right here
The holster seems to be a bit spooky how it is designed. The phone hovers about an 1/8" above the surface from about midway up the holster to the top clamp. There is an 1/8" lip where the phone is placed on at the bottom of the holster where it rests. Maybe I'm being overly cautious here but it seems the phone could be bent over time if inserted enough times because of that extra space beneath the phone. .
