Hello everyone. New to the site but I have been reading for the last week or so before I ask for help. I'm trying to unlock the bootloader on my wife's T-Mobile HTC ONE S (S4). I have all the necessary files installed and have tried several different possible HTC drivers solutions to get the token id. In the command prompt it always gets stuck on waiting for device after I type in fastboot oem get_identifier_token. Also, when I'm in fastboot on the bootloader screen the device manager kicks back the failed to enumerate usb device error. I have tried different usb ports and sync cable as well and I still get the same error. When connected normally, device manager picks my phone up like it should under android devices as My HTC. I am on win 8.1.1 in case anyone that helps forgets that I put that in the title. Any help or guidance to a tutorial or another way to unlock the bootloader would be greatly appreciated.

Quick question. Go to device manager on your PC and tell me exactly whats your USB controller. I guess you tried on USB 3.0 port...do you have also USB 2.0 ports on it? Also have you removed completely HTC Sync and keep only the drivers?

I will try the usb ports on the back when I get home. I will also let you know exactly what it says in device manager as well. Yes, I did try with just leaving the drivers after installing then uninstalling sync. I even tried with the win7 drivers as well for HTC.
I had the same problem, spent whole day trying to make it work and finally gave up using my old laptop with XP

I don't think my pc has any usb 2.0. all the usb ports tell me the same thing when I put the phone into fastboot. The device manager states Unknown USB Device (Failed to Enumerate). Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). I believe my usb controller is a intel 6 series/C200 series chipset family usb enhanced host controller.

It could be that you're out of luck in this case. There are problems with windows 8/8.1 and USB 3.0 to recognize the phone due to the drivers. You could try on a windows 7 machine or get some drivers that works. I know of a solution but only for Intel Xtensible USB 3.0 Controller, don't know any drivers for what you have

my next idea was to create a dualboot environment with win7 or vista installed, but that was last course of action. Ok, so before I do a dual boot I am gonna start fresh. I have the sdk and jdk installed already and I have disabled driver signature enforcement just to be on the safe side as far as win8 issues go with adb. My htc is now booted normally and shows up in device manager under portable devices and says that no mtp drivers are installed for my device. the phone has not installed any drivers automatically but shows up as a disc in case I want to install HSM. should I install HSM or go with HTC sync install then uninstall it? I also have removed the universal adb drivers I had installed before so now it is only adb drivers from sdk.

Oh, I just remembered... On some ROMs, on my win 8.1 I must set MTP mode. In standard UMS mode ADB doesn't work. In MTP mode, there's a device shown as My HTC in device manager. I initially had no driver for it but I made an "update driver" and choose the driver manually from my disk. The location for the drivers was where HTC Sync package installs them. Something like "Program Files/HTC/USB driver"...

Thanks. I will try those tomorrow. I have all the drivers from winxp on up to win8 so i'm going to try each one with the corresponding compatibility mode. They were all in folders on my phone.
Unfortunately I had no luck with any of the drivers on win8.1.1. Luckily I was working on repairing a PC that had win7 on it. I have achieved my goal of unlocking bootloader, root, s-off, supercid and custom rom on my wife's htc one s. Thank you for all the speedy responses and helpful suggestions. I still plan on dual booting win7 on my PC to avoid these issues in the future. One last question; Does anyone one know if wifi calling works on liberty's sense rom v7a? Or atleast a link to the answer. Thx in advance.

As far as I know, it doesn't support it. But I'm not 100% sure since I don't use this (I think it's more specific to US). This question was asked also in Liberty thread but remained without answer. I guess that if WiFi calling was supported, at least someone would have answered affirmatively.

I have a htc sensation 4g with hboot 1.27.1100 I've unlocked the bootloader flashed recovery, and rooted the phone.
I'm trying to gain s-off by running controlbear, and using the paper clip trick, but after controlbear reboots the phone it gives me this message : Connect device and install drivers.
I'm assuming it's referring to the device drivers for the phone which are already installed. If it's referring to some other driver I don't know what one it's talking about.
I noticed while using adb it also would not recognize the device, though I was still able to use it to communicate with the phone. Was thinking that might have something to do with it.
Any help would be appreciated.
HTC's 4.0 update really screwed my phone up...Just bumping, don't know what proper etiquette is on this forum for bumps, if it was to early i'm sure i'll hear about it, and will reserve myself for future post.

