[Q] Nexus 5 and no data connection during call - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've owned a Nexus 5 since day one.
I have realized that during call the data connection stops working,no H or E or G on signal icon. After call ends data connection starts working again.
What about you?Is it normal?
Thank you in advance.

Yes, that's normal... Switch to 3g/lte, it won't disconnect while you're on a call..

It's strange because I'm always in 3g and it happens anyway...
Can it be an operator setting?

It's a stupid Android thing. It's done it randomly for many versions

I haven't had an issue with data on a call with my Nexus 5... it drops me down to HSPA obviously, but I can still access the network.

No data connection !!

Does your phone show 4G LTE or 3G mobile data connection? If you have poor 4G reception and can only get 3G, then I think you can't have voice and internet at the same time, because 3G and voice service use the same radio, while 4G LTE uses a separate radio.

The Nexus 5 actually has a single transceiver/baseband that handles both LTE and GSM. Since it doesn't do VoLTE it drops to HSPA whenever you are on a call. GSM carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile in the US) can do voice and data simultaneously on HSPA.
EDIT: And since it does not support Voice + LTE at the same time, it cannot do simultaneous voice and data on Sprint.

The issue actually is that I nave no data connection and I'm covered by a hdspa network ,no LTE.
AMD when I'm in a call, cannot nave data activated...
Uff...

I managed verifying with another Sim and another carrier, it's possible to use data and voce at the same time.
For sure my problem is related to my carrier settings.
Thank you for your support!

[Q] 4.0.4 no HSDPA?

Hi!
I have a problem.
With original OTA 4.0.4 I never see the H of HSDPA near the signal icon.
Is this normal?
I try put the sim on another phone and I can see the H!
It's normal, it can still use hsdpa though.
But why no "H"?
It's a graphic bug?

That's how it was built. Most custom ROMs include the H.

Nexus 5 battery drain faster on Tmobile vs Sprint

I was on Sprint and just recently switched to Tmobile. I've noticed my Nexus 5 battery drains faster now that I am on Tmobile, by a noticeable margin. Has anyone experience this?
You must post more information.
- The type of connection you are using most of the time.... (2G - E - G / 3G or H / 4G).
- The signal strength, dBm numbers..... or at least the amount of bars you get.
- Are you using a WiFi adapter for data connections or just the mobile data?
Maybe with Sprint you have better signal than with T-Mobile in your area.
i.e.: I switched from Vodaphone's 3G networks to 4G networks in my house. (I don't use WiFi at all, with WiFi there is no really big difference).
With 3G i have 4/4 bars (less than 5-6% battery drain per night).
With 4G i have 2/2 bars (from 6% to 20% drain per night; 6% when im near 3 bars, and 20% when im near 1 bar of signal).
If you have exactly or almost the same signal strength and network type with both carriers, but you still have more drain with T-Mobile, then that would be more interesting...

Yup that is T-Mobile alright. Good signal outside and no signal inside.
Get a signal repeater ( cel fi ) and it'll all be good.
Too bad WiFi calling is not a playstore app, if T-Mobile really wants to be the uncarrier they would make that happen.

All T-Mobile phones cannot have Wifi calling as T-Mobile needs to Modify the system itself such as the radio and the RIL and other things they actually work in conjunction with Qualcomm and other radio's to making wifi calling smooth and seamless.

Yes with the old GAN and UMA architecture that is true, but with IMS there is no reason they cannot make an voip app or ims portal app that has access to Sim card identify., and put it on the play store.

Email John Legere and Tweet T-Mobile about it perhaps we'll see it in Uncarrier 5.0
The only problem that I can see of is maybe patents? and licencing stuff? with VOIP related things...? I don't know

[Q] Does Mate 7 Show LTE next to signal bars?

My current network operator is LTE enabled, yet my Mate 7 shows only 4G next to the signal bars. I was wondering if there's a way to figure out whether I am connected to the LTE network or just using 4G. I know some handsets show LTE next to signal bars when they're receiving LTE signal; is this phone supposed to do that?
4G and LTE are one and the same thing...

Oh, OK - so the fact that some handsets display LTE instead of 4G varies from device to device, and doesn't have any real impact on network performance, right?
Yes

@aatifahmad
only 4G
No it isn't like with 3g and H/H+ .. think is instead of 3.5G (H) and 3.75G (H+) so awkward they decided to use H+ instead in past..
4G label is for common ppl that will follow after 3G .. LTE (long term evolution) ..
It depends of manuf really what term will use..

H955 LTE cat 9. 4G++

Different sources have different info. Does H955 have LTE cat 9? And how to enable if it does? Also will icon change to 4g++ or stays 4g+? My provider have launched LTE cat 9, but seems that i cant test it. Also they tell that only samsung s6 s6 edge can be used... Possible to enable it on my device?
My provider still not provide lte in my zone.... You are lucky...
Lte cat 6 is supported by flex 2
Same speed of s6/s6 edge, 450Mbps

In my zone I have LTE + but don't have any proof on LTE ++...
Inviato dal mio GT-I9505 utilizzando Tapatalk
I tested few times and max what i can get on speedtest was ~150mbps. When they were introducing new lte to journalists the s6 showed almost 300mbps. As i understand LTE cat 9 is using all 3 bands 800 1800 and 2600MHz, is it possible that its somehow locked by stock firmware?
Last time bump. If i root is there any additional settings for LTE?

You'll be getting a full control of the device when you will have got it rooted but this is not giving you any kind of extended LTE options. Provided that the thing you are looking for is a matter of additional info you may add into some file or implement to device , of course the root will help you. But seriously do not root your device for this LTE purpose. By root you won't get such an option just because you are rooted

Not able to make or receive calls on LTE

It's not rom or radio related, I have been facing this issue since 4G was first used in Turkey. I'm able to send sms or have access to internet, device model is D821. Anybody know something about that?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It's normal behaviour because LTE is commonly used only for data connection except your network have VoLTE (Voice over LTE) functionality.
