[Q] Download - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone. There is a thread with a root toolkit, here.
But I can't seem to dowload the kits from the download tab. Nothing happens. I can't use direct download or torrent. None of them results in anything.
There no problem downloading from other sites, I have rebooted my router, restarted my PC, cleared cache and so on.
Any tips or alternate links?
Thanks

OK! Thanks you for that highly appreciative and mature answer. I posted in the wrong section, I didn't start a war by trolling. I was simply unsure where to put the question since it is also a request for alternate links. Next time I'll make sure to Google before I go to the "friendly" community of XDA...

We'll, you can do what you want. But you'll be better off in the long run if you learn to do it the right way. The n5 is a real easy device to root and rom. Learning to do those things rather than using a tool kit will save you a lot of headaches in the future

Like everyone says working and learning is best since you learn how to save your butt also if some goes awry. Here is toolkit if you just cannot do it another way:

If you use a toolkit, you'll be back on here begging for help because you bricked your device. If you want to mod, either learn to do it the right way or don't bother at all. Save yourself and the XDA community the headache.

Just to reiterate the above, don't use toolkits. When you need help, it's much harder for us to explain how to fix things if you don't understand our "language".
Not sure how many other people that do this but if a first post says "toolkit" in it, I stop reading.

I'm not entirely sure where I said that I don't know how to do it either way. I've been rooting and installing custom ROMs and firmware since Nexus was first released. I just find it easier (I'm lazy) to use a one click toolkit to get it done. That doesn't mean I don't know how to backup and restore stock.
If I want to use a toolkit and ask for it I really can't understand the judging in here. It's my choice, and your conclusions are that I'm a noob because of it? yeah, what a great and "friendly" community this is. I might save you the headache cus this is just ridiculous.
Thanks anyway for your heartwarming words.

It takes about two minutes to root without a toolkit. But of course you knew that already!

Relax, don't take it so personally. I get it, you're not a newb. When you come here asking about toolkits with a single-digit post count, it's a fair assumption. Either way I don't see the purpose of toolkits for a Nexus device. I encourage everyone not to use toolkits but to root the proper way. How hard is it to type "fastboot oem unlock" and "fastboot flash recovery recovery-twrp.img"? It's not like it's Samsung or something where you have to find exploits and hack to get it unlocked. Google gives us all the tools we need to unlock Nexus devices. You don't have to know how to code or anything to use the tools. There's nothing to gain by using one-click toolkits and root methods, only to lose as you never know exactly what they're doing under the hood. Toolkits cause more problems than they solve, especially when used by those with little to no experience. As someone else pointed as, when inexperienced users use toolkits and inevitably run into problems, it's difficult to explain how to fix it because they don't understand the steps we're telling them to take. It may as well be Greek to them. For these reasons I always discourage the use of toolkits.

Thanks all. I did it the "proper" way

You don't need to. It will work on windows as well.
I would strongly suggest to read the whole manual (effen manual - it's actually named like that) before starting. If you downloaded the hack kit/ran the kit with your antivirus on, the chances of it not working are high.
Thus, read before starting anything. Because if you mess up (the hack kit is quite simple if you understand what you are doing) but if you mess up with something so easy, it's going to take a whole lot more to fix it. READ EVERYTHING IN THE SITE BEFORE YOU PLUG IN YOUR PHONE, THEN READ IT AGAIN. WE ARE NOT KIDDING ABOUT READING. IT IS YOUR PHONE, YOUR RESPONSABILITY.
Keep in mind what android version you are on. THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT.

Yes, it does.. i have 2.3.5 and it runs on 3.20.502.52
Make sure that when you run aahk the you shut down any firewall and anti virus programs or you will run into issues. Some people been having issues where anti virus programs treat aahk as a virus and will stop it from working. Last thing you want is in the middle of rooting for aahk to stop working.

