[Q] Transfer messages from LG phone to N5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just moved from a LG phone (non-smart one) to N5, and want to transfer my messages to it. However as all messages are backed up using LG PC Suite IV (crappy I know) and can only be exported in .csv format, I can't find out how to import them to my N5. I tried Anything2SMS app since it allows custom configuration for .csv import but can't find out the config for my csv.
Does anyone have a solution / be able to define the suitable csv format for Anything2SMS? Below is the first lines in my csv:
"mailbox","time","content","sender","receiver"
"1","2010-09-01 08:38","[message content]", "[sender #]", "[recipient #]"
Click to collapse
(I figured "1" = inbox)
Thanks!

Not sure dude. Sure it's worth it? Couldn't you just edit out the columns you won't need? What would you really need anyway? Date, time, sender, message body...
How did your previous phone handle messages? Were they threaded?
Here are screenshots of my database so you can see what's in there

Ok not sure if this helps, but I downloaded sms to text from play and exported my sms database to csv. I then added a fake messages to the csv and imported it with the same app.
Hope this helps.

Install this app on both phones
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
Use the back feature to backup from the one that you want and then import it in the other phone. Hangouts should automatically import it or sync it.
I would also suggest to do the following:
1. Download on the old phone SMS Backup and Restore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore)
2. Do a backup with it and transfer the xml file to your new phone
3. Install on the new phone also the SMS Backup and Restore pp and restore the SMS'ses
4. Verify the SMS are there by using something like Handcent (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.handcent.nextsms)
5. Delete the Cache AND Data (do a Force Stop first) of Hangouts (Only clearing the cache didn't worked for me either that's why I deleted also the data)
6. Start Hangouts again (and or reboot - which never hurts
Let me know if it worked

Thanks joannn, but as rootSU said my old phone doesn't run on Android so it won't work

Do try what I suggested though

rootSU's suggestion will almost certainly work - I can't see any reason why it wouldn't. However; be prepared to use some Excel skills as you won't find an app to do the conversion for you!
This is a time for those Excel functions we all know and love to actually be useful.

Yeah it does work. I did it myself to test (see screenshot earlier)
Just export your current sms database with sms to text to csv.
Condense your existing backup csv into the columns in your new export using excel then import it back.
You just need to know how to identify incoming and outgoing messages in your existing backup.
Edit, use Microsoft Excel not libre office!

Diamond Tweaker ruined my phone!

Ok, it's not that big of a deal, but I want the stock TP dialer back!
When I installed Diamond Tweaker on my TP, I got this dialpad!

(Its gray buttons and a white background and no Yoshi, but I DON't WANT THIS ONE! It turned my Vibration when the person i called picked up the phone off!)
How can I get rid of this one? If there is any way by doing a Hard Reset it would be grealy appritiated!!
EDIT:
THANKS ALOT GUYS!!!
I have now Hard Reseted the phone - Just for the record
I guess it was all fu**** up, since a stock dialpad .cab did not work! hehe
BUT one more question; I used PIM and it saved all of my messages(all sent to me) BUT I can't find them, because in the messages (Threaded SMS) It only shows that I have written to them, understand? (Like my messages to them is there - But not theirs to mine... Onlywhere I can see some of the messages I've recived is from the TF3D Meny)
the easy way, deinstall the program.
another easy way, backup your phonebook, en get back to factory defaults
install Advanced Config 3.3, go to Phone\Phone Skin and select enabled, soft reset. hopefully this will help

FIRST of all! - This is just a random picture I found, and used because it's the same interface that I got (Without the yoshi!) I got norwegian interface
Second - How can I Backup my contacts?
Follow up: Can I backup all of my messages? (So that if I do a Hard Reset then All of my messages is avaliable)
Third - Deinstalling the program did not work! All of the saved changes was there, also I can find a way to reset all to default on Diamond Tweaker (as you can on Advanced Config)
Lastly - From ADConfig It was enabled, so I disabled it (Still same interface!) and enabled it again, still no change!
Starting to believe that Hard Reset is the solution, BUT if it is, can I backup my messages? (As said in the Third - )
I dont think Diamond Tweak did anything. Looks like you messed up your own phone. All you need to do is use Diamond tweak to enable phone skin.
First:
I would say the same thing if my girlfriend is in the same room
....upps did I say girlfriend, I meant wife - hahaha
Second:
Do a PIM backup either with HTC backup or SPB. Careful with sprite since it may not be compatible. I do not suggest to do a full backup since the restore may overwrite vital new reg data and files which may have the same name but newer in the Rom you flash.
PIM will backup ll contacts and emails
Third:
Try to copy the attached files into the windows dir, enable skin and soft reset. That's the default dialer skin.

