[Q] Verizon LG G2 bricked after stock update - HELP - General Questions and Answers

I need your guys' help big time. I've been trying to fix this for the past couple of days and can't!
My phone was running a rooted stock ROM and has PhilZ Touch 6.25.4/Clockworkmod v6.0.4.7. I have one backup.
My phone asked me if I wanted to update to KitKat, so I said sure! ...Shouldn't have done that BS. It rebooted into Clockworkmod, and I can't get it to go past Clockworkmod, no matter what I do.
I can't even get Windows to install the drivers for the phone. I have them downloaded, and it won't automatically install them no matter what I do. And when I try pointing to them, it says Windows could not find driver software for your device. I tried drivers on Verizon's website and ones posted on these forums.
Please help! I don't know what else to do.

You should install the driver manually by double clicking it or if it's in zip file you must open it first and search the driver.

I did. It says it cannot find the drivers when pointing to the correct folder, even though I'm using the correct drivers.

Try it with another computer. Might be your windows having problem.

T-Mobile still sending out the GB OTA?

I could've swore I read they stopped it? If so then is there anyway to flash the phone and be able to get the baseband? My co-worker's phone keeps rebooting, etc. I don't want to use the LG Update Tool. I bricked my phone and finally got it unbricked after 5 hours.
you are right T-Mobile already stopped rolling out the OTA.
Your only opportunity to get the new baseband is the LG tool

I used the LG tool about an hour after the update was relesed and it went perfectly smooth. What I did was a factory reset before I did it and I dont know if that mattered but I had no problems. I would do it you really have no choice. I thought I read somewhere that someone is working on a version that you can install from SD but I might be wrong and I dont think you will get the new baseband which in my opinion is one of the best things about the update. It is the only part you cant just flash. If you root you can install any ROM like the leaked one or whatever. So I would use the LG updater. The other thing is I have the LG updater on my computer and it starts automatically and it says that their servers are undergoing maintenance so you cant use that either. I hope this helps you

There are precautions you can take to prevent a bad experience. Most of them are listed on the Forum somewhere. But to recap,
Stock ROM: Install a stock rom. Root does not impact the update, so being rooted is not an issue. Find the Stock Rom and load it.
Standard recovery: Flash the standard recovery. If you are happy with your current rom, do a nand backup first. Then flash the stock ROM.
Factory reset: Throw this in because it can't hurt.
Many of the people that had problems with the LG updater simply did not meet the above steps.
While doing the update, remember, turn off AV, turn off pop up blockers. Turn off FAX programs or any other monitoring program, even screen savers. Do NOT make assumptions. There are several places in the update where the progress appears to stop. Do NOT disconnect. If you have been stopped for a hour, something is wrong. But a few minutes is not out of line. Personally I stopped at 4% for about 5 minutes...then it continued.
Here's the thread to return your device to stock....its pretty good. I can walk through these steps in less than 5 minutes....its really simple. Set your friend up with this.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088728
In case you're wondering, the thread above will NOT restore to pure factory like condition. It will NOT restore the original baseband. But all the rest works....its easy to use, simple to follow.....and more than anything else, does not require you to think....only follow. The worst problem people have when doing this is thinking, and assuming. Just follow the steps as is, no ad lib.
Good luck.
I've used the LG Updater on 3 phones, and I haven't had any problems.
I followed this page of instructions from the LG website and had no issues. http://wwwstg.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/G2X-Driver/index.jsp
I used my netbook running Windows 7 Starter Edition.
I just tried updating on the lg website and it says servers down for maintence

That is only the first time it runs after you install it. Click start and go to "LGMobile Support Tool" and run the "LGMobile Update" program. It should run this time without the bogus server down message. If you look at the dates in that notice, the maintenance was back in July. Be sure to right click the program and run as administrator if you are running Windows 7. Make sure you install the drivers from within the updater also, as the other driver pack on their website doesn't seem to install all the drivers you need to complete the update. Good luck.

I didn't have to run as administrator and I used Windows 7. Following the instructions in the link I posted above I had no issues at all. Drivers were installed separately from the updater, again just following the instructions from that link.
Follow LG's instructions word for word, in order, from start to finish, without skipping any steps, and you shouldn't have any issues.

When you ran the program did Windows have a warning box that said this program wants to make changes to your computer, and you had to say yes or no to allow it to continue. That means the program installer set it to admin mode already and Windows confirms you want to run the app as an admin. Without admin mode in Windows 7, programs that flash roms and such simply don't work properly. Looks like LG mitigated a problem by setting the flag during the program install.