Ok, my humble advice is that you spend MUCH more time reading before running the Hack Kit. This is not like other phones that the process is painless. Unfortunately, HTC locks its bootloaders so you need S-OFF before anything else.
If you really can't find something in a web site that has 2 or 3 entries, then take time to think about rooting. Don't do it untill you get acquainted with all the information you are being given.
Rooting your build OS is not enterily for noobs, so or you get help via teamviewer or just take some more time to fully understand what you are about to do...

I know, Im just too confused with all the terms, S-off, bootloaders, RUU.. I think I do need to search more and wait till I totally know what is to be done, Else I'll mess up my phone surely!
I think I should wait, and stay with whatever I have. I needed ICS. But I'll wait!
One ques., the most confusing thin is that "No temproot for Inspire for 3.20.502.52" which is written on the site of aahk, means what? Inspire can't be rooted which have this? Coz i have the same one.!
But anyways, thanks guys for taking time out! I do need some learning to be done.
If possible could u plz put up some youtube videos to help beginners like me, so that they can make full use of their phones! Or post link here if u know any video that might help me.
I need the ICS! It would be really heplful!
But thanks guys, you have been great help trying to explain! I'll continue my search! I'll wait and will keep in touch here.
Thanks alot!

How the h3ck do I back my newly rooted s5?

Greetings, All.
OK was real comfortable rooting my EVO-4G, and tweaking every aspect of it. ROM installs...
But That was quite some time ago, and a completely different brand of phone than my new
[Sprint] Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900P). So I find myself a bit lost. What I'd like to do, is
make myself a backup. Before doing anything to it. You wouldn't mess with your phone
before making a backup, would you?
So I figure CWM is probably the best route to travel for this, yes? If so, what's the process?
I download ClockWorkMod, and what?
NOTE: I do not have/use Windows. So anything Windows related will not be an option.
Thank you for all your time, and consideration.

First, please edit the curse word out of the title. Curse words with symbols/letters are still curse words .
Second, since you're not on Windows, your only option is to root in Linux using heimdall(Google has tons on this). You can flash custom recovery through there. By the way, you technically don't need root to do a backup . Good luck!

I'm sorry, I meant use Google to narrow down the search XDA. Sometimes it's easier to search and put "xda" at the end in Google and find the forums you want. XDA has a good search function too, but Google is faster sometimes.

I use Philz recovery exclusively for my flashing, backup, rooting, everything. You're not using Odin(I recommend borrowing a buddy's laptop with Windows for 5 min, it's much easier than Heindall), so you'll have to research how to flash the tar through Linux, but it can be done. Here's the recovery tar. Be sure to thank @Phil3759 while you're over there. The man is a genius at building these recoveries. Good luck!

Even if he doesn't have a OnePlus One, it's still fairly straight forward, but you should still take the help as they should 'hopefully' know what should be happening.
From my experience, I would highly recommend NOT rooting on windows xp as you'll have driver issues. Windows 7/8 is fine; I have no experience with a Mac.
True, but I have W7 running and Seb installed the drivers fine.

IF you have to have someone else root your phone then what do you plan on doing if whatever you do with it afterwards gets messed up. May I suggest you try and figure it out as it will only lead you down a darker path if something goes wrong and you dont know what to do....

I have to agree here. Having someone else unlock/root your device is an awful idea. The whole unlocking process is an essential learning experience, if you skip that you're heading into dangerous waters. If/when something goes wrong you'll have no idea what to do, and the first thing you'll do then is create an unnecessary thread begging for someone to fix your phone. OP, do yourself a huge favour and start reading, then do some more reading, and then more reading, see where I'm going here?

You didn't read a thing I said before did you. I'm not going to unlock your device for you. I don't want or need your money. Getting someone else to unlock your device for you is a very bad idea for the reasons I outlined in my previous post.
This phone is very easy to unlock, all you need to do is follow some simple instructions. You'll find them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632
If you don't want to learn how to do this then you really shouldn't be modifying your device in the first place. Having a modified device requires a certain level of knowledge so that you don't brick your phone, if you don't want to spend the time learning then you're best off just leaving the phone stock.

Anyone has flashable 4.4.1 radio for Nexus 5? [Got it and GPS issue FIXED!!]