What file?
there is no file it only allow you to import from a file not to export it. And if it did it i guess it wouldn't backup the SIM's contacts i guess.
right you want to put your sim contacts from sim to phone yes.. i thought you had them in a file already.
ok do you use ms outlook to store calendar & contacts? if so you can export them from outlook in file format (if you don't know how then google outlook import/export).. then place the file to your phone.. done.
or if you use google sync, and had sync'd you calendar & contacts before then simply re-sync your phone.
If all you need is to show sim contacts and you have no alternative, try the above or start from scratch.

On my ICS (MV2), there is an option to 'Import from SIM card'. It then gives me a list of all my contacts on SIM and I can import them freely.
I don't know if the import actually works because I don't have any SIM contacts, but it should.

Very clear interface, easy to use, does the job of several apps. Only thing missing, 4 me at least, is a "freeze app" capability. Otherwise excellent app, keep up the good work.
It is possible to add option to start schedule backup at definied time?

Easy App Toolbox

Hey everyone!
My next creation is finished (well, the first beta version of it ) -> Easy App Toolbox.
It aims to be a wide collection of tool to handle your apps. For the beginning it contains the following features:
Share/Send apps (via Gmail, Facebook, Whatsapp, etc...)
Backup and Restore to/from Dropbox
Backup and Restore to/from Google Drive
Backup and Restore to/from Box.net
Backup and restore to/from SD card
Backup to PC
App details (permissions, activities, services, files and folders, etc...)
The app does NOT need root access!
As usual, I'm very curious about your feedback!
Grab the app at the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.goddchen.android.easyapptoolbox

sms backup will be some custom format (JSON or something). But what format would you suggest for backing up contacts? vcard? So that you can use the saved files in your Dropbox/Box/Drive in other apps, too?

Where are RCS Messages stored?

Hi everyone, long time!
This has gotten me quite curious when I was looking up messages and backing them up from my phone, some didn't get restored by a the software I was using because it turned out that some were RCS (Rich communication services) messages.
During this process, the software wiped all the messages before writing the ones from the backup file and to my horror there are some messages that don't make sense because they only contain Inbound and not the Outbound messages. However I've read somewhere that these types were stored in a "different database" or/and they were MMS messages in storage.
Therefore I was wondering, where are RCS Messages stored? And can they ever be recovered from deletion by a third-party software??
I hope you all are doing well during these times!

Some messenger apps don't store your messages on the device itself, they are saved on a server owned by the app creators, some messenger apps(such as Whatsapp) encrypt the data and they require specific methods to backup and restore messages from that app.
This is a good article that talks about where things are stored.

This is what I also thought as I've found out. But if they are on some server, does that mean they're NEVER deleted?
And could they be retrieved after phone wiping??

Haha...this is what I found also before making this post!
Are these root directories ever touched by third-party (Forensics, Recovery) software i.e. during wiping or Re-Writing databases?
Either way, could they be accessed and restored as originally intended on the device?

They can be deleted by the owner/user of the account or by the owners of the app/messaging platform. Facebook for example, messages there are stored on the Facebook server system.

Well I didn't delete them intentionally, as I've stated before I backed up the messages using Phone Copier Express but found out afterwards it doesn't support RCS messages when I wrote the messages back. Beforehand those messages were there, so surely they were stored somewhere, and unlikely to be deleted on the server if it was only a few days old too.
If it helps I'm using the phone's default which is Google's Messages app.
Is there anyway they could be retrieved so this app can view them again?
Anyone at all may I ask?
Exactly 4 weeks later.

I'm really hoping if there's a way to restore them by any chance??
