[Q] Using voice, one button, to dictate text - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used to have a Samsung Galaxy S3, I liked it when I can click the mic at the bottom of the keyboard to dictate text via text message or searching the web.
It seems to be more steps to do that with the Nexus 5, is there a way to click on button talk & then send message, etc?

Google voice typing maybe?

Google voice with lycamobile?

Is it possible to get google voice working with any other services besides the ones they have listed? I want to set it up with my lycamobile number. So is there a way to do this or is it not allowed unless they officially support it? I Google searched and all I could find was how to transfer your Google voice number but nothing about getting it working with other companies. Thanks

So is this possible or does Google voice only work on officially supported networks?

When I tried setting up google voice and texting and calling on my computer it said choose your carrier from a drop down list. The list only had certain big ones. Lycamobile wasn't on there but it supposedly runs on tmobiles network so do I just choose tmobil?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I never had to select a carrier but I set mine up a few years ago. Maybe things have changed. If your provider runs on T-Mobile network I would choose it

OK I'll try again and see. Last time I tried was a about 2 weeks ago so I don't remember exactly what the process was.

It didn't work. It says mmi something then error or something like that when I put in the activation code. It says prepaid T-Mobile plans not supported and my plan is prepaid so that might be the issue.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I don't understand what activation you are having to do. When I set mine up, I simply put in the number I wanted to verify from, what number would be used to forward to and that was it

They must've changed it then. Or maybe it detected yours was already supported. I wanted to set up the voice mail feature but it said. Your carrier may not be supported. Set up from PC or something along those lines and have me a link.

Se situation
Abdel, I appear to be in the same situation as you. I am able to receive calls/texts using my Google Voice number, but I wasn't able to make calls using the number because Lycamobile isn't on the drop-down list on Google's "activate Google Voice on this phone" page. BUT then I just changed the setting in GV to "Making calls: Use Google Voice to make all calls" and it works perfectly, showing my GV number on phones I call and ringing my phone when people call my GV number. It even seems voicemails are handled by GV and not Lyca.

Awesome thanks. I'll try that. So after setting it to make all calls you don't need to do anything from the computer? And does it let you text people with it too?

Correct, nothing else onthe computer. I'm using the GV app for all my text messages, not the normal Android texting app (soon to become Hangouts, methinks).
If this is working for you, hit the thanks button. I don't know much compared to some people here, so I'll take any boost to my thanks meter I can get.

I don't see the option for make all calls with Google voice. There's two about international calls and then one saying don't make any calls with Google voice. The international one says ask to make international cars and the other says make international call with g voice

Do you use lycamobile too?

So I was able to get Google voice working by using groove IP lite. It uses my Google voice number. It doesn't even need the voice app installed. In just going to have that set as a sort of personal home phone. What sucks Is in may apparently Google won't allow those apps anymorw

Google now speech output problems

Hi,
I have a problem with my google now. The speech output is too quick, like it's being fastend. If I ask who bill gates is then it will work normally. But if I ask to send a text message to someone. The voice turns to be very quick. It worked normally when I used it before, now its all speedend up. Very weird.
I treid to uninstall google search update and reinstall didn't work. I'm trying different things but nothing seems to work.
Anyone also have the same issue here?

You can adjust the speed of the voice output in its settings.

Oh I'm sorry, I just assumed the OP lived in either one of those countries.
Then I don't have anything else. Most that I know of only work in the US.

Do you also have an Android phone that you text from? If so, you can use MightyText and you can send texts from any computer or Android device, and it syncs to all of them. Love it.

This. Although I dont know if it works in other countries. I dont know why it wouldnt. Try either Mighty Text or DeskSMS. Both have Chrome Extensions to text from your browser and apps to text from your tablet. I prefer Mighty Text though

Direct Dial and Direct Message

The Direct Dial and Direct Message used to allow you to put a shortcut on the home screen to dial or text someone, and it set the picture for the icon as the contact picture, with one word in the bottom of the picture representing which phone (Home, Mobile, etc.)
Now it appears that functionality is gone... Is it?

Calling is still there, just not SMS. I've been using that app for a few weeks and it works perfect. Seriously there is no way to know it's not the stock.

Yes I am actually using it now... What about sending texts now?
What about sending texts? Nobody has a decent direct message link creation app?

No enhanced messaging?

What's bad about it?
I tried it, it seems to be like most other messaging apps.
It has the feature of seeing that the other party is typing as long as they too are using message+.
I didn't like it because it stores all messages including pics in the cloud.

I don't think it sounds dumb. I prefer standard emojis over the Android ones. I've started using handcent again for the background customization, and because it can be set to use standard emojis.

Ah. See she had the iPhone before and this is the only reason she traded for the note 5 because of the enhanced messaging.. But I guess Verizon disabled it and added Verizon messages... IF we had root it wouldn't be hard to get it back probably.

The SwiftKey keyboard has a lot of similar emojis built in but I think as soon as you we it in vz messages it changes. If she didn't have it and you did you emoji in vz messages will come across as the identical one on her app when she gets it. Whether its in stock or hangouts etc.
I use it because if the message sync to my computer and it acts as a backup.
Also the update on the 15th now lets you wifi call on some phones and all the tablets

I tried the VZ Message+ but stopped using it once I realized group texts and some pics to Sprint users weren't showing up. I started using the installed Messages application. I liked the features in VZ Messages+ but until that is fixed I can't use it.