Hi,
I want to try the GPS fix solution by flashing the Android 4.4.1 radio on my Nexus 5.

I only found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...t/modem-nexus-5-flashable-modems-efs-t2514095
On your RESOURCES link.
But, I don't know how to flash it. When I extracted the linked "modem" (is this the radio?), I got 2 files.
I am expecting to have a single .img radio image.
If you are interested in the GPS issue that I mentioned here is the link:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=72311
Basically, the GPS was working fine, perfect prior to 4.4.3 / 4.4.4 update.
A lot of people (if not all) fixed the issue by flashing the radio from 4.4.1.

They're flashable zips from recovery. Either flash the zip via custom recovery or the extract the image

Ugh ... why? So far so good.
If not, it's quite hassle to install Android SDK when I only to use "fastboot".

Yes.
Tested and definitely the GPS is now MUCH BETTER!!
I was panicked at first because after flashed, the power button didn't work.
Rebooted, still didn't work. I cannot put the phone to sleep using the power button.
But, after awhile it fixed itself.

Lot of reasons, but :
You can't see what they're doing
Causes lot sof support threads from people thinking they bricked
You don't learn the essential methods and tools needed to get you out of trouble
Promotes a lack of knowledge and takes a toll on this forum
There is a "rant" about it linked in the same thread of my signature if you want to see what 99% of those of us posting here, regularly helping think.

You don't need the SDK to use fastboot. Fastboot is very easy to use. You can simply install fastboot using the 15 second installer. Please have a read of my "adb and fastboot. What is it?" thread.
I know you only went in my thread to find the radios, but do have a look at the other info a guide threads there. Your world will open up.
Wow ... indeed ... that's easy installation.
I have done the trouble in the past with installing the whole SDK, then maintaining it.
It was too much hassle.
Not anymore with the info from your signature.
Thanks! big thanks!

No problem. Any time.
We definitely like to help people who are willing to learn, so respect to you for that!
It's much easier to help someone in trouble who is configured ahead of time and understand than it is to help someone in trouble who doesn't understand basic commands - this is why we (almost everyone) recommend fastboot (and adb in some cases) over toolkits.
Any adb or fastboot questions, please feel free to ask them in that thread.

Good good! And yea, you'll find sometimes the power button does that straight after boot up. I think it's just not finished completely booting yet

Nvm already answered derp.

[Q] How do I ROOT the Nexus 5!?

I tried both toolkits in the Origional Android Development sections and neither of them work. They all ask for a donation. I do not want to donate until I can verify that it works. Nothing I have tried has allowed me to root my phone.
I am on Android 4.4.4 on T-Mobile.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

first things first, if you have no idea whats going on do not use root toolkits.
secondly, we have wonderful sticky posts here to make it easy to find useful info, rooting a nexus 5 is useful.
the basics..
1. use fastboot to unlock your bootloader
2. use fastboot to flash a custom recovery
3. use that new custom recovery to flash supersu, the superuser(root) binaries
4. boot up with root.
5. now why do we need toolkits?
now check here to get detailed instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...urce-guides-info-threads-linked-read-t2784527

because too many people that use toolkits are brand new, and they dont learn the very basics of modding the phone by skipping that step. then later on, when all there is to do is some basic maintenance, they freak and think they destroyed their device. or many similar stories like that. anyways, i dont have any issue with toolkits overall, just the newest users. what id like to see is a toolkit that also explains the basics, so the user can learn the basics. anyways, with nexus devices, its just as easy doing it properly. if you have fastboot installed, the process takes 3-4 minutes.

If you're an absolute beginner I can recommend Chromium's guide (which is also mentioned in rootSU's Sticky Roll-Up):

Used this yesterday to root my new N5, worked great. Only issue I had was that I couldn't push SuperSU to /sdcard. Used the sideloader and it loaded fine then.
Just use towelroot

Still, like tool kits, doesn't teach the basics that are needed to fix problems. If then person already knows these basics, fine but if not. They're a burden on this forum and us when we're trying to help so only suggest this to people who know what they're doing.
