manual network search on CM11 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. Since approx. beginning of April I experience serious problems using cm11. What I mean:
- in poland we have a gsm carrier called p4. They have a small own network which covers main cities. This network is used by p4 to provide gsm and internet services.
- p4, to provide gsm services outside the cities, let it users to use national roaming, using ALL networks availiable (3 diffferent carriers)
- when in national roaming, internet services are not provided at all ( only gsm)
Now the problem: I live in a city. I need internet services all the time. So till April I've used manual network search, i.e. I used to choose P4 and it worked perfectly. For several moments during day (i.e. in tube) i had no signal of P4 but it was not a problem. After a moment the phone did connect to P4 again.
BUT NOW something has changed. I choose P4 manually but when I loose signal the phone connects again not to P4 but to the network with strongest signal (usually t-mobile). And it does not return to P4. So I have NO INTERNET AT ALL TILL I'LL MANUALLY RECONNECT to P4.
What happened? Is it a bug or is it intentional change in cm11? Is there a way to manage networks the old way? I'll be grateful for help cause this situation is extremly annoying.

[Q] Carrier network auto-select does not work

Hi everyone,
I'm new to Android on Polaris, and while I substantially succeeded in having a good-working system (incubus rls16 + radio 1.59) I still have some minor problems.
One of the biggest is that auto-switching between carriers doesn't seem to work. I'm on Three-IT, and usually this carrier relies on roaming carrier TIM where it has no coverage of its own. Now I find that when I leave Three coverage, the telephone "sticks" with the last cell information (e.g., it goes on displaying previous signal strength, the one it had under Three) and does not perform any carrier auto-switch.
This results in an unreliable strength status: I see good coverage where in fact I have none, and have to manually check for my default roaming operator.
Switching to "plane mode" and back always does the trick, as it forces radio to perform a new search while re-enabling.
Does someone of you have some advice to solve this annoying problem?
Thanks in advance!

[Q][App Request] cell network ownage info

Hope someone can help with this request/question
I'm currently on a PAYG network in the UK (ASDA) but this company is a 'virtual' network using one of the bigger network companies (currently they are using the Vodaphone network)..quite soon they are moving to EE (Orange/T-Mobile) network which would NORMALLY not be a problem except.....
I work in a factory & mobile signals in plant is rather 'sketchy' the best of times... the Vodaphone network seems to have the best signal there & this is why I chose a provider that uses this network. When they (ASDA) move to EE I'm worried that I will start losing signal strength etc & so I'll may be forced to find another provider
Now onto my question/request..
I was thinking that IF I could scan the area I work (i.e the factory) & find what cell towers are around, & what strength they are THEN find out WHO those cells belong to (as in - whether it's O2/EE/Vodaphone that owns them) I should have a good idea If the EE network will still work in plant & I won't have to start looking for another provider..
...If they aren't any good - I could find out which company DOES have the best signal in plant & then have to move to that provider instead
I know I could just use my phones 'network scan' to see who's 'around' but this doesn't show how strong their signal is
I could also go out & get a free PAYG sim from each company & put it in my phone & see which give the best reception
and I know there are apps that will show 'Cell Info' (some show quite detailed info that completely 'gobble-gook' to me ) but none that I've found tells me WHO the cell belongs to
So - Is there such an App (preferably free) that anyone can suggest that will allow me to.....
> Scan the available cells in my area
> Find out their signal strength
> and MOST IMPORTANTLY which network company (O2/Vodaphone/EE etc) OWNS that cell
It also has to be 'simple' to understand.. all I want is an app that shows how many cells in the area, how strong the signal is for each cell & a name of the company that the cell belongs to
Many thanks in advance

3G data disable while on roaming

Hello,
I know there is a thread for this in Galaxy Note section, but i feel i need to share this for OPO community.
I'm using OPO v33 rom. I live in Mumbai and have a 3G vodafone postpaid corporate connection.
Recently i have been to my native mysore on few occasions, and everytime i have seen the 3G data getting disabled even when the data connection settings are enable on roaming.
I never faced this issue on my nokia lumia 920 which perfectly latched onto roaming and 3G data was available.
On roaming, with OPO, the data gets disabled and i dont get a specific "E" or "H" sign with + noticafion.
I only have the signal bars with small R icon on top of the bar.
Please let me know if there is a workaround for this.
I have also seen this issue on v25 rom aswell.
Note: i have tried setting connectivity to automatic in mobile networks.. and also tried to select the specific Vodafone network. both didnt solve this issue.
Another interesting thing while on roaming: my nokia 920 recognised 2 networks for vodafone.. one with 2G, 3G and another with only 2G. and i could select the first one .. and 3G was getting enabled without any issues.
i think that E and H as well as H+ is only something you can geti n your own country. When roaming, it's always the default for that service prodiver in the country that you will get.

[Q] No cellular reception after hard reset

I have a HTC ONE S for several years (bought in UK).
I'm using the same service provider probably for two years.
Today, I've reset the device (factory default) due to application over loading...
Unfortunately, the cellular reception (voice only, not to mention data....) is intermittent.
In other words, there are few minutes it identifies himself correctly on the cellular network (and yet, also there is no cellular data reception and sending SMS), but most of the time there is no reception at all (emergency calls).
Called to cellular provider but they couldn't help (APN settings only).
If I run a network scan, it picks other 2 major provider not the one I use (one of the big 3 in the country).
What to do ???I didn't root or something like that.
you might have to try another radio, and yes, try rooting it, installing a recovery and flashing another stock based ROM and see if the problem comes back. i'm sure flashing a different radio will get your signals back...
also you can try unlocking the phone again, there's a link in the development section that allows one s users unlock again... see if it helps.

Manual network selection broken?

I'm living in a border region where my phone frequently switches to the abroad network in cases where the signal of my domestic operator fades. So I manually select my domestic network in the settings. However, my manual selection doesn't stick and the OP7 returns to automatic network selection once it loses signal of my domestic operator. This results in frequent connections with the abroad network and excruciating costs.
Solutions I've tried:
- manual switching networks: as described above, manual network selection doesn't stick
- 3rd party apps: I found an app which warns me when I connect to an abroad network which isn't very helpful since by the time I get the warning, the connection has already been established and the costs have incurred
Does anyone have a similar problem and possibly a working solution?
turn off roaming?
I'm using an abroad (German) sim so turning off roaming is is not an option. Just wondering if it's a bug in oxygenos that my OP7 keeps ignoring my manual network settings, which would be a perfect solution if it just worked.
Same problem here OP7. Roaming in Poland atm and if set to automatic no data. If I select a provider manually, it works less than 4 minutes and then switches back and data goes away.
Same story on 8T, this is not acceptable at all!
I was so happy with this phone, but this will be my last OnePlus phone.