Yea it asks for that confirmation. The one I used is version 1.5.2.2

LG Driver

No matter what I do, I cannot get the LG Support Tool to recognize my phone being plugged into the PC. I'm trying to do the new baseband install.
Running Win7 x86, already have the necessary files installed, getting to the last portion of the update, where LG support has to boot up, and it keeps telling me to install the driver.
I've downloaded the driver from the LG site, I already have the Nvidia driver installed on this PC. I plug in my phone and i see the P999 in the Device section of Manage Computer, has an exclamation point next to it so I search for driver automatically, no luck.
I don't know what the issue is.
dont do it automatically do it manually... and next time just post this in a thread already pertaining to this kind of stuff, less clutter the better.

I've tried it manually, but no LG USB driver i've installed gives me a folder, it always is an EXE file.
Screw it, was reading that the phone needs a valid T-Mobile sim card. But my IMEI is blocked....sooooo this wont work for me.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
watch a video on how to install it, I believe it is as easy as putting the folders in a dedicated folder (i have mine in a folder named "android") and just directing the files to the apx folder... not any .exe extensions
Are you currently running an ICS rom? I had the same issue but I flashed a rooted stock rom then I was able to get the LG tool to work. Might try that. Good luck.
The problem is that the USB driver is not recognized on my PC.

I understood exactly what you meant. I had the same problem. The LG driver did not recognize my phone when I was running the Hellfire sandwich rom. The software did not detect that my phone was connected. I was beating my head on the desk trying to figure it out. Then I decided I would try restoring to a stock rom and try to pull the update. Restored to stock and no OTA update avail. So I went back to the LG software and it recognized it on stock. Still had CWM installed. All I had done was use the stock nand restore from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048274 If you need the file let me know and I will host it for you for a faster download.

[Q] Help updating my G2X please!

Hi. I`m currently trying to update my G2X to latest version V21y, (2.3.4) with the LG Update tool. But everytime it gets to 4% it stops, and the driver on the computer disables for some reason. On the the screen it says "SW update please wait..." (I`m running win 7 64 bit by the way.) I have found tree different driverpacks from LG site ( LGUnitedMobileDriver_S498MA22_WHQL_ML_Ver_2.2, LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN37AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.7.2 and LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN38AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.8.1) but its the same problem when I try with the different driverpacks. Is there any other way to install the update without the LG update tool? I`m tired of having to use the G2X_V21E_00_NVFlash to get back to V21E version everytime it hangs. Maybe a program like G2X_V21E_00_NVFlash with the latest version can fix this? Any help would be very much appreciated!!
Did you try to update it on another computer? Also, I'm not sure but I think only having one driver installed is the best as other drivers may conflict with eachother.

Thanks! I tried on win vista with the same result. I`ve heard XP may be better, but dont have one here. What I ment with the driverpacks is that I installed one at the time (deleted one before I installed another). Hope there is a way to do this on win 7....
try following the instructions here:

Good luck
One more thing, I had that same thing happen to me, I've updated 4 different G2x's and usually, just trying another time was the cure.

Thanks, maybe that will be my last opportunity if I understand it...looks a little difficult. Will it be the same thing as a normal update, or will this make it impossible to update the phone through the LG update tool in a later time and update?

Thanks. I have tried to do this many times on my computer but it fails everytime at the same point. I guess its a conflict problem between the driver and win 7. Why it works on some win 7 is lika a riddle to me, in wich case I dont understand what I`m doing wrong.
NioNoah said:

It's almost the same as a normal update. With earlier versions of the LG update tool people could do a kdz update with no problems, but I guess LG figured that out and ever since no matter what version of the LG update tool you install, as soon as you launch it it will automatically update itself to the latest version and thus prevent you from using the kdz update (unless of course it was for your specific carrier). That's where the offline update comes in, regardless of what operating system you're using (I did it on windows 7 64-bit). Basically, it blocks LG's connection to your pc, then installs the LG update tool, and a bunch of other little things, then you're good to go. You have to make sure that you are on a stock rom with no custom recovery installed.
If you follow the instructions carefully, you should be fine. If you run into problems, let us know
Hope this makes it a little clearer as to why it doesn't just simply work anymore.