Ok guys, sorry to start another thread on this but I have been going through thread after thread and searching endlessly for a solution and nothing has worked for me.
I was getting ready to do the S-Off procedures and my device is recognized by computer to transfer files, and adb recognizes the device as well, I was able to get the device ID. Reboot into bootloader and fastboot just hangs there and no fastboot usb. try to enter fastboot command and it just hangs at "waiting for device"
I started going crazy and uninstalled drivers. Installed HTC Sync, (never needed it before). Now when I plug in USB while in Fastboot computer recognizes device but says it is not working properly.
Under device manager > Android USB Devices > (Yellow triangle) My HTC > Device Status ( This device cannot start Code 10), (A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed). Driver version 2.0.7.14. I try to update the driver manually and it says "It appears the right driver is already installed." Tried disabling enabling. Unistalling, plugging back in. Nothing seems to work.
Running Viper 3.2.3
Windows 8 (didnt have the problem before using fastboot)
Sorry for long post. Thanks in advance.

try using this application if you think your device drivers are dirty but installed correctly for usb devices
USBDeview just uninstall whatever devices you want reinitialized especially since they can change even with rom changes so it is good to clear some old ones out by sorting them based on Last Plug/Unplug Date.
I had to use a different Micro-USB cable to get it work. Try that.
Yeah I actually have tried all those steps. Thanks for the replies guy. I check out that application.

If your on Windows 8 problems will occur but there are methods you need to look into. Windows 7 is your ally.
First Uninstalled the drivers for the device using the program in the previous post. Second, make sure your cable is working correctly. Third, make sure you have the correct drivers for you phone on the computer - - HTC Sync causes problems sometimes. Fourth, plug in the phone in while it's on and let the drivers install correctly. Fifth, place the phone in fastboot and let drivers install. Should work.
Remember sometimes you need to restart your computer and try different USB ports. Some users have said 3.0 ports cause problems.
Good luck.

Since I installed Cyanogenmod 4.3 onto my device I can connect my storage but without enabling the storage my PC doesn't recognize the device properly.
The reason my asking is I'd like to update the recovery (as I heard TWRP 2.6.0.0. does't support KitKat and want to upgrade it to 2.6.3.0. or newer).
When I try to flash a newer recovery with fastboot I get an error message "device not found". Doesn't matter the storage connection is on or off. Unfortunately my ROM doesn't have setting for fast reboot or something but I assume it's off.
The latest official HTC driver's installed.

It could be a stupid question but how to connect the device and PC as MTP?
I've read several threads here and found MTP drivers in .cab files including .inf and .cat files. When I tried to update the portable devices drivers I get the message (My Windows7 x64 is Hungarian, maybe the translation isn't totally correct): "You already installed the up to date driver - WPD file system driver"
Just to summarize the situation:
- HTC One S Ville C2 - Unlocked but S-on !!!
- HTC sync and HTC sync manager are uninstalled.
- Unofficial Cyanogenmod 10.2 by bilal_liberty - I do not have an option to check whether the usb debugging is on or off.
- When I connect the device the windows can see it, gives it a driver letter but I can' use any fastboot/flash command.
- My phone recognize the connection and offers to turn on the usb storage and it works.
Thanks for your help.

The debugging ON is done in the Dev Options. If you don't have Dev Options you should go to about phone an tap several times on the Build Version till you got the message "Now you're a developer"

This could be due to older or incorrect drivers. I had some issues several times due to improper drivers and I had to try several times till it worked. Starting with the HTC ones and up to the default Google drivers found in the Android SDK. Finally I make it work but believe me, I don't know how it worked I just tried until I got the proper drivers that worked

