Is it possible to get google voice working with any other services besides the ones they have listed? I want to set it up with my lycamobile number. So is there a way to do this or is it not allowed unless they officially support it? I Google searched and all I could find was how to transfer your Google voice number but nothing about getting it working with other companies. Thanks

When I tried setting up google voice and texting and calling on my computer it said choose your carrier from a drop down list. The list only had certain big ones. Lycamobile wasn't on there but it supposedly runs on tmobiles network so do I just choose tmobil?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I never had to select a carrier but I set mine up a few years ago. Maybe things have changed. If your provider runs on T-Mobile network I would choose it

OK I'll try again and see. Last time I tried was a about 2 weeks ago so I don't remember exactly what the process was.

It didn't work. It says mmi something then error or something like that when I put in the activation code. It says prepaid T-Mobile plans not supported and my plan is prepaid so that might be the issue.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I don't understand what activation you are having to do. When I set mine up, I simply put in the number I wanted to verify from, what number would be used to forward to and that was it

They must've changed it then. Or maybe it detected yours was already supported. I wanted to set up the voice mail feature but it said. Your carrier may not be supported. Set up from PC or something along those lines and have me a link.

Abdel, I appear to be in the same situation as you. I am able to receive calls/texts using my Google Voice number, but I wasn't able to make calls using the number because Lycamobile isn't on the drop-down list on Google's "activate Google Voice on this phone" page. BUT then I just changed the setting in GV to "Making calls: Use Google Voice to make all calls" and it works perfectly, showing my GV number on phones I call and ringing my phone when people call my GV number. It even seems voicemails are handled by GV and not Lyca.

Awesome thanks. I'll try that. So after setting it to make all calls you don't need to do anything from the computer? And does it let you text people with it too?

Correct, nothing else onthe computer. I'm using the GV app for all my text messages, not the normal Android texting app (soon to become Hangouts, methinks).
If this is working for you, hit the thanks button. I don't know much compared to some people here, so I'll take any boost to my thanks meter I can get.

So I was able to get Google voice working by using groove IP lite. It uses my Google voice number. It doesn't even need the voice app installed. In just going to have that set as a sort of personal home phone. What sucks Is in may apparently Google won't allow those apps anymorw

Every time I receive a call, the sprint operator says the name of the contact calling or unknown caller and says press 1 to answer or 2 for voicemail. Has anyone else had this problem????I talked to sprint about this and they said they had to update my caller id and voicemail and that it would take 72 hrs to update. It has now been 1 week and same ole ****! I have updated prl and profile and still the same. When I press 1, I can answer the call like normal but I have to go through this process every call I get. arent those kind of the same thing as google voice?
I like google voice, you can check you voicemail online, it transcribes(usually poorly, but but better than spring vvm, when i had my epic.)
Google Voice.

yep google voice. sux that any visual voice mail on att not on the iphone is considered a forwarded call and thus uses your minutes but atleast it's not a surcharge like on sprint to use call forward or use sprints transcription service. i used youmail a while back because for some reason on a stock captivate rom that phone wouldn't set call forwarding up to the google voice number for the life of me. if would just fail for no reason. yet it worked for the youmail number. on an i9000 rom my captivate set up google voice just fine. go figure. what i will say is that toe youmail transcription service works better but it is not free, they may still have a free trial for it though.

there is no other platform that has the 3rd party app support and dev comunity. the iphone ui sux. they are constantly doing hacks to get andriod features but they are never as good. meego looks good but few phones have compatable bootloaders.
I can't forward my voicemail at&t number to GV voicemail. On GV app setup when I click configure voicemail and choose GV, it just bring me back to configure voicemail,
I remember when I had my iPhone 4 and some called be on my att number and was sent to the voice mail, the voicemail was forward to GV voicemail.

I had trouble too. Just came from iphone also. You need to log in on your PC not the Google voice app and set it up there Google.com/voice . You should be able to find where it says activate voicemail. Click it and it will give you a long number to call mine started with a *. Enter that # as if you where making a call and press send it will activate your account. I tried and tried to get it working from my phone but ended up going it this way. Good luck

Anyone have a clue why when someone sends me or my wife a text via GV, we get texts on both phones ? I looked everywhere and I cant figure out why this is happening. We exchanged phones recently and I completely removed all accounts from both phones and uninstalled GV....in fact Nexus 5 was wiped as well.
edit: we exchanged phones NOT sim cards
may be it has something to do with the hangouts application. Just a wild guess though

what do you mean desktop mode ? If you mean check Google Voice settings then I already did and no one touched them to begin with. They all look normal, my account ONLY has my number and her account ONLY has her number. It worked fine this past Saturday, then we haven't used GV, and after we switched phones I noticed this issue.

Yes he means Google Voice settings on the web (not in your phone):
https://www.google.com/voice/b/0#phones
When you switched phones, you should have changed your mobile phone registration at that site for each of your accounts.

We switched the hardware, sim cards stayed the same. So its not like I am using her number with my Google Voice account....I am using my sim card with my phone number with my google voice account
PS. calls work fine. Its the texts that go to both phones. If i send a text to her, she gets it and i get notification too, if someone else texts me, she also gets the text.
Check the devices under accounts and see if there's multiple accounts on one phone. You should be able to figure it out on a desktop in Google voice in settings and user accounts. Maybe its linked on a computer with multiple account

Check if app has sms integerated in default sms app. Than check if the default messaging app is not GV. If not any problem here than its the account for sure. Both your and your wife's phone number got attached to whether your account or hers. Check her GV account settings too. Check which device has priority too.

Unless you are referring to a popup during setup that informs you that automated configuration of the voice mail is not sported - I have no clue what you are talking about. The voice mail setup popup can be skipped and then Google Voice provides instructions what to dial to manually forward voice mail from Verizon to Google Voice - always worked for me. For years.