[Q] Phone Wont Turn On After TWRP Install

Just got my D800 in and was wanting to put a custom ROM on it. So I started off by rooting it with Stump Root.
I then wanted to put a custom recovery and rom manger didnt work and so I tried TWRP Manager. I selected the wrong phone, the LG G2X and it rebooted and will not come on now.
My questions are how do I fix this and get a custom rom on it?
Thanks
anyone?
more info. When I go to device manager, the phone is showing up as QHSUSB_BULK and when I plug the phone into the pc, a list of drives show up and windows wants me to format them.
cant believe no one has had this issue. Can you install different firmware though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 or do I need what was originally on it?

lg optimus zone 3 lgvs425pp stock firmware dump

hopefully this will help out some people and the developers to make, fix, restore a not so popular phone. I did a total firmware dump and have uploaded to my 4shared folder. If anyone is interested or can tell me how to upload it here for developing i will be more than happy to share with those in need. I also have a spare phone that i would be willing to test anything made from the firmware dump i created.
PLEASE link?
Some time after rooting my Optimus Zone 3 VS425PP, I got locked into a boot loop. There are no custom ROM's, neither recovery nor OS. It's not bricked. Yet, anyway. The loading screen functions, then a little window that says "OPTIMIZING APPS 1 OF 5, PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY..." appears. I've seen this before, but now, upon reaching "APP 5 OF 5," it reboots and repeats. I've tried several factory resets via the LG RECOVERY (MODIFIED,) as well as safe mode to no avail. Anyone? Anything? Help? The only recourse I can think of would be to re-flash the stock ROM, which I cannot find. Anywhere. Thanks, guys.
i tried contacting judthro for the same file; no luck

Unfortunately, I don't think this file is actually out there. I have REALLY been looking, even contacted the LG Development team. The LG Support Tool, etc. are not going to help you yet as they do not have the firmware on their servers yet. That's why the LG Support Tool will freeze when trying to do an Update Recovery on this phone. -- And I've tried them all: LG Mobile Support Tool, LG PC Suite, Verizon VS425PP Update Tool (from the mounted drive on the phone), LG Flash Tool 2014 to force different KDZ files. All provide nothing. All dead ends. The Optimus won't grab a COM unless it is the right signed firmware for the phone. You'll just sit there in Download Mode or in Debug mode forever with no result. We have to wait for the first update from LG from version VS425PP1 to whatever comes next so they have something to stick on their server. But...if you find something before then, please let me know! The update will eventually be released to the public. It'll probably just take a year or so.
Good thing is Wal-Mart sells these for under $12 (yes, that's right). I picked up seven of these quad-core bad boys at that deal. Just bugs the hell out of me I can't fix the one I over rooted.
this *might* be promising...

hopefully the op will chime in for insight. The 999MB isn't much good. It appears to be a RAR dump of all the partitions, perhaps made from a lglaf.py script while in download. Nevertheless, i havent found any way yet to push the firmware dump onto the phone.
I've had no luck, either.

Meanwhile, as my LG cycles endlessly through my really cool "Jolly Roger" boot animation, I stumbled across a Kyocera Hydro Wave at Walmart for $20. I snapped it up to replace the LG Optimus Zone 3. I had big plans to root it, too., but I should've researched it first. The specs are great... but one check on Cyanogen's website probably would've saved me some trouble. Not one Kyocera device is listed there. XDA thread also throws red flags-no one can get root to stick. Well, I at least learned a lesson. Next time, I plan to purposefully buy a phone that can be rooted, has been rooted, has instructions online to do so, AND has at least one custom ROM available! No wonder this thing was $20! Keep us all posted if you stumble across a bootloop fix of some kind, and I'll do the same.

Either I am unable to open that link from an Android device OR the link given is to an unshared folder? It just asks me to log in and then says 'that folder does not exist in your DropBox...' PLEASE check out the SHARE link from within your DropBox and maybe share a new folder (and drop the stock ROM in there, along with what you might've used to flash it maybe?) We'd be very grateful!

To all who have a bricked, phone this phone has an update. Download the LG software assistant and put assistant in repair mode then boot phone normally and wait a bit. Run the repair assistant and let it run. Hopefully if everything runs well as it did me. Mine is restored and running.
Just ordered one. Is there root for this phone? Unlocked bootloader or forgetaboutit?
I rooted this phone and then tried to de-bloat, but I must have deleted too much. Now when I boot all I get is "Security Error - Authentication Fail #9"
I can get to Download mode, but none of the recovery programs recognize the phone. I installed the drivers, but still nothing. Is there anything I can do?