Thanks Rapier! I will do like that.
Similar questions to this have been asked before but got no replies so, in desparation, am asking again.
Bought my phone second hand. On starting, it shows the Vodafone logo so assume it's branded.
About Phone -> Software Information shows:
Android Version: 2.3.5HTC Sense version: 3.0Software number: 2.10.161.5
HBOOT shows:
*** UNLOCKED ***SAGA PUT SHIP S-ON RHHBOOT-2.00.0002
Now for the problem:
I'm trying to set S-OFF and root the phone but my PC, running Windows 10, is unable to communicate with the phone when it's in Recovery mode.
The entry for My HTC under Android USB Devices in Device Manager disappears once I start the phone in Recovery mode and connect it to my PC via a USB cable.
At this point Device manager on my PC shows under USB Controllers an entry for an unknown USB Device (Device failed enumeration) and the Hardware Ids show as USB\UNKNOWN.
I'd really appreciate someone familiar with this area throwing some light on what could be going on here and perhaps giving me some pointers on how to resolve this.
there is one quick fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-s/general/guide-fix-fastboot-windows-8-1-t2858337 (for me it worked with the old win 10)
if it doesnt work: the fastest way is to seek a friend with windows 7 and s-off the bootloader
if its s-off you dont need the "fastboot" mode

Thanks for replying but, following the links you gave they all ended with a brick wall. Using VirtualBox I tried using Window 7 and even Windows XP. All attemprt failed miserably.
In all cases Device Manager showed the MyHTC driver installed under Androis USB Devices and working normally. Running command 'adb devices', when the phone was running normally, worked fine but USB connection is lost every time when booting into HBOOT, making fastboot etc impossible.
I've reached the point where I can't waste any more time on this having wasted far too much already. I don't like giving up but this has got me.

Hello!
I cant get my Windows 11 virtual machine to detect my Xiaomi 12 when its in Fastboot mode. Does any one happen to have any ideas to solve this?
It shows up as 'Android' in device manager. I've also attempted to install a drivers manually and none of them seem to be acceptable. Weirdly, my Xiaomi 12 is recognised when its in regular, usb transfer mode and the MiUnlockTool by Francesco Tescari even recognises it then too. For context, debugging mode and enable bootloader settings have been enabled in MIU 13.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion! I will attempt these. Fingers crossed
I have previously attempted to install adb driver but had some trouble. When installing using Device Manager, the locate .inf dialog refuses to accept my selection. I dont seem to be any error. When attempting to do so via the folder (and sub folders) it says no drivers found. Perhaps i'm doing this totally wrong?
Thanks again for your suggestion @WhiteCoffeeCat .
I've attempted to install the drivers. The Qualcomm worked fine but I've been unable to install the ADB driver. I've tried to bypass driver signatures and ect and even that didnt work.
So as of now, when my Xiaomi is in fastboot mode, it shows up as 'Android' in device manager.

Put Windows into testing mode before installing drivers in Miflash, adb.. Run cmd prompt as admin and type bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON or bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF for disabling testing mode.
Thanks @Stefke93 ! I gave that a try but still had the same outcome as before.
That said, I did find a way to resolve the problem i had....So i was able to install the ADB drivers in Device manager, I added a legacy hardware, selected Universal Serial Bus Function devices, and from their i found ADB usb driver. After that, it started to work fine.
Thanks everyone for the help. Got there in the end... I guess due to my back luck so far i was due a win... i didnt have to wait to unlock, i could do so immediately.

Hello, the same thing happened to me yesterday, I'll explain: you connect your Xiaomi 12 in fastboot mode, you right click on My PC and select manage, device manager, select the android device and right click, update driver, search for driver in my PC, choose drivers available on my PC, show all devices, use disk and look for the folder where you have saved the file that I am attaching (android_winusb), select Android ADB Interface and click Next, Done.

Thanks, but that doesn't help, otherwise I've already done it. I had m1 mac and with parallel desktop only the possibility to install win 11.. win 11 sucks.. I installed win10 on an intel mac in parallel and that solved my problem

Hey,
So I had so many issues installing the drivers to allow my VM to detect my phone in fastboot mode.
This is what worked for me (quote below). I swear I attempted this a number of times with different cables and it eventually worked. Mine seemed to work with an apple usb C cable instead othe official xiaomi cable with a usb c converter for the m1 mac.

Thanks

Hello.
I got that same problem, solved by connecting a multiport usb on my computer, then connecting my device MI12TPro on that multiport... then everything went better

Hi Tek,
I have had many issues with windows and fastboot,
some cables would work with some of the ports and then not.
My pc has 12 usb ports, yet it was still hit and miss whether fastboot would work on my Poco F3.
I tried your tip and after using a cheapy Targus 4 port usb adaptor, my "FASTBOOT PROBLEMS ARE NOW SOLVED"
now what am i going to do with my 7 surplus USB-C Cables
Many thanks for your TIP
